  1. Hi, good luck on this journey! I removed feeling the same way at that point in recovery. It’s a very scary feeling! No one can really understand the process we go through and the feelings we have unless they have been through it bc it is so unique! I hated the full liquid stage bc it made me feel worse but once I transitioned to soft food that gas feeling went away, I hope its that same for you! I’m 6 months now and couldn’t be happier. Good luck!! Oh and I love emoji’s lol… we need a weight loss surgery emoji but for now ….. 🤢🤪🤞 lol!

    A little positivity

Sounds like your surgery is working just as it should and your adapting to the new lifestyle. If I feel like I’m getting hungry in between I drink water or a protein shake, eat a piece of cheese or lunch meat bc any of that will fill me up quickly again. Good to hear your doing well!

    Home from surgery

Welcome to the other side of this crazy adventure of life! The first 3 weeks can be challenging bc of all the new things to learn, but around week three it seems like alot of us have that realization that this could work lol! Good luck!!
  4. I went vegan - raw vegan - this year and lost a great amount of weight but wanted to be as full of vitamins and nutrition as possible before surgery. I think I might get some spinach and berries and do a green smoothie. My labs look great - just saw my endocrinologist Monday. My BS is 112 - I was awitched off all my meds to just metformjn and sugars have gone up but very slightly. She said my body is responding so well to the liquid diet that she is stopping all meds before surgery and doesn’t think I’ll need them again after that. I follow up January 10th with her. I tried vegi broth and chicken broth which was terrible. Finally got some low sodium v8 juice that should help. 14 day count down to surgery now! I’ve made it this far I’ve got this!!! 😀
  5. My sympathies are with you. I'm not political about the vaccine in that I don't care who does or doesn't get it, but if someone else's poor choices means I'm denied my own care, then there's a problem. Government says everyone needs a vaccine, yet continues to put the unvaccinated ahead of those who have complied. I have already spent so much time and money on arbitrary program bs, and to think that this paying patient, who has waited a year already is put on hold even longer is just maddening. If this runs into next year, not only will I have to pay all costs all over again, but you know the doctors will say I need to have those tests and procedures done all over again because they're a year old and expired now, which is just more bs. I'm starting to think the whole process is a racket. Plus, I'll be another year older, so my labs will be another year less stellar, and all of that is more excuse for them to do even more tests, delay even longer, and further take advantage of my time and money. They told me I'm supposed to start meds on Sunday, but I likely won't even know by then whether or not surgery is certain. I'm not going to take more risks putting drugs into my system if there's not even going to be any surgery. I don't even get my pre-op class until Friday. This is so messed up.
  6. I think I had to take a PPI for a very short period post op. I think I really noticed the difference once that stopped and I was about 2 months post op because I settled into more normal food choices bs immediate post op diet. I hope you find relief soon ❤️
  7. I was supposed to have my surgery last summer, but an incompetent PA in another department saddled me with 2 misdiagnoses, and as a result also put me on a drug that would’ve killed me. It took over 3 months to undo the mess she created and have a real doctor get everything cleared up. But, of course, all those wrong tests, wrong diagnoses, etc. fed tens of thousands of more dollars into that hospital system. Pure corruption, and put the patient in danger.

    Irregular period

After surgery my periods were normal for a couple of months then I went on the Depo-provera shot BC and that was the worst decision I have ever made. I have pretty much been bleeding non-stop since March 2021. There have been about two months recently when it would stop for 3-4 weeks which I assume means it's going back to normal but then when the period comes it lasts for 3 weeks minimum. It was at least like spotting level but this last one has been full out heavy the whole time. Doctor has checked everything, hormone levels, everything and it's all fine. Everything healthy just obviously a low iron level. I started taking a different iron supplement and it seemed to help for a while but I am at a loss. I've heard it can take a year for your body to recover from the Depo shot and that on top of the weightless I imagine my body is panicking. I would just sincerely love for it to go back to normal. This one I'm on right now has been brutal, full on symptoms and just no respite.

    Sucker

I struggled with giving things like that up as well. I ate sugar free jolly ranchers or other sugar free hard candy during the pre op and early post op. I’m 6months post op and if I really need something to suck on occasionally I have a sugar free cough drop. Just be carful with the sugar free candy bc some has a lot of calories per piece.

    This surgery is bullshit...

