Thanks! 🥰 I was 10 days post-op in this photo. Recovery has been more challenging than I expected. The fatigue has really been getting me down. I am missing my normal energy levels so much. 😕

    Anybody not working out??

My approach to exercise has two elements. First, I do track my steps. I'm a hard data person, and I like something simple that I can quantify. When I started out I was getting 5000 steps a day. I gradually increased 200 steps a week and worked up to 10,000 steps a day. I picked that number because my doctor said it was a good goal. Research varies on what is best, but most will put the optimal number between 8,500 and 12,000 steps a day for good cardiac health and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle. Lot of research out there about how awful sitting for most of the day is for you. In maintenance, I do 10,000 steps a day. When i'm actively trying to lose (went up a couple pounds and want to correct) I'll increase to 12-14,000 a day. I have had a few days in the 20,000s and a couple in the 30's.....but most often I'm somewhere between 10 and 14...and for me, this feels perfect. The other element of my approach to exercise...is to do active things that I LOVE. I never do exercise I hate, or that bores me. I garden, ride my bike, swim, run my dog, hike with friends....stuff that makes me smile and feel good. I also mow my lawn. With a push mower. How many people pay for a gym membership, and go home and ride a riding lawn mower! Seems crazy to me. Lawn mowing is an awesome work out...upper and lower body, core...good stuff...and you get to look behind you and see how much you've done. Finishing the work kinda pushes you to commit....and at the end your yard looks terrific. I know this sounds psycho, but I kinda love to mow my lawn. This level of exercise supports a 1600 calorie a day diet. I like having this many calories, and I like keeping my heart healthy. I also like the muscle definition in my arms and legs. Hubby says I have Wonder Woman legs. LOL.

    Food Before and After Photos

This is the pizza dough recipe I used. I accidentally just mixed everything together and it was fine. It made to 9x13 sheet pans of dough instead of a 12” round, unless you want a Thick pizza dough but everyone said it was good. My brownie secret is a box of Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix that I follow the directions for. loaded chip brownies- add 1/3 cup of semi-sweet, milk chocolate, white chocolate, and butterscotch chips into batter Cheesecake brownies- mix 8oz softened cream cheese with 1 cup sugar (or sugar substitute, and an egg until fluffy and swirl into batter before baking. Add 5-10 minutes baking time.
  4. I had my revision DS surgery last June 3 20201. Had a blockage from surgery on June 4th stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. Just had another blockage 2 months ago and had surgery again. This time he removed the blockage and a ton of scar tissue. Well, my big problem is I have lost 215lbs. I started at 565lbs and am down to 350lbs. I am going nuts, I can't loose another pound to save my life. I tried the whole Krispy Kreme thing it was a no go. I am doing premier protein shakes. They told me to do 80mg of protein a day, but I cut back. I don't feel like I have lost a thing. I had plans by now. Skin removal, boob job, and neck fixed. Now I am a failure. I feel like my family looks at me as if I wasted my chance, like I did with the gastric bypass 10 years ago. I haven't. I take my vitamins and do everything right. Is there a diet pill or something someone recommends? The only weight I lost was a month ago when I got direaha for 4 days straight. 😪 thanks Jamie
  5. 10 months out and i still freeze when people give me compliments, I smile and say thank you. I feel like a imposter, loosing 100 pounds has freed me to be healthier and to hang out with my kids, so many good things have happened, yet I still feel like a fake for taking the “easy “ way out it was one of the hardest things I ever did was and trying new things wearing skinny jeans, walking working out not feeling self conscious about wearing a swim suit, I am a bit self conscious about saggy skin, but my husband says I’m still beautiful. No I need to try to accept that myself . Unfortunately he has gained some weight since I lost weight, and he is a bit more negative the he used to be, even his mom said dude chill out and that was eye opening to hear my mother in-law say. We signed up for a gym membership for the summer. I will try to go there more often. Thanks for listening any advice that helped you emotionally or otherwise TIA

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hello! I’m scheduled July 9th for bypass. I’m sure each surgeon is different so do what yours tells you. But mine wants me on a two-week diet prior to surgery in the hopes that I’ll lose 10-15 lbs and help shrink my liver for an easier operation. my nutritionist needs me on two protein shakes a day and one light meal, with some snacks. Salads cauliflower cucumbers etc are unlimited with lite ranch. Some mother snacks were on the list. My clinic is extremely thorough and even gave us a shopping list and discount codes for certain protein shakes and vitamins. They want me to also change behaviors prior to surgery, such as no alcohol, no fizzy waters, hew food extremely thoroughly, so I’m used to it by my surgery date.

