YES!!!! I thought we were going to lose the hunger pains. I am also VERY tired because I fell like I am getting very little protein. I just can't get thru a whole shake so I try to split it up in the day, but that gives me only 30 g. I have been doing popsicles for something different. I tried jello yesterday and it was great but only 10 cal and no nutritional value. I know we are supposed to let the stomach heal but I have a week to go and just cannot even imagine another week of this!

Oh my gosh I just started getting the same issue...every time I eat something, about 5-10 minutes later, I get lower abdominal gas...the kind you get sometimes before diarrhea. But then it just goes away after about 5-10 minutes. Plus I think I'm intolerant to the whey protein in supplements so I just ordered an egg protein based supplement because I'm definitely not getting enough protein. Oh and I'm on the same post-op diet as you. They had me on full liquids for 7 days after I went home, then on pureed for 7 days and now I'm in the soft food stage and it should be much easier but this stage is where all the intestinal distress has come into play so I'm going to try and switch up what I'm eating...lean away from the yogurt and cottage cheese and canned chicken and try some flaky fish, more soups and some soft cheese.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Hi everyone my surgery was 5/19/2021 revision of the sleeve-I am 2 month and
  4. I am hoping ins approves the revision from sleeve to bypass. I have severe GERD and also a hiatal hernia. When I had the endoscopy done in Nov 2019 there was also a stricture and ulcer. The prescription PPI worked until it didn't, he upped it to twice a day and it worked until 3 months ago. Now I'm back to needing Tums as well as the prescription almost daily. I like your post. I only have a regain of 35 lbs, so losing that would just be the icing on the cake. If I can get rid of the reflux I'll be so happy. I can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life! Tell me, what things can you eat that you couldn't after sleeve surgery and what about dumping. The bariatric surgeon I met with last week said they consider it a good side effect to help patients know what to be careful of or avoid altogether. Good luck!!!
  5. My first appointment for severe reflux after my 2010 VSG was last week. He recommended RNY, I had a endoscopy in Nov 2019. The gastrologist put me on a prescription PPI. It worked, I went from 8 - 10 Tums a day, EVERY day, to none. That lasted for two months then it started coming back. Dr had me up the dose to twice a day. That worked until three months ago. I'm back to needing to eat Tums almost daily. There's no rhyme or reason, I've cut back or out anything that I see recommended online, but the reflux bothers me after things that absolutely should not bother me, and it isn't consistent. Sometimes something will really get me, but the next time it won't, and vice versa. I hope the insurance will approve this. I was self pay with VSG, I can't do that again. This is medically necessary, so many it won't be turned down. Good luck!!! Keep us posted.

Checking in from my 6/11 surgery. After about 10 days off from work I’m headed back for at least partial days. I still get pretty wiped at the end of the day, so, I’m happy I’m still working from home and don’t have to worry about a commute. Recovery has been going well. I finally have my calories up around 600. Never thought it would be so hard to figure out how to consume that few calories. They want me to aim for 600-800 for the first two months. I’m on liquids until 7/12, so, my days consist of a couple shakes, a greek yogurt with protein powder split across two snacks and 6 ozs of campbells healthy request cream of chicken. Water hasn’t been an issue and I’ve been getting out for a slow walk daily.
  7. Hi guys I had surgery june 10th and my doctor's office never told me to take 2 weeks off. I rested for 10 days and i started to worl again today, but besides that i've had a lot of bloating.i look like i am pregnant tbh. My job its in a office but i do get up constantly to go to the printer. Everything else its just a bit of walk or signing documents. I am still on liquid and i was wondering if foods high on sodium produce bloating??? I feel like i came to work too soon. Sent from my LM-Q720 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Three week stall?

33 Days out from surgery and yes, I got down to like 16 lbs gone around the 2 week mark then nothing for like 12 days then I went down a few more for a total of 19 and now nothing again all this past week. It's frustrating. Especially when you know you're sticking to the plan and nothing is happening. But, ya gotta keep going I guess and hope things eventually move.

