  1. So today I had some Honey Treat Yogurt with Reeses. It was my first slip up and I immediately regretted. My brain and my sleeve are in agreement, never doing that again.

I think fish with a light sauce is the easiest to digest. Chicken is the next easiest to digest in my opinion. I've done chicken tetrazzini, Vietnamese beef stew with carrots. Crock pots help the food cook for a long time and get very soft. Just search on google & enjoy!

Beef stew sounds so good. But I'm sure I couldn't eat that yet. Refried beans and salsa mixed with a little nacho cheese little much yet.

I would try the fish in a light sauce first. That's not as dry or dense.

  5. I am so hella sick of protein shakes. Having to force myself to drink them to get my protein, as the powder makes pre-made pudding and yogurt taste funny. Won't get cleared for puree/soft until Wed afternoon. I'll get through this, but last night I seriously wanted to suck the salt off of a cracker my hubby was eating. LOL. Chew and spit makes more sense in my head now. LOL

How about making some bone broth, adding some nutritional yeast to increase the protein, then drinking it either hot or cold?? Might be a nice savory change.

I used to drink the Unjury chicken broth a lot as well. It was a nice change from all the sweet protein drinks. I still drink it once in awhile.

The Unjury soup was ok, but not great, and I ran out of my samples. We're working with different methods of getting protein powder in broth or boullion, that's better but it's tricky with the powder. I picked up some premier protein, it's better. I'll get through it. :)

  6. 2 week appointment went well... cleared for exercise without lift and egg/yogurt/soft cheese in 6 days. Looking forward to chewing :)

  7. Had surgery last Thursday, so I've been home for 2 days as of 15 minutes ago.  I weighed more when I got discharged than when I went in despite only having eaten a Jello cup in 2 days, but I put that down to inflammation. This morning I weighed a little less than I went in.  I sneezed last night and my fiance saw me cry for the first time, and we've been together 16 years. I took my multivitamin first thing this morning and threw up. Kept it down after drinking 4oz protein shake. Yogurt gives me diarrhea, water hurts more than the fuller liquids, and my stomach is turning somersaults and I think I'm hungry because I'm used to interpreting it that way, but I have no desire to eat.

My biggest problem is that I am used to being busy.  I own a business and I've been getting active on these boards, and when I'm on my laptop I forget to drink. Will I hurt myself if I drink faster?  I've been scheduling 4oz every 30 minutes with breaks before and after meals.  Is it too fast to drink 4 oz in 15 min to get caught up on what I missed?

  8. I just had a teaspoon of hummus with a teaspoon of avocado topped with a teaspoon of greek yogurt and it. was. GLORIOUS. I'm four days out and my surgeon gave me the greenlight to work in small amounts of pureed food.

  9. FYI. I'm going to discuss poop! I'm a Registered Nurse x16yrs.  It's possible this might be to much information for some but I'm not gonna sugar coat my info/experience. I hope some find this much detail helpful.

Post op gastric sleeve 8 days out. The first day/night was AWFUL. I believe the majority of discomfort was from all the gas placed in the abdomen during surgery. Day 3 I started have less pain from the gas yet the spasm/pulling/tightness in right lower quadrant of abd. continues to this day (maybe a 4 on the pain scale w/ 10 being worst). I recommend WALK, splint your abdomen w/ a small pillow to cough/sneeze/laugh/try to have a bowel movement!

Speaking of bowel movements, my Doctor did not have me do a liquid fast 2 wks prior to surgery, only 24 hrs prior to day of. I was unable to pass gas or have a bowel movement until day 6 and that was with the help of Miralax on day 5 ( note I did take the pain med's/Lortab the first 3 days). I have no problem taking in H2O as I'm a water snob so this wasn't the issue.  FYI. Narcotics can increase constipation. I recommend the Miralax, I purchased individual dose pkg's which make it simple to take on the road/convenient. Bowel movements should return to pre surgery consistency if not discuss w/ your MD.

It was difficult to urinate ( minimal volume/stream) the 1st 3 days as well, I assume due to gas and swelling in the abd. cavity, 8 days out and the all things back to normal in that department.

