  1. Hey everyone. I thought I would post something today just to release my mind. I am having surgery tomorrow to remove scar tissue. I'm a little bit nervous but sure everything will go well. I had a complete hysterectomy 9 years ago and the scar tissue has built up to where I am having a lot of pain. Pain when I cough or sneeze standing up and (TMI maybe) during and after sex. The doctor seems to believe the scar tissue is what is causing it so he is going in to burn it off. Meanwhile, I am really hungry. I am starting to have the shakes and it's not feeling all that wonderful. I am on a pure liquid diet all day long. I have to drink a full bottle of Magnesium followed by 2 enemas starting at 3:00 slow time. I've been through this several times in the past and not once do I remember having to be on a pure liquid diet. Good news about the liquid diet...By the time this is said and done, I am looking at at least 2 maybe 3 days of not eating (I tend not to have any appetiate at all the day after any surgery), I will have lost a little more weight. I think between 5 and 10 pounds. I am asking that everyone that reads this thread to keep me in their prayers. I know the good Lord will be with me before during and after my surgery holding my hand. I have a wonderful Doctor (I've been going to him for 11 years now) and he has a wonderful staff. I feel a little more at ease knowing this. After all this is over and I have healed enough, I need to go get a fill. So much easier getting a fill than having to go through an operation.

Gastric Bypass (RNY) and IBD - worse or better?

Thanks for the heads up. No, it is not too much TMI. With these issues I would rather know than to play it polite and be surprised. I think we probably have the same thing. I think it is IBS (Syndrome) and not IBD (Disease). Anyway, I am use to flare ups and have even had accidents in the past year at work. So, accidents after surgery will not be a new thing:) Maybe I will be more cautious and careful because of the surgery and I might even show some improvement. Thanks again!
  3. Hi there. I have IBS, not IBD, so I'm not sure if this response will be helpful. When I eat per doctor's plan, I am fine. I still get flare ups from the same foods that caused it before, but with the addition of embarrassing accidents. I would still have the surgery had I known, but probably more cautious. Also when I'm stressed it kicks in which also leads to accidents. My sisters have both suggested I wear a diaper but I can't bring myself to do that. I hope this wasn't TMI, but I thought I'd be honest. Good luck!

    Discomfort

Okay, this might be TMI, but I am going to ask the question. Yesterday I had a difficult time having a BM. After I finally had success, I had some discomfort in my band area. I thought it would disapate with time, but it hasn't. I am still have some discomfort there. I can eat with out getting stuck or having pain. Drinking is fine. I have stayed full for 3.5 hours on Breakfast so far. I do have a call in to the doc, but just wondering has any one else had this experience? I feel like it is most likely muscle strain from the straining, but not sure.
  5. I am on the first day of my all liquid pre-op diet, and OMG it is way harder than what I thought it would be. Thank goodness I just have to do it for two days. I am peeing out everything I put into me*sorry if that was TMI*. It is weird the regular pre op diet didin't bother me at all, but it has just been half a day on the full liquid and I am starving. This has got to be a head thing.I am not worried about it though because I am definitely going to do it. Have this happen to any of you guys?

