    Hair loss

Yes make sure you tell your stylist , deposit only! I am a hair stylist who specializes in fine thin hair, and hair loss, that would be my recommendation until you start feeling thick and full again.

2 pounds and I will be overweight!

congrats!!! When i got to a BMI of about 28 my surgeon told me I had lost enough to gain the health benefits of massive weight loss. I look and feel best when I am in the 24/25 range of BMI because i have a muscular and substantial build... if i get smaller I just look bony. I suspect that you won't want to be under 154, that seems really light for a full grown man! Anyway, you are doing awesome - hope you are really enjoying it!
  3. I am now 6 months post-op (sleeve) and have lost 100 lbs during this time!! I am beyond thrilled and feel amazing!! I was wondering though if any other women noticed any changes in their periods in this timeframe? I am very regular but am noticing that periods are a little shorter and lighter (not a bad thing), I also just turned 40 and am hoping that this is related to the rapid weight loss/exercise and not the beginning of perimenopause! My husband and I have not been able to conceive due to my obesity and I realize that I am now "old", but still hoping there may be a chance. I would love any feedback from those that have been there! Thank you!

    Hair loss

Deposit is when you go darker. You have to lift hair with peroxide to get it lighter, which can really compromise fine thinning hair.

    1 week post op today!!!

Congrats on the weight loss!! I am having my surgery June 30th and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I am not looking forward to the days following the surgery. I have to be back to work that Thursday morning. I am hoping for a quick and easy recovery. Thankfully I have a desk job and I can leave if I need too.

    Oct 2012 Sleevers

I like the term "losers" bench also! That is really wonderful beckryn10 so glad to hear about your weight loss. I'll be glad when i can rejoice like you. My surgery is March 4th.
  7. Cannot believe it has taken me this long, but I think I'm finally getting over the nausea hump. It's still there and I still have a hard time stomaching my own saliva. Either have to swallow it with Water or spit it out. My sleeve is a little wuss right now. LOL. However, the nausea is only there half the time... Woohoo!! I feel that I can finally Celebrate my weight-loss.. 45 lbs in 6 weeks! I stayed the same for about a week, but that's likely because I was in starvation mode. Literally no food or Protein drinks since about 5 days post-op will do that to a person. That's 5 straight weeks no nutrients. I kept asking asking the doctors how I was alive. The 3 ER visits for IV fluids were basically keeping me afloat plus I got more fluids when they did another endoscope. (BTW, the official prognosis was that I'm fine, just a slow healer & my stomach is more swollen than most.) Now to the exciting part!! I ate actual food yesterday! On a whim I bought 3-olive hummus, and no nausea after eating! I was able to eat about a tablespoon. I basically just licked it off the wheat thin mostly. But, did get about 3 wheat thins in, too. I'm so energized! This is the push I needed. Here's to my new life finally beginning! ~Jenn

    Application Completed --

Went to seminar on 6/15. Great presentation! Impressed with surgeons. Application completed and submitted. Waiting for my PCP and Endocrinologist to write letters of medical necessity. Aetna sent me copy of criteria to be met - looks like I meet them! Just waiting to hear back from Portsmouth. Would like to do this in the fall. Working on losing the first 10 pounds on my own. Dr. switched me to Byetta to help with weight loss - awful headaches and nausea...not sure this is the way I want to lose this.

    Hair loss

From what I've researched hair loss will come, no matter what. However if you follow the guidelines with all Protein, Vitamins etc. should grow back. My surgery is tmrw 11/14. Loosing my hair terrifies me. I've already purchased Biotin and all vitamins so hopefully I don't lose too much. Fingers crossed. Good luck and keep me posted if find products that help.
  11. I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. My surgeon told me to eat mushies, get in 60 - 70 grams of Protein a day, and follow my vitamin/mineral regimen. I normally eat a poached egg with a few cheese shreds in the morning, a 1/4 c. of cottage cheese or refried Beans with a bit of cheese at lunch, and dinner is 50 grams of protein, Isopure Dutch chocolate made with Water. Weight loss is 28 pounds in 30 days, counting pre-op. I just put my food intake into Fitday.com, and that's less than 350 calories a day. Excuse me? The only time that I feel anything remotely resembling hunger is when I'm behind in taking my PPI. I still can't gauge fullness, which is why I'm measuring my food. Is there a guideline as to how many calories a day I should be eating? I have never in my life been in a situation where I didn't know how much to eat. God bless the sleeve.

