    NSV

It's been a long time since I have bought new clothes besides the usual jeans, t-shirts, stretchy pants and shorts because the last time I tried to get something nice to wear to go out, I ended up staying home because everything looked so horrible on me. You see I'm a true lover of fashion and all that goes with it or as my mother used to tell me a real clothes horse! I have so many clothes that broke the rods in 2 closets, have rolling racks, clothes in boxes and enough shoes to open a boutique! At one point after a huge weight loss (gain almost all of it back or I wouldn't be here) I loved clothes so much, I went to work in a high end clothing store just so I could get the discount and I love to dress people! Sad, isn't it? Well anyway, I ordered a couple of dresses since I am schedule for some orthopedic surgery and I wanted something that was easy on, easy off for the hospital. I took a guess at the size and prayed that they would arrive in time not be too small. Guess what? They did come in time and they were TOO BIG!!! Not only that, but the one I really liked look pretty good one me! I quickly ordered a smaller size of the one I liked and now as I sit here I am thinking I probably should have ordered it 2 sizes smaller than just 1. It may not arrive in time for my surgery date and it too may be too big (I kind of hope so), but guess what? I'm so happy about it, I don't care!

    Never thought this would happen...

I looove to hear NSV's like this! Fitting in smaller sizes was way more exciting to me than any number on the scale (except for Onederland... of course). Thanks for sharing!! Keep up the excellent work - and have fun with the zumba!

    Nsv - Incomplete :(

For 20 years I have dreamed of being fit and healthy enough to participate in the Great Victorian Bike Ride, an eight day ride of almost 600km in my home state of Victoria. This year, 18 months after getting my lapband and losing 63kg, my husband and I set off from Lakes Entrance on our first ever Great Vic. First two days of riding were fantastic. The whole event was living up to my expectations with the riding, the camaraderie, camping and spending time with my husband. Day three dawned bright and sunny and we were on the road nice and early out of Briagalong. Morning tea stop in our former town of Maffra and then two and a half km down the road, disaster struck! I crashed out big time over the handlebars and onto the road. I was in agony, convinced that I had broken my leg! An hour later I was in an ambulance, six hours later I was finally released from the ER with a puncture wound and severe haematoma to my upper right thigh, along with a collection of bruises, scrapes etc that have developed quite colorfully over the days since. Yesterday, still on the camp for the ride, I decided to give it another go but wasn't even able to pedal. The physiotherapist then confirmed that i would not be able to complete the ride. I was devastated that I have not completed my dream or my NSV but am going to support my husband right through to the end on Sunday. And next year, I WILL complete my NSV and finish the Great Vic!

    Nsv For Me!

Last night I had errands to run after work, between that and rainstorms, I ran too late to go to the gym. By the time I got home, I was CRANKY. I grumped around the house, put on my workout clothes, decided against the Wii because I would have had to move the sofa with husband attached to it, tried the mini trampoline that made my back hurt, and finally grabbed a dog leash and dog and went for a brisk walk in the drizzle. Did about a 2.5 mile walk around the neighborhood and tried to let my mind clear a little. On the way back up the street, I had an epiphany. I just walked over two miles at a fast pace, and I was not sweating, gasping, limping or being dragged by my dog. It blew my mind a little. In mid-February I had to be wheeled through airports because of my back injury, weight and general bad condition. Oh. My. Freaking. Gosh. Needless to say, my bad mood disappeared instantly. I love Me 2.0, and can't wait to see what the next upgrade will bring!

    Humiliated.......

Big hugs!!! Boy oh boy can I relate about the plane!! Ive traveled internationally since Jan 06 --Ive been overweight longer then this -- but from 2006 til 2008 I traveled alone so I was always seated next to strangers. International airlines arent always very nice about big people traveling. I always have to ask for a seat belt extender, Ive never been able to buckle one. It is so embarassing. I ask as soon as I get on the plane, as I am walking to my seat. Ive sat next to some pretty rude people, but I just apologized for crowding them. Thankfully in 2011 and this year I have had my girlfriend and 4yr old son to travel with me so usually its us 3 in a row together so the only people I am crowding dont mind. It still sucks so bad to crowd anyone, need a seat belt extender, and not be able to use my tray table I cant wait to have those nsv's! All this will be in the past very soon! Hang in there!!!

    I Finally Bought Some Clothes!

Wonderful NSV!! You will find so much variety in sizes 14 and lower. Good luck keeping money in the bank!
  10. I went to eat dinner with the family after church for my son's birthday and they seated us in the dreaded booth! I squeezed myself in there the best way I could and just sat there thinking that much longer this won't be an issue . I might as well go ahead and share my most modifying moment of being obese while I'm at it. We went to an amusement park and I got on the ride. I kid you not, I had 1 of the workers in the front coaching me to "suck it in" while 2 other workers was in the back holding on to the seat as support. I was so embarrassed and not only that but I was uncomfortable the whole time the ride was going from not being able to breath and having my mid section stuffed in that ride. I won't know how to act when I am able to get in a ride and not worry about embarrassing myself or my family. Those are just a couple of NSV's I'm looking forward to!! Not sure what compelled me to share this but maybe some of you can relate...
  11. Journey, it sounds like you are doing everything the doctors told me to do after surgery. Don't forget that you had MAJOR surgery and it takes sometime for your body to recover from that sort of trauma and you are in healing mode. The weight will come off, just be patient... I know it's hard but, just stick to your doctor's plan and you'll see changes. Did you take measurements before surgery so you can compare at 1 month post-op, I didn't see much weight during my 1st month post-op but lost over 10 inches and it made for a great NSV.

    Start dieting before surgery?