    Please help

Is anyone else having trouble moving their bowels? Tmi I know but I feel as though I've tried everything and nothing is helping at all.
  7. Today is my 6 month surgiversary. I have been wanting this day to come for so long!!! I remember how miserable I was the first 8 weeks after surgery. Sometimes the only thing that would get me through it was knowing that I would someday be right here - near my goal, eating more normal food, and living a good life. I was not sure what to expect from this journey - and it continues to surprise me. In some ways I am more limited than I thought I would be. However, I am also a lot more successful than I thought I would be. As of today, I have lost 52 pounds, gone from a BMI of 31 to a BMI of 23, gone from a size 18/20 jeans to a snug size 10, gone from a 40DD bra to a 34DD bra (which is still hard to find). This surgery was everything the lap band promised to be, but wasn't. It has forced me to change my life. These changes are not always easy to make, but you really have no choice. I still struggle with the emotional side of eating certain things. I am still restricted to just over a 1/4 cup of food, but I find that I am able to eat again within an hour - this is where I have to try and be disciplined. It's always easier when I am busy :-) I find that I have no physical sensation of hunger, but I do have powerful cravings - something I still have to work on. I can't drink alcohol because of a burning sensation I get when I drink it. I could probably triple up on acid reducers to fix that, but I figure I'm not missing out on much by not drinking. I also stopped eating bread because of reflux issues. I find I can skip my acid reducer altogether if I eat clean and I eat small portions - it's worth it to me to try and eat the right way and skip the meds. I've been off the acid reducers for about 3 weeks. My weight loss has slowed down a little. I think I am eating between 1000 and 1200 cals a day - more on the weekends because I have more idle time and I will snack a little. My report says I have lost 5.5 pounds in the last 30 days. It seems to come off in small bursts now - no weight loss for 2 weeks and then 2 pounds in a few days. That cycle is fine with me :-) I would be happy at this weight forever, but I am curious to see where my body wants to settle. On a personal note, I got engaged last month. I went wedding dress shopping and my biggest fear is that the dress will be too big for them to alter when it gets here. Crazy. It's 2 months till the wedding and I am hoping that I don't lose too much. Oh well, we'll deal with that when it happens... Finally, I'll talk about health. I don't exercise - I know, I know, it's terrible. I just haven't been able to force myself into regular exercise. I do walk A LOT more than I used to - to the store, around the block, by the beach, etc. I don't take the Vitamins anymore and my 6 month bloodwork was perfect. I stopped taking the acid reducer last month and I noticed the weird taste in my mouth went away and I have more frequent BM's (sorry if too TMI), I get about 60 grams of Protein a day - all from meat / yogurt / cheese, I eat about 50 grams of carbs - mostly from granola or oatmeal. I still eat 5 to 6 times a day. I have 8 pounds until I reach my "made up" goal. I know in my 20's I was very healthy at 120 pounds which would be another 20 or so to lose. I don't know if I want to go there - at this point I feel like I am along for the ride. If I lose 10 more, great! If I lose 20 more, great! If I stay where I am, great!! Bottom line: right now, I am really happy. Good luck to all----
  8. I'm on puree and really miss my veggies. Has anyone juiced on puree or stage 4? I feel constipated (sorry...tmi) and would rather make a nice juice with leafy greens and apple (I could add my unflavored protein to it- so healthy!) I just don't know if sleeve can tolerate such a high level of minerals at once since puree stage has canned veggies as preferred (besides corn and beans, what else tastes good from a can?)
  9. So I'm a year out from my surgery, and last night I was thinking about the things no one told me I would experience post op. Here's my list: Sensitive tummy! I used to have a cast Iron stomach preop. I could eat ANYTHING and not get sick. I'm talking about food left out for a day or two, weird combinations of food, anything. NOW - my stomach is very sensitive and temperamental. I can eat something one day and be fine, and eat it the next day and it will send me straight to the bathroom. Tummy issues 2 - Before surgery, I used to be able to "hold" my poo (sorry if TMI) if I was in an inconvenient place (like work or the mall) until I got home. Not anymore. When I gotta go, I gotta go! And I cramp when I have to go. Drinking Water is a CHORE. I didn't realize how much of a chore drinking water would be - especially with the "no eating and drinking at the same time" rule. Presurgery I could drink 64 oz of water a day easily. Now, not so much. Deep down I thought being "skinny" would fix a majority of my issues. NOPE! My butt hurts constantly from sitting on things! I guess since some of the padding is gone, LOL. My refrigerator is a constant churn of leftovers. I am having trouble making peace with throwing away leftovers but I have to constantly. I don't get nervous about having physicals at the doctor anymore. If I eat the wrong thing late at night (there's one Protein bar in particular) it gives me indigestion really bad. What are some of the things that no one told you that you're experiencing post op?
  10. Ok this may be tmi for some but I'm freaked out because I have my period and my surgery is tomorrow. Can I wear a tampon? Is this going to a problem with the catheter? I have PCOS so my periods are unpredictable and I had no idea I'd get it now. :/

    Delicious Chili

Ohhhhh, emmmm, geeeee, you guys, this flatulence is ridiculous!! LoL!!! Sorry for the tmi comment but I'm weirded out because Beans have NEVER had this effect on me. Sheesh!! And I've made chili before and this has never happened. Anywhooo, I have about six servings in the freezer- and I don't care. Hubby better cover his ears for the next week or so.

    What can't you eat??

I only have a few things that I have problems with. Really dense breads(bagels are out), spaghetti and stringy pastas(but I can have other pasta that I can really chew well), sticky rice, and tough meats. But other than those few things I can eat just about anything but everyone is different because I love eggs. Also, all doctors are different because I eat all the things on that list from your doctor except tough meat and sticky rice, fluffy rice I can handle. So once you have your surgery you will have to find out for yourself the things that bother you. Ohhhhh I almost forgot I don't much broccoli anymore not because I can't chew it well, it now gives me too much gas (TMI).
  13. Ok, so how are you logging sex in mfp? I mean if you go at it for an hour are you putting undrr aerobics? Lol (embarrassed)
  14. So.. super TMI but, I’m at a loss here. Im on day 4 of my pre-op diet. I have 10 days to go. I get 3 protein shakes a day plus as much clear sugar free liquid and broth as I can stand. I did this diet before for 11 days before I had to reschedule my original surgery date. My problem here is that I have the worst diarrhea I have ever had in my entire life during this diet. I suspect the whey in the shakes and want to know if anyone else had/has this issue? My nutritionist had me switch shakes and same results. Any ideas?
  15. So, I hit my 3-week stall on Wednesday, and now it's Sunday. My stall has already vanished and I've lost an extra FOUR pounds since yesterday. Is this even normal? Yesterday, I did eat a TON of Protein. I mean, I ate so much that I thought I screwed up my diet. I ate like 5 pieces of beef tataki and 5 pieces of crab sticks. This is a lot to me considering it made me feel extremely full. I'm hoping my scale isn't wrong. I got on it 3 times and it keeps saying the same thing (229), and yesterday I weighed 232. It's my 4th day of PMSing so maybe the Water I was retaining has shed off of me, and I also had my first bowel movement yesterday since 3 days ago, (sorry TMI). Am I getting my hopes up? Or is this even possible?
  16. End up in emergeny for constipation. I take My fiber but haven't been again on 10 days. What do you all do if you have this problem.

