Getting sick constantly....some TMI
Eva Chavez posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had open RNY on 8/12 and it has been a rough road since the start but now I am wondering if there is indeed something actually wrong. I really can not eat anything without vomiting...sorry I don't like that word but it is what it is. I can drink Water and my Protein shakes fine but any type of food seems to make me ill and comes back up. I had some cottage cheese about 2 1/2 hours ago and just now I was sitting and watching tv and unexpectedly and without warning it came back up. I didn't even have that achy my pouch is too full feeling. As I ran to the restroom to let it do its thing I noticed in the toilet the shake i drank 6 hours ago was also mixed in. I am wondering how something I drank 6 hours ago could possibly be still in my pouch. Also just when I thought it was over I started projectile vomiting water...never done that yet. So I suppose my question is has anyone had this happen? Also any advice is greatly appreciated. -
Well Dr.C---thanks for the information, maybe TMI!!! However, those pictures convenced me to stick to my dr. instructions. I do not want to end up like that!!!!

4 Days Post Op- No Hunger Yet
SLEEVEDNBEAUTIFUL replied to Lollyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a 5 wks out. I do have the belching and it is when I'm full, hungry, and more when constipated . My gurgling has stopped. I felt the fullness with liquids but everyone is different. If I drank to much I would get nauseous so I started paying attention to what restriction felt like. When you get there you will know. But don't really worry about restriction or fullness while on liquids is what I was told by my surgeon/nut. I still don't feel hungry unless I have gone all day without any intake. Bad as it is I have done this. It's hard to get everything down sometimes especially when I'm constipated. TMI but it's so true. -
So I dont hve a date yet, getting close. Doing research still and I hear about the horrible gas pains. So.. I must know, is it gas or do u poop and have relief for a bit? Is it ongoing like u wanna die? Or is it like spasms and contractions? I heard 1 girl say she used a firm smll pillow to rest her incisions on. Wondering if that would while u tried to use the bathroom.. Please, any feedback is much appreciated thank u

Some unexpected NSVs have me LOLing in public. You?
Bmjohnson replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
ok so ill add one to this growing list. It amazes me that my hubby (who had WLS the month before me) and myself can hug each other without having to lean into each other over our bellies. and the sex just gets better and better. sorry tmi! -
One mistake will not mess you up, but try not to make it a habit. Almost everyone messes up at least once, and it's not an end all. And of course it's gonna be watery- you're not putting in a lot of mass food-wise. You'll have some pieces and parts (tmi, I know), but it's mostly gonna be water for a while. Same thing will happen right after surgery until you're eating solids again, in which case, stool softener is your BEST FRIEND. Pre-op diet is legitimately the hardest part. You're almost done with it- you can get through it. You just gotta hang in there. Once you're done with your surgery and on your way to healing, you'll see how strong you were to keep going and that the hard part is over. ❤️ Congratulations and good luck!

Okay, I keep reading other people's and what's the deal.....no tea before bed? no tea or nothing to drink at all before bed? I drink before bed and sleep fine. Will that change? I'm one week out and I started soft foods today. I had 1/4cup grits for lunch, and at dinner I had 1/4 cup velveeta cheese melted w/taco seasoning (no chips - didn't really need them and 2Tspn's of mashed potatos and I drank Water - 160z 1/2 hour afterwards and I was fine. Am I doing right? When I ate the grits, I was so hungry I ate kind of fast, and then it hurt and I through about 2Tsp's up. Anytime I eat, I burp like 50 times...............is it normal and will I burp everytime I eat alot? I'm burping more than I'm farting. I must say, I went to the Art's fest in Addison and I'm so okay with my husband and baby eating and me just drinking. I just wished I felt smaller. I've lossed 10lbs and don't even feel it. I was looking at the scale everyday, now I haven't in 2days. Never thought that I'd be excited about a scale.

HI all, I had revision from banding to bypass in October and I feel like there is something in my throat constantly on the left side ever since. Does anyone else have this issue. I also have gotten sick once and maybe TMI; but how else do you find these things out.... when I was sick my vomit only came out the right side of my throat. Wondering if anyone has had this experience or should I be concerned????