No appetite, only thirst first 3 days. I started the Protein shakes my local health food store offered NutraBio 100% whey protein iso. 25 grams protein in one scoop and it tastes clean no after taste/grit. I started to notice a desire to eat on day 3. I found heating up Lipton soup mix or ckn soup from a can and straining out the solid bits extremely fulfilling. Now day 8 I want to have something of substance in my belly. I'm not sure if it's hunger or habit. I am still cooking meals for my family. I bought some ice cream last night and that made a huge difference in my attitude/energy/outlook. I've noticed many different diet recommendations throughout my research in regards to the liquid phase of the diet. My surgeon wants everything low carb, low fat, calories 700-900. That is a bit extreme for me I beleive. I've already gone back to work (day 5/modified w/ no lifting over 15 pds) and couldn't make it through the day on that limited amt of calories. I've been blending canned soups to liquid consistency the last few days, loads of yogurt, popsicles and yes protein shakes. Tonight I needed something with richer consistency so I made myself a small bowl of mashed potatoes maybe 2oz. I felt so Satisfied and afterward, the idea of another week on a Liquid diet didn't seem so disappointing/unattainable.

The most dramatic changes I've noticed to my body since having the surgery is the overall inflammation/bloating in my face/abdomen is 70% resolved, my skin is 90% clearer and I don't feel the need to take my bra off the second I put it on ( strange I know). I am thrilled with my choice to have this procedure thus far. I feel much better when I listen to my body and not just blindly follow the strict eating regimen ordered by my MD. I'm not encouraging anyone to go against your MD's recommendations but for me, listening to my body and making small adjustments is making this journey more positive/manageable.

To date I've lost 13 pds and it's only day 8 post op.

I was right there with you too. I HAD to have some carbs in those early days just to sustain my blood surgery and have enough energy to make it through a day. Congratulations! Sounds like you're doing fine.

  10. Feeling much better today. Yesterday I was very run down, so I stayed in and took a nice long nap during the day and ate an extra yogurt. Right as rain now :D Happy Friday!

Sounds like you're rested, that's great! Happy Friday!

  11. I'm going to hit my stall now. I can tell, because 1) almost everybody stalls when they start moving on to real foods, in addition to the liquids, and 2) I'm at 302 pounds, lol, and the scale knows I want to see the 2 in the first digit.

I'm fine. It's not going to freak me out or really even upset me. Honestly, I could stand the reconfiguration of inches that always comes with a stall, for me.

I'm posting here in between bites of refried beans, which (knock on wood) seem to be going pretty well for me, so far. I'm so happy. Between ricotta (with a little sauce and a little seasoning) and refried beans (with a very small amount of low-fat cheese melted in), I can live without chewable foods for a pretty long time. (I'm also eating yogurt and ricotta cheese.) I do want to upgrade to the ricotta bake, because it has better protein and might cut down the number of protein shakes I need in a day. It's probably a bit more firm than ricotta alone, so I held off at first, but I think it's time, don't you? Plus, my spouse can put it over pasta and enjoy it with me.

I'm eating 2.5 ounces of ricotta in a serving and maybe that much in beans? (this is my first attempt, but that's how much I served myself) I can eat 4 ounces of Greek yogurt in half an hour, which feels like a lot before the 2 week anniversary of my surgery. But I still haven't really figured out my body's "full" signal. I felt a little sick and stopped eating, one time, which made me think I'd overdone it. Other times, I just take tiny bites, sometimes a few minutes apart, for half an hour. And then I refrigerate or throw out what's left, because that was the guidance the nutritionists gave me. But other people talk about a sore shoulder or something as their signal, and I haven't found that yet.

I guess it'll come with time and practice.

Don't talk yourself into a stall. They're common, but not everyone has them early on. I honestly haven't had one yet. I've only had 3 "up" weeks in almost 8 months and none of them was from a stall. (One was from vacation, two were recovering from losing 13 lbs in 10 days because I was prescribed too much diuretic and ended up dehydrated in the er ☹️) You're unique, just let it go.

