  3. I have been on pre op diet for 2 weeks but in the last 2 days I am very hungry on the 2-3 shakes and 1 meal. I am emotional and starting to question my decision. I believe part of the problem is adjustment of insulin, no caffeine, and very tired. My surgery is June 10, next Tuesday. I can't imagine the 2 days of liquid only on Sunday and Monday.

  5. First let me give you a little backround about me. I was banded 03/01/12, after surgery I was unable to get any fills due to having to get my gallbladder removed months later, after the gallbladder was removed I had around 4-5 fills total 4cc due to my stomach is super sensitive and only able to get around .5cc at a time. On christmas I also had to get an emergency appendectomy but did not have to remove the liquid from my band. Today I went and received a fill only .2 CC he tried .5 and it seemed to be to much for me. It took him a very long time to find my port this time, at least 15 min. Normally I can tell I received a fill but today it seems like im more hungry, and its not bothering me at all. If he missed the port putting the Fluid back in would I be able to tell besides that im hungry? Im sure its in there and im just being mental about it. Just wanted some feedback from you guys. Cooking & Eating Out Ideas

This is what someone else had posted (thank you!) and I have now put into my files. I just finished my first batch of the Turkey skillet and it was delish! Very filling. And the one at the end, the sausage and shrimp dish is mine and I love it! Easy Turkey Skillet Non-stick cooking spray 1 lb lean ground turkey 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped 3 tablespoons tomato paste 1 teaspoon each basil, oregano, red pepper and garlic powder ½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon black pepper 3 tomatoes, chopped 2 medium zucchini, sliced & halved 1. Brown turkey and onion in non-stick skillet sprayed with cooking spray. Cook until turkey is cooked through and onion is soft (about 10 minutes) 2. Add tomato paste and seasoning. Simmer another 10 minutes. 3. Add tomatoes and simmer another 5 minutes. 4. Add zucchini and cook 5 minutes more. Serve hot. Serves 4 (about 1 cup per serving) Calories 181; Carbs 13g; Fiber 4g ; Protein 21g ; Fat 6g chicken Breasts with cheese and Spinach 2 ounces goat cheese or reduced fat cream cheese, cut into pieces 1 garlic clove, minced 4 (6-ounce) boneless, skinless chicken-breast halves Salt and black pepper 1 bunch baby spinach (3 ounces), washed, trimmed, and coarsely chopped 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil ¾ cup reduced-sodium chicken broth 1. Combine cheese and garlic in small cup. Trim excess fat from chicken; season with salt and pepper. Using a sharp knife, cut a horizontal slit through thickest portion of each breast to form a deep pocket. Stuff each pocket with an equal amount of cheese mixture and spinach. Press edges of chicken together to seal. 2. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Brown chicken, 4 minutes per side. Reduce heat to medium; add broth to pan. Cover and simmer, about 6 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through. Serve immediately, discarding any remaining broth. Makes 4 full-size servings Per serving: 209 calories 31 g protein 1 g carbohydrate (WLS patients should only eat ¼ - ½ a breast – about 3oz) Baked Ricotta with Marinara 8 oz of ricotta cheese ½ cup grated Parmesan 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Salt & pepper to taste ½ cup marinara sauce ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Creole Shrimp and Sausage Stew Total: 20 minutes ****** Yield: 4 servings (serving size: about 1 cup) Ingredients2 teaspoons olive oil 1 cup chopped green bell pepper 1 cup thinly sliced turkey smoked sausage (about 6 ounces) (I prefer ground turkey and I use a whole package of it--a pound maybe?) 1 teaspoon bottled minced garlic 3/4 cup fat-free, lower-sodium chicken broth 1 (10-ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained (such as Rotel) 8 ounces peeled and deveined medium shrimp 1 (15-ounce) can organic kidney Beans, rinsed and drained 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley Preparation 1. 8. I'm curious about this as well. I have somewhat similar stats (not as far along as you though, weight loss wise), but I didn't lose as much weight pre-surgery as you. I'm 5'7" and was 273 day of surgery. Like you, no one really believed me when I told them how much I really weighed. My mom calls me "solid" so I guess that's why. I'm VERY pear shaped. I was usually wearing a size XL/1X shirt, but 24 in pants. Most of my weight was in my butt, lower stomach, and thighs. You definitely don't look 265-270 in your first pick. I think you look fantastic in your 170 picture! I looked at your profile and since you're pretty young at 28, it'll benefit you when it comes to excess skin. I'm 22 myself, but have been heavy since I was about 10, so that's 12 years my skin has had a chance to stretch out and I also have stretch marks. I'd rather not have cosmetic surgery, either. I heard for some it's very painful. I would LOVE to at least not be ashamed when wearing a two-piece! I've heard rubbing moisturizer, drinking a lot of Water, and exercising helps the excess skin go down. You'll look amazing at your goal weight.

    very exciting!

