Just over two weeks post op.

It has been an exciting time for me with all of the life changing events we have experienced in the last 4 weeks. We retired from the military, bought a house, got a great civilian job, went on a 10 day vacation and GOT BANDED!!! Since starting on the pre-op diet and then having surgery I have lost 27 lbs. and have dropped two pant sizes. I put up my clothes when I got too big for them last year and said when I get surgery I'll be able to wear them. It has only been 2 and a half weeks and I have waited TOO long for someof them. I skipped right past them. I am not complaing, just observing. God has blessed us in so many ways and the best one is that I feel I am getting my health back. We are doing 3-4 miles per day and the doctor said I can start to lift again this week if I take it easy...no crunches. I haven't eaten perfectly, but my husband said I am eating very little, but I feel like a pig. I was able to put on my D.H.'s ACU (Army uniform) shirt and zip it up. IT IS A SMALL!!!! The pants can't even go to my thighs yet...but they will someday!

  3. Please don't let this scare you. You are young and you see what your mother is going through every day of her life. My mother was very obese and in a wheel chair for over 10 years. When I was young I became very obese and really missed a huge portion of my life because of it. I am 65 now with all the health problems including insulin dependent diabetes. I am going to go through with it and I am also very scared because of my age. But if this had been available to me years ago I would have hoped I had gone for it. Maybe a lot of things would have been different. I still have to hope this will give me a better quality of life. Mokee

    Odd Woman Out At Work

Aw, you guys are awesome. Thank you for the support and advice. I've always felt uncomfortable in my skin, from the time I was a sz 6 in high school, to a sz 10 in college, to a sz 20/22 for most of my post-college career and now at the smallest I've ever been which is a sz 3/4. However, I do plan to transfer to another position because in addition to not meshing well with my team, there are some things I really don't like about the administration at my school. I think I was able to deal with the administration better when I had the support of my team. It's kind of like being a kid with really strict parents and going from having siblings to help you get through to being an only child.

    Giby97 T-Bone Steak, NO Sides Week 12

Prepared T-Bone Steak for the family and baked it. Remembering the rules of lapbander's, eat small amounts, so I brought out the trusty scissors and cut mine cup of steak into bite size niblets. Ate slowly and chewed eat piece about 30 times. I was challenging my band, and behold no problems, but that's without any veggies or sides. I have been on soups and mashed potatoes, peas, and pork and beans so i wanted to try something different. I am full and satisfied. In two hours will drink nothing but water prior to retiring for the night. My progress for weight loss is about 2.84 #s a week. Just Sunday I dropped a kilogram (2.2#s) and have maintained it. I was due for my weight had maintained at 109 kg for a week. I am ready for my next FILL too. On 24 Apr 10 I am head to the doc, three hours away for my 4th FILL. Others who have had their 4th have been satisfied and had great restriction, and that's what I am searching for. Thought I would share my experience with you. Wish all lapbanders much success.

    ahh, the wait

No word today on the approval process. The wait is such a killer. My insurance company has an online approval site, where I can check and see the status of the request - it isn't even in the system yet. I check it like every 10 minutes. I guess you can say I haven't been getting much work done these past few days. I was sure hoping I would be one of the cases that was approved within a few days. My fingers are crossed for tomorrow. :-) I died my hair today - red, or burgundy, maroon, purple, something like that. I like to have my hair a bit wild, and I love dark reds, they just fade so freakin fast.

    The Phone call...

I have been waiting for this phone call since May...I almost gave up. The last time I called the Surgeons office was about a month a go...I was told she would call me as soon as I was approved...I took the hint not to call her back. I had called once a week for two months so I am sure they were tired of me. I went to the office with a smile...everyone in my offices is aware of the 'easy way' out I have decided to take. One of the girls said what is your smile about did you win the lottery....I said no but I might as well have. I told them my surgery date of 10/28/08. They all seemed happy for me and I only got one”I can't believe your doing this to yourself" comment. The only reason I told people in the first place was because I did not want them to speculate and have the rumor mills going....gossip is so much less fun if it comes from the one that the gossip effects. 310 pounds today....goal 198 (for now) I will keep you posted!
  12. Surgery just got delayed by 6+ weeks and It's no ones fault but my own. I was so excited, I just completed my last options calss through kaiser and was suppose to meet with the surgeon on Tuesday and schedule a surgery date. Well part of our options program with Kaiser required us to do blood work at weeks 3 and week 10. Part of the blood was was an h pylori test. Well stupid me did the blood work but forget to do the h pylori test (it's a stool test). Well when I went for my week 10 labs they reminded me. All my labs cleared but my h pylori test came back positive so now I have to do antibiotics for 10 days then wait 6 WEEKS before I can retake the h pylori screen. I am totally kicking myself because had I done the stupid test in week 3 like I was suppose to I could be done with the antibiotics and be getting scheduled for surgery next month like the rest of my class... This SUCKS!

