    Liquids with food

Me too. One day this week my food would not shift and 3 hours later I was so thirsty. I drank. I ended up with the foamies, then I was fine

    Sleeping help

I had that problem during the second week after my surgery. I was just wide awake all night. I developed such bad RLS (restless leg syndrome) that I was already feeling it in my arms. It was horrible. When I talked to the PA at my doc's office he said to start taking extra B12. I told him that maybe it was the Famotidine (Pepcid) I was told to take at bedtime that was causing it. I asked him if I could take it early in the morning and he said whatever worked for me. I also read that melatonin was the best solution for insomnia in bariatric patients. When I started taking 24mg of melatonin at night, taking the Famotidine and extra B12 in the morning, I started sleeping through the night. Of course, it's ALWAYS best to check with your doctor. My personal experience is not medical advice.

    Liquids with food

With the sleeve, the 30/30 rule between fluids and solids is so that you do not fill up too quickly without getting in all of your nutrition. With the bypass, it's for that reason, but also so that the water doesn't push the food through the bowels too quickly causing dumping syndrome. Admittedly, eating soon after drinking is much easier than drinking after eating. What I ended up doing when I would go out was have my alcoholic drink and then eat. I also went from mixed drinks full of juice, soda, ice to just 1 or 2 straight shots of silver tequila or vodka. It kinda helped because I'd have my shots, feel my buzz, enjoy the company, and then eat (which would kill my buzz). It kinda worked out except that it got way too easy, and I started preferring drinking to eating. My meal wound end up being may be three bites/forkfuls of food because my sleeve was full of fluid (alcohol). But even if it'd been water, I still wasn't getting everything in like I was supposed to.

    Restriction

I personally never had it past week 4, and what little I had was barely there. Most people notice it after they start solids. I didn't. I had my revision to bypass on the 28th and I'm on week 3 foods and feel no restriction. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

    So so angry!!!!!

So as you all know, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on June 28th because of severe gerd, esophagitis, gastritis, and a ton of pre-cancerous polyps all through my stomach. I was put on 80mg of Nexium daily and still had a lot of pain and break through gerd issues. After the revision, the PPI was lowered to 40mg daily for 2 weeks and then on weeks 3 and 4, go to 40mg every other day and then completely stop at the beginning of week 5. Well here I am, doing the evry other day, and I had horrible gerd today!!! My throat was burning, my esophagus felt like I had acid in it, and I was MISERABLE. I had to take a Nexium (today was a day not to take it) and follow it up an hour later with a Pepcid before it went away. WTH????? I never ever had heartburn or gerd before the sleeve. Got the revision because it was supposed to fix it, and here I am, still dealing with it!!!!!!! I'm so over this. I'm not eating anything bad, following my diet to the letter, and I can't catch a break.
  8. I’m about 10 weeks post surgery. At what point can you drink liquids with food? With the summer being here, after I come back for a walk, I’d like to drink some water and heat up dinner. Pretty frustrating I have to wait 30-45 minutes before I can eat and it’s already a long work day.
  9. Plans are all so different! I was given no guidelines at all about post op eating other than sticking to the stages texture wise. Nobody ever suggested any calorie intake in particular. I asked people here! I think that at 8 weeks I was probably at 700-800 calories daily. I remember I used to eat some nut butter at bedtime if I can't reached something close to that. I agree with the others that protein and fluids goals are still the most important thing.

Calories for Phase 5 or 8 weeks PO

My dietician gave me this info .... for the general diet ( about 8 weeks out ) " Aim for 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day and between 60 - 80 grams of protein. Max= 12 oz. per meal "

    Food Aversions After Surgery

I couldn't tolerate sweet things for the first few months - like sweet protein shakes (I drank a lot of Unjury chicken broth shakes). And I couldn't eat bananas for like three years - too sweet.