    Poop talk

Healthy Life Style, any updates? Usually no news is good news. I’m 10 months out and super struggle with constipation and anal fissures. I take one capful of miralax nightly and that has helped but if I slack on my water, eat extra salty that day or even get a sunburn I’m right back to straining and bleeding. Such a delicate balance 😬😔

    Exercise

I highly recommend Leslie Sansone videos on YouTube for cardio. There are tons of free videos available and they're great. I do these every day. There's something for everyone, from beginners to advanced, and the videos vary in length from about 10 minutes to 50 minutes (I often do two or three shorter ones back-to-back just to mix it up). I use resistance bands for strength training. You can get a decent set for about $50 and there are free videos on YouTube for that, too.
  12. I am 11 months post op gastric sleeve. My highest weight ever was reached in June of 2019 and I was horrified to weigh in at 502 lbs! I didn't believe it and requested the doctor to re-weigh me. That was my first wake-up call. I was suffering from very high blood pressure, debilitating back pain/spasms, knee pain and damage, sciatica, and sleep apnea. I started doing keto and got down to 415lbs. During COVID quarantine, I gained back up to about 459lbs. In July of 2020, I finally decided to take back my life and financed a vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery (out of pocket, since insurance would not cover it). As of yesterday, I'm down to 275 lbs. I have gone from a 6xl shirt to a 2xl. From size 62 pants, to a size 44. I still struggle to see myself as anything but fat from time to time, but it's the Non-Scale Victories (NSVs) that keep me going! My only regret is not doing this sooner. Sometimes I wish I could go back and re-do certain life experiences without the extreme morbid obesity. Here's my running list: - I’m off of all medications (including 2 BP meds). - No more seat belt extension on airplanes - Seats with arm rests are no problem. - Restaurant booths are now no problem - I can fit in an MRI machine (if needed). - I can now walk ANYWHERE without debilitating back pain. - The car steering wheel no longer rubs my stomach. - I can shop in most “regular” stores for clothes. - I no longer worry about a seat being able to hold me (those plastic white ones at weddings are even ok now). - I can use my own step ladder to do things around the house like change a light bulb. - I can sit with my legs crossed. - I can now get down on the floor. - My “love life” has drastically changed/Improved. - too many to list! Notice there is a lot of use of the word “CAN” here? All in less than a year. The little black battery operated box on the floor cannot control me any longer! Yea, it’s still important. But weight is no longer the defining characteristic of my life. Sleeved 7/23/20. HW 502, SW 459, CW 275, GW healthy
  13. Just thought I'd post about how this process has gone for me over the past "almost" year as today I crossed a big milestone (at least big to me). 198.8 - which when I think about it - I haven't been this weight since 2007 when I was doing weight watchers and had lost 40lbs. I think back over this past year it's still a little surreal. At this time last year, I was finishing up my insurance pre-reqs of meeting with a nutritionist and therapist for 6 months. I had already started to transition my diet to two protein shakes for breakfast and lunch to prep for my pre-surgical diet. I was nervous, scared and not 100% sure that I wanted to go through with bypass but also beginning to realize that I couldn't lose the weight on my own or I would have already. My surgery was at the end of August and the two weeks of fluids before hand was really hard, but honestly - I was really proud of myself for doing it and grinding through what I couldn't imagine doing before. Those two weeks, to me, helped to set me up for what I could expect after surgery. The day of surgery I almost told my husband to drive me back home. It was my first time anywhere since COVID hit and that alone was kind of terrifying to me. I remember being wheeled back to surgery and the anesthesiologist talking to me and asking me if I was excited. My response, "No. I'm terrified." But he gave my hand a squeeze and kept reassuring me that it was going to be ok and the team was great. Once I got in the surgical room it seemed to have the same kind of vibe - the team was more excited for me than I was. I just don't think I could get my head wrapped around this procedure working. That I would lose weight and that my life would change. I think it all still felt very unreal - even as they put me to sleep. Recovery - overall wasn't the most awful thing but it wasn't great. I ended up in the ER a couple days later due to dehydration. What helped me the most was an abdominal binder that they gave me when I left the hospital. I left this on for about three weeks until things stopped feeling like they were shifting or pulling. While the pain wasn't too unbearable, the reality that drinking, eating and for a short time peeing was a chore. Trying to get enough fluids was hard. Drinking the amount of protein I needed to afterwards was impossible for me. I had to measure out 3oz and a time and set timers throughout the day to help me remember no to drink water for a half hour before and a half hour after. Once I started solid foods it was also difficult for me. Trying to figure out what I was ok to eat (that didn't completely turn my stomach) and learning that crab, tuna, salmon would be my go to food for awhile. Adding in cheeses, eventually chicken and turkey on top of the protein shakes I was still doing. After three months things started to get a little easier for me, my check up with the Nutritionist went well although she wanted me to get my calories way up. So I started to incorporate things with more fat into my diet. Nuts, peanut butter, avocado were just a few things that I started to try. I think it was around this point where I realized, ok... this is starting to work. I was seeing weight come off and while food was a struggle I was walking around the block and having an easier time of it. My breathing was easier, sitting on the couch was easier, my back was hurting less, my clothes were starting to fit better. As time went on I continued to add things to my diet, fruit, veggies, and eventually some carbs. Were there things that did not agree with me, absolutely, but I learned from trying them and adjusted my diet. I waited to buy clothes until about two months ago. I had to go into the store to try on pants because I had no idea what size I was. I fit into a 16 and 14... which blew my mind. At my highest I was a size 24 and even that was tight. I've since ordered a bunch of new things which also helps me to see the difference in weight. Things I still struggle with - drinking enough water. Losing hair - I still have a good amount but had a 2 month stint where I lost a lot. I still am freaking out when I see more than 10 hairs coming out on the brush but I have a ton of new baby hair growing back in. Making sure I'm focusing on eating enough protein and not drinking with meals. Going to the bathroom - it's either all or nothing for me. 😂 I usually weigh in after I go though - seems like a solid strategy in my mind. The things that worked for me: ProCare Health Bariatric multivitamins with Iron (1/day). Their sea salt caramel calcium chews (2.5/day). Biotin gummies - no idea if they helped but considering that I didn't lose soooo much hair I'm just going to keep taking them. And if you're still with me - A big thanks to everyone who posted on here before my surgery. I was definitely a lurker but your stories helped to prepare me and give me confidence as I went through this myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now on to celebrate being in ONDERLAND again and I'd still like to lose another 30-40lbs - which I know the surgery won't get me there for the full amount (at least from my doctor's perspective) but I'm going to keep working at it and chipping away to see where I end up.