You didn't say how close you are to your surgery date? But 2 things I would start doing right now, to make things easier. 1) Up your Protein to carbs ratio - shoot for 75% of your calories from lean protein sources - chicken, pork loin, turkey, 93% lean hamburger. And add more vegetables to your diet - broccoli, califlower, brussel sprouts.... you get the idea. :-) 2) Start a walking program. If you are like me, I had lots of pain in my feet and knees. I had to start gradually (as in, I started parking at the far end of the parking lot each time I went to the store or work) I started out walking 4 laps around the interior of my office each morning and worked my way up. Hope these tips help, Keep taking small important steps, they will all add up to bigger success. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blogs/entry/31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/

I can cross my legs with comfort

That's one of the BEST NSV's!!! Congrats!!!
  15. I was honored to be invited to be the matron of honor in my friends wedding. I was pre-op when she asked me and actually I was nervous about it because I didn't have insurance approval yet and I wasn't comfortable in my own skin. Well I had the surgery and 2 weeks later we went to look at dresses. I tried a size 16 and it would only zipper about 1/2 way, knowing I would be losing weight I bought a 14. I am pleased to say that it fit relatively comfortably tonight, I am so beyond excited. I have 8 weeks to the wedding and I'm hoping it will need some alterations but I won't be greedy! This is the best feeling I have had in a very long time

  17. I was with another family on saturday. we were a function together. I was with my mom, and then put on my sun glasses and followed them. I called out to my friend to wait for me. her husband said "who is the skinning women". I felt so great. I was heavy for 15 years and thanks to my band and my trainer at the gym I am only 20-30 pounds and from my goal in 7 months. I think that having a trainer if you can afford it, (I don't eat out any more and save that money for my trainer), has been the best thing that has happened to me. I'm also duing the grouse grind on saturday, again for the 5th weekend in a row with my trainer and my kids. its 2900 stairs up the mountain, and amost 2 miles straight up and takes me 1 hour and 20 min. I'm still having a problem with thinking that I am still obese, and wonder who that person in the mirror is. I'm hoping that by the one year I can work around that. anyway just wanted to let someone know how it is going.
  18. Congratulations on your success and for all of those sweet NSVs! You look amazing - and more importantly - it sounds like you FEEL amazing!
  19. Ok, so it probably didn't. But I've had abnormal PAPs for the last 7 years. I get checked twice/year and it ranges from From atypical to high grade. I've had 4 LEEPS, 5 biopsies and a conization. I can't believe I even have a cervix left after all the bits and pieces that have been removed. Two years ago I finally said fuckit....unless it comes back high grade again or precancerous, I'm not having anymore procedures...obviously the aren't working. Well I just got my most resent PAP result and it was normal! My OB/Gyn emailed me herself she was so excited. I'm chalking it up to outstanding nutrition over the last 10 months since surgery. Very nice NSV!

    VSG cured my cervical dysplasia!

OK gotta' chime in here. I'm a Woman's Health NP and spent most of my career caring for women, doing cervical cancer screening and prevention. Not bragging, just letting you all know I have the creds to address this. You are absolutely correct in saying your year of healthy eating has "cured" your dysplasia. Well, not exactly, but what has happened is your body is now able to devote some energy to fighting the virus that caused your dysplsia - the HPV virus. Chances are we've all had at least 1 of the more than 100 strains of HPV out there. Some of us got lucky and got one of the less aggressive ones. Some got one of the more virulent strains that cause high grade dysplasia and cervical cancer. Like all viruses, we need our immune system to be healthy in order to fight off the negative effects of a virus. (Ever get a simple cold but because of stress, it knocked you on your ass?) Stress comes in many different forms, and being obese is a HUGE stressor on which your body has to expend a lot of its resources fighting. Congrats to you for taking this step towards good health. A pretty major NSV, wouldn't you say? By the way, if you have kids, get them vaccinated against HPV. Girls AND boys ( it takes two to tango!)

    3 Mon Check-up & @ Goal Weight

Had my 3 Mon Post Op Check up today and weighed in at 165 lbs. Dr said that I was way ahead of where I should be and if I continue burning calories at this rate I'll end up ay 120 at my 1 year check up. Of course I burst out .... "Oh hell naw, that's too too small". She agreed with me and moved be all the way to the last stage of the game. Added bread, Pasta, grains, tri tip.. pretty much no restrictions just not alcohol, sodas and unhealthy foods. She wants me to take my 1000+ calorie burn all the way down. Absolutely no more cardio... Only body building/sculpting. Focus all on muscle building. She also wants me to increase my calories from 700 to 1200 and try and eat until I feel stuffed. I was like... "Lady you don't have to tell an Ex fat person that twice... Don't mind if I do pig out." LOL Blood test were awesome... Just need to increase me Iron during my monthly cycle since um flowing pretty heavy now. So yes... This was a MAJOR NSV for me. My entire life I've had to watch everything I eat and feel and look fat. Now... I officially feel like a skinny person not having to worry about cardio, low cal diet and my clothes not fitting. Kinda excited about the body building process... Yahoo for me!

Nsv That I Still Can't Believe

This is an inspiring NSv! Yes you can do this and you are off to an awesome start
  24. I am 37, six months ago, I was 5'6" and weighed 373 pounds. My son has ran cross country for the last 2 years. I have been lucky to be able to watch him start, then take the parent shortcut to the finish line in time to see him finish. It has always bothered me that I couldn't help him train in any way. Today, I am still 5'6", but am now down to 270. This morning, my son and I participated in a 5k. Yes, he had to wait for me at this finish line, but I crossed it at 49:30' still able to sprint the last 40 yards. And I did not puke, pass out, or die. My 14 year old son, told me that he was proud of me today. I have had many nsv's, but none of them made me feel as good as this one. Worth it all, everyday and twice on Sunday. Much love O
