First Day With Eggs
Autumnjazz replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The half of the scrambled egg white I attempted to eat yesterday tried to kill me. It was awwwwful. Sorry if this is TMI, but the 2 times I've tried scrambled eggs I get the grosses vomiting experience, it's as if it takes forever to all come up, & I'm practically choking with the mouthfuls of slime that do come up. Im bummed because I loved eggs before-now, not a fan! I got a lil discouraged because next week I get my new (1 month) diet from my dr (yay for crab, chicken, & VEGGIES) but I was thinking, if an EGG kicked my butt how am I gonna even try anything else. Maybe eggs & I will have to do a trial separation for now & attemp a reconciliation much MUCH later down the road. -
Sorry if this is TMI.. but what I would give to burp and... ___ . I have been having gas pian since I woke up from the surgery. They had given me different medicine in the hospital for it but if I wasn't falling asleep then the pain really didn't go away. I'm at home and have been taking Gas x strips. But I'm discouraged because due to the pain I can't tell if Im' full from eating. Granted I havent been able to take much in but I dont think Im getting enough. Today is day 4 and i'm at home... so I can try to stick to the regimen in place. If anyone has been through this some encouragement is all I really need right now.

Five Weeks Since The Sleeve And Heartburn Hell
clk replied to Missileer's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on choosing the sleeve! It will certainly improve your life once you can get past this rough patch. If you're not on a PPI, you should be. And if you are on one, it sounds like it's not working and you need a new one. I started on Nexium and it wasn't working for me so I switched to Prevacid (OTC). That wasn't working, either, so I finally wound up on Prilosec (generic omeprazole) and the relief was almost immediate. I had the same issues you're describing and it was terribly uncomfortable. The good news is that somewhere between 6-8 months post op I was able to stop taking the acid reducer and the reflux/heartburn resolved on their own. I hope you have the same results. I had a lot of problems in the beginning with my bowels. TMI, but hey, you're asking, right? At first I had nothing like a normal movement. Turns out I had lactose intolerance. Once I cut out the dairy, I couldn't go at all. I've found that two things work like magic: either a cup of coffee each morning or a dose of Miralax every other day does the trick. I buy the generic version of Miralax, too, because it's a lot cheaper. Now that I'm 19 months out this is not an issue at all because my capacity has increased and I can eat natural sources of Fiber along with my Protein. Good luck. You're having great results so far, and I hope that once you get these two minor issues resolved you can keep on going until you reach your goals. I can't wait until your wife can join you on this journey. You guys are going to live longer, happier, healthier lives together and there's nothing in the world better than that. Best wishes to both of you, ~Cheri -

Constipated? This Worked For Me
Ms skinniness replied to GreginMI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had alot of constipation. I take 2 colace and it doesn't work. I have taken Miralax and nothing for a couple of days. Now I'm drinking that's organic and is like benefiber that seems to help. Today was the lst day for relief. Very, very, grateful. TMI sorry -

I was banded January 2007 in August 2011 I was in the er for a major gall bladder attack and my gall bladder was removed September 2011. My gall bladder was the size of a fist an hour outpatient surgery turned into 4 hours and I was admitted overnight. Also they had to put a drain in because there was so much bile. DO NOT HESITATE TO GET YOUR GALL BLADDER REMOVED! I had symptoms for years and had no clue I thought it was heartburn. Anyway in January I came in for a fill. The ms took the Fluid out of the band and it was brownish Orange color she scheduled me for an endoscopy the next week for possible band erosion thankfully everything was fine. She said that there was so much bile leaking from my gall bladder during my surgery that the fluid seeped into the band. Everything is fine now thank goodness. In regards to how you will react after surgery, you won't have an appetite for a few days you'll be tired just take it easy. Then your body is going to adjust ie: bowel movements 4 times at least a day. It was so bad I got a hemmerhoid if this is tmi I'm sorry I'm just keeping it honest. The constant bm was about a week. Then after that I ate like a horse and gained 30 lbs! But I'm back on track and lost 20 of that so far. So that's my gall bladder story and I have to say mine was the worst. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

For the past 2 weeks the scale hasn't moved, I have been loosing inches, and that makes me super happy! What I find weird is that I am drinking more Water now but I go less to the bathroom to pee. I keep track of what I drink everyday and I have been working on drinking more, I am up to 80 oz this week, and none of it is coffee. I drink 20oz of Protein shakes and 60 oz of water. Before my scale stopped moving I had a direct route, I would drink some water and 10 mins later go pee it, yesterday I drank 40 oz before I went to the bathroom. Is this normal? The only time I sweat is during my 30 mins exercise in the morning. Any thoughts are welcome!