If you read through the thread, it HAS been stated that the OP was not a good candidate and shouldn't have been approved for the surgery if s/he was not willing to work at adopting the habits that lead to success. We're not focusing on that point because it's not helpful now. What's done is done. As I said in an earlier post, if the OP just wants to vent and isn't really interested in advice, then all we can say is "I'm sorry you're having a hard time." But the OP isn't even 6 months out from surgery, so it's much too early to say the surgery has failed unless the OP is unwilling to make changes. People on BariatricPal are disposed to help, so when someone posts "I don't know what to do", we will jump in and try to help with analysis and advice. From the OP's reaction to that advice, it's become clear that this thread was just intended to vent the OP's frustration and anger. Those feelings are valid, but we can't really help with them except to say that it would be a good idea to seek therapy. Beyond that, almost no one on BariatricPal is going to say "Yes, you're right, the surgery is BS." because too many of us have had it change our lives for the better. So if that's the only thing you and the OP would consider to be supportive, you're both likely to be disappointed. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Awful smelling stool and gas

I haven’t really had any shakes for many years; the exception being this summer when I had to have a few. Then I went back to what I used my first 2 years which was chocolate Muscle Milk. I liked it bc it was premade and came in small bottles. I don’t think it had sugar alcohols but I’m not 100% sure.
  12. I have my final psych appt in 2 weeks. After, I’ll be set to have a first meeting with my surgeon. I did some research on her and she’s relatively new - she’s been practicing for 6 years. Another thing, she has very few ratings. Two of three of them are poor, one was excellent, and they were all from this year. Bad reviews spoke of complications, her bedside manner is awful, the positive spoke highly of her patience and listening. The funny thing? She was a lead researcher in how patient ratings predict outcomes. So I’m nervous now. One of her colleagues has about 50 reviews that are largely positive and she was what originally drew me to that clinic, an hour away. She’s also had bariatric surgery herself. Prior to meeting the surgeon and submitting to insurance would be the best time to make a switch. I originally got this surgeon bc I had a recent endoscopy and that’s all this surgeon required and the other surgeons required more. I feel like I should give her a chance but that review about having complications bc she was careless has me frazzled. I know any surgery can have them but my mom and I are already nervous enough.

    Awful smelling stool and gas

What are you eating? Simple carbs? They tend to make stool and gas smell much worse. I use this for the bathroom. It's great. I carry a spray vial of perfume in my back pants pocket to spray my butt, so if I have gas the smell doesn't linger in my pants. But I almost never have it in public bc I don't eat simple carbs during the day as I don't eat them till I get home. If your family doesn't like the smell, I hope they knew what they were signing up for. TDS 2005

    Going in tomorrow!!!

Sounds like your in the right mindset lol! I remember feeling the same way! About an hour after waking up I was like what did you do… then it’s like ok this is done, let’s do this! Just keep thinking of all the great things your looking forward to being able to do bc you will be doing them soon! Wishing you the best and much success!
  15. I understand the fear. I was exploring Bariatric surgery at the suggestion of my electrophysiologist (who I love and trust — I have persistent AFIB). I met with an obesity specialist (not a surgeon) and decided I wanted to work with him during the surgery exploration/approval process to try and lose some weight beforehand. I learned from him that obesity is a disease (often inherited, up to 70%), and that it’s not our fault; it’s our biology. Learning this blew my mind. My Dr suggested I try Ozempic. I was reluctant at first bc I’m not a fan of taking medications in general unless absolutely necessarily. Ozempic was life-changing. It turned off the 24/7 hunger switch in my brain. For the first time in my life I have control over food. I feel “normal” and free. I’ve lost 75 lbs since Jan 1, 2021 (without suffering). I have another 75 lbs to lose. I’m confident I’ll lose it. I’m also working with my obesity Dr and a dietitian to learn how to permanently lead a healthier life. I love and trust my obesity Dr — I feel like he is literally saving my life. The medication is a tool just like surgery is a tool. For me, I no longer think I need the surgery. Some people need both the surgery and medication; everyone’s biology is different. But it’s good to know there are other options besides surgery for treating obesity’s dysregulated biology. I’d highly recommend seeing an obesity specialist and exploring medication options. I should add that I’m now taking Wegovy (1.7 mg) which is a higher dose version of Ozempic that was recently approved by the FDA specifically for treating obesity. I wish you all the best. 🤍
  16. I do know it makes you become higher risk as a bariatric patient bc I was told 2 years. I would say talk to you obgyn, Nutritionist and surgeon bc the hardest thing to do is have the baby get their nutrients. Good Luck!
  17. Reading all the cases of fatigue and exhaustion worry me. Having to quarantine 2 weeks before, 2 weeks after, getting only protein shakes and clear liquids only for the 2 weeks of pre-surg. diet, not being able to go workout at the gym, or swim, or be outside because the weather is terrible. No holidays with family--second year in a row--and having been waiting for 6 months since being cleared for surgery has already depressed me. I don't think I can take months of feeling horrible and exhausted afterward. I feel like I've already lost a year of my life because of all the unnecessary and even bogus bs. The program I'm in throws in everything but the kitchen sink, charges from the patient obscenely for it, and leaves the patient twisting in the wind unendingly. ugh.

    Start Pre-Op Diet Early?

