    TLBC-ers, help me out!

Hi: I ate very plain. Cottage cheese and plain yogurt only. Skim milk and tons of water. Sorry, not very inspiring. Doddie

    Going shopping for Post-op

Janey I never liked yogurt either - the texture made me gag (the same problem with pudding) and the gross aftertaste - yuk! Since I am determined to eat healthy food and I know yogurt is good for me, I made a serious effort to like it. I found that Yoplait custard style in almost any flavor is really, really good with no aftertaste. I find myself eating one at least four times a week for a nice snack and I really like it.

Oh NO!! Did I damage myself?

If you have a tightness in your chest, you may be a little irritated and swollen in there, but I highly doubt that you have 'ruined' anything. Just continue to have thin liquids until you are given permission to move on (and even if you have permission, if they still make you feel tight in the chest, give it more time). You should probably call your doctor and clarify on the yogurt though. Yogurt will go through a straw and is usually included in a 'full liquid' diet, which it sounds like is what you are supposed to be on now.
  5. My doctor told me that you can't replace the hair you have already lost, but you can stop it from becoming lost, as well as keeping it from breaking by eating more protein. I have found the easiest way to get more protein is to make smoothies using kale and other dark leafy greens, or making a protein shake, adding pb2 as a way to get more protein in drinkable form, there is also a protein packed yogurt that can add more as well, (Oikos, black containers.) I hope this helps! It's definitely made my hair stronger.

My sweet spot has been reached.

Well, so far so good. I had my last fill 4 days ago and was back on regular foods for the last two days. I think my band is perfect now. I tend to eat yogurt for breakfast and it goes down with just a little bit of slow down. Lunch is a tiny bit tight, and supper is perfect. I'm now down to about a cup of food at supper time....which is when I really need the help to stay on track. It looks like I will be able to maintain 1000-1200 calories pretty easily now. I was averageing a couple of hundred more then that before the fill. It doesn't sound like much difference, but thats almost half a pound a week difference. I have cut back to about 10 hours of excercise a week. I'm really busy at work right now, and the reduced calorie intake should make it all equal out.
  7. No Robert you aren't the only one. I've been angry, weepy, and snappish to my dh and I'm hungry a lot! I was banded on 5/16/07 and go in tomorrow for my post surgical visit. My food schedule is: Days 1-3 clear liquid Days 4- 14 full liquid Weeks 3 and 4 pureed diet Weeks 5 and 6 soft diet Then finally regular food on June 28!! And the taste of artificially flavored pudding, yogurt, etc. is gross. I hate the taste! For anyone who's getting nasty comments about lapband being the easy way out, just ask them how they would deal with those 6 weeks.

Two Weeks... Well Technically 13 Days!

That is a GREAT coincidence!!! I can't believe how similar our surgeries are. As for advice, I guess I would say that I am a big planner. I spent the past few weeks leading up to my liquid diet being proactive. I first started subbing one meal (breakfast) for a protein shake and then eating two regular meals. After about 2 weeks of that, I started subbing 2 meals a day for a protein shake and switching my last meal to low carb. I was doing that for about 10 days and then shifted to my full liquid diet (with sugar free jello and/or 1 greek yogurt per day) fairly easily. I say do what you can. I got this advice from my surgeon (along with his nurse and also my nutritionist agreed): If you can make two of your meals per day a protein shake, then eat one meal low carb (only carbs from veggies). Try to make your protein lowfat. It will still accomplish the goal of shrinking your liver and you should drop a few pounds. Try to make your meal about 400 calories or less. That one meal plus the two protein shakes will still make your calories around 1000 or less for the day. I don't know if it will help you, but it has been a lifesaver for me. And if I absolutely cannot make it until the 11th (no food at all the day before surgery) without eating real food, I know I can eat something as long as it is pure lowcarb. Good luck to you on journey. I wish you the best. I hope you will keep in touch with your progress, because it will be nice to see someone who's so similar to me going through the same process.

