    Hey all, Thank you for your lovely comments ❤️ I genuinely appreciate every single one of them. I'm still in a bit of a slump at the moment! I have gained for the first time in my weight loss journey (albeit just 1lbs at the moment but still), my weight doesn't seem to be shifting down currently. I also bumped into a friend today who said: "you are looking so much better"...like...okay... I hope this mood/weight gain/stall goes away soon x

    B-12 doesn't sound like it would be concerning from what you all are saying. although I am salty af that all my labs are great but my hair is still shedding HAHA!
  3. I am a revision so I hwe sleeve 3.5 years ago and it did tend to go in spurts for me too. A few days with nothing lost and then a couple of pounds drop. Or a week or two worth 3-4 pound loss. Apparently that’s not at all uncommon.

    October 2024 Surgery Buddies

    Today I am officially one month post op. I just had my follow up with the team and I've lost 11.6kg (25.6 lbs) since surgery. They said this total weight loss "was slightly above expected range." So I don't know if I lost more than they expected me to or less than they expected me to, but they seem happy with my progress either way. They've also said as soon as I have no abdominal pain, I can start cycling again! I'm so happy to get back on the bike. Especially since in total, I've lost 24.1 kg (53 lbs) so I should be able to go further and faster on the bike!

    Reporting my win for the week: Since surgery on 4/11/24 i have remained with steady weight loss about 2 to 2.5 pounds per week. I do not own a scale and went to my parents to visit this weekend and stepped on their scale im down another 13 pounds from last month. I think my walking about 5 miles daily also helps if not helping with weight management definitely helps with my mental health. I feel so good after working out! 🏋️‍♀️. Let's us all win for the future weeks ahead!
  6. So I am four months post op from my revision and I just had an MRI for something unrelated but my dr said I have fatty liver. This is very puzzling to me because I get my labs every 6 months and nothing has been off to indicated elevated enzymes and of course they were just in there and didn’t think it looked bad?? Google does say that “bypass” and rapid weight loss are risk factors on one site but I would like to think that would be a temporary issue that resolves itself? I am going to call my surgeon first thing tomorrow but I’m just curious to know if anyone else has had anything like this. I recall a few people saying their liver labs came back elevated and their bariatric teams were not concerned but what about imaging?

    stalling just 1 week post op

    Frustrating & upsetting I know but like everything about this experience (including the amount of weight you lose, your rate of loss, your time line for losing, etc.) the three week stall is just an average. Some will stall earlier & some will stall later. They usually last 1-3 weeks but could be more or less. Don’t worry, you will start to lose again. Just give your body time to reset it itself and work out your new needs. You’ll notice the scales dropping again when your body is ready. Can’t force it. You’ll only stress your body & yourself more.

    6 months post op 4 months of stall

    Don’t be discouraged at the stall. I had surgery on 12/18/23 at 219. A year and 1 month later I am at 180 and have been here for 6 months. Sometimes I dip into the 170’s but I bounce back to my current set point of 180… Currently… I am ok with that because I can see the changes in how I look and how my clothes fit. I have struggled with eating the proper amounts of protein since having a set back in March 2024. I am struggling really hard with acid reflux and getting enough sleep. It is getting better and I am willing to put my weight loss on hold while I try to get this under control and avoid a corrective surgery. Give yourself some grace. This is hard to do. 💖 Just try to stay positive, be focused and talk to your care provider. Ask lots of questions, don’t leave until you feel like you truly understand which direction to go next when they help you lay out a new plan. … and take notes because it’s hard to remember everything they say during the appointment.

    Question for post op surgery and matcha

    I know programmes differ hugely but my surgeon placed absolutely no restrictions on caffeine and I was hugely grateful. I have no idea whether there is good evidence that caffeine consumption affects weight loss after bariatric surgery but I suspect very much not. @GreenTealael do you have any evidence to share? I am a coffee, not a matcha drinker, but I know how much I valued those coffees in the weeks and months after my surgery. Might be worth drilling down into the actual evidence based practice with your team if matcha means as much to you!

