Cottage Cheese Vs. Yogurt For Pre Op Diet
rebecca b replied to frumpy69's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Help!!!! Help me please!!!
Littleboo9 replied to Toriann94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I had surgery on Oct 9 and everyday feel nauseous. Two things have helped curve the nausea: hot tea and chicken broth. Water also helps. This week I started my blended diet and have tried plain yogurt and tofu. I loved protein shakes before surgery, but cannot stomach them at the moment. So while my diet is bland I feel less nausea over the course of the day. Best of luck. -
it is hard. no doubt about it. But by trying all the tricks you know to keep yourself occupied you can do it. Some things I found I could do, was make warm tea or a warm drink to sip on. Many times I sipped on chicken broth really diluted but warm. It seems to fill up the spaces. I don't know your diet your clinic put you on, but mine was cottage cheese and yogurt (unflavored) Yuk! Anyone else out there no some tips for zoltrix

NO Thyroid and Impact on Balloon's Efficacy on a Weight Loss
jansluv posted a topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
I am 10 days out since my balloon procedure and have lost nothing. ZERO. I am maintaining 1100 calories/day diet with protein at every meal. Eggs, shakes, fish, fruit, yogurt...is pretty much all I have eaten. I had my thyroid removed 2 years ago due to cancer and am wondering if the balloon has messed with my meds and have crashed my metabolism or something. Am having blood work done later this week to figure this out. Anyone else have no thyroid and the balloon? I would love to hear your story. -
...and I feel good. A bit sore, but no big deal. I was reading some posts here and now I'm wondering if my Protein shake has been too thick all along! I didn't realize there are "clear" Protein drinks, I just chose one that mixes well with Water and have used it since surgery. My surgeon says this is fine (it goes down with no problems), but I'm wondering if something like this could cause a SLIP? Does a SLIP happen as a result of eating something you should not? How does one know if they have a slip, is it obvious?? I have had some frozen yogurt, too, and am freaking out thinking I've caused harm to my band! :phanvan I feel really good though and realize I may be being paranoid! Kelli

I quite often eat yogurt for a meal! I have always loved yogurt, but since surgery I love it even more and I would say it's my favorite food now. Sometimes, it's all I want and I find it very satisfying! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

Questions about diet after surgery...
Healthier2day1227 replied to LessofApril's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are right on track. I don't eat refined carbs either. But I do get carbs from fruit and beans. I eat either Greek yogurt or a scrambled egg for breakfast. Lunch either chili, chicken soup or a chicken breast on top of greens. Dinner I eat what I make for the family but not the starch. So if I make them turkey burgers, for example, I just eat the patty and tomato. If I have an evening snack it is usually fruit or string cheese. I often supplement with a protein shake if I'm low. I average about 900-1100 cal per day, 90 G protein and 40 g carb. I've lost 130 pounds and am 6 pounds from my personal goal. -
I was sleeved on 12/21 and my schedule now is like this: Morning - 2 scarmbled eggs with 1 oz of shredded cheese One Premier Protein (11 oz) on the way to work 16 oz of Water at work, sip until lunch Lunch - Last several days it's been Shelly's Ricotta Bake as described above 16 oz Diet Snapple 16 oz water, sip until I get home dinner - Various, either chicken salad, refried Beans, tuna, egg salad, turkey salad 1 or 2 sugar-free popsicles, or maybe a Yoplait light yogurt (6 oz - Boston Cream Pie!) 16 oz water That puts me at just about 900 or so calories a day and I never feel hungry and it satisfies my liquid and protein requirements.