Post- Op Day 3- Rashes And Revalations!

Great progress, I totally understand the "TMI", I have plenty of bodily noises that I make now that I just except and move on. Sounds like you are doing well with your proteins and liquids. I remeber thinking in the early days how would I ever get in all that protein, I was barely drinking or taking in 400 calories a day but it gets easier over time. Good Luck.
  18. I noticed that since my surgery my menstrual appears to be regulating compared to pre surgery were I would get my menstrual ever 60+ days if I was lucky. The first week I dropped 12lbs and my menstrual came on shortly after. Since then I lost additional weight and this morning my menstrual came on again, making it a 29 day long cycle, which is considered normal. It's still early to indefinitely say, but I will be tracking it the next few months to see if their is a trend. Anyone else every experience irregular periods pre op and regulate post op? Please comment
  19. HI Sammywammy, I'm 5 months out and promise you it does get better, albeit slowly!! Along my journey I have experienced stomach aches, shocker tummy rumbles, terrible (sorry tmi) smelly wind, PLUS many trips to the bathroom , nausea, stopping on the side of the road to vomit and the odd occurance of dumping. I still sometimes eat something (or a combination of foods) that makes me feel queezy or that sends me to he bathroom in a hurry. The first year is trial and error, and everyone is different about what they can tolerate. Some weeks it feels like Im back to square one and can barely get anything down, then the next week Im eating like a horse (well a small horse thats had GBP ). I now have some "safe" foods that I fall back on. You will find yours in due time.
  20. In the spirit of TMI  ... When my son was a newborn, he was constipated. The doctor had me mix in 2 teaspoons of Karo Corn Syrup into his bottle. Without getting too graphic, let's just say the next day his bowels "let go". Maybe that would help.
  21. I know this is TMI, but I am desperately in the NEED to know! My bowels have not moved since B4 surgery. Tomorrow, April 2nd marks one week out. Is this normal? Any suggestions on what to take?

    Getting hungry!

I'm 10 months post op and I get hungry if I don't eat every few hours. My NUT said it's natural and many people eat 6 small meals a day or 3 meals and 3 small snacks between after bariatric surgery long term instead of 3 large meals. Also I've found that as a female I'm hungrier during my time of the month and TMI but due to my heavy periods my primary care doc said that I might need higher calories during that time.

    Common Channel Traditional DS

I'm a week out from surgery I got the modified DS (which I'm sure is the same thing you're talking about because my common channel is longer) but my recovery was really easy. I work and I am in graduate school. I took 2 weeks off of work but honestly could probably go back now, as for school I only needed a week off but could have gone back by my 4th day. My surgeon suggested the switch for me because my weight loss goal, the weight I'm at now (BMI 59.4) and he does test for your metabolism and mine is significantly low. He told me if I were to get the sleeve he doesn't think I would be happy with the results, so I went with the switch. So far my gas is pretty foul smelling (tmi but it's a little like sulfur) but I don't have too much gas, my bm's however aren't smelly at all (that could be due to me still being on liquids). However, I do get pretty fatigued but my body just went through something traumatic so that's expected, but so far I'm very happy with my DS:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Ok it's exactly a week today since my surgery, and no BM this whole time. I took 2 ex lax pills crushed up yesterday, and nothing. I crushed 2 more today and so far nothing. It's obviously only been liquids for the last 3 weeks, and today is first day to incorporate puréed food. So obviously nothing should have come out in that area anyways right? I have no cramping or discomfort. I am having moments of flatulence ???? so I assume it's working right down there !? Anyone else experiencing similar issue? TIA ????
  25. Figured I'd say Hi, as there doesn't seem to be a lot of men on this board. I'm 28, and just recently relocated to the Northwest, and decided it was time to lose this weight. Moving from Texas, where the majority of everyone is severely obese, I found myself in the extreme minority out here. The looks and rude comments behind my back have led me to this point. I also am having extreme knee problems, from walking up two flights of stairs each day at work. I attended a WL seminar last week, and I'm still waiting to hear back from their office on insurance verification for surgery. From all the research I've done with BCBS MA, I don't think there's any issue with me qualifying. The doctor told me it's usually a 6-8 week process from insurance verification, so here's looking to two months out Having never worked out before in a gym, do any of the men have suggestions on where to start, after getting surgery? Is a personal trainer worth it? When I was in the military, I was accustomed to running 5 mile runs every other day, so I don't think cardio will be much problem at all. Finally, for my first topic, I brew beer. I brew damn good beer in fact. Is beer drinking (even very occasionally) something that I will need to give up? I'm not talking about downing a 12 pack of coors, I'm talking about enjoying a delicious home-brewed coffee chocolate stout with 8.9% abv, once in a blue moon. Thanks, and I hope it wasn't TMI for my first post.