I use the overnight method because it's so easy. I think to cook steelcut oats the regular way takes 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how done you like them. I like getting up in the morning and the cooking is already done. Organic Steel Cut Oats - Bob's Red Mill

I was 6 weeks post op and my dr okayed a drink here and there socially. I had a wedding and drank 2 Malibu bay breezes couple hours apart. Took forever to drink, but it was delish! a little about me and what is going on

:smile:Hello , my name is samantha I am a 24 year old mother of 5 . I am just starting my journey to getting the lap band .And wanted to share my story . I was not over weight until I was 5 or so and after that I have always been over weight . My family called me count snackula , pie girl , and man cow instead of samantha . When I was eight I weighed close to 90 pounds ,when I was 14 I was 130 pounds ,and at 18 I weighed about 230 and now I weigh 310 . So I have tried many diets along the way and nothing works for long periods of time I would loose 10 to 15 pounds and then gain it right back. I am fed up with being this big and I am ready to make a change. I already went to the seminar for Dr. coirin , and have a consult apt with his office on feb. 7 I just can not wait to get things realy moving along !!! Thanks for reading this and good luck and god bless everyone on their journey !!!

Here's my real blog link: 2010's New Life 4 Me!!!
  14. I have had bursts of energy, too! It almost makes me feel like I'm getting a little manic! I've been doing yard work like crazy on the weekends and feeling like I've lost at least 10 years! The more I do, the stronger I get, the better I feel! I still feel tired sometimes, too, but I just try to pay attention to what my body wants/needs at the moment. Ride the high!

    New to the club.

Hello Danny! My name is Dominique, I am new here too! I'm 19 years old and had the sleeve done April 29th. I was required to do the two week diet. It was hard. Seeing as it's not a requirement, I suggest you try to start limiting your food intake and try to transition into soft foods as that's what you need to eat 2 to 3 weeks after. It was hard for me and honestly still is! I kept waiting till last minute to stop eating junk and now that I am recovering, it's hard to not eat all the food I use to haha. I've lost about 17 pounds so far which is great! I have my grandmother already getting me clothes as gifts for when I go down sizes. Lol. If you ever need someone to talk to about changing eating habits or need some support you can always come and message me! I wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

    Compression stockings

I had RNY, not sleeved but for 10 days following surgery my surgeon has patients give themselves a shot of Lovenox, it's a preventative to blood clots. As much as I hated giving myself a shot every morning, the thought of a blood clot was more horrific.

    Compression stockings

No compression stocking. Had the ones that squeeze ur legs hooked up to me the whole 48 hrs I was in the hospital (hubby was good at detaching/attaching them when I had to pee - every 10 mins after they took my catheter out). I was just told to walk often. Cound't hurt tho
  19. I know Im insulin resistance and any sugars over react in my body. They have proven you can have up to a 300% insulin surge compared to a normal person but I get doubters too, everyone says Im just overeating. I too wasnt but at most 10 lbs overweight thru my 30s, and hit menopause. Saying having the surgery now is your last resort, is probably not true, I wanted it earlier and then finally sprang for it myself and am self pay. My BMI was in the 38s, about where yours is.

  21. Often, especially early on in a bandster's journey, they will post, frustrated by a stall or small gain...here's an explanation of why this happens: Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    Calcium Citrate Question

So pre-op I've been using these. I'm allowed to start my Vitamins and supplements tomorrow so I'm hoping they won't make me sick. You take 2 a day and I believe I paid $10-$15 for a bottle of 90. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I've stumbled upon a new snack that is really good. I know that we were told to try and stick to things (food or drink) that is 10 or less of sugar. This qualifies. Quaker Chewy Peanut Butter chocolate Chip granola bars. (on the box it says 25% less sugar) 1 bar is: 100 calories 5 grams sugar 3 grams fat 2 grams of Protein It says 'Our Quaker Chewy Bars are made with 8 grams of whole grain rolled oats, rice & wheat' They're really good, not something I'd recommend for protein, but much less sugar than some of the choices out there.
  24. I'm almost 3 months post op and I have stomach flu. This is TERRIBLE. I haven't had the stomach flu in 10 or so years. The vomiting and diarrhea is just awful. I went to dr. They have me some meds. Does anyone have any "go to" beverages? I cannot handle Water. I don't want to do tea bc of the caffeine. I have been drinking Powerade zero as much as possible and had some diet ginger ale. I went from nauseated to now cramping--- probably bc of all the meds and this is so rough on my tummy. Is there anything that helped you guys ever? I'm desperate and miserable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