    11 Days Post-Op. 25 Pounds Lost.

I hear ya with the protein shakes! I can't drink them anymore. I am able to get in 1/2 bottle of Isopure over the course of one hour though. I need more protein. I started having creamed soups and yogurt before I supposed to also - but my stomach revolted. So I waited a few days and tried it again - a little less pain this time. This a.m. I made plain cream of wheat really thinned out and was able to have about 6-8 teaspoons before feeling really full. I have only lost 9lbs since day of surgery (11 days ago). I thought it would be more - but I'll take that loss. I also am able to eat a whole square of laughing cow cheese. I think I'm going to try cottage cheese today and see what happens.
  10. I think the gas pains are all gone now. Really, i think it might not have been gas that was causing pain, but rather my diaphram from being blown up. I feel pretty good right now, had an oxy about an hour ago, and have started drinking my Protein 2.0 water. I can tolerate little sips, but nothing more. May wait till tomorrow to try yogurt or pudding. All in all, the Hernia pain seems more than the sleeve pain. Standing up or sitting down takes a lot as it is very painful. But, i'm doing it. Taking small walks downstairs or just down the hallway. Excited to see the weight shedding. I gained 10lbs in the hospital, and have already lost 3lbs from peein. The stomach needles for the blood thinner isn't as bad as I thought they would be. Thanks to everyone for their support on this site.
  11. This is the pre-op diet: DIET: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner should be low calorie protein shakes or Non fat yogurt. We highly recommend a company by the name of REVIVAL SOY http://www.revivalsoy.com or go to a health store and look for a low calorie protein shake. The rest of the day or if you are still hungry at meal time you can have clear liquids. You should drink about 8 glasses of water or more a day. And Jell-O the low calorie kind is a clear liquid. Other clear liquids are beef and chicken broth, apple and grape juice, nonfat milk, and cranberry juice.

    frustrated and need advice

Call your NUT and express how you are feeling. Are you on full liquids or Protein shakes ONLY? If full liquids you'll most likely be able to do fat free yogurt and there are other protein options, like Isopure drinks, that are protein but different enough to get you through it. Again, call your NUT.

    NewOrleansLady Good Luck tomorrow!

My doctor put me on Full liquids after day two, this included yogurt, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, cream of wheat cereal, milk, thick soups. The yogurt and pudding really helped at those times I was really hungry. Listen to your body, you will know when to stop eating. Now at two weeks I can progress to pureed foods. He told me to go slow when I start transitioning to 'real' food and to be careful with meat. When I saw him yesterday and he said I was doing great. I only have 30 more pounds to lose. My next visit is in six weeks.

    5 Weeks Post Op

I was eating things like cottage cheese, yogurts, mash potatos, etc! When i needed to stop was when i got the hick ups.Just don't rush anything, take it slow and learn to know your limits.I was the worst when it came to eating,i never knew when i was full so i just kept on eating until i pretty much handicapped myself weighing in at 381lbs and my height is 5ft 8 inches with a BMI of 59.9.I've lost 168lbs since my surgery 8 months 2 weeks ago.I still only eat a piece of grilled chicken and maybe a bite or two of veggies.I can't eat bread or pasta, since the surgery neither appeal to me and they just don't feel rite going down so i just gave them up! Good luck with it and don't get frustrated liked i see allot on here do.

    5 Weeks Post Op

leahandgracey hi, sorry your NUT was useless to you, tuned you out sometimes you gotta assert yourself - stand up on the desk screaming and waving to her "help, i am new to this and i need you to help me"!!! drinking cantelope and watermelon juice are liquids, great, but you need to drink water too. if you hate the taste how bout adding chrystal lite - many sleevers seem to like that your NUT is only allowing you to eat once a day? not sure i get that how about eating yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs - soft foods for now are hopefully ok - ask your NUT and maybe she'll listen you didn't mention the exercising - so i'm hoping you have temporarily put that on the back burner til you get your surgeons blessings. tips????drink all day long - protein shakes, crystal light, water, take one day at a time....slowly how many calories do you take in? you'll get more to eat gradually, more meals et al others can jump aboard this train too - i can't be the only one with all the answers good luck to you

    Unjury unflavored powder

I put half a scoop of it in the 4 oz yogurt, so with the 5g Protein from the yogurt and 10g from the unjury, I think that's a nice amount for 4 oz.
  17. I guess everyone is different. My sister had her gastric bypass surgery around 15 or 16 years ago. She can eat, but still has trouble with certain foods such as ketchup, ice cream, rice, and yogurt. And she said pasta fills her up extremely fast. My mom on the other hand had her surgery like 13 or 14 years ago and pretty much can anything except for rice regular sodas, and ice cream.

