Thought I would share my success: So, this morning I had to try about 20 outfits to find one that was not falling off me! There is a big pile of clothes that don't fit on my bed. In the past, it was the reverse! The pile would consist of clothes that were too tight! Not a single pair of my office pants fits me anymore. So, I am going to use my 30% kohls coupon today to buy a couple of pairs to ride me over. Down from pant size 22 to 16! YAY!

Things I'm looking forward to
Candygyrl replied to fancypants11578's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YAAAAAAS YAAAAAAAS! This and this!! At 3 mos post op-- I do not have to shop in the plus dept. I can but I can fit most Large and even some mediums. I am technically still plus size but I am now able to finally take my rightful position in the stores I was meant to shop in!!! And that makes me feel confident! Next year-- my 20th reunion will be on a cruise ship to the Bahamas. I will be there with bells on. Looking as good as I did when I was in my 20's. I don't really talk to any of my old classmates but I'll be there with my hubby. If it turns out to be lame, he and I will still have a great time on the other side of the cruise ship no matter what. Yaaaaaas girl hang in there-- it's coming!!! I'm married but I do miss getting hit on like I used to a woman needs to be able to turn heads to feel sexy sometimes. HOWEVER-- when it does start to happen, which it is a little bit-- I only have eyes and loyalty for my hubby. He stood by me and made me feel beautiful through it all. The other guys can kiss my ass. I'm going to hold my head up high flash my ring and keep it moving. Going to Cedar Point in 2 weeks for HALLOWEEKENDS. The last time I was there with my family-- I was turned away from 3 rides because the belts wouldn't fit and I was sooooo embarrassed. I doubt that will happen this time! LOOKING SO FORWARD TO IT! All great goals and NSV's. I just related to these ones so well I had to shout!!! -
One of my sons is a phenomenal athlete (track, cross country, swimming, and soccer). Since surgery he's worked with me to find exercise I like and when I travel he sends me reminders to hit the hotel gym. Even though he can run circles around me, for months he's gone with me at 430 AM, three days a week, when I go running/jogging. One of the indicators he was most concerned about was my high resting heart rate (and my BP). For the last few days my resting HR has been really great- a huge change since last July when I had WLS. After this morning's run, he gave me one of his track gold track medals and told me that my heart is getting slower and his is getting bigger because he is so proud of his "little mom."

crossing my legs
Laverne1908 replied to gurliepunk12543's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats to you on your NSV!!!! I cannot wait until I am able to comfortably cross my legs!! -
I've always wanted to go skydiving, but have been over the permissable weight since I've been old enough. Well, I turned 30 on Saturday and for my birthday I went skydiving! It was amazing! Now I just need to figure out how to convince my head that I am at a more normal weight. When they had me step on the scale I was convinced it would read out heavier than I am. Then, when I went to put on the jump suit I really didn't think it would fit... But it all did and I had a BLAST (and survived ) Anyway - just had to share! ~Lori

Molly: Way to go! It's these NSV's that keep us going. Thanks for sharing because on days that we don't have our own NSV's we can get inspiration from those who do. Thanks again. Sue