I started mine a week early and it helped so much. I think it helped mentally bc I was making the choice and not being “told”. It also allowed me to get used to the plan and changes prior to actually having to commit so it wasn’t so overwhelming. It made the transition after surgery so much easier bc I wasn’t going through carb or sugar withdrawal immediately after surgery. The risk is that starting early could make you mentally think you can stop and start over and over since  you actually don’t have to do it and once the actual pre op starts there’s no turning back if your already so over it after the early week. Totally doable and worth it in my opinion and it worked awesome for me. Commit and stick to it… it’s just temporary!
  19. Be very intentional with the cardiac clearance. My nightmares started with that. I was sent for cardiac ""clearance", but ended up with a PA who decided to go full diagnostic despite my having no symptoms. First, she said I was probably lying that I didn't have any symptoms. She gave me 2 MISdiagnoses and put me on a drug that would've killed me had I kept taking it. She required I undergo a test that almost killed me, then demanded I get an angiogram. She refused to allow me to see an actual certified cardiologist. No cardiologist ever examined me. Then, this PA completely reversed herself 180 degrees, said I was ok to have surgery after all. This PA also failed to get the proper info to insurance/billing so I could even get an estimate for all this BS for over 4 weeks! Her completely incompetent handling of everything from the paperwork to the tests to the misdiagnoses cost me over 4 months of time and agonizing stress, thinking I was dying of heart disease. I also have snapshots of the monitors from the tests and the data from the test, and the actual numbers is not what this PA wrote up in her reports to justify all her crazy ideas. She changed my data to fit her narrative and plan for more and more expensive tests/procedures. Thank God my GP ended up getting me in to see a real doctor/cardiologist--this took an additional 6 weeks--and the only way to completely negate all the erroneous hunches and bogus guesses the PA had loaded onto my chart was to have an angiogram that proved the PA had been wrong about everything. She literally risked my life 3 separate times and caused harm. My cardiologist said to me twice that the PA "...screwed you, she really screwed you." But of course, me, my husband and our insurance still have to pay for the over $35K in bogus tests/appointments/procedures despite them being completely unnecessary and dangerous. It is scary that we have no control over who is calling the shots and how much of our "program" is just to bring in extra dollars for the hospital.

    I'm struggling

Yeah my surgeon was a d**k. No IV PAIN MEDS AT ALL. Even when I kept puking post op. They wouldn't give me iv pheblnergan for naseau, they almost gave me a med I was allergic too, its a good thing I was curious and the nurses excuse was sorry it was at the bottom of the list. Like Wtf ?. Now I'm just trying to get my fluids in 😭😭🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ if there is any complications there is 1 other hospital near me where the surgery is done and I'll go there instead. F*** that. And to be fair I don't like this hospital either bc they've also tried to give me meds that I'm allergic to and sent me home with a gallbladder issue that was taken out 2 days after that visit 🙃 so that says alot

    Vitamins

Since surgery in June 2021 I have taken 2 Bariatric fusion multi vitamin chewable and 1 Bariatric fusion calcium daily. I recently had to add in a chewable fusion iron 2x a week bc my iron is low. Glad you mentioned the biotin isn’t working bc I’m losing fair and was gonna order it next.

    I'm struggling

My surgery experience has sucked so bad. No IV pain meds. Exhausted, and now home day 4. Surgery was Monday. I tried calling my doc about my vitamins and he pretty much blew me off. I had such a negative experience that I will not be returning to him If I have any issues, ill go to the other hospital that does these surgeries. My DOCS A pos. I'm also having trouble why are we drinking broth. Is it because it helps towards out water intake on top of our shakes. Bc it holds no protein. Anyone tell me if these vitamins are correct Sent from my SM-F926U using BariatricPal mobile app

Regrets for a Food & Wine Lover?

I was actually a food writer for about a decade... you don't write about food without eating in restaurants all the time, which is part of how I ended up two french fries short of 400 lbs. I had the same concerns. But here's the thing—I don't actually miss it. As corny and BS as this sounds, a taste is enough. My mother-in-law made a pie. I had two small bites. It was enough. I catered pizza to my daughter's school; I had a few bites. And if I do overindulge on something, the restriction kicks in right away, and reminds me why we don't overindulge on everything. I do find myself suggesting more active things ("let's go have a bonfire at the beach", "let's go hike through the nature preserve", etc.) rather than just defaulting to a meal with people. And if I do go to a celebratory meal, I just... don't eat much.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi everyone ! Just so happy bc I’m in ONEderland! Yay! I’m so grateful that I was approved for this surgery. I had posted my date was 10/19, since then I lost 31 lbs. No regrets, should have done this sooner! Only new challenge is learning to eat verrrry slowly since I started soft foods. Love this site, I’ve learned so much from you all! 😊
