  1. Is there anyone with a VSG or RNY surgery date at the end of February? My band has been out for about 3 weeks. Feeling good that I made it through the Holidays without gaining any weight. I have been trying to stay within the eating restrictions I had with the band for 14 years. Post op has been much better than expected. I must admit it has been a bit liberating to eat without restriction. I really appreciate the recent posts and comments on the complications with GERDS and acid reflux with VSG. They confirmed our decision to change course from VSG to RNY, because of my history with GERDS and acid reflux with my band. My by-pass surgery is scheduled for the end of February. In the meantime, I have a couple more "boxes" to check off to complete the requirements for Medicare.
  2. Hi everyone, I had my initial surgery 10 years ago. I lost 98 lbs and it brought my 5'6" frame to a svelte 156.00 lbs. I was looking and feeling great. Then I started to get sick and was passing out about 2 years post-op. I found out my lapband had slipped and I went in for a revision. Again 3 years later I had to have another revision. After that time I gained weight and leveled at 180 lbs. I didn't like the number but with exercise I looked okay and felt good, so I was okay with it. Push forward 4 years and I have gained another 25 lbs and now weight 205 lbs. I have tracked my food intake for one-full year and I average 1100 calories per day. So how in the heck can I now weigh 205 lbs? I went to the surgeon and was sent for a swallow test and was told my lapband had been tilted and was extremely tight and there was no reason to gain weight. I was documenting food right down to one tic tac. Last month I had a double hernia surgery and it was performed by a surgeon who also handles gastric weight loss surgeries (not my original surgeon). He stated that my port was located in a weird area, and not the norm, the port was disconnected from the band and therefore, was not working! Not what I was told by my original surgeon. This surgeon re-connected the band and stated, the band is not tilted, nor is it too tight since it was empty, and he can fill it in February. My question is this: I keep feeling bloated and I continue to gain weight, I am currently 209 lbs. I cannot locate anything online that states how many calories is normal for labband patients. I find diets up to 4 weeks post op but nothing for long term. Would I be okay with 1100 calories and making that up with 75-80 grams of Protein per day? Should I be doing less calories? Has anyone been successful with 21 day fix or some other program in addition to the lapband? I really need help I do not want to continue to climb the ladder of weight until I am adjusted. Thank you!

    I'm so upset, I'm a slow loser

Yeahhhh...I am approaching my 1 year mark and Im still at like 85 pounds lost. If you would have told me that I couldnt lose the 100 pounds I set out to lose in a YEAR I would have had a freakin heart attack. In fact when I had my consultation I asked how long it might take me to reach goal and they said "it takes some people 6 months, some people a year" and I said "A year??" and here I am a year later and NOT AT GOAL. I even revised my goal to 160 instead of 150 because I dont want to get too down. Im honestly just sick of this. I'm a size 10-12. Sometimes I think F--- it. Thats it. I'm done. But then I saw pics of myself at Christmas and I still feel like I have too much fat in my face and I want to lose my extra belly fat. Im so tired of the struggle. I'm tired of seeing other people lose so freakin fast. Im tired of people yelling at me for not being thrilled to lose 80 pounds. Thats LESS THAN 10 POUNDS A MONTH. ugh!! This surgery is not all it's cracked up to be. Its definitely not easy. By the way I do not eat junk food, dont eat deserts, i go to the gym, I eat protein. My body is ajust horrible and doesnt want to let go of fat. Thank you terrible genes.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

O wow lol yes Cigna is a great insurance. And they will also allow revisions or any other needs that we need to continue to be at a healthy weight!! It such a blessing to have an insurance that actually cares!!! I have my pre op Jan 8 and my surgery Jan 14. I am so excited. I only have 48hours of clear liquids before surgery. Obviously I also have a 8 hour no food restriction prior to the actual surgery. It is getting so close. I am so excited for this new journey but I am also so scared for surgery. Thankfully I am at the top rated center of excellence in the US and my surgeon deals with all the mess ups lol 😂 people fly from all over to come see him. So that really puts me at ease. He also does a numbing injection at all injection sites so the lain is very minimal so we are able to walk a round to avoid blood clotting etc.

    NYE 2019 surgery date twin?

Happy New Year to us! Im going in for band revision/gastric bypass tomorrow morning too . In La Jolla, CA *feeling pretty damn nervous.lol
  7. I'm currently in a weird place. 6 years out from my gastric bypass, 33 weeks pregnant, and on a feeding (nj) tube because I have a peptic ulcer and stricture so bad that I cant even keep water down. This is my first time having a stricture diagnosis. From what I'm told it is one of the worst most of the doctors here have seen. They had to navigate a wire through the stricture first just so they could have a feeding tube get in to my intestine. Doctors are thinking a ballooning of the stricture wont work because there is a lot of scar tissue. Surgery/ revision was mentioned. Has anyone had a surgery to correct this issue before? What was the down time? I currently have to wait 3 weeks to have my baby, then schedule a surgery. I'm just trying to see what the road ahead will look like. I haven't eaten anything since Thanksgiving and am going a little crazy not even being able to keep water down orally.
  8. I had a sleeve revision to mini gastric bypass. But it didn't fix my acid reflux and now I need a revision to full gastric bypass because the reflux can't be helped with medication. They say my esophageal sphincter is not closing.

