So I went in for my 5th fill. I got .75cc fill. Felt fine but by that night couldn't even swallow my own spit. I went in the next day and had a .25cc defill. Felt fine and then a few days later the band tightened again had to go back in and have another .25cc defill. Now I am at 8.75cc in a 10cc band and feel great. I think I am at my sweet spot for now. Altogether - I am down 55 pounds as of this morning. What a wonderful feeling. Even though being overfilled was very uncomfortable - to get to the spot where I am at is great. I can hardly wait until summer - going to the beach is going to be a totally different experience than in the past. Before people looked at me like I was a beached whale. This summer I am going to feel awesome and totally enjoy the water with my boys. Thank you Slimband - I Love My Band.

I am a 34 year old working mom. I have 2 kids that are 6 and 7 (grade 1 and 2). I work with family. I have been struggling with my weight my whole life. I was always the cubby kids. I have done various things throu out my weight loss fight. I even resorted to taking laxatives for a year, which inturn caused me to have IBS and a spastic large bowl. I did loose 40 lbs,, but gained that back and more.
I want to be able to look in the mirror at myself, and feel good about what I see instead of getting totally disgusted. I have never liked what I saw.
I have been researching the slimband/lapband for a few years. I am sure this is the procedure for me. I just have to convience someone (my other half) which has never had a fat day in his slim life. He doesn't think it should be the difficult to loose weight. ..... ohhh to have that his problem having to worry.

Ontario... I can work with that. The biggest clinic in Ontario is the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga and it has a very good reputation. It's probably your best bet because of its size. LAP-BAND®® Surgery Clinic | Weight Loss & Gastric Balloon in Toronto, Canada I go to CIBO in Toronto. Overall I give it a meh. I am not terribly disappointed but I'm not stunningly thrilled. LAP-BAND® Surgery Weight Loss Surgery Clinic Toronto | CIBO There are two other clinics in Toronto. Nobody I know has gone to the Yorkville one downtown and I haven't heard anything good about Slimband. Laparoscopic Band Surgery – (Gastric Band – Slimband) Again though, if you're just looking for fills you may have different priorities. -

So I'm gathering that it's about a 2-year wait. I can tell you that I am not going to wait that long. Provided we sell our house this spring, I'll be using the profit to have it done in Toronto. I had a phone consulation with Niki from Slimband. It's $16000, or $3000 down and payments of $350 a month for 4 years. The doctor there has done more lap band procedures than all docs combined in Canada. The saline fills can be done by your family doctor, if they are willing, or by other local doctors. My family doctor mentioned someone in F'ton and Slimband said they had someone in Sackville who does the fill. So, you only have to go to Toronto for the procedure. They also have a big support team that you have access to for life. -
Wow, you went all the way to S.Korea???? Where are you going to get your after care??? I was banded by SLIMBAND ( aka Toronto LapBand Centre) in July 07. I paid $16k self pay. THey do all my followups for life. Great surgeon.

Sick and my band is too tight, agh!
Living My Dream commented on Living My Dream's blog entry in lwood's Journal
Well I have just experienced bandster hell of another kind. I have been sick with a very sore throat and tired then my band tightened so much I was throwing up in my sleep. Horrible. I tried to just ride it out. I tried to eat softer foods and stop eating a couple of hours before bed. Oh, well, I feel better today. I had chills, aches and headache plus a sick, acidy stomach yesterday. The good news is that I have lost a couple more pounds. I am at 162 lbs this morning. I can't believe it. I am sooooo happy. I am aiming for size 12 or 150, not sure which. I'll see when it happens. I never thought I would ever get down to size 14 again and now it's getting loose. I have been buying new clothes and I am thinking about the shame of it when they don't fit and I will have hardly worn them. Oh well, I'll deal with it when it happens. I can actually buy size medium off the rack now and it fits. I am thrilled. Back to my band, I was thinking that my band must have slipped and I was going to call Slimband clinic this morning. My fill nurse, Nancy, told me that the band tightens when you are sick. I believe it. I feel better today and have had a piece of toast and a yogurt so I am fine. Thank goodness. So if I aim for 150 lbs, I have only 12 lbs left to lose. In 2 decades of dieting off and on, I never got to goal on any program before I started gaining again. Life is good! -

Please keep our group informed. I would think providing fills for other clinics/surgeons would be profitable. I hope Slimband (TLBC) is one of them.