Let's hear some normal poop stories
Oceanlove replied to modymatey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had diabetes and technically still do till I hit the 6months with no medication and controlled number of 90. I will tell you that I take nothing for blood sugar control and my number 90-95range since 2days post op. (Keeping in mind I’m baby post op at day 6days lol) it’s amazing to feel free of the medication. As for poo I had my first one this morning. It had zero form to it. Beware TMI coming. It was more like a small black/very dark brown pile of poo flakes. But I took 15ml of MOM last night since it had been I believe since the 18th I had one. I’m not sure what is ahead in the poo future but I can tell you right now I’m free. -
Hello all!! I had my revision surgery from the band to the sleeve on March 8th 2017. I must say overall I am pretty damn happy with it. I am still having pain where the port was but I have heard that is normal, also it is still hard there not sure how long that will last or if it will be forever. It has been about 6 weeks from surgery and I have no more pain at all other then the port site, and that is just some slight discomfort once in a while not really pain, my wounds are all pretty much healed. I have lost to date a total of 49 pounds putting me at 210 down from 259, I am pretty excited about losing 11 more pounds because then I hit onederland!! (wiggles) Ok, so now for some things that I have noticed happening to me after surgery and with the weight loss. First one is my butt hurts a lot lol...I think it is because I am losing my cushion there, also I have been having a lot of back pain since and I never had back pain before. I get really cold often now which is new since I used to always be hot. My hormones are out of wack, sometimes I cry for no reason and I am not depressed or anything it just happens. This maybe tmi but my periods are much heavier and afterwards I notice I feel warn out, just so wiped out I don't want to do anything but sleep, it only seems to last during and a few days after but it really takes everything out of me for those few days. Also my sex drive seems to be amped up, hubba hubba..lol . I walk everyday and do ok with that but I have noticed if I try to go to the gym and work out I get light headed and tired real quick, not sure if that is because I am just about 6 weeks out or if that is because something else. Another thing I am really struggling with it trying to get all my food, liquids and proteins in a day, I am never hungry so trying to get all that in I always have the feeling of being overly stuffed. So that is about all I can think of for now, but if anyone can help a newbie out with some of these issues I would be most grateful!! Also if you do not use protein shakes to get in your protein, what do ya use?

Okay, this is probably TMI but here goes. I am scheduled for surgery at 7:15 in the morning. I have been on the preop diet for 10 days. I had totally forgotten that I was supposed to do Milk of Magnesia today for a bowel prep at 10, 2 and 6. I just remembered and took the first dose at 3:15. If I am off schedule with this a bit do you think it will have an effect on my surgery?

I was there for two days. So I had already taken an extra pair of panties (just in case. And (tmi alert) if you fart something other then air might come out). The hospital does give you stuff but I don't know if you are like me but I like my own soap and stuff to take a shower. And let me tell you that shower was the best shower in the world. Don't know if you watch The Walking Dead but I was like those guys when they took their first shower in forever. Chapstick is a must. (I had 3). I wore a light t shirt and stretchy yoga pants going in but then changed into one of my over sized sleep shirts. Wore that home.

I have read ((and heard from friends who had the surgery) that people with gastric bypass do not throw up, and that their stomach doesn't turn since it's a pouch now. I just ate something that didn't agree with my stomach. and I started foaming. The stoma was plugged, I believe due to a piece of egg due to improper chewing. I'll try better next time. After I spit out all the excess saliva, my stomach "turned" twice and it forced me to empty my pouch. I didn't get nauseated at all, it just kind of happened on it's own but my stomach definitely "turned" both times. Can someone please explain to me if this is common for gastric bypass patients? I'm sincerely confused about it all. I hope I'm connected alright & nothing went amiss in my surgery lol. Thanks!