I just had my second dietician appointment. I have like 2 more and then whatever else I need done. I'm a bit excited about surgery but I want to know from where all do you lose weight and inches? I know it's a stupid question but does your ring size get smaller? What about your shoe size? And where does it all go? Is it like the alli pill where you (sorry tmi) crap it all out or is it different?

Okay, here it goes... I was sleeved on Feb 4th. I feel wonderful, I do not feel constipated or anything like that. I have been on liquids for 2 weeks easy. The last bowel movement I had was on Feb 2nd, eight days ago. Should I be concerned at all? Would I even be having any kind of BM without eating any solid foods. I suddenly feel ignorant. lol If it is a concern, any ideas? Thanks :blush2:

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
Flagstaffian replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, my #1 fear about having getting sleeved is pain. I have never had surgery, never had kids, never even gotten stitches!! I've never broken a bone! I find menstrual cramps debilitating!! I have a really tough job where I sometimes have to work with terminally ill people, and I lost my mom when I was a teenager, and I am a TIGER when it comes to dealing with emotional pain, but I am so scared about the hurting. And I know myself, I am going to be ALL OVER those pain meds- luckily, I can take two-four weeks off from work so my main priorities will be getting Water, Protein, and walks in. ANd I can do all of those things doped up on Vicodin! But my question for you is, have you had any other procedures? What was the pain like, specifially? Was it gas or incision? Can you feel your stomach inside your body hurting? TMI? -
Surgey Was On 2-6. Just Some Questions
ProudGrammy replied to Njd1230's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi - i also had my taste buds change a little after the sleeve. But back in 1998 i had breast CA. (TMI) Changes during chemo -all that used to taste good were now yeah . so we're talking about a month of terrible tasting yeah, sure enough things did finally get better with my taste buds, back to normal , unfortunately back to normal was loving all those yummy fattening food! thankfully with the assistance of my new best friend the sleeve, i have started a new healthier life - losing weight a day at a time. best kathy -
Talk to your Hubby! Listen to what he says. I have a foodie at home too and he is just wonderful and yes, he misses our food talk - so we still talk. A good cook can find a real challenge in keeping you fed! Help him prep his dinners, discuss how they can be prepped later when you can eat so that you can still share - and have him work on smooties and awesome teas and such for you now. Ask for hand massages and back rubs and foot massages - mine brushes my hair, even though I got it cut short. Not to do the TMI thing, I promise you can still be intimate - promise. You could use a hand in the shower, I am sure Let a few weeks pass, and keep a dream journal. Look in on yourself and make sure your concerns are from what you think they are - I have heard of nightmares and I think it may come from the realization that you have done a very permanent thing, and have more concerns of now having a "comfort layer" gone than you are aware of. Good luck and keep us posted!

This is serious Tmi but has anyone got a yeast infection after surgery? I think I have one due to the anti biotics, and my immune system is shot to hell. Thoughts anyone?
-
I hear ya!! It sucks being single and having all this "stuff" going on. Atleast there is my battery operated friend TMI lol

Yes, sip some water. Don't overdo. You may not be through "getting rid" of the turkey--sometimes my sleeve rejects things in stages (sorry if TMI, but I figure those of us with this issue should probably have as much information as possible). Did you eat too fast/too much or is your sleeve just not fond of turkey? I had the same issue with turkey today at lunch--first time I've gotten sick in almost 2 months and first time at school. Not pleasant. Hope your sleeve calms quickly!

