  1. Oh my goodness, I am crying and laughing at all of these!! And aren't these victories really the best? I know the scale has its own story to tell us, but it is life we should learn our lessons from. I can't wait to be able to add to this wonderful list! Three more weeks until surgery. Blessings to all of you, and I can only imagine how many more NSVs you have all had since this thread began!! Yahoo to You!!

    Lots of NSVs!

I too had a couple of NSV's today, first I crossed my legs while sitting down today too -awesome feeling! Secondly, when I was at the gym on the vertical lat press(I think that's what it is) I could push the handles down past my thunder thighs!! So happy about that cuz before I had to stop at the top of my thighs :-)

    Lots of NSVs!

Clothing NSVs are so encouraging! I have a hard time seeing the changes in the mirror so smaller clothing is very tangible proof. I go to put my jeans on and think those will never fit, but they do! Amazes me every time.

    Lots of NSVs!

Those are some FANTASTIC NSV's!!! Sounds like you are doing an great job along your journey! Congratulations & keep up the wonderful work!!! May you continue to be amazed & in awe of all your NSV's as you notice them because I honestly believe they are endless & those are only the beginning of many more to come! God bless you!
  5. As I posted before, my first NSV was my rings all fitting again. Now they are actually loose. And I am down two full pant sizes (loose). And every single shirt in my closet fits! I was down to just 3 nice shirts that I could squeeze into, so essentially my wardrobe has increased 10- fold! And last week while filling out paperwork in the gastroenterologist's office, I realized I was crossing my legs and writing with the clipboard resting on my knee! And I just ordered a seat shrinker adapter for my saddle because my butt is too small! And I have to go to a Chili Cookoff fund raiser tonight (I'm on the board of the local animal shelter) and I get to wear my nice boots because they now slide over my chubby calves, and my very fancy, embossed leather Cripple Creek jacket that I can now zip up over my boobs! Yeah!!

    NSV...

Went to pick my daughter up from Plague Vector School (daycare), where they've recently hired a new front desk lady and I haven't seen the school director in a while.... School director was walking out as I walked in, did a double take, and was all "oh my god LOOK AT YOU!!!" I know my shape is changing and I don't feel so squeezed into my clothes... I guess it shows too.

    help 4months

Think about why you had the surgery in the first place. That's your motivation. You've lost almost 2 lbs a week, and are 30 pounds closer to your goal than you were at Thanksgiving. Muscle is more dense than fat, so maybe your body is just changing. Don't get hung up on the numbers on the scale. In fact, don't even look at a scale for two weeks. Follow your diet, drink lots of Water, and go exercise. Track everything that passes through your lips. Search through these forums for NSV's (Non Scale Victories). Sometimes we get wrapped up in the numbers on the scale, and forget to look at little things, like pants feeling looser, or hugs that reach all the way around. Just my two cents... Hope it helps
  9. Hi all! I'm in my third week and on soft foods. Doing really well. I'm great with liquids, no problem at all. I'm learning (the hard way) my signal of when I'm full. I was distracted last night and took a few bites too many! BOY, I won't do that again!!! I HATE to throw up!! I actually spent 30 mins with the heart pounding and sliming talking my self out of throwing up. Lots of deep breaths! I've lost 25 lbs so far. I REFUSE to weigh everyday once a week is fine with me. My NSV is my wedding ring fitting!!! I haven't been able to wear it for years! It's still a little tight so I'm going to wait a bit before I begin to wear it all the time. I'm walking everyday. No pain just uncomfortable at the incision site where my stomach came out.

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

Hello February Friends, I was sleeved on 2/4/14. I'm also on soft foods and tolerating everything pretty well. I'm just a bit bored with no variety and trying to think of things to eat is tough. I do get hungry, but am satisfied pretty easily. I usually take in about 600 calories, very occassionally go up to 850 or so. Tuna, lunch meat, lite cheese sticks, scrambled eggs, turkey kielbasa, Soup, Protein shakes...that's about it. For a special treat, if I'm hungry at night I'll have 1-2 graham cracker sheets. Not sure if this is cheating or not. Otherwise, I don't have any carbs really. I've been walking, stationary bike and even tried 20 minutes of the Jillian Michaels Fat Burn workout - whoa!! NSVs - had to dig out some old clothes (luckily I have clothes in every size, so it will be a while before I have to shop!). My rings are fitting better. My face looks thinner. Exercise is getting easier! I had a long 2 week stall and like the other poster in this thread couldn't understand how that math works: taking in so few calories, exercising, working full time, taking care of 2 kids and not losing for more than 14 days. Sigh. But it's over and I'm back to losing 2-3 lbs a week or so. HW 283 Pre-op Diet 270 DOS 255 Current 237

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

I was sleeved on 2-18-14 am am currently on the soft food stage and am tolerating foods well so far, but still dealing with refux issues. Only complaint is the refux, never had it before surgery, but it is getting better now that i am taking meds daily for it. Other than some light walking, have not started exercising yet, NSV's: I have been able to get into some pants I have not been able to wear in over 5 years. Everyone is being supportive and very excited for my journey. HW 393. Back in 2008 Started journey weight 371 in June 2013 Started prep diet at 354 SW 340 CW 322 I am down 49 lbs total since June, 32 since starting the preop diet, and 18 since surgery. I weigh once a week on Mondays, so maybe I'm down a little more, hopefully but just got my visitor for the first time in over a year. Uggg. So not sure how that's going to change things

