    Thanks, @LindsayT. I'm glad you're doing well. I am def struggling with this decision for some reason. I probably just don't want the more invasive surgery. But I'm still on the fence. Way to go on rocking your weight loss!

    I totally agree. I did the same thing I was so hungry and I was only 4 days out I went to the Chinese restaurant and ordered me some egg drop soup and that gave me life, I was able to chew the very soft eggs as well as sip the broth. Nothing taste the same, I started before my doc put me on it. And I'm doing better and still losing weight. I'm eating canned salmon and canned chicken with light mayo what a big difference it makes. The only have issues in getting the 56 ounces of liquid down I get up by 6 am to start drinking any liquid and finish by 11 pm its so hard because sugar free stuff do not taste good to me anymore.
  3. Hey people! 4 months and 3 days post RNY. What meal and snack ideas can you give me that are high in protein? I'm still not hitting my goals and currently thinking about drinking protein, turns my stomach. This happened in the beginning aftrr surgery as well. Any good recipes? I know there are recipes on here somewhere, but what are your top high protein foods? I need to start planning my foods ahead again. How long did everyone's hair loss last? When I had lapband in 2009, my hair loss wasn't as bad as it is this time. My hair gets SO tangled! Probably because this time my hair is lightened and colored with fashion colors. But, when did the hair loss start to ease up for you? I feel like im overeating. I feel like I could have lost a lot more weight by now. If it's not overeating then it's high calorie foods. For example, I can eat almost a who bagel with a serving of cream cheese and a 1/2 to a cup of cherries for breakfast. A lot of the times I skip lunch because I eat whatever I have at breakfast at that time. Then if I have a snack yes I'll eat a junk food item like a serving of chips or a cheesestick and then at dinner I'd have the 3 ounce of chicken, with 1/2 cup veggies and spoonful (the ones you cook with) of rice. Of course I'd have regular BBQ sauce or chic fil a sauce (a serving) and a serving of butter on my rice. Then awhile later before I get in the shower I'll have one or two of the following; a popsicle, another serving of chips, popcorn, yogurt, ice cream sandwich (yep I shouldn't be eating this. No, it hasn't made me sick and no I don't have it often), a cheesestick, etc. Or sometimes I'd eat some cereal if I know it doesn't make me feel sick. When I write it out, it doesn't look like I'm overeating, but when I track it, it comes out to be around 1200 calories. I shouldn't stress, but I need to make better choices and maybe make schedule for water intake and food intake. PLEASE, no rude/mean replies. Please be helpful. I want to succeed, and right now I feel like I'm not gonna succeed eventhough I'm not gaining, I'm still slowly losing. Thanks for your time!
  4. My choice on the bypass was solely made because I have GERD and I didn't want to possibly make it worse by getting the sleeve. I cannot imagine going through a revision surgery. A lot of people do, but that was definitely something I didn't want to experience, especially since the first 6 weeks after were very unfun. That said, it's your choice and either surgery will give you great weight loss results; just look at the possible cons of each surgery as well. As far as dumping with the bypass, it keeps me in check when choosing what to eat. I hope that works for my advantage later down the road.

    Yeah that's what I'm going to do from here on out is stay off of the scale I know it is a process it's going to take up to a year to even get to my goal weight but close to that but I know I don't have that much to lose but it's still hard but I don't want to be on the scale thinking oh I only lost a pound today or yesterday so yeah it's best to stay off I was just happy when I went to the doctor and he was like oh you lost 12 lbs
  6. Hi All, First time posting but long time lurker:) I had my sleeve done 4 years ago. In the last year or so I have been ticking upwards in my weight but the reflux is terrible. My surgeon did not screen me for a hiatal hernia before my surgery and did a repair during my VSG. The hernia has increased in size when I had an endoscopy done last year but my insurance at the time wouldn’t cover a revision. Now I have insurance that will cover revision. I had a virtual consult with my original surgeon and he has reservations about doing a revision because of my low BMI and maybe just a repair. WHAT?! I have had a repair. He wants to do another endoscopy but him saying this is confusing to me. Has anyone had their surgeon suggest such a thing? I don’t want to continue to gain weight but I really do not want to continue to live with GERD. I’ve not been successful in managing the GERD or stopping the regain (even if slow).
  7. I can only speak for myself. That being said I’m in the US and I had to go on a “diet” before my surgery to yes decrease the size of liver. I had to stop stepping on the scale as it will drive you batty. Focus on your meal plan. 3 weeks is short period of time and it’s not expected to drop off that fast. Weight loss is only one goal. Water is one of your goals, and meeting your calorie and protein numbers is another. Your comments are kind of unusual for someone 3 weeks out tho. Usually it’s about other things, nausea, not feeling hungry…etc. if you’re skipping eating that will effect your weight loss. If you follow your meal plan to the letter you will see the difference. You didn’t really mention what stage of your meal plan you are on now (liquids, soft, purée). Best of luck.