    Lost Focus This Week

    Seriously, this honestly sounds like my house - 2 deliveries today, 1 tomorrow, 2 Thursday. Not all weight loss related though, trying to get stuff bought now for the dreaded “C” word in December 😬 Just look at it as you’re not buying as much food so it should all balance out eventually…sort of…maybe 😉
  11. Congratulations on your incredible journey and your active, healthy lifestyle—what an inspiration! I love how passionate you are about staying active, and your tip to find activities you love and obsess over them is such a great reminder to make this journey fun and sustainable. Your weight loss stats are amazing—75 lbs both before and after surgery is incredible! I can imagine how great it must feel to have maintained so well, even with the natural changes over time. I’m curious, do you think most bypassers can have a happy ending like yours if they just stick to the rules? It’s reassuring to hear about maintenance not being as scary as it seems! Also, your “smell trick” is so interesting—what a unique way to give yourself a boost when you need it. And dumping on sugar definitely seems like a blessing in disguise for keeping things in check. Thanks so much for sharing your story—it’s so motivating to hear from someone thriving years after surgery!
  12. Glad it went well for you both. As you don't have your stats in your bio or post it is hard to give any answer on the weight loss. Have you had post-op consultations with the team to know if they (knowing your details) consider you on track? Are you hitting your protein goals? Are you getting enough fluids? What is your daily food intake like?

    I hope the nausea gets better quickly. Maybe it’s a specific food? Could you get more Zolfran? I didn’t take time off either and regretted it. Maybe you can still do FMLA if needed. I still get exhausted by 2pm and just need a nap. Congratulations on the weight loss!! Feel better ❤️‍🩹 soon.

    When a colleague or friend tells me I am looking well, which is happening more often now, I am learning simply to say "thank you" and not do a longer answer like I used to with such things as "thanks, I had a shower today" or "thanks I brushed my hair" as before if anyone said it I didn't believe them - how could they think I looked well if I didn't think or feel it? Now I know I am looking well (albeit tired) so I am learning to get comfortable with people noticing. I wouldn't consider that I had a resting b*tch face but before I would just have a 'not interested, ignore me' resting face, now I try to remember to smile and find it is happening naturally. So when sitting on the bus or at my desk etc I have a little smile and I think that then rubs off on those around me.
  16. Wow, first of all, congratulations on your incredible success and maintaining such a fantastic weight range for so long! It's truly inspiring to hear how you've stayed on top of it, especially noticing the 20 lbs gain and taking charge of it so quickly—kudos to you for that! 💪 I’m curious, how long did it take you on Mounjaro to lose those 20 lbs? It’s so impressive how proactive you’ve been, and it's encouraging to see how effective it was for you! I’m definitely considering some work down the line after I hit my perfect weight—a boob lift for sure, and then I’ll reassess the loose skin situation. I think it’s so amazing that you’ve embraced becoming a ‘brand new you’—I’m excited to see where my own journey takes me! I do have a bit of a fear of NOT losing, even though my weight loss has been steady so far. Did you ever have moments of doubt, or did it feel smooth all the way for you?

    As @ynotiniowa, said the time it takes for your head to catch up with the reality of your actual size contributes a lot to the dysmorphia for us: we can only see how we used to look because our size dominated & limited so much in our lives. It also affects friends and family who struggle to see the real you with your weight loss. For some family and friends it’s behind those ‘you’ve lost too much’ & ‘it’s time you stop losing’ comments they make. Personally, I found those skinny mini comments most upsetting (that specific phrase was most upsetting too) especially when I knew I still had weight to lose and I was no where near my goal. I knew, in most cases, it was people acknowledging my weight loss and congratulating me. I knew I should use it as motivation but I saw it more as them really saying you were huge before. It took a while after my weight stabilised for me to be comfortable and actually take pleasure in the you’re slim or small comments. Honestly, I still enjoy them today. I tell myself it’s because I worked hard to lose the weight and continue to work hard to maintain it & I’ve earnt the recognition. The reality is I’ve become a lot more vain than I was before and enjoy the attention. Lol!