    Anybody not working out??

Exercise for it's own sake is boring. BORING. As such, I've never cared to sustain 'working out.' Even when I was much younger and decent shape I didn't do gyms. Hated it. But participating in sports I enjoyed. Games are fun, gyms not so much. When I had my surgery we lived in Las Vegas. My surgery was open (cut open stem to stern then a drain for a couple weeks) so doing much of anything wasn't going to happen. Heck, breathing barely happened because any movement was painful. Thinking of breathing was slightly less painful. Once the tubes and staples were removed we began doing all sorts of people watching and walking. The first walk I was able to make it perhaps a hundred or so meters. As time moved on and weight moved off we were walking up to 10 miles up and down the strip or wherever else we walked. Still, exercise for it's own sake was not in my plans. When I got down to a weight that began with 2-- I had an abundance of energy and thought it would be interesting to see if I could do the 'couch to 5k' program to see if I could run 5k. I had no intention of doing more than accomplishing the goal. When I managed running the 5k I found it was enjoyable. As running became part of my daily routine I found it gave me time to ponder the day ahead and to listen to audio books. A few times I tried hitting the treadmill in the gym. I did everything identical to running outside and it was pure torture. Hated every step. The gym felt crowded and I felt on display whereas outside I felt free and alone. So, I never did 'work out' in a gym. Do what you enjoy. If you like it you will do it. It's your life do it your way. Good luck, Tek

    Anybody not working out??

I had zero motivation to work out, until about 5/6 months out when I'd lost a decent amount of weight and physically it was easier. Still didn't really want to exercise, but did some long walks. Something strange has happened at almost 10 months out and I just want to run, all the time. I've never been a runner so I can't really figure out why, but sharing just to give an example of how things have changed for me. It's very hard to work out when already in a huge calorie deficit, which is possibly why I feel much more up for working out now my weight and diet are more 'normal'. I hope you figure out something that works for you, but don't worry too much if you're not feeling it yet. 😊

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: Good news, I've been able to sleep regularly (on my sides) all week now without anything feeling like it's burning or tugging. Bad news.......I think I've been in that dreaded stall everyone talks about. LOL For the last week to 10 days I have been bouncing back and forth, up and down between the same 2-4 lbs. I ONCE got down to 285.8, which was two days ago, but mostly the scale keeps showing ranges between 286 and 289. Has NOT gone below 285.8 at all since that ONE time/day. So, that means at most I've only lost 14 lbs since surgery 24 days ago. Really sucks. Especially since I have done nothing new but move on to the soft food stage. I've been getting all my water in, or very close to it, and all my protein. Have been taking my vitamins regularly too. This stall really messes with your head cause you think, I'm doing things by the book and calories fall mostly between 400-700 calories a day so, why isn't this working? I already have fears of this not working for me because I've eaten low calories like this in the past with well balanced food and 3 meals a day like I am now and it got me no where. Which is why I got the surgery. And also why I always questioned why and how surgery would make that any different if essentially I'm still doing the same thing I've already tried and done in the past, ya know? Anywho, I guess the only comfort I have is knowing this is SUPPOSEDLY the norm and that it happens to many people. So, I'll go with that for now and keep my fingers crossed that things start moving again soon.

    Approved and Anxious!

the thought of regain is what has kept me on track for the last six years. I did bounce up 20 lbs after hitting my lowest weight (which admittedly was too low for me - I look better now), but that 10-20 lb bounce back during year 2 or 3 is extremely common, so I wasn't shocked by that. As for now, I know it'd be really easy to gain weight if I stopped paying attention - and the thought of that makes me pay attention! I still log my food and still weigh myself at least once a week so I can jump quickly onto any gain and get it back under control. This will probably be a lifelong thing...

