A few things I would not done 6 months ago...
Seela replied to JanetPRN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Fabulous NSV's! In addition to the things you mentioned I bought a ridiculous pair of shoes! You know the ones, platform sandal things. They are so much more comfortable than they look! -
I'm just newly sleeved so not an expert on any of this. I lost 28 pounds preop and 10 in the last week. I started at 325 so the 37 pounds "seems" like a drop in the bucket. The reasons I wanted to do this surgery were 80% health and 20% aesthetics. I have seen a huge improvement in my health already (no more bp meds), less swelling in my legs, less pain in my feet. I haven't seen as much physically in the way of beauty, although I know it's there. Small things, like the way I walk faster, carry myself. Small thing are probably there for you if you don't look at the big picture. You might have a ways to go but look at how far you've come! It's hard to see ourselves as anything other than the obese person we are. But we are always moving forward. Do something you've never done before. It's those NSV's everyone talks about that aren't related to a scale. Those are there I bet! Keep on track. I'm inspired by your achievement this far!

My NSV was at the gym. As a creature of habit, I usually use the same elliptical. It's not under the fan, it's not on the end, and there's no mirror in front of it. (For those of you who watch "The Big Bang Theory," you could say I'm kind of like Sheldon and his SPOT on the sofa.... LOL). Anyway, today I had to use another machine, which happened to be in front of a mirror, which I'm not used to. When I was getting on the elliptical, I looked up and thought, "that woman has a nicely shaped butt." Guess what? IT WAS MY BUTT!!!! -

I've missed all of you, I've been going to school. Anyways, this week I had an NSV! A lady at work was giving some nice jackets away, size Large. Normally I never looked at them. Then it dawned on me to look. I picked one for me, and it fit! I'm still in awe!! Thank you Band!! Yay. -

I too have a special NSV, this one really touches my heart. Yesterday i found my 8 yr old in the kitchen reading all the nutritional info on his snacks, and he even knew what stuff was good for him and not so good! I'm so proud of my family for their support. Everyone is getting on board with a new healthier lifestyle and I couldn't be happier about it :-) -
Congrats on that NSV!!!!! Keep them coming. I love to hear of the successes.

Well, just had to share this NSV with my pals. Somebody gave me a beautiful Brighton belt about four years ago. Of course, you know I couldn't remotely wear it! Today, almost four years later I have it on! I couldn't even wear it when I reached goal the first time! Thanks, 5:2 and an additional 10 pounds down! I seriously couldn't believe it when I just reached for it today and buckled it right up!!!! AMAZEBALLS, Coops!

I know that a NSV isn't about the scale, but mine kinda is...I don't have to bend over to see the numbers on the scale! -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?

I had what I want to call a NSV, and one other awesome thing happen tonight. 1. I decided to try on a bra I've had in my closet (VS it was a favorite) for about 4 years. It was tight even when I bought it. Well, it's fits perfectly now! Woo! 40 lbs has been kind to me. 2. I can finally sleep in my bed. I had to put my clothes away, so I decided to try and lay in my bed. And I could, with no pain! I've slept on my couch for almost 4 weeks now. While I absolutely love my couch, I've been missing my bed the last couple nights. I can't wait to get in bed. Oh. And the amount of compliments away mound comments I've gotten the last couple days. It's been an even bigger morale booster, then me feeling like my clothes are bigger, or the fact I was able to buy a zip up hoodie from old navy for the first time in probably 3-4 years! Just even more proof I've made the best decision ever. -

I know I already posted a NSV a few days ago, but I have to include one that happened just yesterday. An averaged sized man came through my line at work, eyeing , but not buying a candy bar. I teased him about it, saying that " a little bit of chocolates good for you, I have some everyday !" He looked at me and said " yeah, but you can afford it, you're skinny !!" ( Um, thankyou , sir !! ) EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could of knocked me down with a feather !!!!! I am NOT " skinny" , I'm 5'3, 160 lbs, healthy looking, but have been told I dont look it. It' s been a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time since anyone called me skinny !!!! Thankyou Lapband !!!!!! -

Sheryl, your NSV post in the Vets is answered by almost all newbies.... Theres no end to it! -
Mr&MrsB, have you tried all diff kinds of protein shakes? They are not all alike! GREAT nsv Zom! What a wonderful feeling. I'm continuing to struggle to get in more softer foods. I'm tired of throwing it all back up. I'm still getting stuck on vitamins/meds too (and I do take chewable where I can). Going for my 6 week post op tomorrow and will be discussing it all then. I'm down 35lbs in 6 weeks, so happy about that.