I also am scared of losing hair, but from what I gather there isn't much we can do about preventing it - but it'll only be temporary if it does happen I just take the gummies to make my hair in a better condition as it is now! Definitely! I think some vitamins like B12 & D, the absorption is actually quite poor in tablet form, so the sprays help with that! Oh bless her I know that can happen with some people! So I paid privately in the UK, and it is a 2 year package of aftercare that includes: 1 week post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 4 week post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 8 week post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 12 week post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse nutritional screen blood test 10 days before 6 month appointment 6 month post-op appointment with a dietician 9 month post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 12 month post-op appointment with a dietician and a follow-up with the psychotherapist 15 month post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 18 month post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 21 month post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse 24 month post-op appointment with a bariatric nurse

I’m truly sorry you’re going through this, but I’m so proud of your strength and mindset. It’s inspiring how you’re balancing everything—your walks, yoga, and still staying on track despite such a tough situation. You’re absolutely right—starting this weight loss journey and having those strong habits in place is helping you fight this with such resilience.     25 years post sleeve.

    Thought I would pop in. I had my sleeve done January 2010. When I started my weight loss I I weighed over 300 pounds. 5 ft 2 ; I wouldn’t even go to my doctor at 320. I lost weight before I started officially. So here I am. 68 years old and I have lost the last 10 pounds I had been fighting with over the last two years. I AM LESS THAN HALF MYSELF. I weigh 150. And have for the last 5 months. I wear a size 12 jeans ! And bought size Medium tops. I have never worn a size 12 . Still working full time and take care of my adult daughter who has disabilities. Organic vegetable gardening - and raise hens for eggs. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to be healthy and to have a doctor tell you “ at your age and having excess skin and where you started … you do not need to lose more weight. You are good where you are. “. I know. My bmi could be lower but I am good where I am. Who knew that even existed.
  22. Oh, and this was me yesterday after I got the incision restitched. No more preggo looking tummy!!! I still have a little swelling, but even that's gonna get better. And then the other pic is me about 10 minutes ago. I got my hair cut this morning because it's friggin too hot for long hair lol

    Had my consult 01/14/25

    I know it is hard but try not to let her (and anyone else with a negative attitude) get to you. You have taken a big step and congratulations on starting the journey to a new you. Did the medical team say they wouldn't operate if you didn't reach the 34lb loss? I am sure they don't stop everything if you are just a few pounds short so don't stress if you can help it. You say it is a supervised plan so I presume they are used to helping patients follow it and adapt it to an individuals needs so that should be a help for you. You are so motivated (studying, saving etc) that you will do your best and any loss pre-surgery is a win. I had sleeve surgery and in the months before I tried my best to eat smaller portions so I switched to an appetiser sized bowl and plate for most of my meals. I knew I would be using them after the surgery so figured may as well ease myself into it. I also tried to start eating slower - I am still not great at that but better than before. Food wise don't go so extreme that you then self sabotage at some point out of desperation for a food you love. We all have different reasons for getting to the size we do that needs surgical intervention, for me it was partly not knowing when to stop eating, too much carbs and alcohol and not exercising at all. I didn't have to go on a diet pre-op or do the liver reduction thing a lot of patients have to do but in the weeks before my surgery I went on holiday and ate everything I wanted so actually went up in weight so then when I returned I just cut down on things but still allowed myself an occasional treat, so instead of pastries for breakfast I had Greek or skyr yogurts, shop bought sandwiches etc for lunch were swapped for homemade veg soup, for dinners instead of pizza's, burgers and pasta dishes I tried to have more chicken & veg based meals, cutting back on a lot of carbs. I swapped out rice and pasta for cauliflower rice or lentil pasta. These small changes helped me get back on track before my surgery but as I didn't have to follow a pre-surgery diet plan it was more for me, so as to get into good habits. I am sure there will be plenty of advice and support here for you 💪

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

    Dr Matthew Weiner is a great resource so am glad @NickelChip recommended his video. Another is Dr John Pilcher also a great source of information. It’s not really about popularity or the most performed but about which surgery is best for you. Your surgeon should really take into consideration your current health status and history, your weight loss and gain history, your current weight and how much would be beneficial for you to lose, etc. Also discuss the possibility of side effects like malabsorption, dumping, reflux, regain with the surgeries and what you might be willing or not to live with or manage. Do your research, watch these videos and others they may have and prepare questions to ask your surgeon. If you don’t think they’re as comfortable doing one surgery over another or you don’t feel comfortable with their responses, seek a second opinion or a referral to another surgeon. And remember there are other surgeries beside sleeve and bypass so look into them as well (Sadi, duodenal switch,, RNY, or a mini bypass). I would avoid a gastric balloon or gastric banding but that’s my opinion only.
