Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
Stacy714 replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I understand the fear. I was exploring Bariatric surgery at the suggestion of my electrophysiologist (who I love and trust — I have persistent AFIB). I met with an obesity specialist (not a surgeon) and decided I wanted to work with him during the surgery exploration/approval process to try and lose some weight beforehand. I learned from him that obesity is a disease (often inherited, up to 70%), and that it’s not our fault; it’s our biology. Learning this blew my mind. My Dr suggested I try Ozempic. I was reluctant at first bc I’m not a fan of taking medications in general unless absolutely necessarily. Ozempic was life-changing. It turned off the 24/7 hunger switch in my brain. For the first time in my life I have control over food. I feel “normal” and free. I’ve lost 75 lbs since Jan 1, 2021 (without suffering). I have another 75 lbs to lose. I’m confident I’ll lose it. I’m also working with my obesity Dr and a dietitian to learn how to permanently lead a healthier life. I love and trust my obesity Dr — I feel like he is literally saving my life. The medication is a tool just like surgery is a tool. For me, I no longer think I need the surgery. Some people need both the surgery and medication; everyone’s biology is different. But it’s good to know there are other options besides surgery for treating obesity’s dysregulated biology. I’d highly recommend seeing an obesity specialist and exploring medication options. I should add that I’m now taking Wegovy (1.7 mg) which is a higher dose version of Ozempic that was recently approved by the FDA specifically for treating obesity. I wish you all the best. 🤍 -

I do know it makes you become higher risk as a bariatric patient bc I was told 2 years. I would say talk to you obgyn, Nutritionist and surgeon bc the hardest thing to do is have the baby get their nutrients. Good Luck! -
Pre-Op Diet Encouragement, please. : )
LadyH replied to LouLouM's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Reading all the cases of fatigue and exhaustion worry me. Having to quarantine 2 weeks before, 2 weeks after, getting only protein shakes and clear liquids only for the 2 weeks of pre-surg. diet, not being able to go workout at the gym, or swim, or be outside because the weather is terrible. No holidays with family--second year in a row--and having been waiting for 6 months since being cleared for surgery has already depressed me. I don't think I can take months of feeling horrible and exhausted afterward. I feel like I've already lost a year of my life because of all the unnecessary and even bogus bs. The program I'm in throws in everything but the kitchen sink, charges from the patient obscenely for it, and leaves the patient twisting in the wind unendingly. ugh. -
I started mine a week early and it helped so much. I think it helped mentally bc I was making the choice and not being “told”. It also allowed me to get used to the plan and changes prior to actually having to commit so it wasn’t so overwhelming. It made the transition after surgery so much easier bc I wasn’t going through carb or sugar withdrawal immediately after surgery. The risk is that starting early could make you mentally think you can stop and start over and over since you actually don’t have to do it and once the actual pre op starts there’s no turning back if your already so over it after the early week. Totally doable and worth it in my opinion and it worked awesome for me. Commit and stick to it… it’s just temporary!

