  1. Congrats!!! I think those are the best type of NSV's because they show how our day-to-day lives change after the weight loss. It's the little things that we deal with that were so challenging before. Its wonderful to realize you accomplished something that you couldn't before. As for the shoes... my shoe size dropped! I lost in width and technically length. I don't think my feet are actually shorter, but rather I was wearing them too long before instead of going up in width. I think many people who have "wide" feet actually have double or triple wide feet, and instead of going through the process of getting fitted properly and trying on dozens of shoes in the "correct" size and none of them ever fitting... we just go up a size in length to make up the difference. At least that's what I think happened with me.
  2. I love this. Seriously. I was feeling all full of angst and irritation at some of what I read on here and then I open this thread and it fills me with joy. This is what it is all about. Awesome NSV, Gman, awesome.
  3. I went to work for my nephew who has a Deck and Dock business here in Tampa, Florida. He needed help packing Water retainers in 2 backyards. The job consisted of a dump truck dropping a huge mound of dirt in the driveway, the dirt being shoveled into heavy wheel barrows and wheeled to the backyard and dumped into the form, and then tamped down with a heavy tamper....all day. I worked 6-7 hours a day, Monday- Wednesday with 2 guys in their 20's in 93 degree humid Florida air. My young fellow workers complained the whole time and took frequent breaks, even took off to McDonalds to "go to the bathroom". Old Gman just kept plodding along only stopping for water and a Peanut Butter sandwich. I told them stories of my long life and had great fun with them. It's been a year and a half since my surgery. I have lost 85 pounds since then, 115 all together. Before the surgery I could barely walk up the stairs. I have been working out for the last year, stepping up the intensity every chance I could. I didn't know if I could do this job, working out is quite different from working all day in blazing hot sunlight and stifling humidity. I stood the test. I am 64.

    NSV

For years, I've had an elevated resting heart rate (110-125bpm), and even in July when I had my well woman exam, my resting heart rate was around 98. We (myself and my medical professionals) always attributed it to my obesity, and the fact that I do smoke. I had hoped that with my weight loss my heart rate would level off, but it maintained 110-125 bpm up until July when it registered below 100. I was absolutely thrilled, but my PCM was only willing to wait another 6 months before sending me for a cardio work up. After the orthrostatic hypotension diagnosis in March, it really became apparent that my body was still adjusting. I still have bouts of hypotension, and my bp drops to 80/45 occasionally which is downright scary, but I just increase fluids and sodium again, and then I won't have bouts of almost passing out for a couple of weeks. With all that being said, my resting heart rate is down to 82bpm. Yes, it's still HIGH, but for it to drop from the 100's is amazing. I would like to get it down to 70. I'm sure working out is attributing to this improvement, and I'm hoping when I go back for a follow up with my surgeon on the 20th, he'll be pleased with my heart rate. I know that quitting the smokes will definitely help, but we all know my story with kicking that habit. Just thought I would share because NSVs this far out are few and far between.
  5. I'm three weeks out today, down 25 pounds, and even though I was leary I decided to try on some jeans today that haven't fit in two years...THEY FIT!!!!! I could button them! A little snug, but three weeks ago I never thought I would fit in them again. Too soon to declare myself a success, but I'm definately in the right lane

    Scales?

JamieLogical- love the second picture on your link where the person is standing on the scale and pressing a button! ROFL! (If I could get off the floor by myself, that is!). I think one of my NSV's would be doing what that picture shows!! ????????
  8. I will be 34 in march I havent been able to shop in the regular section of the stores since I was in highschool ! Well Ive always shopped at cato's and woman that know there is a plus size side to shop on and a regular side well i finally after all these years shopped on the other side and it felt great
  9. Ok, so first I have went from a size 40 pants to a 36....they are getting loose!!! I keep getting stopped by coworkers and they tell me I am looking skinny and asking how I am doing it. Feels so awesome!! The big one is that I just did a 5k walk this morning, my first official 5k! I finished in 51mins, my 12yr old daughter finished 52mins, 6yr old daughter 1hr 4mins, and wife made it 1hr 5mins!! It was so much fun! Next weekend there is another one our family is going to do. Can't wait! The pic in the blue shirt is just before surgery on pre-op diet, the white shirt pic is from this morning.
  10. So my schedule between work and the pt (due to car accident) has been super busy. It's a little less than 4 months but I've hit my 70 pound loss already. I started at 330 pounds so I still have a long way to go but it feels so wonderful to be normal. Im sorry to say I don't count calories and I pretty much eat whatever I want but since I eat so little i make much better choices. I've started to play tennis with my husband and even purchases a used elliptical that I love. I'm only 2 pounds over my husband and can't wait till I weigh less than him. I started with a size 26/28 and to my amazement I acidently put the wrong size uniform in my bag to change after pt and I fit into an 18 petite. I could not believe it. I ordered that size for the future after my seemstress said she could no longer take in any of my other uniform pants since they would lose the pockets. Ive also found 2 boxes of clothes from when I was smaller so I haven't had to do any major shopping. Another NSV is that I can know wear all my beautiful heals and sandals since my foot has gotten smaller. Everyone at work knows I've had the surgery but they are all so supportive of me and tell me what a great job I'm doing and they even say they're jealous of me. Haha. They've nicked named me skinny which is funny cause I'm still a pretty big girl at 260 but ive lost by double chin and no longer run out of breath just walking around my job. This surgery has to have been the best investment I've ever done for myself and i love reading all the other success stories. So to all the sleeve sisters and brothers out there WE ROCK!