    Overstitch procedure

I have an ESG (not as a revision) and am very happy with the result. This is a copy and paste from my doctor's ESG FAQ https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ Can I have an ESG following a gastric balloon, gastric sleeve or gastric bypass? ESG following gastric balloon: Recent research has revealed that people who’ve had a gastric balloon do less well following ESG in terms of weight loss. For this reason, we do not recommend ESG to anyone who’s has previously had a gastric balloon. ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist. ESG following gastric bypass: Endoscopic suturing is possible via a procedure called TORe, Transoral Outlet Revision.
  10. Not sure about food but, I used vitamin e oil after my sleeve with good results. This is what I plan to do since my recent revision once incisions are healed enough as well. The oil is pricey. I just get the bit e vitamins and cut one end of the gel capsule to apply. Much less expensive this way.
  11. I am likely revising to RNY from sleeve in May or June 2020 (I would do it right away, but have too many prior commitments between now and May that I can’t). I have constant GERD that has not responded well to any treatments and did have controlled GERD prior to sleeve.
  12. Find another dr. If you are able to find one that does revision to ds/Sadi/sips it may be your best bet. Do t give up on the word of just one dr.
  13. I was sleeved about 4 years ago since then I have been on a different antidepressant and gaining weight back. Starting weight 368 lost 114 pounds now I’m back to 302. Doctor says revision is not an option because of meds. Has anyone else had trouble getting doctor to do revision? thank you

Chest ache 5 weeks post op

So sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted on the diagnosis. Wishing you the best outcome. I had a revision to bypass 5 weeks ago. I ate too much by maybe a tablespoon Christmas Eve. I experienced the same as you but after getting sick with foamies, it did go away.
  15. I had the sleeve and after horrible reflux had the mini because I was told it would fix it. Reflux is worse than ever and now I need a full bypass. Super upset I have to have another surgery. I wish I would have just gotten the full bypass and not the mini but that's what my surgeon recommended. Waiting to see if insurance will pay for this revision, they denied me last time.
  16. I had the sleeve and then had horrible acid reflux and found out the sleeve was stretched. I had the mini gastric bypass because I was told that would fix it. Well it didn't. I have even worse reflux and found out my esophageal sphincter is not closing. Medication does nothing. After extensive testing I'm being told I need a full gastric bypass. I'm waiting to see if insurance will pay this time. They refused to pay for a revision last time stating my bmi wasn't high enough and I had no co-morbidities. My surgeon is confident he can get it approved so now I'm just waiting to see if it's covered. My first 2 surgeries were in Mexico.

    Need help Weight gain

I went back and read your past posts on the site. I'm sorry to hear about your brain and spine surgery in 2016. Was the Bypass in February a revision surgery? Your surgeons office ruled out medical issues, right? Did they give you any instructions on diet logging your food in an app? You posted this Posted April 19, 2016 Hi everyone, I am 3 1/2 out and I am gaining weight. I had lost 180lbs with 20 to go but now I have gained 30lbs. Over the passed 2 years I have had two major surgery that have lifted me not able to excise or eat right. I don't have a nut anymore because he retired. Can someone please tell me how I can get back on track.
  18. I had my revision on 12/17/19. I too had complications of GERD from my sleeve that I had almost 13 years ago. Since surgery no GERD. I've been on a liquid diet until yesterday and I was able to start protein shakes with no problem. Prior to the surgery everything including water at times would come up. I lost over one hundred pounds with the sleeve and I did keep it off. I'm currently a bit underweight, but soon I will be able to eat healthier and hopefully live a better life. I must admit the conversion was a bit more painful, but I'm also a lot older too and my body has been traumatized a lot for the last two years. I had my surgery at the # 1 hospital in the country. I won't give the name because I don't want to put something they told me without their permission. Prior to the sleeve I had no problems with GERD. The surgeon told me they no longer do the sleeve there because they have had so many patients come to them for revisions after the sleeve due to GERD. I hope your surgery went as well as mine and you are on the road to recovery.
  19. Ok, and I finally have a definitive answer to this question. I have a line from my elbow to the bottom of my armpit (from the arm lift), and then another line down my trunk with the starting point at the highest part of my side-boob and along the under-boob (from the breast revision reduction/breast lift)....so two unconnected lines. ...though I still haven't seen it myself. My surgeon used his finger to show me where the beginning and end lines were.
  20. I originally had a sleeve and a few years back had it revised to the mini bypass. I have the worst reflux ever now and have gained back even more weight than before the MGB and am just miserable. Is it possible to have a second revision to a full bypass? I saw a digestive specialist and he suggested that was the route I go, but ran into trouble actually finding a surgeon that would perform it, So if anyone has an insight or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it
  21. I went with sleeve revision to full bypass on 12/6. Very happy with my decision. No reflux!
  22. I had the sleeve and did the revision to the mini and if I could go back and not do the revision I would. I have gained back everything I lost and more, I have consistent reflux and vomit bile almost daily. I recently had a surgeon tell me that the mini was the worst choice for me and the surgeon who performed it, never should have. Not saying this is the same situation for you, but this was just my personal experience

    Band to bypass

I had my removal and update to Bypass done at the same time. I'm so glad I revised!

    Barimelts???

Yes I do take biotin and use a shampoo that is supposed to block dht and prevent hair loss. I had sleeve in March 2018. Started losing hair then and never stopped losing it. Praying that I don’t lose more with this revision! i meant that I don’t have to take calcium and iron separately
  25. I was revised from VSG to RNY due to horrific GERD and Barrett's Esophagus a week ago today. I had kept off 105# of an initial 125# weight loss but due to two hip surgeries stalling my running, had regained about 20# in year 6. But overall I was still happy with permanent weight loss. I had an abdominoplasty in 2013 where they pulled me pretty tight. Since discharge, the vast majority of my pain has been along the part of my incision adjacent to the abdominoplasty. Surgeon says this is common. Anyone else experience this?