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
LadyH replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Be very intentional with the cardiac clearance. My nightmares started with that. I was sent for cardiac ""clearance", but ended up with a PA who decided to go full diagnostic despite my having no symptoms. First, she said I was probably lying that I didn't have any symptoms. She gave me 2 MISdiagnoses and put me on a drug that would've killed me had I kept taking it. She required I undergo a test that almost killed me, then demanded I get an angiogram. She refused to allow me to see an actual certified cardiologist. No cardiologist ever examined me. Then, this PA completely reversed herself 180 degrees, said I was ok to have surgery after all. This PA also failed to get the proper info to insurance/billing so I could even get an estimate for all this BS for over 4 weeks! Her completely incompetent handling of everything from the paperwork to the tests to the misdiagnoses cost me over 4 months of time and agonizing stress, thinking I was dying of heart disease. I also have snapshots of the monitors from the tests and the data from the test, and the actual numbers is not what this PA wrote up in her reports to justify all her crazy ideas. She changed my data to fit her narrative and plan for more and more expensive tests/procedures. Thank God my GP ended up getting me in to see a real doctor/cardiologist--this took an additional 6 weeks--and the only way to completely negate all the erroneous hunches and bogus guesses the PA had loaded onto my chart was to have an angiogram that proved the PA had been wrong about everything. She literally risked my life 3 separate times and caused harm. My cardiologist said to me twice that the PA "...screwed you, she really screwed you." But of course, me, my husband and our insurance still have to pay for the over $35K in bogus tests/appointments/procedures despite them being completely unnecessary and dangerous. It is scary that we have no control over who is calling the shots and how much of our "program" is just to bring in extra dollars for the hospital. -
I'm struggling
Babin.jessica1993 replied to Babin.jessica1993's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah my surgeon was a d**k. No IV PAIN MEDS AT ALL. Even when I kept puking post op. They wouldn't give me iv pheblnergan for naseau, they almost gave me a med I was allergic too, its a good thing I was curious and the nurses excuse was sorry it was at the bottom of the list. Like Wtf ?. Now I'm just trying to get my fluids in 😭😭🤦♀️🤦♀️ if there is any complications there is 1 other hospital near me where the surgery is done and I'll go there instead. F*** that. And to be fair I don't like this hospital either bc they've also tried to give me meds that I'm allergic to and sent me home with a gallbladder issue that was taken out 2 days after that visit 🙃 so that says alot -
Since surgery in June 2021 I have taken 2 Bariatric fusion multi vitamin chewable and 1 Bariatric fusion calcium daily. I recently had to add in a chewable fusion iron 2x a week bc my iron is low. Glad you mentioned the biotin isn’t working bc I’m losing fair and was gonna order it next.

My surgery experience has sucked so bad. No IV pain meds. Exhausted, and now home day 4. Surgery was Monday. I tried calling my doc about my vitamins and he pretty much blew me off. I had such a negative experience that I will not be returning to him If I have any issues, ill go to the other hospital that does these surgeries. My DOCS A pos. I'm also having trouble why are we drinking broth. Is it because it helps towards out water intake on top of our shakes. Bc it holds no protein. Anyone tell me if these vitamins are correct Sent from my SM-F926U using BariatricPal mobile app

I was actually a food writer for about a decade... you don't write about food without eating in restaurants all the time, which is part of how I ended up two french fries short of 400 lbs. I had the same concerns. But here's the thing—I don't actually miss it. As corny and BS as this sounds, a taste is enough. My mother-in-law made a pie. I had two small bites. It was enough. I catered pizza to my daughter's school; I had a few bites. And if I do overindulge on something, the restriction kicks in right away, and reminds me why we don't overindulge on everything. I do find myself suggesting more active things ("let's go have a bonfire at the beach", "let's go hike through the nature preserve", etc.) rather than just defaulting to a meal with people. And if I do go to a celebratory meal, I just... don't eat much.

Hi everyone ! Just so happy bc I’m in ONEderland! Yay! I’m so grateful that I was approved for this surgery. I had posted my date was 10/19, since then I lost 31 lbs. No regrets, should have done this sooner! Only new challenge is learning to eat verrrry slowly since I started soft foods. Love this site, I’ve learned so much from you all! 😊