Liquid Preop and calories
shanda7182 replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, i have only been making sure to get my 80-90 g of Protein in as well. I also watch the sodium content with broths because it can add up fast. One broth is usually around at least 600 mg of sodium which is alot if you are hypertensive or prone to retaining fluids (if you consume more than 2 or so per day). Anyway, I would love to keep in touch with you. I will email you at your email address and give you my information. This is Day 2 of my liquid diet- I guess every surgeon is different, I was told to avoid Ensure, who knows, I guess its surgeons preference, I dont really know the reason. I am actually to my surprise VERY energetic! LOL I dont know what....my stomach does not rumble much but I think the key is, I have been drinking those isopure 40g, 0 gram drinks and it has really been making me feel somewhat satisifed. My meal yesterday went something like this: 1st: isopure drink- 160 calories 2nd: broth: 10 calories 3rd: 4 sf jello- 40 calories 4th: isopure drink- 160 calories 5th: broth: 10 calories 6th: 4 sf popsiclaes: 40 calories lots and lots of Water and crystal lite in between times. SO I guess that is not too bad and actually today, my thighs feel slimmer. LOL, maybe its because I have been urinating all day (TMI) I know. Thanks for responding, we will keep in touch!:sad0: -
feeling guilty about not sharing entire truth about weight loss
Clementine Sky replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's a difference between lying by omission and simply keeping personal matters private. It's your prerogative to share what you wish, and with whom. Everyone keeps something or another to themselves, or at least they should. If you'd struggled with constipation you probably wouldn't feel compelled to tell everyone you encountered about the changes you made to improve your bowel movements, because that's TMI. If you want to tell everyone who inquires about your weight loss, or to share about it on your social media, that's your perfect right. That's not a morally superior choice to keeping it private, though. Both choices are perfectly valid and perfectly ethical. The only ones who actually need to know you had surgery are those who are either personally and directly impacted by it or giving you medical care, such as a spouse if he's helped to finance it and is your support person, or your doctors. That's it. I had the VSG last August, and to this date the only ones besides my physicians who know about it are my parents who accompanied me for the surgery and my husband. Not my brother, not my best friend since I was 11, not my colleagues, students, or neighbors. My parents and husband have provided me with all the emotional support I need. I'm not an ambassador for weight loss surgery and feel no obligation to share about it with others. WLS isn't a new-fangled procedure few know about, and we're therefore compelled to provide education for. Those who are interested in having it can find information on their own. I didn't decide to have WLS because of someone else telling me about it. My reproductive endocrinologist recommended it to help me with fertility because other patients my age (early 30s) and size (14 at the time, with a BMI much lower than normal for the VSG) have benefitted from it. If I told people about my surgery, I'd then have to explain my reasons for it, which would entail explaining PCOS and my struggles with conceiving. That's raw and private. We all have our personal reasons for wanting this surgery, and we are perfectly entitled to be as public or private about them as we desire. When people have asked me about how I've lost weight I've told them the truth - I logged my food to become more aware of what I'm eating and make responsible changes, and I bought a bike and started using it to commute to and from work to add in enjoyable exercise to my day. I also tell them I consulted with my endocrinologist and followed her medical advice. -
Anyone with ibs, diverticulosis?? Did lap band help??
wickedme replied to wickedme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies.. I was pretty confident that it would be okay because I was pre-approved medical wise, but I'm so siked for this now after months of thinking about it I don't want any brick walls. Its good to hear that some of the symptoms go away.. Being constipated is horrifying for me after going the other way for so long,, stool softeners are a must... TMI huh?? lol, there isn't much you don't discuss openly when it comes to this huh? I don't think I have ever shared my weight with people as much as I have in the past month.. I even braved adding a ticker,, now hopefully it will start moving huh? I have been on a salad bender for about two months, now eating lots of yogurt and fruit trying to prepare myself for the new eating habits.. I haven't had IBS symptoms since I started, and the reflux is getting better also, and I have been sleeping better too!! I hope my motivation continues and the hunger or urge to eat goes away! -
I had mine today! It was quick and painless. I had an upset tummy the rest of the day, but I kept drinking water and tea and it finally got all the barium out. Don't be surprised if you have a few loose stools after. I know TMI, but its true! Good luck, just remember it is all part of the journey. kelli