Calories for Phase 5 or 8 weeks PO

At 8 weeks I was at about 800 calories per day. I went mostly on my restriction and making sure to make good food choices. That equated to about 5 to 7 ounces per meal depending on the texture. Most of my calories came from protein. My team didn’t give a calorie goal but instead advised what I outlined above. I am now at four months, and have added in more exercise, and therefore more calories. I have slowly added in carbs while watching my blood sugar levels as well to balance my diet. Looking towards maintenance, I was told to balance calories and activity to maintain weight…all while making good food choices.
  13. I'm also wondering. I'm 4 weeks post-op. Everything I've read, however, says that in the first 2-3 months it should be anywhere between 300-600 cal. I've set my limit at 500 (which includes 75 cal and 21 carbs from vitamins) because I'm eating solids now and those tuna, chicken, and beef servings are pretty high in cal even though I don't exceed 1/2 cup servings of anything. I'm a revision sleeve to bypass. I use Baritastic to document my cal, protein, carbs, fat, calcium, and H2O. I don't have another appointment until July 24th. Every doctor, though, has different opinions about our nutrition. Your best bet would be to contact the doc's office and just ask. I should probably do the same, lol!

    Emergency contraceptive

First, you must be so freaked out right now. Deeeeep breaths! I have three beautiful kids as well so I know how you feel. From what I understand, pills such as these should work just fine. They break down in your stomach, yes, but also in your digestive tract. So your body will absorb it just fine. The hormone in the morning after pill will function as intended. Only “XR” tablets (extended release) can have issues so I don’t think you have anything to worry about. 😊

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Man, I'm just going into my 4th week and eating mashed potatoes and started with tuna and I'm reading that y'all are eating green beans, carrots, shredded cheese, and pasta?! I'm jealous... lol I ate a spoonful of sauce and cheese from the lasagna that my family is having for dinner and felt guilty.. lol

    Favorite Foods/Shakes/Recipes

There's a reason Shelly's Baked Ricotta is the most popular soft food recipe in the WLS community. It's basically lasagna minus the pasta and it is amazing after weeks of protein shakes and sugar-free jello. Pro tip: divide the recipe into 8 ramekins or small glass dishes before baking. https://www.food.com/recipe/shellys-baked-ricotta-324036

    Depressed before surgery

Thank you!! Yes I did not go to that restaurant i was invited to at comic con, my fiance and I went to benihanas instead and I am so proud of myself for just eating steak and veggies and saying no to that rice! Yes I am now doing private therapy once a week and joined a binge eating support group and life after bariatric surgery support group. In the literal week I've been in therapy I've learned a lot about myself already and family patterns etc. It's amazing what a difference it makes! I really haven't told anyone I'm getting WLS except for my sister and two close friends. We told my fiances family the first time I considered getting it and they were scaring my fiance and me telling us about this person who know this person who had complications and this lady who can "spiritually" heal me from overeating instead of surgery (Hispanic small town problems lol) and I didn't end up doing it. So now we will tell them when I'm out of surgery, I don't need any negative opinions, this is my journey and no one else's!
  20. I had to take the morning after pill last weekend, but I have just woken in a panic after the thought occurred to me that it may not be effective after bypass? My husband and I already have 3 children and our family is complete with my baby child only being 9m old, I just want to know if anyone else has found them selves in a similar situation and the pill has been effective? My surgical office is closed untill Tuesday this week so I can't just call to ask.

    Favorite Foods/Shakes/Recipes

I just discovered cake batter! Good stuff! Vanilla and caramel are my other favorite flavors. Scrambles eggs, cottage cheese and regular cheese were my friend in the initial weeks after surgery. Some people make ricotta bake, which you'll have to Google because I never made it.
  22. it probably varies. I think it was about two weeks for me.
  23. I started sleeping on my stomach again around 4 days post-op. My neck and back were so messed up from sleeping upright and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I had to turn a little slower at first, but no worries at all now (two weeks post-op).
  24. 1-3 weeks is pretty common for a stall - but a month is not unheard of. You're only 11 days into it - so it's not an issue yet.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I had soft green beans and carrots, it was so good. Had anybody thought about the Lego buns, keto hot dogs or Leto street tacos? I’ve had the street tacos and it was so good. I’m in the beginning of my 5th week.