    BMI 35 and MGB

    Well, now it’s almost 3 months gone and I’ve lost 13 kg ( only) . Weird is that I get hungry over 2 hours and probably it takes down weight loss. I still don’t have problems with dumping or loosing hair which is good.
  9. That's honest. But the changes are necessary to get to a healthier place. Eventually you will be able to go back to bad eating habits and regain the lost weight if you so choose and are miserable being at a healthy BMI. But who does that???

    First rule of weight loss: don’t compare yourself to anyone else. We’re all too different: age, starting weight, medical status, weight loss & gain history, mobility, gender, genetics, … As everyone has said you’re pretty much on track. We lose our weight at the rate that’s best for us & it has no impact on whether we lose our weight or not. It just may take longer if you are are slower loser & there’s nothing wrong with that. Stick to your plan, make the best choices you can & you’ll lose weight. All the best.

  12. I had an EKG at the cardiac doctor's office that appeared normal. But because I have a strong family history of heart disease (my brother died at 34 and my dad at 58) I was given additional testing. A Cat scan before and after the stress test to visually see my recovery time and an ultrasound which showed a possible irregularity. I had to have a heart catherization only to find that everything was fine. I was so very much relieved that I had no blockages which TBH worried me daily because of my weight and family history. I think the doc was even surprised and cleared me for WLS that very day, when it was done. Even the nurse commented on how clear my arteries looked. FTW I'm counting on my Gastric bypass to be a helpful preventative against future heart problems. Just one of the many reasons I had it done. Hopefully your checkup goes smooth for you OP and that you will only need that EKG

  15. Wow that amazing! Congrats on the weight loss so far! Do you mind sharing your starting weight? And I started purees on Wednesday. It's a bit of an adjustment eating such small amounts at a time. But it's doable.

    Ok I’m about to have a depressing moment. I like shoes. I have lots of shoes. Size 46.5EU. Today I went back to work having been sleeved on Sunday. Evidently I had fat feet which I didn’t know. My feet have shrunk so all of my shoes are now too big. €6000 worth of designer shoes were rendered useless in 5 days. 😨 Like I’m glad the weight has gone but do the shoes have to suffer????

    20 lbs is great for 6 weeks considering there may have been a stall of 3 weeks or so. So more or less you must have lost 20 lbs in about 3 to 4 weeks. And 20 lbs is a good chunk for the duration! And yes comparison to anyone else isn't going to do you any good. In the end, you won't ever lose the same amount as any xyz. You'll have to be happy with your progress and the weight your body decides to stabilize at as long as you did all you could and stuck to your weight loss plan! P.S - Just saw your BMI. Seems like your starting BMI wasn't that high to begin with. Higher the BMI, more the weight loss generally speaking!

    you've lost more than I did at that point, and I started out much heavier than you. there are many factors that determine your rate of weight loss, most of which you have little to no control over - age, gender, starting BMI, genetics, metabolic rate, how muscular you are, if and how much weight you lost prior to surgery, etc. The only two things you have a lot of control over are how closely you stick to your plan and how active you are. If you do well with those, you WILL lose the weight, whether fast or slow. I was a slow loser throughout my entire journey, and I ended up losing 100% of my excess weight, over 200 lbs. honestly, except for people the size of those on "My 600 lb Life", most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month after surgery. Since you've lost 20 lbs in six weeks, you were likely in that range at the end of month #1. You'll always find some who lose above or below that range, but they're outliers. Your amount of loss is completely normal (and also, men tend to lose faster than women - hence, your husband...)