Low calories and protein during first post-op weeks
temkins posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow will be one week of VSG, feeling well so far. I feel no hunger at all, and simply force myself to put something into my stomach. I manage to meet my water goal of 64 oz/day, maybe even more (with a few sips of chicken broth every day). But I really fail to manage my protein goal - getting around 15g with my protein shake. I just can't force myself to drink more than 1/2 serving /day. I tried other protein supplements, but they are too sweet -- after the surgery all artificial sweeteners taste really bad. Once I'm allowed to go to the pureed phase, I think I'll be able to get some proteins through unsweetened real foods, like greek yogurts, meats or soups. But I still have to wait for about one more week. As a result, my current daily intake is about 200-250 cal. Is there any risks, like stalls or else, related to low calories? Could I keep my clear liquids diet for one more week without harming myself? -
I got my first fill last Wednesday and I did the same thing. I went to McDonalds that morning and got a hash brown which I had not had since being banded and a sandwich. I thought about getting something else to eat before getting filled but that didn't happen because I came to LBT that morning and read and realized what I was doing. Knowing what you are doing and why you are doing is half the battle and you know what and why. Be carefull after you get your fill ladies because you will have to do liquids for 2 to 3 days and then you have to remember how to eat like you have a band. I have not been able to eat the foods I was able to eat before my fill. I tried to eat a piece of meat (rib) and that hurt. I ate some broccoli and I felt my esophogus getting tight and I still put another piece of broccoli in my face and what did I do.....pb'd. Yesterday I tried again to eat mac and cheese and that didn't feel good sooooo with all that said I am back to my Protein shake, juice, Water and Soup. Oh yeah McDonalds plain sundae. It's yogurt and about 160 calories so it is a safe food for me that makes me happy. Listen to your body, chew, chew, chew, small bites, and eat slowlllyyyy after your fill.

Some Needed Input On The Mushy Stage
vzghj3 replied to RealSista85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Mushies Menu consists of Mashed Potatoes with low-fat gravy, cottage cheese, natural applesauce, baby foods, scrambled eggs, hot cereals, refried Beans & tuna and along with those I continue to include the Soups and yogurt. Thank goodness for the soup and yogurt, it made the full liquids very bearable and was not bad at all. Today was my first day for the Mushies and couldn't wait to wake up this morning to have some Eggs! dinner I was satisfied with the potatoes and gravy. I would also love any suggestions to add to this phase. Not sure about the rest of you, but after one week of pureed foods I move on to Soft foods for a week. Not quite sure what the difference is yet between the two. I'll meet with the Dietician on Monday to review. -
Had gastric bypass 8/20/ 15, slow revovery?
zackly posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had my surgery I week ago tomorrow. I went home after two nights in the hospital. Besides a little constipation I feel pretty good except all I want to do is lay around and sleep. I was hoping to get to the supermarket today but I was not feeling up to it. I'm off all the pain meds now (Oxycodone & Tylenol). I've been eating protein sakes & light yogurt but I'm really missing some real food like eggs or grilled cheese. What are the consequences of cheating with some Stage 3 pureed foods? Is it common to feel this weary one week post op? Thanks! -
What do you add to your chicken and tuna salads? I thought of adding sour creme? or maybe unflavored yogurt, then again the low fat mayo would probably be more to my liking. Do you add veggies to it..like onion, pickles, eggs?

Feeling a little frustrated today ......
Oregondaisy replied to Timetofly's topic in Food and Nutrition
I am a year out and this is the way I eat steak and chicken. For the most part, I don't cook, cause I live alone. So at home I drink a lot of Protein shakes, lunch meat, Protein Bars, greek yogurt, chicken or egg salad, and these are all soft foods. Dense foods like chicken or steak are things I eat when going out to dinner. Yes, I chew it up until it's just a mushy liquid in my mouth. If I don't,it's going to come back up. -
I've been hitting it most days. I'm 2 mos out also. Here's whay gets me to the number we need. Breakfast: protein bar 20 gm of protein. Morning snack: string cheese. Lunch: 2 oz chicken. Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt. Dinner: 2 oz chicken. Yes , I know I'm not getting any veggies yet but I can't meet every goal.... if I eat some veggies I can't get enough of the meat in so I have veggies some days not always. I think as time goes by we'll be able to fit more in.