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Cookie.Monster replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I started puréed at the one week mark. So many doctors require different things. I followed my friends plan (i was allowed to start puréed on week 2 for me). I lost so much weight (not healthily) bc I couldn’t drink anything anymore I wanted to chew so I preferred not to eat and was starving. Nothing has felt bad so that’s good. I was on yogurt and stuff when I got home from hospital. My follow up is tomorrow so hopefully all is well. listen to your body. If something feels like it’s not setting then remove it and try again at another time. -
December 2021 Friends?
bslp0033 replied to EllieV's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Me! I’m having surgery Dec 3 in Atlanta. I had lapband in 2010, lost 90 lbs. It slipped and almost killed me in 2014. Had revision to VSG in 2014 and now revision to bypass bc of severe GERD. Have Grade D esophagitis and been on protonix for years. Can’t wait to not have GERD anymore. Have gained about 10 lbs since 2014 and my weight right now is 154. Hoping to get down to 130’s. We will see if that happens! -
Post op Day 7 last night I had the gas pains up in my collar bone area, mostly felt upon inhalation while laying down. It was sharp and annoying. today I am in a mood about having this. I. AM. CUSSING. HUNGRY. not “head hunger”, eye roll, real legit, stomaching eating itself hungry. I want to eat anything and everything and annoyed that I can’t! many times throughout the day I have thought “WTF did i do?” I chose this. I paid for this out of pocket. I’m hoping this feeling is normal at this point and temporary. i did normal household things today, without any trouble. I’m still guarding my belly button incision and careful not to lift anything over 10 pounds. I felt tired a lot and spacey. But also totally normal at times. I drank my water, about 48 oz no problem. no protein shakes or waters bc I just can’t. I am changing my vitamin because it’s so gross, so just to have SOMETHING I took a few of flinstones vitamins. apparently I can’t take capsules for 30 days, which there went my plan For the barislims. anyways. I just want to eat. Totally second guessing why I did this. I just feel stupid.

