Sleevers....What brand multi vitamin are you taking?

Bariatric Advantage chews don't taste that bad but too dang high -
Hello there Mando313, I have lipedema and I am in the pre-op phase of WLS. My bariatric surgeon is familiar with lipedema (hooray!!!! such a wonderful surprise). I'm not sure though how many patients he's had with lipedema and how their weight loss looks after WLS. He is reccomending the Loop-DS (aka SIPS aka SADI-s) for me. The Loop-DS is supposed to keep glucose levels more steady which *should* help with more fat loss than a VSG ( i read that insulin fluctates more with a VSG than with a DS.. I can send the link if interested.) Anyhow, glad to find someone out there who's had WLS and has lipedema. Would love to hear how your journey has been since you posted.

SOS with post-op clothes!!
SummerTimeGirl replied to BayouTiger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Haven't had surgery yet but how about those sites that send you clothes? Not sure if they are worth it, or if it works like I'm thinking but, maybe that would be a good way to try new clothes as you lose? Here is a site that has some tips: https://www.bariatricbody.co/post/12-step-guide-for-shopping-buying-and-making-your-clothing-wardrobe-work-after-bariatric-surgery -
Hi all - I have my sleeve surgery in about an hour. Have read up on this forum for weeks now, and it has been extremely informative and supportive. I’m 6’ tall and my max weight was 360, right around the start of my preop diet 2-weeks ago. I’m now at 345 going into surgery. I’m having my surgery done by New York Bariatric Group. Hope all goes well. I have a mix of nervousness and excitement. Will update the forum on how things went.

Just finished final pre op appointment. Tomorrow is pre op labs then Wednesday is full liquids until midnight then clear liquids until arrival to hospital Thursday 7am for surgery at 9am. I have been looking for a thread from pre op to post op instead of having to jump around. So I am going to track my journey on this post and hopefully make it easier for the next person. I have stocked my frig and my pantry with clear liquids ready for week one. I am more excited than nervous. I have already purchased and received all of my vitamins which are a combination and are as follows based on content and what I personally need: BariMelts Calcium Citrate, Jarrow B12 sublingal 500mcg, Bariatric Complete by Pro Health. I took everyone's advice and have a freezer full of SF popsicles, Gas X, and Biotene dry mouth spray for post op. I bought Premier Clear Protein from Costco but they also have it on Amazon. I bought bone broth that has more protein then plan broth so I feel ready. I am open to more suggestions to make this experience as good as I can! I am so thankful for this forum because it has provided support and answered to a lot of my questions! Stayed tune for updates on my adventure

I am finally home! I got surgery April 1st thursday, they kept me in hospital till April 4th! Easter morning I was released! crazy thing is that I had more nausea than pain! I couldn't tell since I was so sleepy, tired what was really bothering me but it was nausea. I couldnt tolerate anything liquids but then by saturday night sunday morning I was drinking normal no nausea. the nausea felt like when you go on a spinning ride, for me it was hard because I avoid those rides for that reason I am far too sensitive. I am home though I did it! I am happy although it might not show because I am ssssssssssssssso tired sleepy. after 10 years of trying to get this surgery, I tried with Kaiser, I thought maybe if I have to go to six month 3 hour dietitian course with other bariatric pals, I will do it (but no) I chickened out. Then I tried with another surgery doctor in Arcadia , I thought maybe if I pay for my monthly dietitian I will go through with it( but no) I chickened out. so finally finally my mind, heart and soul aligned to go threw with it. It wasnt until then that I went all the way. you have to be in it. you have to believe, you have to think of yourself the positive leave the negative behind. you have to be at peace with the outcome. the fact my surgery was on EASter week this made it special to me like God was with me no matter what.

Methadone Maintenance and GSL
Creekimp13 replied to LisLuva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you have a required psych evaluation? Many people do. I don't know what the requirements might be with someone 5 years into substance recovery....but I know that crossover addictions are a huge concern with bariatric surgery. If you have not talked about this issue with your doc, it would be a really good idea to broach the topic. Also to ask if your healing stomach will be able to handle methadone, or if your blood serum concentration would have to be carefully monitored to adjust dose....I suspect it would be. Best wishes. -

Good questions for a bariatric surgeon. Have you had surgery yet, or are you researching it? -
I was one of these, LOL. I had regular coffee with my breakfast in the hospital. My bariatric team didn't have a rule about coffee but they did say not everyone tolerates it well right after surgery. I had no problems and never stopped drinking my one cup a day.