    Non-scale victory!

That's one of the best NSVs, isn't it? Promise to report back when you get to the next ring stage: They need to be resized.
  13. Actually, the day after posting that - two days after weighing myself and being consternated that the scale hadn't budged - I weighed myself again and was down three pounds. I think the lesson is not to always be hopping on and off the scales, and not to freak out when you don't hit the numbers you expect. I've had a bunch of NSVs - my shirt size has gone down, I had to throw away a sweatervest that was recently snug because I was swimming in it, and I'm down three belt notches. But the scale is nice, because numbers feel precise and absolute.
  14. .....The weather is a-changing. The cool weather has brought out the jeans. This morning, I took out some size 20 pants that were previously too small, put them on for the first time since being banded, and now they are too big.:clap2: Damn, missed the opportunity to wear those. :heh: Size 18's are still too small, so will wear whatever fits until then. Thank you band, Thankyouverymuch!

    GOODBYE APNEA!

Yay!!! Amazing accomplishment. .. you must feel so great. That is definitely a nsv to celebrate
  16. I reached a personal NSV today...I can cross my legs! Now, in the past, I've faked it by leaning slightly to one side and flinging one leg over the other, and then holding onto my knee for dear life. From the front, sure...looked like I was normally crossing my legs, while resting slightly on my knee. Meanwhile, the back side of me was hanging over the armrest. Now, I can sit normal with my butt and hips straight and cross my legs. AND IT DOESN'T FALL OFF! I don't have to hold it. My next NSV - on the road to becoming a "normos" - will be when I can tuck one foot behind the leg that's being crossed. The BIG NSV will come when I can cross the leg, tuck the foot, and twist my legs to the side - without moving my butt. I've studied the normal woman for years. Pretty soon I'll be able to mingle among them with no one the wiser that once I couldn't even cross my legs. In the meantime it's small steps toward normal...

    My Great NSV this weekend!

I am so happy for you! NSV are the greatest! (although the scale doesn't lie) here's hoping for many more!
  20. FridayI had some friends over for a day at the pool. My day started off with me cleaning my house and getting things ready for them to come over. That included replanting a tree and some other heavy lifting type things. I cooked dinner that night for all of us. OK, so what was my non-scale victory? Well, in the past, my back would have been absolutely killing me by the end of the day. I was in a minor car accident a few years ago that did a number on my back. Several months ago, I would have been taking pain medicine and muscle relaxers just to get to sleep after a day like that. The pain would have been all over my face. But, I realized by the end of the night Friday that I was 100% pain free! I love my band!

    I love this NSV!

My scale isn't moving much right now, so I'm really looking for NSVs. I went with my son to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, yesterday (a couple of hours from where we live). If you've ever been there, they have miles (OK, blocks and blocks) of subway halls. I've always gotten tired and had to stop and rest on our way to wherever the next appointment was, but yesterday I didn't at all! Yay! My son even mentioned it and was thrilled for me. So I feel great even if the scale is being stubborn! Emily

    Nsv

Congrats to all! I just got back from vacation...the belt fit, I could even cinch it, and the tray table went down, and I could read my magazine while it was laying down flat on the table! It DOES feel great! NSV's are the best!

    Surgery Today

I did it! I got my sleeve this morning. I will say that the morning was rough due to all the gas pain. Not even morphine got rid if it!. But less than 8 hours later the pain is much better, due to walking and moving my arms.. I've walked the hall 4 times. And after a failed first attempt, i can keep down the ice chips! Im here overnight and can go home tomorrow if i can keep "breakfast" and "lunch" down. I had so many doubts, but right now I'm glad i did it, they've already taken me off Metformin, and i look forward to more NSVs! Sent from my LGLS991 using the BariatricPal App
  25. I've had a few NSV's this week: -could fit into a size 9 shoe (wore an 11 at one point) -people telling me that my XL size scrub top was too big -being called skinny mini at work and this isn't a weight loss victory, but a victory overall: my bf decided to join my gym!! now we're both getting healthier and spending more time together