Already a vegetarian been for 10 yrs and im still 300 pounds Sent from my LM-X220PM using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I actually lost around 70 pre-op but I did over 50 of that on my own before I even met with the surgeon. I think when I met with the surgeon for the first time in late October I had lost around 53 lbs (COVID scared me so that’s what kickstarted me trying to lose weight). I lost close to another 20 after meeting with the surgeon but to be honest 10 of those were on the pre-op diet. I didn’t work as hard at trying to lose weight around the holidays as I wanted to enjoy and had some food funerals (didn’t stuff myself but didn’t restrict as much as I did prior to meeting with the surgeon).

    June Surgeries

I just received my surgery date for 6/22. I am really excited, it's been a long 6 months. Before surgery I have to have a balloon dilation of my esophagus on 6/17 due to my hiatal hernia with Schatzki's ring. The Schatzki's ring is a narrowing of the lower esophagus. Currently, I am asymptomatic but it can cause difficulty swallowing as well as other unpleasant symptoms. 10 years ago, I had lap band surgery and as you all well can imagine it didn't end well and I had the lap band removed 5 years ago. Now, I am ready for this new chapter. I have been just reading all of the posts for the past 3-4 months and have found a lot of interesting information and comfort within the community. Looking forward to the best possible outcome moving forward!
  16. I recently moved to soft foods, but noticed I wasn’t eating many carbs each day (less than 30 grams). Today I’ve had 10 grams. While I’m not looking to carb load, some carbs are healthy and needed (my program recommends less than 100 each day). I’m just under three weeks post-op. Where did everyone get their carbs early on?
  17. I had the revision surgery on May 19 and I have had no issues. With a sleeve I had issues swallowing and had to stay in the hospital another night. Basically I had no pain except a headache a couple days later. I’ve tolerated everything just fine. Frankly it was just much easier than the sleeve.

    June Surgeries

Congrats to everyone who has had surgery so far. Sounds like everyone is doing well for the most part. My big day is tomorrow! Honestly, I've been so swamped at work trying to get everything wrapped up I have had very little time to even think about it. I'm hoping to pack my bag tonight and then figure out how to stay really busy tomorrow morning. I have to take a Celebrex tonight, wash again with a special soap in the morning and then drink a GED mix at 10:30am. Surgery is at 1:30 tomorrow. I'm glad to finally be here. A little nervous about the actual surgery, but, I know everything will be ok. I'll try to check in when I get home from the hospital to update everyone! @t0bell@ can you tolerate ice chips or maybe suck on a sugar free popsicle? I'm wondering if that very small amount of liquid slowly melting might help your throat feel better and may be manageable from a swallowing perspective. Gotta keep those fluids going so you don't get dehydrated! It will get better, hang in there!
  19. For my 53rd birthday my husband bought me a boudoir session through Susan Page Studios as a reward for losing so much weight. I am looking for a tasteful set of bra and panties in black or maybe a pretty dark blue for the shoot. The problem is the loose skin left in the pubic area. I am currently a 36D or 36DD bra and roughly a size 10 pant. I carried all of my weight in my belly. I am 146 pounds and 5'4" so still have a bit of a stomach roll. They suggest no thongs and something more like cheekies, lacies, hipsters or boy shorts. The shoot is July 22nd so I have a little time. I will bring 5-6 outfits and shoot in 3-4 outfits. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy a tasteful bra/panty set that provides a little extra coverage in the nether regions but is still a little sexy. I wouldn't mind a bra that provides a little lift. At this age and with the weight loss the girls can use a little help. Has anyone else done one of the boudoir sessions? If so, did you have fun?

    Insurance Through Postop

MONTH SEVEN! I’m excited today can you tell? 1. Finished my couch to 5k app. I can run for 30 minutes straight now! I am working on slowly increasing my speed now because I might be tall but I am slow. Working on it though! 2. I AM IN ONDERLAND!!!! 198.4 this morning. I haven’t been here in probably 12 years, and even that was for a short period of time. I am so excited. I’m overweight now, and getting closer to a normal weight. 10.8 lbs down this month which is great. I’m 140 lbs down total. 28.5 BMI. I went on a roadtrip with my husband and kids and it was so good. We went on so many hikes and I was able to do everything. We went out to a winery and a brewery and I had one glass at each place and felt perfectly satisfied. But I had great energy and had a wonderful time not feeling like I was holding everyone back, or making the trip all about where I could eat next. Food was an afterthought to us having a wonderful time as a family, like it should be. Goals for this month? Well I’m coming up on the one year anniversary of starting to diet in preparation for surgery. I’d love to hit 150 lbs lost- might be a bit too ambitious at this stage, but a girl can dream. 1. Increase my speed by .5 mph running. 2. Lose 10 lbs at best, 7 lbs at least. 3. Have fun on my camping trip, and over 4th of July weekend without it all being food related.