Pre-Band and thinking I want to have a baby
Jennie1976 replied to MissLynn23's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! I am posting this hoping you won't be offended, and am only saying these things because you asked for opinions. I would absolutely wait to have a baby. Your profile says you are 30 years old. Waiting a year to a year and a half is not unthinkable, even though I KNOW it seems like it is. I don't know how much you weigh, but I do know that in order to be approved for weight loss surgery, people have to be pretty overweight. You AND you baby will be healthier if you wait. On a non-weight note, it might also be better to be a couple a bit longer as well. More time is NEVER a bad idea. It may suck to wait, but it can really help you out in the long run. Again, not knowing much about you, I can tell you I felt very similar to how you feel right now pre-band. I can only speak from my experience. I am now 32 years old. I will be 33 when I have my baby (I am 24 weeks pregnant). I got banded September, 2007. Before I got banded, I had been with my now-husband for 7 years and married for over a year. We had been planning for a baby for ALL that time. We wanted to wait until we had a house, degrees, teaching credentials, jobs, etc. In short, we waited for security...and got it. Before my surgery, my periods were sporadic. Knowing I wanted to get pregnant about a year after our marriage, I had been tracking my periods/ovulation for that entire time. I knew it would be difficult because my periods were hit and miss. Also, on a completely superficial note, I knew I was going to just look "fatter", not pregnant. I was also afraid of pregnancy complications due to weight. I am 5'6". My starting weight was 290 pounds. I was busting out of my size 26s. One of my biggest fears of being pregnant (another superficial one) was finding maternity clothes. Then I saw and ad on TV for the lap-band surgery. I researched it, and saw that doctors recommended waiting at least a year to get pregnant. Again, like you, I REALLY thought about it. I had been wanting a baby for SOOO long! But, I had to put my family first. I knew that waiting was only going to be beneficial. So, I put my own feelings aside and had the sugery. Last June, I weighed 204 pounds. I had lost 86 pounds in 9 months. And I had decided that I had waited long enough. I KNOW the doctors say to wait a year, but I made the conscious decision to not listen to them (not that I'm advocating that!). Since I lost all that weight, my periods had become regular for the first time in my life. I was able to chart my ovulation with great accuracy. We got pregnant on the first try. And (WARNING: TMI coming up!), we were trying for a boy, so we only had sex ONCE on the day of my ovulation. It wasn't all that likely that we were going to get pregnant. I am absolutely convinced that, had I not lost the weight, we would STILL be trying. I KNOW this is an incredibly long reply, but I just want to make sure you see the benefits of waiting. I KNOW how hard it is. I WAS THERE! And I'm telling you with all the certainty God gave me that you should wait. Good luck and let us know what you decide! -
Okay all of this may be TMI but I need answers!!! I'm a month post op and have been kind of spotting dark brown every day since surgery. It stops right after shower for most of the day but comes back again and the odor is horrible. What is going on?! Another question, my boyfriend and I have tried to have sex and I can't get wet. That's never been a problem. We have to use lube now. That's no fun. I'm getting depressed. Please tell me I'm not alone and that I can fix all of this somehow
-
I hope this isn't too much information, but I'd like to know if anyone else has been experiencing this... so here goes... I am on my pre-op diet now (tomorrow will be my 6th month) and I've been really trying to change my habits the last two months. However, within the last two weeks I keep getting these intense stomach cramps and diarrhea at night only. It's weird I know. I was "googling" it to see what it could be and some sites it stated this can happen from a larger in-take of Water and change in eating habits. I have almost quadrupled the amount of water I drink, but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. Ugh... I feel so bad at night 3-4/week. Just curious...TMI?? Thanks!

Surgery date March 16th, who's with me? ????
txfirefly979 replied to foreversleeved08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sleeved the 19th around 10:30am. The first day wasn't bad but as general anesthesia wore off, the IV pain meds were NOT my friend. SO nauseous. powered through it (after puking some yellow bile) and got up and walked laps probably 4x that afternoon/evening. Dry mouth was horrendous... even with the swabs. thankfully I went for leak test around 8:30am so I was allowed to sip Water starting around 9:30am. finally around the 2pm shift change, nurse figured out it was IV pain meds causing the super nausea (since I kept begging for more anti-nausea and acid reducer, thinking that was the problem). switched to liquid hydrocodone and problem solved (although it did conk me out). Discharged 2nd day around 6pm, hubby stopped and got Rx filled while I walked around. got a bag of sonic ice and unsweet peach tea and headed home. haven't really taken pain meds since day #4 (even then, was to sleep) so feeling really blessed of easy recovery. also very lucky (TMI) to have 1st BM on Sunday evening. BUT then tonight, have had watery diarrhea 2x anyone else suffering with this? Is Imodium safe to take? all I have is pill form but I could chew it up. I know I'll definitely be adding a bit of sugar-free Fiber to water tonight and all liquids tomorrow but also dont want to be running (literally) to toilet all night . Also very worried b/c supposed to start back at work in a couple days.... definitely don't want this problem at work! (I have another 8 days of full liquids before purees..... sigh) reassurance/advice/suggestions appreciated! hope everyone else's recovery is moving along smoothly.... -
Oranges 1 month pre-op
reducer623 replied to Elizabethb36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely too much sugar. I tried a mango smoothie (Mango Lasi) and I was glued in the restroom for 30 mins (excuse the TMI). The sugar can make you dump. I've surely learned my lesson. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Packing for Hospital Stay
SleeveGirl-TX replied to smacbeth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very Little.... I wore the same outfit home that I wore to the hospital, just make sure it's loose and comfy. I bought clean undies and didn't put the bra on (incision is right at my bra line LOL Also: Chapstick Biotine (?) mouth spray A loose light robe (to cover the gown when walking) Slip on slippers for walking if you don't like those socks they give you, and I wore them home Your meds Toothbrush Hairbrush Book That was basically it. You aren't there long and the first day you're pretty drugged. I didn't even read much. TMI -- I had started my period that morning (and I'm told surgery brings it on for some ladies) and they gave me mesh undies and a bunch of pads. I hated the itchy mesh undies so had hubby bring several pair because I kept freaking leaking out the pads. They don't allow tampons. Stupid.