I had my surgery on June 17. Just trying to get my protein in . I start my full liquid tomorrow. The pain is like a 3 from a scale of 1-10. I only have a little bit of gas . What did u all drink during full liquids? Are we able to have any soup as long as it’s blended and strained?

    Presentation!

Hello, gals! I'm Bia, from Brazil! Teacher, PhD student, I'm 34 years old and had the surgery about 14 years ago. I was 160 quilograms, I'm with about 110 quilograms now, 1.80 meter. Not sure if I converted right, but is something I'm 5"10 inches, had 352,74 pounds when I had the surgery, today I'm 242 pounds but my """""normal"""" is about 198. At the time of the surgery I was too young, and I really forget, most of the time, that my body functioning is different. So, I had some predicted or possible issues after the surgery... Someone else with more time of surgery or developed some issues so we can talk about? Or, if someone want to ask or chat about anything else about it....I'm here. Hope that we can help each other! Thank you very much!
  18. Hello, everyone, first of all I'd like to say I'm from Brazil, so please, if I make some mistakes, overlook them or you may correct me. I underwent gastric bypass surgery on May 19th this year, it's been only one month. I have no energy, no motivation, my mood is terrible. I start a (semi-)solid diet which includes ground meat, rice, bread, light cheese, but I don't want to eat any of these foods, actually, it's been 10 days since I've been ingesting barely anything. I don't feel like eating, I'm tired of eating what I don't want to eat. I'm craving pizza, burger, especially, chocolate, not lots of it, but I asked my nutritionist if I could eat one Lindt truffle, which weighs only 0.42 ounces, twice a week and she said no. I can only eat a healthy chocolate truffle that she prescribed me, which tastes awful. I don't feel like eating because everything I eat is not pleasant at all. I also need to have so much protein and protein shakes every day, I'm tired of the sweet taste of whey protein, protein yogurt, protein smoothies, fruit smoothies. I told my nutritionist that I can't eat anymore, but she insisted that I must eat, even though I keep skipping meals otherwise I will certainly throw up. I pretty much regret undergoing surgery, I felt pleased when I could eat, now I feel no pleasure. Even my antidepressants what I've been taking for years are not helping, not to mention that my psychiatrist has increased the dose of them. I feel more depressed than before surgery. I don't want to work, study, I just want to stay in bed all day long and skip meals. Does anyone have a testimonial to share? Does it get better? Will I ever be able to eat chocolate, burger, pizza again, just a little bit? Thank you.