    Sleeve & gallstones

I had to get my gallbladder taken out about 10 months after my surgery. I was having really bad gallstone attacks that at first I thought were heart symptoms. After it was out, I took about a week off work to recover, I've felt so much better!! No more random middle chest pains! The only thing I was bummed about was having two surgeries less than a year apart, but I guess feeling better is the main goal so I can't complain. My surgery was outpatient, I was home the same day.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Mine told me to take my steristrips off between 7-10 days so I took them all off on day 9.
  23. I am hoping someone else can shed light or maybe give me some ideas/an avenue to explore. I had my GB in February of 2020. It has been nearly a year and a half of ups and downs. Roller coasters, a lot of insight and enlightenment. It has been HARD. Like, really, really hard. I am sick nearly every day. Some days, I could eat 2 slices of pizza with no issue (that's RARE and just an example) but other days I can eat 1/4 cup of oatmeal and water and puke violently. I've noticed meat is almost always a no-go. Red meat, especially. In any variation (ground, steak, etc). I usually only crave carbs anymore and I'm constantly thirsty. Let me just make clear just exactly how sick I am, though: Waking up, nothing on my stomach- throwing up within 10 minutes of waking up. Driving to work, start dumping after having 100 calorie nut bar or cereal for breakfast. Even water, occasionally. Having the urge to go to the bathroom, nothing happens. Multiple times a day. Then, one day, I run to the toilet rocking back and forth hoping for the good lord to take me out of my misery since it feels like I'm giving birth in my intestines. Holding a trash can in front of me because my mouth is watering with anticipation of puking. The dumping is INTENSE. Like, I don't wanna live it's so miserable (FYI- I am NOT suicidal!). My heart races, my whole body tenses and gets super hot. I feel like I'm dying. Like, actually dying. I am just overwhelmed because when this first started, I went to the ER, did a CT, EGD, Biopsy, Blood work....Everything was unremarkable. They wanted me to get a gastric emptying study done, but I feel like I'm going around and around. I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that this is related to the GB. No questions. I also will have severe pain in my RUQ (right upper quadrant) that shoots to my shoulder. Gallbladder was out in 2018. It is starting to affect my school, work and personal life. GI doctors are limited in this area so I am at a loss. They don't want to do anything else and I am so frustrated. I take Linzess for IBS-C that my weight loss doctor prescribed. I need an alternative. Can anyone give any input? Any similar experiences?

Scared to stop losing going into puréed stage??

Thank you all! Great advice! I’m curious to see what my nutritionist says on Thursday! In my plan? The liquid stage is for 10 days...Saturday I get real food! also just wanted to share if it helps... I don’t know if you guys drank the Ispopure clear drink while recovering? It’s a non-milky alternative to the numerous protein shakes and has zero carbs and 40 g of protein in 1 20 oz bottle so for those of us who have struggles trying to get the fluid intake you can kill two birds with one stone with that! I’m a busy hygienist wrapped in masks all day so it’s very difficult as well for me to keep up with the fluids and calories while at work. Also, fair life has a 42 g protein shake called CorePower you can find at Wawa if you want to try singles for flavor....that has also been helping!

Scared to stop losing going into puréed stage??

When I got to the solid food stage at my one month follow up the PA told me to eat 800 calories per day. I am a nurse, and when I work 12 hour shifts I’m often too busy to meet my goal of calorie intake. What I have noticed is that one day when I managed to eat only 630 calories for the day my appetite/urge to eat felt stronger the next day. At work I often drink protein shakes because I don’t have the time to sit and chew one ounce of food every 10 minutes as that was also recommended. I really make an effort to get my 800 calories. My BMI was at 50 when I started 2 months ago and my BMI is now 44.