    So I had my post-op nurse check yesterday. But I also have a broken foot and the other one swelled up and painful to the touch and intense pain when I bear weight on it. It took a lot of effort to get from my car in the parking lot to the clinic office. I had taken alot of acetaminophen that prior 12 hours and no sleep cause of the foot pain. By the time I made it back to the car I was so weak and tired, probably should not of been behind the wheel. I got home, and went to bed immediately. From 10 am to 4am this morning, I thought I was close to death. I was so weak, my stomach hurts so so bad. It's gross but anal leakage. I could not eat or drink and protein. Anyone else experienced this at all? I'm still weak and tired this morning but my stomach is fine.

    I am the same. I lost of lot of weight 7 years ago and gave all clothes away or threw out then 5 years later I was buying the larger stuff all over again. That is partly why this time I am going the surgery route, for long term stability. I have a wardrobe full of stuff that I rarely wear and in all different sizes so I think I have enough things to keep me going the first few months of weight loss and then I can't wait to donate/sell/throw away and start to build a better wardrobe. I have made a list of a few things I will treat myself to such as a nice bracelet because currently I consider my wrists too fat to wear one, a nice designer belt because I hope to be able to wear a tucked in top that will show a waist instead of now all my floaty style tops. My dream one day would be able to fit my calves into a pair of boots but I am not sure that will ever be possible as didn't manage it before when I lost so much weight as they are sooooo fat that even the speciality ones don't fit.

    Another case of I’m glad I didn’t get rid of these shoes or boots this time. Bought these about 10years ago back when I was in my old usual weight range (before my menopause weight gain). I kept them because they were so lovely even though I thought they were too big at 38.5 (now a 37.5-38) & them being wide around the calf. I decided to put them on yesterday for the hell of it & they fit. A little big but thick socks helped then I remembered they did run a little small. Yes, I can put my hands down the sides but putting them over pants helped. Wore them today & two people stopped me to tell me how much they loved them. One was disappointed when I said they were about 10yrs old as she was going to ask where I bought them to get herself a pair.
  22. I too am scared of losing too much weight with a revision. I had the sleeve done in 2014. I'm 5'4" and my lowest was 102. After 3 years I hit my happy spot of 115. I've stayed there for the last 6 years. I'm intentionally gaining now for fear of going too low. I'm at 125 right now and do not yet have a date. I've already had EGD and upper GI series. I just had my manometry done on the 20th and my pH with Bravo is on the 29th. He will submit to insurance after that. I'm really really scared and wish there was another option besides bypass but the 3 doctors I've seen say bypass is my only option. I'm glad to see you're doing well, and hope that I do too, but I sure am scared.
  23. Apparently not everyone does. I’m in that category. According to my nutritionist and doctor, your body is in shock and is prob still retaining water. My doc said that some ppl don’t start losing weight until weeks later. So my advice would be to put away the scale and continue following the stages. That’s what I’ve decided to do.

    Over 50 sleevers

    I'm sorry, @StJules. I haven't had my surgery yet (coming in July), but I've read plenty of posts here that are encouraging re slower starts to weight loss. I'm 62 and wondered if it is slower in the beginning because of age, but that doesn't always seem to be the case. And really, I think there are a few people who lose a LOT in the beginning, but that's not as common. I think they just stand out to us more and we become hopeful...or at least I do. Hang in there. Hopefully we'll all be able to report significant weight loss soon...and more importantly, better health! This is a good forum. I encourage you to keep reading posts that address your concerns. Lots of helpful people here! Welcome! 😊

    Still Undecided.....

    yep - went back and forth for 10 years. But I finally admitted to myself that I couldn't do it alone - I cannot tell you how many times I lost weight, just to gain it all back again. The most I could ever lose (and this was just a handful of times) was 50-60 lbs. But most times it was more like 10-20. I had over 200 lbs to lose. How on earth was I going to pull that off i I couldn't even keep 50 of? I finally realized this was the only thing left to try. And I was afraid of a drastically shortened life if I didn't get the damn weight off. So I finally did it. It wasn't easy - but it worked.