I was banded in Toronto at the SLIMBAND clinic When might you be back in Canada

Hello everyone. I was hoping someone could help me figure out if there is some sort of warranty (for lack of a better term) on the LapBand, and any surgery required to fix any complications should they arise? More specifically, are subsequent surgeries for removal of the band, replacement of a defective band, adjustment of a slipped or erroded band, fixing a flipped port etc etc...included in the orginal price of having the surgery, and if so for how long? 2yrs? 5yrs? Longer? Has anyone gotten this in writing before their surgery? I'm guessing they cover you for a year or two at least (I hope) but anyone know if it can be longer than that? Does it depend on what clinic you go to? Has anyone heard of an option to buy extended warranty? (It sounds like i'm shopping for a car, but you know what I mean) In particular, I would like to hear from those of you who have been banded or are planning to be banded at either SWLC, CIBO, TLBC (now called SlimBand), or SpaDiva with Dr, Miller (as I am likely to have it done at one of those clinics). The reason I ask is that the surgery is not cheap as most of you know, and despite the fact that most complications are rare, they do happen (and I dont just mean during surgery or within a year of the surgery, but also 5-10yrs down the road when a band can erode or slip or break etc etc...). So I guess I was just wondering up to what point does the initial cost of the surgery cover all those things? It would be difficult to pay 16-18K for the surgery only to have to spend the same amount again in 3 to 5yrs should something go wrong etc. Sorry for all the questions. I searched the forum for this topic but I havent seen any posts on this issue in particular. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had TLBC (now slimband) and know Dr. Yau is excellent. He is well respected. There is another clinic opened in Vancouver, the False Creek Clinic that is affiliated with the Winnipeg Clinic. Their nurse attends our support group at the Lions Gate Hospital every 3rd Wednesday. Everyone welcome (had to get that in).Its free. There is a Dr. Leung and a Dr. R. Woodhead who have are well received by their patients. I also had the need for a fluro and went down to Maryville just outside Seattle to the Northwest Fills and found the two nurses excellent. They now travel to Bellingham to do fills and/or fluros. Hope these suggestions will help.

Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On

The fills/defills are the most important. There is a CD Slimband gives to family doctors. Some like it others don't. I do know there is a NWT bandster and if you post you will probably find him. He would be great for support. Also, Slimband has their own website where you can get long distance advice on nutrition, fills, exercise, etc. I am long distance and find this new site not too bad. As for complications, any surgery can have that. Postings are usually telling the worst case or the best. Most people are in between. I had a twisted port and it was corrected by Dr. Yau with no problem. Just the cost of going back to Toronto. The port for me has been no problem. I can feel it and sometimes when I sit slouched over, it pinches but for the most part I never know it is there. I wish you well in your journey and if you follow the rules as set down by Dr. Yau, more than likely you will have no problem. BUT, YOU STILL HAVE TO WORK AT HOW YOU LOOSE WEIGHT. It is tough work but the band keeps you steady when you break down and give in to temptations. I did not get a contract and I trust Dr. Yau's reputation will ensure I am covered but I have to admit a contract is a great way of knowing precisely what you are covered for. Shouldn't be any problem asking for some sort of information in writing as to coverage. -

I went to get a fill this week at the Slimband Clinic and I was told that from now on no one will be told how many cc's is being put into their band to prevent people from being overly 'obsessed' with their band. Does that make sense to you??? Are we not paying customers and deserve the right to know??? -
There's no fill Dr's in Barrie, but Slimband is doing Markham fills now, I find that much easier :frown:

New to Toronto!!!Need a fill!!!
so done with it all replied to kintime's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We don't have fill centres in Canada like you do in the States. You could contact some of the clinics that do bands in Toronto and see if they will take you on as a patient but it might be costly. They won't just do 1 fill like the fill centres do, they sell you a whole package usually if they will even take you on. There is TLBC/Slimband, SWLC, CIBO and one at Humber River Hospital. It's worth a call to find out what they could do for you if anything. -

woo hoo! finally got time to come back on and see everyone who I have missed chatting with. Things are going well here and my weight is now going down again after a looooong plateau. I ended up adopting another dog to help make me get out for more walks. I am so pleased with Slimband and there efforts to find a closer fill doctor in the area which they have just announced they got one in Sudbury. I met with him and seen Belina and Nancy and got another fill yesterday. Whats going on with the rest of you ladies these days? Is everyone having a good summer? Whats been your challenges this summer? -

Any good experiences at Surgical Weight Loss Centre
Alex R. replied to cowpoke lucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've only ever heard good things about SWLC. It is an excellent clinic. But don't dismiss TLBC/Slimband just yet. Do have a visit. Most people are inclined to post when they have problems and are looking for advice. If all is well, you won't likely hear from them. There are many of us here who have have very positive experiences at TLBC. -
Thanks for clarifying Doreen, this is good info for bandsters. When I looked I couldn't find anything about banding on websites that refered to him....altho maybe the TLBC (Slimband) site mentions him. Patricia

Patricia: This doctor has been used by TLBC (Slimband) from the Toronto Lapband Clinic (now Slimband) for their patients in BC. He does fills for their patients. I know of one lady who goes to him and thinks he is very caring. Payment up front of course. Slimband patients go through the clinic fill nurse in Toronto for appointments. I understand they pay up front too and get reimbursed later if their contract calls for free fills. Also, I was told that this Dr. has been trained by Slimband in fills.