It is early for you to recognize a "full" signal. Pretty much all the foods you're eating right now are sliders that just pass through your pouch. Other than the refried beans, most of them won't stay long enough to trigger a "fullness" feeling. Don't worry, it will come. You're doing great!

    2. CrankyMagpie

      CrankyMagpie

If it's a stall, it's only in comparison to the ridiculous speed with which I lost during immediate pre- and post-op. I'm still down like half a pound from when I posted this. (Half a pound in four days is slow for this stage of the journey, but it's still good!)

Thanks for the reassurance! It's good to be told I'm doing well. ❤️

Yeah, we love that non-linear weight loss when we have a 4-pound week. Not so much with a 1/2-pound week. I only weigh twice a week (and only write it down on Saturday) in an attempt to keep the insecurity monster at bay 😉

  12. I ate like a normal person yesterday!!!

I was at an all-day training where they provided breakfast and lunch. Since I didn't know what they would be serving, I packed my little cooler with a protein bar, yogurt and a fruit cup. I didn't need it, woohoo! One of the breakfast options was a yogurt parfait and at the lunch buffet they had (in addition to a bunch of stuff I couldn't eat) salmon patties, a squash medley, and orzo. They had fruit cups for the afternoon snack! I was so excited to eat what other people ate! I admit, I did eat some sweets, too. But overall, what a good day!

  13. Went to the store tonight and stocked up on some items that will help me make healthy meals, so I'll actually make new things instead of relying on the old stand-bys that are getting repetitive.

    I got:

    • bag of chopped broccoli/cauliflower (currently roasting in the oven with some baby carrots)
    • two Roma tomatoes
    • Laughing Cow light Swiss
    • wonton wrappers
    • turkey pepperoni
    • 90% lean ground beef
    • Greek yogurt cream cheese
    • mozzarella cheese sticks (like string cheese, not the breaded kind)
    • Canadian bacon
    • regular bacon
    • a squeeze bottle of ginger
    • skim milk
    • EVOO
    • pizza sauce
    • a bag of clementines
    • small cans of tomato sauce and diced tomatoes
    • a can of chickpeas (to try @AshAsh1's roasted chickpeas -- I've never had chickpeas, only hummus)
    • pineapple tidbits in juice

The ham, pizza sauce, pineapple, and some shredded mozzarella we already had are in the oven with the veggies, becoming crustless Hawaiian pizzas based on this recipe: https://www.ellaclaireinspired.com/no-crust-pizza-bites/

I also plan on making these mini cheeseburger meatloaf muffins, though not tonight: http://www.hungry-girl.com/ask-hg-q-and-a/seven-healthy-protein-packed-recipes

You go girl! I can't wait to try the wonton wrappers!

Let me know how you like the roasted chick peas!

      FluffyChix

Yum!!! Pay attention to your meals and make note if any of them make you feel "snackier" or hungry sooner than normal after your last meal.

Fresh pineapple is better than canned (sugar wise - cuz of bioavailability of the sugars), and is still sugary and the wonton wrappers may make you start jonesing for illicit stuff. LOL. Feel free to ignore me! Your roasted veg and pizza bites look yummy!!! And puts thoughts in my head!! :)

  14. I am on post op day 7...... I feel like I am loosing my mind. I am trying to get my protein in and am not hungry but am getting shaky. I know I need to eat, My surgeon said I could go ahead and eat yogurt and sweet potatoes crushed up. I am down 7 lbs. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do just as your doctor says. Eat on a schedule if you aren't hungry: set amounts at set times. Your body needs fuel even if you aren't hungry.

  15. I think I am living on chicken, cheese and yogurt!

  16. I just had my yummy pureed vegatable soup with a splash of plain yogurt. Wow aren't we a bunch of cheap dates. One can of soup has lasted me 5 days. I guess on the bright side I'll save alot of money on food.

  17. i was banded going on 2 wks now i have been thorugh the ups and downs thinking i have done sumthing crazy cause it was so hard doing the diets and all but does seems to be a little better now. can u give me any advice on whats good to do to boost my weight lost i mean i really want this to work right now it seems to be at a stand still, the only thing on my list to eat right now is grits, and yogurt, and like protein drinks but im hungry on that. i will be happy next i can start on soft meats.