Hardly eating
Drzthickness85 replied to Drzthickness85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much very helpful! I was at a point of regret to be honest! I mean after the surgery I understood the love I have for food! That now that I'm unable to have none I'm doubting myself! I even have recipes of my old time favorite foods that I have twek to a healthy way and I can't get it as why I can't enjoy my food now that I'm on solid. For example today I tired to have some fish sticks (3) with 11g of protein I made it into a gyro style spinach, thin sliced red onions, tomatoes and as the tarter sauce plain Greek yogurt with pickles! And I used 1/4 of a whole wheat wrap! Took 3 bits and 1 I was full, and 2 got the only cramping stomachache! Does it sound like I'm moving to fast in my foods? I just don't get it! -
I bought organic produce today and added some new things to my protein shake. I put the following in the blender 1 scoop of Market Pantry's chocolate whey protein shake 3 heaping tablespoons of fatfree vanilla yogurt 1/3 of a raw beet sliced 1/2 of a raw cucumber sliced 2 large strawberries 1 handful of blueberries ice It is very good. I deem it a success!

Hi Deets. For Breakfast I make 1 serving size cooked cream of wheat Cereal and use some of that and thin with skim milk - then while warm I add 1 scoop of unjury Protein Powder which is 20 grams of protein and use a small wisk to get it to a smooth consistency. I also use equal sweetner to taste. lunch is a cup of some type of broth or just get some broth from chix Soup at resturant and I add 1 scoop of Unjury protein powder and wisk well which equals 20 grams of protein. Then for I may add the 1 scoop of Unjury again later at nite to my bottle of Water but I always dissolve the powder in some warm water first and then add it to my cold water drink with a favorite flavor of crystal lite for example. That makes for my last 20 grams of protein. I know its trying to get all the protein and water requirements in in one day especially with such limited variety in the liquid diet list. I have been looking for some plain unsweeted yogurt to thin that - but so far haven't been able to find any most of the low fat artifically sweetend yogurt has fruit in it and on my plan it is not allowed. Hope this info helps. Diane.

I'm drinking two protein shakes a day and I've been eating chicken and eggs mostly sometimes I’ll have tuna. I'm only allowed to have 2 ounces of protein at a time. And in between meals I’m supposed to have fruit and yogurt.

I have a suggestion about the Isopure - don't buy a case, or even more, until you try them. I bought a case (12 bottles for $50.00 at GNC) and I cannot drink it. I drink the shakes... no problem.... liquids for weeks... no problem... but those things taste sooooo nasty to me. I forced 2 of them down, but going to see if they will take the rest back. Not everyone has the same taste buds, and I know lots of people drink Isopure, but just buy one or two until you see if you like them. I bought some unflavored whey protein powder at GNC, and it has 21 g. of protein in each scoop. I mix it with my yogurt and can't even taste it. I too think it is hard to get in so much protein when you aren't eating much food. Good luck to you!!! Becky

**Some bandsters seek a too-tight band, thinking it will help them lose weight quickly since they are limited to liquids. But that thinking may backfire because Bandsters Cannot Live On Liquids Forever. What happens when your band is too tight? You get Soft Calorie Syndrome. To avoid the pain which happens when you try to eat solid foods, you rely on foods that will slide through a too-tight band, just 'cause you are hungry. But Soft Calorie Syndrome and the foods that compose it will never provoke satiety. So you end up eating way too much, and perhaps even gaining weight. Ice cream, milkshakes, even soup and yogurts---all soft calories which don't promote a feeling of fullness.** i totally AGREE with this.......glad you feel better parr

One week Post op. lost 12 LBS!!!!!
slenderella replied to sheeanisland's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Congratulations on your upcoming banding. Every Dr. has a different diet for post op. Mine let me have any liquids, blended soups, yogurt drinks, juice. No pop, in fact I just plain quit drinking it! Applesauce and other blended fruits were ok, milkshakes or diet shakes were ok too. Good Luck, you'll love it!!! Nancy