  19. Anyone else experiencing this? I was able to drink milk 3 days out of surgery and had no problems, but over the past week I've been feeling a little odd and yesterday and today I did a bit of a test - sure enough, dairy seems to be the trigger to causing a bloated, gassy feeling. Which is an absolute pain in the neck, since cheese sticks have been such a handy on-the-go workaround and pre-op I included a lot of dairy in my meals. From what I read this sometimes goes away the further post-op you get, but right now is a real wrench in my protein intake plan. I can switch sources, it's just that lentils and chicken salad aren't anywhere near as conveniently portable as cheese and yogurt. Damn. Any suggestions for good, non-dairy protein that can travel? I've found some 2oz tubs of hummus, but could do with a little variety.

    Certain foods and changes

It is certainly true. I used to love peach and banana flavors for most my adult life in yogurt, drinks, etc. after being sleeved, these no longer appeal to me and makes me a little nauseous. I used to love the banana creme light yogurt!!

    Exercising

Drinking Water...or hydrating--period, was very difficult for me; as it is for most. However, in the midst of my exercise routine, drinking water was much easier. Hopefully, you will find it easier to hydrate during your exercise as well. I personally tried to consume higher calorie foods on my exercise days. I needed the energy and sustainability to get through my rigorous activities. My biggest go-to was unsalted nuts or natural peanut/almond butter. At 6 weeks post-op, I know consumption is really difficult. At your stage, Greek yogurt embedded with fruits was my other go-to-food. The extra sugar gave me extra energy. One last tip for hydrating: ice. I love to go to my local Dairy Queen (I'm a Texas girl) and grab a cup of their fine, soft ice and munch on it. It goes down so much easier that drinking water. Keep it up!!!

Sept.24Th Sleevers How Are You All Doing?

Hi everyone.. I was sleeved on the 24th as well.. Im down 27 pounds.. That includes 2 weeks pre-op.. I have been on puréed foods since Thursday and will stay on that for two weeks.. So I'm working harder on that and hopefully it will send me back to losing.. As for what I'm eating.... Soups, pudding, yogurt and Popsicles.. Ready for the next phase.. Some days are soooo hard!!!!

    Cellucor COR-performance protein

@@ppressey24 @@Suaniya i have tried premier protein! the problem is though my doctor only wants me to have 2 "milk" servings a day and that is skim milk no other milk by the way and besides having 4 Protein shakes a day which i need i am allowed 2 light yogurts and i know Premier Protein says made with milk so thats why i bought my own to be able to mix with Water it says after mixing 2 of your protein shakes with milk you are not allowed any more milk for the rest of the day so i do need to clarify on that but that is why like i said before i went and bought ones that you personally mix so i can mix with water... this is my exact diet plan am-protien drink and 1 cup of skim milk or light yogurt mid morning- Fiber supplement noon- Protein Drink, fiber supplement afternoon-1 cup raw vegtables dinner-protein drink and fiber supplement evening-protein drink and 1 cup of skim milk or light yogurt and i need to get 100 ounces a day in which include the diet plan and then am allowed water, crystal lights, decaf coffee and tea, broth, sugar free Jello and popsicles so thats why I'm not doing premier protein shakes, this is for my pre op to shrink my liver and i know every doctor has their own kinda way but i deff wanna follow what my doctor says so if he says only 2 servings of milk thats what i gotta do! I'm not worried about protein after i know i can use premier protein and any protein probably by then but this is for the pre op so even the protein i can use is strick