How Soon Can I Resume Intercourse After Surgery?
Nikki_1985 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so this may be tmi but I was wondering how soon after surgery I can have sex again. I have heard 6 weeks and that just really sucks! I have my appointment with my physician pre op on the 23rd but my mom is coming with me. I would rather not ask in front of her lol -
I have no clue what size I wear usually, so I go in every 20-30 pounds and ask them to re-measure me. There's an outlet store near me that carries a variety of brands and the girls are really good about doing the measurements. I had it done about 2 months ago at Lane Bryant and the girl measured me WAY wrong. If it's not TMI, my "girls" are about between a C-D cup and she came up with DDD. Which might be right if I had a 28 inch torso!

Just Got Sleeved.... And The Scale Is Not Moving Yet?
Tif 2.0 replied to imknothatgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I gained 6 lbs in the hospital. Came home and started my period (sorry TMI, I know) gained another 3 lbs. Went to my 1 week post up follow up appt and lost all of that after a week. I was sleeved 1/27/12, and had my 1 week follow up on 2/3. I stepped on the scale this morning and had lost another 8 lbs from Friday. It will happen. -
Some Details From My First Week Post-Op
101driver posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read so much that has helped me and I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else finds things in it that can help them. Day of Surgery Good experience in the hospital. They are a “center of excellence” and really know what they’re doing. I made use of my pain pump through the night but, by morning, was pretty much off it. I wanted to be alert for all that was going on around me and what people were telling me. According to my surgeon, all went well. The only red flag of any kind was an upper GI/leak test that the doc said was “delayed” – meaning I swallowed that god awful stuff and it sat at the top of my sleeve and took several minutes to trickle on through. Even though, I guess I passed. Post Op Day 1 – car ride home...every bump killed. I hate potholes! Got home to find I it was difficult to get comfortable in any chair we have in this house. Forget the bed – no way to get in or out. Rethinking my decision to leave the hospital so soon…maybe should have stayed the extra day. I’m freaking out a little about blood clots, pneumonia, and dehydration. It sucks to feel fear in the midst of feeling so dang crappy. My abdomen burns. Incision pain and weird internal pain… Gave myself my first (of 10) Lovenox shot. This is something I was a little queasy about but it turns out it’s no problem at all. Don’t worry guys – this is easy compared to some of the other hurdles to face. Day 2 – aren’t I supposed to be able to sip? All I can do is splash enough liquid in my mouth and swallow like it’s spit. Any more than that (even the tiniest of sips) HURTS! Waves of pain and nausea. The nausea med my doc gave me helps. But it’s “minty” and dissolves under the tongue. So gross! I can’t tell if I hurt inside (digesting) or outside (incisions) – probably both. I’m a little panicked. My left shoulder is beginning to really hurt – I suspect it’s gas. This is an emotional day. It’s hard to sound upbeat on the phone with concerned family members and not let on that I’m slightly freakin’ out. Day 3 - I think things are getting better. I was able to drink 6 oz. of apple juice (over the course of an hour). That’s the most I’ve had to drink since surgery. I think I’m figuring out what I can and can’t drink. Liquid Tylenol=too thick, I think. Apple juice=nice! Just tried warm chicken broth and that was nice, too! Put some red G2 in the a cup in the freezer – great suggestion by someone out there, I forget who. Left shoulder is better today. Day 4 – keep on course… it’s getting better. My left side is out of “anguish” and into mere “achy.” I’m feeling much better physically. I find that if I stay pretty regular on anti-nausea and main meds, I can keep this thing under control. The best part of the day was a popsicle for dinner. Aaahhh – yum! I was significantly more upbeat and found myself tidying up the kitchen table, folding blankets, and stuff. My family says I look waaaaaaaay better. Day 5 – much better day! I woke up with dry, dry mouth and nausea and it occurred to me that I might be getting dehydrated. I started the day determined to up my liquids and sipped on a 16 bottle of Water. Before too long (about an hour), it was gone! I had 8 oz. of apple juice, 6 oz. of chicken broth, and 16 more oz. of water. I am able to do this! The more liquids I can take in, the better. The sips are nearing drinks (certainly nowhere near a gulp!) and I feel like my body is getting what it needs. I’m able to swallow my small meds (pre-surgery) OK. I was worried about being able to take them, but it’s working out. Got up in the night with a little reflux (generic CVS acid reducer tablets work great!) and – TMI warning – diarrhea! Oh joy. Glad to know there’s something in there to move out, but oy – clean up was interesting considering I can’t really twist/lean in the mid section. Day 6 – Woke up feeling rested and positive about the day. My panic/anxiety is all gone and I’m feeling great. Had warm diluted apple juice for Breakfast. Feeling like the swallowing thing is all good at this point. My big problem now is abdomen pain. Incision areas burn when I bend/twist/reach down. Getting out of bed is the worst. I’m still taking pain meds because of this, though I’d like to wean off all pain med if I could. I can’t imagine exercising in the near future…walking is all I can handle (and not a heck a lot of it at one time). Day 7 – Very sore…wait a minute, could this be gas pain? I’m worried about pulled muscles or abscesses but maybe these are pockets of gas trapped internally? Anyone have any experience with this? First official weigh-in = down 5 pounds! Well, I’ve made it through the first week. In some ways it seems like only as long as a day, but in others, as long as a whole month. So may emotions and changes. I feel like I'm through the roughest part. -
Have you thought about the Luigi's no sugar added Italian ice cups from the ice cream section of your grocery? They are 60 calories per serving, and the no sugar added box comes with three strawberry and three lemon. They don't have any Protein, but they can satisfy that desire for a frozen dessert. I have tried the no sugar added ice cream, and it is pretty good. In Texas we have Blue Bell ice cream, which also comes in no sugar added, but it has that sweetener taste. I've had a few dairy items that were higher in sugar and were not tolerated well. TMI alert, but search on "dumping". Also, like Tai29 said, I don't want to open the door to "small" indulgences that will slow my progress. Or, even worse, lead me back to the habits that got me in this place to begin with. Ice cream is a slider food. It would be easy to eat a lot of it.