Starting to gain the weight back help

Hi Tammy, Sorry to hear about your stroke! Glad that you are healthy again and ready to start back on track-that motivation is generally the hardest part about weight loss. I, unfortunately, have only recently been sleeved so I am unfamiliar with what advice might be the most helpful. This forum has been extremely helpful to me thus far so I am sure there will be lots of assistance. Keep your chin up!

    Flirting

Oh, it can be really hard to tell- its good if you're obviously getting along it means your compatible... Try the touch factor! If they have a beard or curly hair you can try briefly touching it, it will see how comfortable he is and show him you don't mind being touched back. Same thing with his arm or leg, a gentle brush and laugh or big smile. You will have to be more confident around him, smile bigger, laugh a little more, treat him like you would a girl friend. You can also get more serious, you can ask for (or offer to do) a "favour" that takes a little while and encourages more contact, like getting a coffee for you (him), helping you carry some parcels, fix something, lend/borrow something... Basically anything you can think of to make the relationship more personal... Usually this will also send off alarm bells to let him know you do actually like him and his company... You can also use the excuse you need some fresh air would he like to go for a walk with you... After all this extra attention if he doesn't ask you out for a drink after dinner or actively make excuses himself to stay around you longer then he is just being friendly I got my boys attention because I wasn't flirting, I was just being nice and playing pool with him and I hurt my hand, he came over and rubbed it better and I felt the sparks... He did too because he kissed me (to the complete dismay of my friends who had been fawning over him!) lol Now that your on the losers bench you'll get a lot of attention but the rules still apply, if you give out attention and they just accept it and don't offer their own (basically ask you out!) then it's time to move on to the next one

    Ladies "Tom" refuses to leave...

I'm not quite clear on the question but if you're asking if it changed, the answer is yes. I used to have a 28 day cycle, now it's 60 days. I'm told that a change in your cycle is very normal and expected with rapid weight loss. That being said what you're going through sounds serious, I'd call my Doctor or NUT asap.
  15. Check your insurance policy. It will say whether weight loss/bariatric surgery is covered or not, and if it is what it will cost you out of pocket. For example, in my policy is it listed under Surgical Procedures in Section 5b. You can also call customer service at the number on the back of your card and ask them what your policy says about weight loss surgery. Schedule an appointment with your Primary Care Physician (PCP). Ask them to please refer you to Nutrition Services to be considered for for weight loss surgery. They will probably mail you some forms to fill out and return. Then they will send you a letter. If you qualify you will be on the program waitlist. Unless they pick up the pace you will wait 6+ months to get into the pre-surgery program. You will have 8 weeks of classes plus blood work, program specialist and psych visits, etc. If you pass the classes you will be scheduled to meet for final checkoffs with psych, pre-op bloodwork/physical, and finally to meet with your surgeon of choice. You'll also have to do either a 3-day or 14-day pre-surgery diet. I'd recommend the 3-day, so lose some weight before and/or during the 8-week program, that way you're more likely, but not guaranteed, to get the 3-day diet vs. the 14-day diet. You will get to choose from one of two surgeons: Dr. Husain or Dr. Chae. I chose Dr. Chae, but I have heard good things about both surgeons. The differences: one is female, the other male. One is younger, the other a little older and probably has more bariatric surgeries under his belt. One doesn't use a post-surgery drain tube (from what I've heard), the other does (from what I experienced). Ask for details so you can make an informed decision that you are comfortable with. Maybe you feel comfortable with a surgeon of the same gender as you. The choice is yours. My surgery was at Saint Joseph Hosptial in Denver. Yours probably will be as well. NOTE: When they discharge you, make sure they send you home with prescriptions for pain (probably liquid Lortab), nausea, acid reduction (acid reducer/PPI), and blood thinners (if you need them after you are discharged, I didn't. This seems to vary based on your condition, medical history, etc.). Have your family or friend fill them before you are discharged so you don't have to stop on the way home. You might not need the pain meds to mask unbearable pain, but they are great for a couple/few days after discharge if for nothing else than to ween off the morphine drip and to help you get some sleep. If all goes well, you'll get your surgery. My plan covers sleeve. Apparently some don't, but most people I was in groups with had the option. Depends on what your policy covers, I guess. The bottom line is, the wait and process is long but well worth it. It took me almost a year to get through the entire waitlist and pre-surgery stuff. Be patient, but if four or five months passes on the waitlist and you don't get a call, be proactive and call Nutrition Services to ask where you are on the waitlist. If you need to contact Nutrition Services directly: Kaiser Permanente offers gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding (also know as the Lap Band) procedures. Not all benefit plans cover weight loss surgery. Please call 303-788-1154 for more information. http://www.kphealthy...for-adults.aspx