Revision from sleeve to bypass
kymmiej11 replied to lions92's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi I’m a sleeve➡️bypass I’m almost 3 weeks out, I wasn’t the model patient but I have to say 💯 that this surgery was so much easier than the first, I have tolerated everything so far very well (almost too well it worried me bc I had almost no constriction) feeling hopeful! My post-op appointment is on 11/9/21. The weight loss has Been much slower then when I had the sleeve, but again, feeling hopeful! Has anyone heard that with this conversation, you lose weight much slower, then it all falls off? Thank you in advance! -
New Here in Pre-op process - Anxiety & PCOS
Summermoose replied to Denali717's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have generalised anxiety disorder, but it’s no longer severe (not bc of surgery). I got to a place where I only saw my psychologist every couple of months for ‘routine maintenance’, but started seeing her more regularly before my surgery and now see her every three weeks po just to sort through all these feelings. I would really recommend working with a professional for support, ideally if possible someone who you already know and trust. Having someone who you can tell your deepest and darkest thoughts and fears to has lightened my load immensely po. The first week I was too tired to be anxious, but the two weeks after were a little rough. I have always self soothed with food and even though I prepared myself as much as possible beforehand, the reality of that comfort being taken away was difficult. I think I felt more gloomy and sorry for myself than anxious though.. although I do now struggle with some anxiety related to the weight loss (since +- 5 weeks po), but I really don’t think that’s because of any hormones (more me not believing in myself, which leads to a lot of my anxiety in the first place). I’m now 9 weeks po so I couldn’t tell you how it changes when weight loss slows down. Good luck with everything! 😄🌸 -
So all my life I have had period issues. When I was a teen and into my early 20's I was on birth control pills to give me more normal and regular periods. Was also told that it would help my PCOS, Endometriosis and Adenomyosis . My GYN really wanted me to get a hysterectomy saying that was really the only thing that would cure that stuff but I wasn't ready. I was also young and not sure if I wanted another kid or not. So I didn't get it and stuck to the pills. And the BC pills worked for a while. Until about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with high BP. Then the doc took me off of them. I was back to square one with the monster migraines, heavy, clotty periods, the periods coming whenever they felt and staying as long as they wanted sometimes lasting like 14 days at a time, etc. Right around the time I was diagnosed with high BP and taken off, I was also diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. So my endocrinologist put me on Metformin and said that would help the IR and PCOS/Endometriosis/Adenomyosis issues and help me becomes regular again without BC pills. And it did!! I would get my period like clockwork within a few days time (usually every 28-33 days). And it usually only lasted like 4 days. So I get the sleeve surgery and was told that my periods could be irregular to start. It was kinda heavy the first few times after surgery and lasted a lil longer than normal but nothing nuts. One of my main goals for getting surgery was to get off of my medication or at least have it cut down. Well on September 13th I had my Metformin cut in half by my regular doc! Needles to say I was very happy! However I now think it's the reason my period is 47 days into my cycle today, 16 days late!! Like I said, I had gone to the doc Sept 13th and got my last period on Sept 17th. I've yet to have one since!! I swear weeks ago I felt like I was gonna get it. I had the aches, the tenderness down there and in my breasts, etc. so I'm not sure why it hasn't come. Has anyone experienced this? I do believe it's due to the Metformin being cut in half. Otherwise it would be very coincidental it was anything else like me going through the change/menopause suddenly when I've had no other signs or symptoms thus far. Has anyone gone through something similar? And no, no chance of being pregnant. Hubby was fixed years ago. Don't really wanna have to go on the pill again just to be regular. And especially not now since my BP meds have also been cut down and I'm doing great BP-wise.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shrinkingvee replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are spot on with what you say, I’m 3 weeks post op and it’s been the toughest journey I’ve ever walked and I’ve been up and down throughout these 3 weeks. it’s not easy. I know it will get easier but I’ve been down every other day as apparently with fat loss your estrogen levels rise and that causes feeling down so that sucks. Im still finding it hard to get my fluid intake in and in turn now today have a migraine probably due to dehydration. im eating soft food and cracker crisp bread with a little cheese or chicken with avocado or yeast extract. Ive gone off eggs, that’s a shame. my sense of smell and taste seems so different, I don’t know if anyone else’s has changed? I’ve lost a total of 17lbs since my op and lost 16 with pre op diet. I feel like it’s slow this week like a quarter of a pound but I’ve been told there is a 3 week stall. I’m really fed up with the down days. Ive not gone back to work yet. Took another week off. Im really struggling today. I’m sorry to be so negative but when I read your insert and though you are so right, people need to know complications can arise as issues and to know you will need support. -
Mother Nature Strikes Again
pintsizedmallrat replied to Bariatric_Babe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have PCOS and endometriosis. The two BC methods that have worked the best for me were a Mirena IUD and the "four-times-a-year" birth control pills like Seasonique. If you don't plan on getting pregnant for 5 years, once inserted, the Mirena is really a breeze to live with--my periods completely stopped about 2 months after insertion and I didn't get another one until it was removed. -

Wear a dress to go home in. The pressure of pants, even loose pants bc of the waistband. I would recommend bringing earplugs and an eye mask. You might not be in a private room. I forgot these bc I was spoiled from my previous surgery. -
My preop diet starts on the 3rd of November for 3 weeks. I have given it lots of thought while I waited. I am allowed veg, milk and yogurt. My go to, will be Thai soups and salads. I have bought in lots of water noodles as they are only 4 cals a packet. I like them better than courgetti. They do fill you up. When I get fed up of those I will have soups - carrot and coriander, mushroom and onion are favourite's . Then there is vegetable curries with cauliflower rice. I have had a lot of time on these pages and will use all the knowledge I have picked up. Onwards and downwards

Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hey all! I’m three weeks post op today from bypass. I’ve been very lucky with easily getting down the required liquids and my small blended meals. I’m suddenly struggling with food obsession again. I was okay the first while bc I knew I couldn’t, but now I’m trying actual food and really want the “bad” food. I want pizza and creamy pastas and the chocolate. I’ve held off so far, but have been creeping over the calories. It doesn’t help that I’m not losing much weight. “Only” 5 lbs in the last two weeks. I think the amount of free time isn’t helping. I’m still off work and most of my friends/family are busy this time of year. Any suggestions? -

It's my own fault though. Sent from my SM-G981U using BariatricPal mobile app