I was allowed caffeine 2 weeks post-op. However, for every 8 ounces of coffee I have, I need to drink 8 ounces of more water a day. The fear of caffeine stems from getting dehydrated with is the number one concern after surgery. You need to be careful to drink enough clear liquids, hopefully water. As for caffeine tablets or other sources other than coffee... I'm unsure. Best practice is to call your surgeon's clinic and talk to a bariatric dietician for guidelines.

It will largely depend on your labs and personal vitamin needs, but the office I'm going with recommends bariatric fusion. Post-surgery as a multi-vitamin you're suppose to take 4 per day (they're chewable). My office has found this has covered the vitamin needs for most their patients (there are always exceptions). I have not gotten surgery yet, but the vitamins themselves don't have directions for morning/versus nighttime use, just to take 4 a day for sleeve/bypass patients. Could be worth looking into if you're looking for a singular vitamin to take.

LAZY GIRL vitamin supplement?
WishMeSmaller replied to mother_of_many_50's topic in Food and Nutrition
I do not take iron and my labs have been great, so I take ALL of my vitamins in the morning. It is a bit trial and error to see what your tummy and labs dictate you do vitamin-wise. I take one Bariatric Advantage chewable, one dissolving B12 and one biotin, one extra D, as I was deficient prior to surgery, and one calcium chew. Like I said, my labs are good, so that is my entire vitamin regimen. Follow your plan and adjust to maintain your levels with lab results. Good luck! -
This is a good heads up, thanks. This can sometimes even apply to our supplements. A few years ago, our surgeons practice was seeing a few patients with B6 toxicity. It urns out that the Costco branded calcium citrate has B6 in it along with a few other things beyond the normal D3 and sometimes mag. Taken as a normal person once a day, that's no big deal, but along with B6 in a multivitamin (often at multiples of RDA) and taken in bariatric quantities of 2 or 3 doses per day, it was going over the toxic levels. Some may also occasionally run into acetaminophen toxicity, with the inability to use NSAIDs with some procedures they can overdose the Tylenol since it is OTC and therefore "safe". Funny things can happen!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, but my surgeon asked if I was in a relationship when I was going through the mental health check list for the insurance. I told him no and asked why. He told me that relationships, after bariatric surgery, can change. This is due to the fact that a lot of successful patients gain confidence, self worth goes up, and there is more assertiveness. In essence, the you after surgery is going to be a different person. Yes, your still you, but you’re going to be a dramatically different place in life. This can lead the souse to feel jealousy, insecurity, or even a sense of lost control. This doesn’t always happen, but it’s common enough that it’s actually being studied more thoroughly right as we speak. Minds can be weird and people are... people.

I agree the comment was inappropriate but I’m guessing your husband didn’t know how how to respond in the moment. I also agree with Tek’s comments above. Your husband may be feeling insecure. You may want to consider writing a letter to your husband. It will give you a chance to clear the air, but give your husband time to digest what you are saying and feeling without feeling confronted and getting defensive. I’m also a big fan of relationship counseling, even when there’s no issues. It gives you time to talk about things, oftentimes before they become an issue. With the changes we have post bariatric surgery, it could benefit your relationship to be able to discuss these things with a counselor. It makes your marriage stronger in the long run rather than waiting until things are really not good. A relationship counselor can teach you both ways to communicate that will benefit your marriage in the long term.

SIPS procedure coming up
Somenelsons replied to Cherubchub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I'm in St. Louis and taking steps to get the LoopDS. Your experience in this thread is encouraging. There's a lot online about how LoopDS isn't nearly as effective as DS and it's all very confusing. I'm curious what surgeon you ended up with? I'm seeing Dr. Minkin at STL Bariatric Specialists? Thanks in advance.