NSV... and this is one thing that makes it worthwhile
Seela replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I think that's amazing. To feel normal. To not stand out and to just fit in Aside from health benefits it's one of the most important nsv you can have. Congratulations -
NSV... and this is one thing that makes it worthwhile
CowgirlJane posted a topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
i just came back from a trip to a warm climate and I never once felt awkward about wearing sleeveless or otherwise dressing in comfortable vacation wear (shorts, tank tops etc). I saw some photos of myself looking alarmingly like a normal person. Even though I have been at maintenance awhile, I still sometimes am shocked that I look okay. The place I went had a lot of really thin/skinny American women (the expats and retirees tended to be quite trim due to the active lifestyle they are drawn to there) so I was feeling kinda fat until i saw those photos and just felt that i looked okay. I didn't lose weight for looks, but it is a real confidence builder to just feel like you "fit in" I even bought a top at a store and didn't worry about if they would have anything that I could squeeze into. So, although maintenance at times is work, it's worth it since day to day life is just better when you are fit. -

I have been banded since 4/25/2012. Started wt. 325lbs. 3XL/4XL(shirts) , and 26 (pants). My current wt. 248.4lbs. I went to the store to look for some jeans and I fitted into size18 (ultra strech). Oh they looked good in me. I was doing my "happy dance" . Was super geeked.

Major NSV! Good for you! -
Today was a good start. My trainer said he can see some refinement in my muscles...There you go..It is working. He said muscle!!!! Asked him if he could see it on my butt. But he just laughed and said we are getting there you know. It is going to be something when I get all my muscle mass back.... Can you call this a NSV!
-
It is a small victory BUT it's mine nonetheless! This morning I put on my zip up boots...and I did not have to struggle to get the zipper up!! Whoo hoo!! I am 10 days out today and that was a wonderful gift!

February Sleevers.... Check in!
Dragonsmate replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
sleeved 2/10/2014 Highest weight (at my first Bariatric Surgery appt): 284.1 Pre-surgery weight: 268 Current weight: 246.4 Only problems were nausea and one episode of dumping with, of all things, chicken broth-not fun. Surgery incisions healed well, my surgeon was very pleased at my 2 week post-op visit and I just finished a 1 week camping trip. As far as foods, I am on a soft diet right now and that consists of scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, tuna salad, bananas, and cream of wheat. I struggle to get my Protein in but track that and my Water on Myfitnesspal--now very religious about logging my intake. I see the nutritionist on Tuesday and I believe I will graduate to regular foods at that time. Exercise consists of walking but I am treating myself tomorrow, for my current weight loss, to a gym membership! I still fatigue easily but I have more good days than bad now. NSVs have been subtle. My clothes prior to surgery were tight. Like, really really tight. Now, they are loose and I can wear rings that previously, I could not...oh, and I was able to cross my legs the other night! Pretty damn happy about it thus far -
February Sleevers.... Check in!
1Day1Life4Now replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was Feb. 10th. I do have reflux for which I take Prilosec every morning. All 6 of the incisions are all healed, but the two biggest ones have divets in indentions which look rather odd. I'm hoping these go away with time. I go to my Dr. for my 6 week check up on Thursday. I can eat just about anything now except things like steak or sausage. I eat a lot of chicken and fish and a few veggies. Very few carbs. I still drink my protein shakes but not every day. They are good for getting in that extra bit of protein. I drink water all day, a little bit at a time but I still struggle with the 64 ounces. To tell you the truth, the most I've been able to get in is the 48 ounces. I only drink water with SF kool aid drops in it. NO fruit juice or anything else. I hit the 3 week stall but I'm back to losing again. My NSV are that I'm fitting in to smaller close from my other closets that I've not worn in years. People are beginning to notice my weight loss and making comments. I feel better and have more energy. I walk on the tread mill and ride the stationary bike twice per day and I always park at the back of the parking lot when I go shopping. I try to walk as much as I can within reason but I know I'm still healing and I do require a lot of rest. I still can't get use to how little I can eat. My brain still thinks I can and should eat more but my tummy is in control. Thank goodness for that. -
hey tex, your success doesn't sound silly at all shopping/new sizes is one of the greatest NSV's you/me/we all have nothing like going into a store (ie JC Penny's) and buying "normal" size clothes not having to buy plus sizes (where i used to live ) you're soooooooo close to onderland i'm getting goose bumps for you keep up the good job kathy congrats