  18. Hey Bobbie,

How are you doing???? I am doing very well...I am still on liquids(protein shake,s/f pudding or yogurt, water, crystal light)....I am going to try to last on this for at least a week after surgery, longer if possible....

  19. OMG nibbling is NOT allowed. I have had a few days of being over full from just a nibble of something not soft enough!!!!! I have been struggling to say the least. I was thinking Oh I can do this LB thing and NO I can not!!!! I have only eaten yogurt and smoothies for two days. The fill did not kick in until 3 or 4 days later and when it did every time I open my mouth I insert my foot out my throat sorry that sounds funny but I am so sick. I feel like I have a cynder block in my chest. NOT at all good. I usually takes about 4 hours to pass.

Enough about me how are you doing? Thanks for asking I appreciate the friendship that's for sure. kathy imaluckydog in pain at the moment

  20. That's awesome. I know I was excited when I got my date for the surgery. They are doing it differently now though because I knew mine after my first appointment with Dr. Lutfi. Erin will have you go on a 2 week liquid diet pre op. I did the slim fast low carb and lost 20 pounds. I bought a case of 15 from Sam's club for about $20. Then after surgery I bought the sugar free jellos and sugar free popsicles. I had broth too. You will be on clear liquids the first 2 weeks then full liquids. On the full liquids I had the slim fast and the 80 calorie yogurt , jello, sugar free pudding. I even made egg white scrambled and added a slice of fat free cheese. Just wanted to give you an idea of what to look forward to post op. I got my staples out a week after surgery and was told I could exercise again. I walk and go to the YMCA. My seminar was Feb 17, my consultation was in March, that day I got my surgery date of May 18 so yeah you are close. I am excited for you.

  21. hey lady! I've been doing pretty good. Really didn't start feeling normal til 7 days post op. Yesterday and today I am pretty darn good! I've lost 12lbs post op....that was in 7 days while I was on broth and jello...now I have to eat stuff like sherbert, yogurt, pudding and creamy soups and have not lost anything. All the foods I am eating go right through I feel no restriction at all. I am going to go on my tredmill today for like 15 minutes just to see how I am feeling. Do you know when your first fill is? Mine is July 21st.

  22. Well thanks for the add! Great job on your weight loss! I'd say 30lbs in a month is something to be proud of! Mine is really not as bad as others I have spoken with. 2 meals are protein shakes which I adore! My fave is one I invented chocolate-cherry-banana YUM! The 3rd meal is soup, snacks I can have sf/ff yogurt, pudding, or jello. And the fact that I dropped 8 in 6 days, shoot I must be doing something right : )

I took my son for a walk before we ran errands earlier. It was only about 20 min. but hey i was walking as fast as my fat butt would let me and pushing his 26 lbs in his car, lol. Well I have already had a c-section so I don't figure this pain to be near that. My goal is 145 or a little lower and I am only almost 5'3". So I am really going to try to push being stricter on this last week. I go get bloodwork done on friday. How long would you say I would have to go without picking up my 18 month old?

    HUGS, Starla

  23. I am great on yogurt. I can finish a small 4 oz with no problems. I am soo bored with the same foods. I cant wait to eat some refried beans. what are you eating today?

  24. heyyy yea im actually back to normal now, just sore if i touch the incision. I havent weighed my self yet because i want to wait till i go see my surgeon on friday :) omg the liquids was horrible the first week, im happy i can have yogurt and i feel in love with greek yogurt soo ive been doing that for breakfast and lunch yesterday and today, it has a lot of protein so i figure its okay. Anyway sorry to ramble on, how is the banded life going? when were u banded?

  25. Hi xavier, I have had three fills the first one was five weeks after my surgery. I kept eating the way we do slow any steady and on the fourth day after my first fill I was so tight I only ate about 2 tablespoons full of food at each meal. Then I could not eat any more. I always ate the protein first and sometimes that is all I could eat. I eat a lot of greek yogurt and eggplant with meat sauce. If you want I can give you the recipe for the Wendy's Chili. I eat that all the time. I usually put grated cheese and or sour cream on it as well. Tastes great and is easy on my band.