Not quite sure what Forum this should go under-so i'll try here. First off, i have never worn shapewear (I have been a 6X for years-so wear loose clothes anyways). So I am looking towards the future. Here's my question/dilema. I have to lose about 250# and will need to wait to have any plastic surgery done. So lets suppose I lose most if not all of my weight. That will mean I will have A LOT of excess skin hanging around. My question is-will shapewear really be able to handle that much excess skin? I mean it hardly seems fair that if I lose all this weight that I have to go around with my stomach hanging to my knees for a year or two until I can get plastic surgery. I guess I should be happy just to be able to enjoy the health benefits of weight loss. But seriously, who doesn't want to also look better, and if I work this hard I want to be able to wear something besides a muumuu or stretch pants!! But how will I fit in anything if I still have so much skin hanging down?? Anybody here actually lost a significant amount of weight and had to deal with this problem?

Diarrhea (Sorry For This But I Need To Know!)
LisaBC posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I have to ask this just so I know if it's normal or not. I am 9 days post-op and on a liquid diet for 3 weeks (just started Soups today) and have been experiencing diarrhea since surgery. Is this normal? will it go away? Like I said, sorry for the TMI topic, but I am getting a bit worried and don't want to get dehydrated. Thanks! Lisa -
3 Week Post Op - Celebration And Questions
Fat4now replied to MzPecanBrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow...All of our diets are so different...I was able to start mushies after week 2 but I am not allowed any meet or fish. I can start fish at week 4 and chicken at week 5. I am also allowed whole wheat crackers and 1/2 slice of whole wheat bread with peanut butter or fat free cheese. HOWEVER, I have stalled for a week now since I have been on mushies (and they have made me constipated--TMI)... I am very upset because I do not feel like I should be stalling this early in the game.. I have cut back to two shakes a day and 2-3 snacks since I was unable to get my protein in...This is definitely a full time job. Congrats on your loss... I have lost 35 all together but only 15 of that is since surgery (the same day as you).