    Gym Scam!

Nothing to suck up, I promise only. Handful of people at the gym have no insecurities, partly bodybuilders and cross fit addicts, but if you go to the right gym, you can and will be comfortable right away, I don't know where your from but I go to Freedom Fitness and they have separate areas for males and females, I'm actually very proud to go since people notice my weight loss and muscle gain, I have a hot wife so people know I'm not there to pick up anyone, you will be ok, it's about you not others!!!!!!!! I know you can do this, I can do anything after the gastric surgery, that was the hardest.

    Rapid weight loss......

I've experienced the same thing. I did NOT gain weight from fluids in the hospital. I was in the hospi 2 nights and 3 days and when I came home I was 9lbs down. When I weighed after surgery I was 3lbs down. I am having a difficult time with gas, bloating, discomfort and fullness, yet I can't hardly keep anything down and I have diarrhea too. I'm worried about getting dehydrated but not worried about rapid weight loss. Doc said people who are nauseated and discomforted after surgery tolerate food best later on down the road and lose the most weight.

    NO weight loss....

What did your doc say? If it were ME...I'd cut out the protein shakes (my doc is adamant that they are a meal REPLACEMENT, not adjunct or snack) and just eat the food. Also count your calories just for a couple of days (for data only, not as a new way of life) and make sure you're getting enough. With the exercise you're doing, adding 100-200 cals a day may make a big difference in your weight loss (seems counter-intuitive, but it's true. As you are building muscle your body NEEDS more than "normal")
  21. I need some help! I'm about 5 weeks post op and about 3 days ago I started feeling pretty yucky. The sight and smell of food really makes me nauseated. I've only been able to take in a few protein shakes, water, and some soup. I was doing really really good up until now. Monday, I started taking birth control pills again at the request of my surgeon. I know my hormones are already out of whack from the weight loss and surgery. When I try to take in something solid, it's hard to get it down, swallow, and keep it down. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be my hormones trying to figure out what the hell is going on? Or something more serious like a stricture or leak? My husband also had the surgery about 11 weeks ago and never experienced this.

    What is this? Bruised feet?

I have lost 47 pounds and I feel like the bottoms of my feet are bruised. I also felt like this when I lost a lot of weight on Atkins. I walk anywhere from 3-7 miles . . . almost daily. Is it the loss of fat on the bottoms of my feet? Is it from so much walking? It's just kind of annoying. I'm okay if I'm in running shoes or wearing comfy shoes . . . but I can barely go barefoot at all anymore. Isn't that weird?
  25. ..... but I think I my body might have finally "got it". I am nearly 5 months post op and up until tthe last month or so I have been so frustrated and discouraged. My weight loss is still lower where I want it to be, I am 21 weeks out (147 days) and down 34.3 pounds since my day of surgery. 14 pounds of that on the last 40 days or so. I actually lost 3.2 in the last 8 days!!! I still have a long way to go, and I know that weight loss starts slowing down a bit at around 6 months (Yikes). Since I started out so slow (20 pounds in the first nearly 4 months). I am hoping that will not be the case for me. I am just happy to see the scale, or, in my case, Wii go down. (I had my hubby hide the scale, and have felt much better since then. Even though I weigh myself every day or 3 I am no longer obsessesd with the number any more.) What a relief!!!