    SO HAPPY! OMG OMG OMG!

I also wonder at your reason for not getting a Realize band. I was banded on 10/15/10....and so far, I have had no problem with it. The port is slimmer, so has a smaller profile. Would be interested in hearing your reasons. Good luck!
  14. 10:30am I will be rolling back for my Roux-en-y... Excited. Nervous. Starting to feel real...

  16. I was banded back on 10/13/08 and my recovery was very smooth. I'm down a total of 45 pounds from my highest, but only about 33 since surgery. Everyone says that once you reach restriction, it is a whole different world and many find themselves losing weight more easily. Ummm....well why isn't this happening for ME!! I faithfully went every 4 weeks for small fills until I felt good restriction. I've had one small .3 cc unfill because I was a little too tight. So why o why am I still at the same friggen fraggin weight? I don't eat that much and have fairly good daily activity. I wasn't too pleased that it took me about 7 months to finally get restriction, but I kept thinking that things will change once I'm at my sweet spot. These are those frustrating times I honestly wish I had chosen the sleeve over the band. Thanks for listening to my rant :grouphug:

    Carbs in vitamins

I think that medication shouldn't have carbs in them to begin with! I was on Atkins during Feb and I had to count the carbs in Tums (and I chew them every single nite). Made less that I could eat. A shot of Nyquil has 19 in it! Wow! Marci
  18. Lmao! You're not alone. I'm 10 days post op and also very hungry!! What the hell?! I mean after I eat several bites I get full faster but man I would kill to be off liquids and eating real good again. Nothing bad I just want some salmon and veggies!! Just something dear lord!! Haha just had to say that aloud for once.
  19. I am on day 10 of my preop diet. I am only allowed the Bariatric Advantage shakes and Clear liquids. According to my documentation, I am allowed to use milk in my shakes. I have been consuming mass amounts of Crystal Light. Mr. Smith is right ... you have to get that ketosis to kick in and carbs prevent that. I am surprised that your surgeon didn't define exactly what you can and can't have. I have lost 18 lbs. in the last 10 days.

    Sugar Addiction Derails Weight Loss

What is it that you like about the shakes? The coldness? The creamy thickness. The sweetness? I am an ice cream junkie. It is a trigger food for me. And by the way, I love all of the above. This is what has worked for me. First, the greens plus with berry burst. It really has reduced my sugar cravings. Everyday, at some point, I mix vanilla Protein powder, a tablespoon of Greek yogurt, four frozen strawberries, maybe 10 -15 frozen blueberries, about 1/4-1/2 c Water, ice cubes when available and blend in my magic bullet. It's cold sweet, protein, and I think it's a milkshake. One of my band friends does the above with chocolate protein, and a spoon of Peanut Butter with almond milk and ice, a little Splenda for sweetness. banana is a nice change of pace too. Just slice up the banana in 1/2 inch slices with the skin on, put in a ziplock & freeze. Break off the amount of slices you want in your fake frozen but yummy shake! Hope this helps!

    Disney Vacation

I just got back from Disney a few weeks ago. I was 5 months post-op. I was worried about how I would eat there as well! I had nothing to worry about, though. Here are my tips: * You can pre-order any special food you'll need from Garden Grocer to keep in a refrigerator in your hotel room. They deliver to all Disney hotels. I ordered cottage cheese, string cheese, diet Jell-o and the flavored water I like. * I found that all Disney restaurants will grill chicken for you. You just have to ask. I had grilled chicken every day and was able to get my protein in that way. * I found that all ice cream vendor carts in the Disney parks sell Edy's no-sugar-added strawberry fruit bars. They only have 50 calories. * I brought my own protein bars with me. * I brought along sugar-free oatmeal packets and had that for breakfast every day. I stayed at one of the hotels with a "food court" in the lobby (Art of Animation resort). I got the hot water for the oatmeal at the beverage station. * Most restaurants (and the hotel food courts) had fresh fruit/vegetables available. * I brought along Starkist tuna in pouches. I got the one called "Tuna Salad - Sandwich Ready". It has 90 calories and 10 grams of protein and was easy to carry into the parks. I also brought crackers to eat with it. I was in Disney for a week and actually lost 7 pounds! And this was my first trip where I was able to actually fit through the turnstiles! Have a magical vacation!