    June Surgeries

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I have not told anybody about it. Im just so afraid if this does not work long term. Surgery recovery has been surprisingly “easy” so far but i know Im not done yet!!! One day at a time. But so far so good. For the last 10 years nearly every Month I was starting another diet. I dont even recognize myself in the mirror. This really is my last shot at changing long term health. I’m an empty nester and I'm committed to this change! 2 general questions: how long are you wearing the compression stockings? how long are you using the breathing machine? My doctor gave one to me but really did not explain it. (Ive called them and I'm waiting for a call back)

    Having a hard day today...

I had a bad day yesterday and I feel much better today. I am 10 days post and think we will continue to have good and bad days until we get used to all of this. We will get through this together. I am glad I found my bariatric family so we can support each other. Sent from LadySunshyne using BariatricPal mobile app

    Artificial sweeteners

I am 10 days post and I am unable to tolerate anything sweet the protein shakes, sf Jell-O, sf pudding anything with artificial sweeteners. I had blended sreamed sweet potatoes with blended unsweetened peaches and it went really good. Drink lemon water. Going to try unsweetened protein powder in soup so I can reach goal. Might also try adding skim milk to shake or make my own. Sent from LadySunshyne using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre op with a baby

I have surgery scheduled for this Monday and have an 18 month old. I asked my sister to come for two weeks while I recover. I’m also planning to stay in a hotel for 2 nights right after surgery so I can rest and focus on healing. I hope you have some help for a few days as you aren’t able to lift anything over 10 lbs.

    Pre op with a baby

While I haven’t cared for a baby while recovering, I’m not able to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for several weeks post-op (and your incisions will let you know if you move wrong, even sneeze). You’ll also have low energy for a while but it’s manageable for most. My advice is if you have an offer of help with the baby, take it. Good luck!

    Nicotine test

I bought nicotine tests for home, and by day 10 or so, I was clear. I vape heavily for many years. I read that if you stop vaping to 4 days before the test, you'll clear it since the typical test isn't as sensitive. Hope this helps.
  25. My original surgery was 8/22/2006 and I had the RNY. Starting weight was 287 and I got down to 139 in about 14 months. I turned into a counting calorie and workout machine. I kept my weight off for the last 11 years and then BOOM my thyroid died. After a trip to the Mayo clinic in FL and seeing the top endo in the field I am now on an encapsulated pill but it just barely sustains the actual thyroid function. I started regaining weight about 4 years ago - mostly due to the thyroid issues but have to take personal responsibility for bad choices as well. I gained 87 pounds over the last 4 years even with counting calories and working out. When I say working out I was riding a bike 10-15 miles a night, hiking mountains (The Adirondacks in Upstate NY) running, weight lifting. I just couldn't get it under control anymore. I went back to my original surgeon who basically told me there was nothing he could do so I reached out to my primary and he sent a referral to another surgeon who did revisions. I started my new journey on July 17th 2020. I still had to jump through the 6 months of hoops, and lose 5% of my weight to qualify for an endoscopic revision (tightening of the pouch). My appointment was on January 8 2021 but on January 4 2021 our hospitals closed for the 2nd time due to Covid! I finally had my revision on March 8, 2021. Day of surgery weight was 214. I had to do the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery and then follow all of the post op diets after surgery. Well today is June 16, 2021 ( 96 days post op) and I am down to 170 pounds. I was told that endoscopic revision surgery weight loss is usually between 20-25 pounds and the rest is up to me. Well I am at a loss of 44 pounds now. I still count all of my calories and walk everyday on my lunch break, take my dogs for a walk at night or get on the treadmill, hike mountains on the weekends and have just started weight training again. I am determined to reach my goal of 140 pounds. I take this 2nd chance very serious. So to all out there....there is hope - keeping pushing - keep moving forward. Life will get in the way but if this is what you want then you have to make the hard choices. For example: between the beginning of April 2021 and May 2021 (1 short month) we lost 1 of our dogs, my niece who was only 27 passed away and my best friend's son who was 24 passed away. I buried my niece on a Saturday and my friends son that Monday. I could have given into food and ate my emotions but I didn't because I cannot make excuses as to what I put in my mouth. I am in control of that. I hope you have enjoyed my story.