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

I was February 19. So it was 3 weeks out yesterday. I'm in the soft food stage. So soft fish, shrimp, tuna, canned chicken, lunch meat, etc. I have yet to find a food on my list that disagrees with my new tummy. With this stage I'm finally able to get my Proteins in. I'm also obsessed with minute maid light lemonade. Since I bought it, I've been able to get my fluids in finally as well. Only complaint is the biggest incision on my left side still hurts. A lot. Like, I still take pain meds for it often. I've asked my doc if it's normal, and apparently it is, unfortunately. Haven't started exercising yet. I have to call tomorrow to make any appointment with the physiologist. My NSV would be that my jacket doesn't feel like it's mine, cause its big. And my clothes feel bigger. I can walk up two flights of stairs at school without getting winded. And all the compliments I've gotten, mostly from my pcp who I haven't seen since a bit before surgery. All my friends and family are so supportive and happy for me, it's awesome. I'm down 37 lbs in 5 weeks, and I couldn't be happier. It's absolutely amazing, and I'm so glad I made this choice. All the healthy foods I've had the last few days have all tasted good, and I actually crave them, and not the shitty foods. It's amazing how it seems that the switch has been flipped in my brain.

    Goals

Thank you for the advice. When I went into this, I was much more focused on my NSVs but my attention has slowly been turning to the scale. I do have a list of NSVs which I know I need to focus more on. One of my first is to go zip lining this summer and maybe even white water rafting.
  16. Great to hear! Keep up the good work! I am 5 1/2 weeks out and am on soft foods. So far everything I have eaten has gone done well, so I am excited about that! I have been walking and just starting doing some squats and arm circles every day this week, nothing major but hoping to work my way up to more intense exercise in the next few weeks. My only complaint is the infrequent BM's (sorry tmi) but I think they cause my weight loss to stall and make me feel uncomfortable. I think I am going to try some gummy benefiber. As for NSV, my wedding ring fits again!!! Woohoo, I have not been able to wear it for at least 5 years and my clothes are big, I needed a belt with my work pants, which I haven't needed in forever and when I did but it on, I needed the last hole, so that was great! Friends and family are super supportive and happy for me, co workers are starting to notice my weight loss too. 20lbs since surgery 30lbs total Also wanted to ask what is your go to meal/snack right now? Mine is iced decaf coffee with a scoop of vanilla unjury protien powder, very good!

    Goals

I would caution everyone to measuring your success by the number on the scale, and setting your goals based on numbers. I am 1.5 out from surgery and have been on the boards for the entire time. I have read so many posts about people getting really discouraged because they did not hit that number on the scale. While the numbers are a big part of this journey - try to set goals that are non scale victories. For example my first NSV was eliminating a certain medication I am on. I have reduced it, but have not gotten rid of it. I sat down and made a list of the things I wanted to achieve after surgery, and I am much happier than when I stared at the scale willing it to go down another 2 pounds. Congrats on the reaching the goals you have set for the scales!!
  18. I was sleeved on Feb. 3rd and was just wondering how everyone else was doing? How far out are you? What food stage are you in? How are you tolerating food and liquids? Any complaints? Have you been able to start exercise? Any NSV yet? How are family and friends reacting to the new you? I'm just curious and really hope everyone is doing well!
  19. I brought cinnamon buns to our morning meeting where we met our new manager for the first time. She looked at me and said "You're such a little thing! It's always the little ones who bring the food!" Lol If she only knew...

Surgery scheduled but family unsupportive need help

About the only thing that happens out of your horror list is some loss of hair. It is usually just for a few months and then it grows back. This is true for a majority of people given they follow the basics as instructed by their doctor after discharge. Now it is time for you to give your family a list of all the blessings and NSV after NSV that occur as a result of having the procedure done. I think they will have your attention and you will have their support after doing this.

While I don't like real fur items, I have to admit it is a pretty special NSV!

    NSV shout outs

Ok, I've had many of the NSV mentioned being almost at my year mark but recently I had to purchase new bras and I just ordered the same style but the smaller size. Well, when I got them I discovered they were 2 clips on the back! I've not been in a 2 clip bra since my mid teens!!!! Gone are the days of 4 hooks being necessary to help hold the girls (and the fat). Yay for me! :-)

    NSV shout outs

New to NSV because I've only just recently had some. Almost 6 months post op and I bought a Large sized shirt. Used to be 3XL, then 2XL, then XL, but a Large? crazy,
  24. I'm two weeks out today and went shopping for a few hours and I feel like I could drop any minute now:( I'm so tired and so winded. I know if I don't push myself that I won't get stronger, but I also have to listen to my body, lesson learned. Some good news is that I noticed just some slight changes...(can we say NSVs:) I THINK my lower back doesn't hurt anymore, could this really be??? Also, my posture has shifted a bit, I think it's because of the belly fat loss so far. One more thing, I can now sleep on my side and I love it. These are itsy bitsy NSVs so I can't wait for the major ones.