I am only @ 11 weeks post-op and already enjoying the following NSV's: 1. Back, hips & knee hurt so much less when walking now 2. I can walk up the steps to my 2nd floor apartment with ease now, if I have to make multiple trips to carry groceries up, I do it without getting exhausted, before this I would have to rest between trips. 3. I am 3 sizes smaller so far 4. Everyone tells me I have more pep in my step, that I glow, and I am so much happier I smile all the time now. People noticing is a great motivating booster. 5. I admit to not using my bipap every night, but I can tell I don't need it much longer !! Will follow up with sleep doctor soon. 6. Starting to see & feel my knee bones. My arms are slimming. I am starting to feel my hip bones when laying down. 7. And new NSV today, I woke up with a stiff neck, was rubbing my neck to my shoulders and I felt my shoulder bones !!! I don't know if I can remember feeling that in over 15 years Loving this journey to a healthy me. Yes surgery sucked, I was in pain for weeks after, I have stalls (oh the stalls), it isn't always easy, I'm not perfect at fluids, Protein & exercise every day. I have some people who don't support my decision and sometimes I just want something I can't have (well my head wants it, lol) but I wouldn't change a thing about my decision. I am hovering at -75lbs gone and I could not be more happy with my sleeve! I can honestly say I love my sleeve and never had any regret about doing this surgery! I have been frustrated by my "slow" loss but am working on acceptance and trying to embrace it. I did have my 9 month checkup with my surgeon, and when I expressed concern about losing slowly, he laughed and said that I'm doing excellent! He said my weight loss was on target (according to his charts, I'm doing exactly as I should number-wise), my workouts were perfect, and my meals were perfect (I brought in samples of my food logs) so that was wonderful news. He sort of set a target to lose about 15-20lbs in the next 13 or so weeks, and of course that would be wonderful, but as things are slowing way down for me I am doubtful that I can make it. I might be able to swing -15lbs and I would be thrilled with that. That would put me -90lbs for my one year anniversary of getting the sleeve and that would be awesome. So in that spirit I am working on acceptace. I'm starting to Celebrate more of the little things that matter like running up a flight of stairs and not being winded, or the fact that I can bare my arms and wear sleeveless tops, or bouncing on the trampoline with the kids in the backyard...all things that seem small but in reality are huge NSV's. I do love seeing before/after pictures (SO MOTIVATING!) so I will post a comparison picture. It is not a body shot (sorry I have no new body shots) so it will have to be a face shot. Sometimes pictures really DO tell the story and even the change in my face is dramatic. I'm always wowed by the fact that as people lose weight their facial features become more prominent. Not being dwarfed by their own weight, suddenly eyes and noses and eyebrows are SO much bigger on a face that isn't carrying so much extra weight. I can hardly believe it's been 9 months SINCE being sleeved as I remember waiting the 6 months to BE sleeved and feeling like it was an eternity. If you are pre-op hang tight, soon you will be posting that you are 9 months too!

I went out with some friends for Girls Night out on Friday. I knew I was going to have fun and get some much needed ME time. Well, the night started off great when I tried on a pair of size 16 jeans, buttoned, zipped, and they fit!!! In January I was wearing size 26. So while driving to town, I was thinking that it was a great night already and not thinking it could get any better. Well, while waiting on the rest of the girls to show up, a couple of us stood outside talking when one of the girls walked up and said "Susan, I didn't recognize you." It was a great feeling. Can't wait til the next GNO in October. I know some on here have had friends who have not been supportive, but I have been so blessed.

mrboswell, Congrats!!!!! That is great to hear that you've had good early success! Don't forget to measure the NSVs (Non scale Vitories) as well. They are everywhere early on. Think about how out of breath a certain activity made you before being banded. Now? There are little changes that we aren't always aware of. My approach was, and you are welcome to emulate it, to not set WEIGHT goals, but FITNESS goals. Sure, I still keep track of the #. It is what we all understand. However, if that is/becomes your FOCUS, you will miss oppportunities for growth and lasting change. As one of my larger fitness goal, I set a goal to run one 5K in 2008. I'll admit, it wasn't a very lofty goal now that I have hindsight. I did not know how I would adapt to the band and did not have a mentor to "show me the way". Set a goal you are comfortable with. Remember, a goal not written is only a wish. Once you set the goal, think of milestones that will help you to measure your progress. I have a form that I created in Excel called LBGoals. I'd be happy to share it with you. It now has 16 tabs to the spreadsheet. I measure everything there. I have a quote on my Goals page that headlines it all. It says: "When performance is measured performance improves. When performance is measured and reported the rate of improvement accelerates." Thomas S. Monson Pres. Monson gave that quote more in a business setting than religious one. It is quoted everywhere in business. Google it. He is so right on target with that! I have a "Coach" who is a former neighbor who used to run track at USU. He knows about my band, but he isn't there to talk to about the band. I went to him for advice on running. I asked if he would mind if I shared my workouts with him each week. I copy a portion of my weekly workouts into a training log that I send him each Sunday. He helps me to focus my workouts to where they will help me improve the most. These are short emails. I've only seen him a few times in the past year as he now lives in another city. I feel like I "owe" him an accounting of my workouts since he has been generous with his suggestions. He helps me - and lo and behold, I've helped him to FOCUS too. I can share a whole lot more. I am open to discuss any of my experiences with you. Let me know. Chris

What have you learned to love since WLS?
OKCPirate replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm doing digging being a member in good standing in the First Church/Cult of Protein. Also all the little NSV's. May not be the clearest picture I've ever taken, but notice there is nearly a foot of slack in my seat belt on my flight yesterday. A year ago I was fretting having to use the extender (which gets you kicked out of the exit row). There was lots of space. Think about all the extra wear and tear we are not subjecting ourselves to by being smaller. -
Congratulations! This sounds awesome. I grew up in the mountains, but it has been decades since I have been able to hike up hill. This is an NSV I am looking forward to!
