Gosh girl. It really sounds like your variety is still there? What people observe through their own biased filter does not affect reality. You prepare some of the most thoughtful, beautiful meals--whether that's a cup of yogurt, or one of your kale salads, or a hard boiled egg protein snack. I think people want us to revert to eating like before or eating like them to reassure themselves that there is nothing wrong with them and that it's pointless to go your route, cuz sooner or later, you are just gonna revert to eating pancakes again and regaining all your weight. You know? I think people expect that of me as well? I do feel people watching. So do YOU feel like you're developing a problem?

Yogurt is just easy, and protein forward. I vary the profile depending on what I have available. But also just the other things I'll eat or not eat also. Nuts, seaweed, kale, salads, boiled eggs, tea... etc - safe foods. Small amounts at that. I'm careful for multiple reasons. People are constantly giving scrutinizing looks or subtlety checking in to see if I ate... Like yeah y'all seen me eat. But they want to see me eat pancakes, Doritos and turkey bacon... With a vodka soda chaser For their comfort, but I didn't eat that way before...
  3. I'm trying to resist MOM or smooth move tea in the hopes that the yogurt and psyllium will normalize me. I just found out that MOM can become addictive! Who knew? I sparkleheart it and used it every couple of weeks!

What is it about yogurt that has you focusing on that for meals? Is it always matcha flavored? Or do you vary the flavorings and toppings?
  5. Hi y'all, sorry to be MIA. Super swamped here and having a bit of SAD I think? I just am finding it really difficult to get my head back in the game after the holidays. Welcome to all the new kids on the block and hello to all my dear friends!!! @Orchids&Dragons-I break for brownies. ((hugs)) @ummyasmin-The secret to lovely matcha is...wait for it...a scosh of Crystal Light Lemonade drink stick. me=unrepentant, or using the Better Stevia lemon stevia liquid drops. So so so good! I also mix it into yogurt with blueberries, almonds, and poppy seeds. Addicted. (TY @GreenTealael for turning me onto that game!) @sillykitty- I want to become one with that sammy! It looks so dang delish!!! Nom! Ugh so a few perils of Pauline here: my blood sugars have been pretty low lately--like in the upper 60s. So I have been trying to "fix myself" by eating 6 small meals a day and staying between 600-800 cals. My B6 has been low as well and I started a BComplex supplement, plus some extra Vitamin C and Zinc for hair loss. The results from something are that I am famished! Like starvin' marvin' hungry--all the dang time! And I'm terrified. So far, I'm up from 144.8lbs to 148.4lbs this morning. How can someone gain weight eating 600-800cals? Ugh! Life can sure be a bitter pill at times! I'm also having massive poop issues. The GI doc started me on 40mg of PPI rather than 20mg, and wanted me to start Linzess. We're trying to get rid of the esophagus pain and inflammation and he thinks I may be so backed up that it's putting pressure on my pouch and tummy and keeping things backed up. But Linzess and I do not play well together, and instead, I'm trying taking 11g of psyllium husks per day along with more green veggies, etc. I think I'm filled with poop! LOL, but at least I am going a little more regularly and it isn't Rosemary's Baby bad. Sorry for the book. Bottom line is I haven't been IFing cuz of blood sugars. But maybe the high 60s are just my new normal? I feel fine until my BGs get down into the low 50s. Then I feel like crap. And right now, I don't even know if I can IF cuz of the hunger! I'm gonna stop the BComplex and Zinc and C to see if that makes my hunger level go back to normal. Maybe I'm drinking too much green tea? I'm drinking a cup of matcha + 1 Chinese-size tea pot of green tea a day in addition to decaff coffee. Thoughts on this? Too much ECGC driving my blood sugar down? Hugs all around!!

December 26, 2018 Bypass Surgery Twins??

I’m doing the protein shots because nothing taste right, and I’m having a hard time finding really soft or mushy foods. I’m also doing yogurt.

    Weird post surgery things

Could you stir a pinch of cocoa and some stevia into some yogurt?, the vanilla usually enhances the chocolate, taste. That's the first thing that comes to mind, I think maybe Hershey might make a sugar-free syrup, I know Smuckers makes a diet version of their caramel ice cream topping, so why wouldn't a big place like Hershey/Reese Cups do the same?

    December 2018 Sleevers!

205?! Woo woo Steve ! Ur on ur way ! I am stuck at 206.4 since Friday , despite spinning and eating perfect all weekend - 5 days in a row of spinning, weights and riding plus 10k steps ! I think my body just holds on to the weight with water and then lets go 3-4lbs . That’s prob what happened to u - ao I landed in Phoenix and am off to La . Had a yogurt on the plane and some soup when I arrived . Just too hard to deal with real food ..I brought a blender ball shaker and some drinks so I’ll just mix some protein drinks .. just seems easier when I travel !

Chicken salad didn't work for me either and I don't each fish. I am with you with the plane jumping too. I always pack a couple of bags of Kay's protein chips and protein bars so that I can have some coming and going. When I reach my destination I find the nearest Target for my protein water and protein yogurt. You are right, is hard. It takes a LOT of work to stay diligent, but I feel sooo much better because I do. I definitely understand how you feel. Just keep working at it and I am certain you will find your rhythm soon. Best of continued luck to you!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Hey everyone! Though I have been silent, I've been doing my best to keep up with all the post. I have to go back and read the latest, but for the most part I am all caught up. I haven't been as active on here (as far as responding) as I will be. It has taken me a while to get my bearings. I had a MAJOR issue with vomiting and while I still have my moments, it has gotten better. I can eat 3 ounces or so before I am full. Shrimp is really my go to. It really helps me with my protein count as well as it's just easier for me to digest. I am not a fan of protein shakes anymore; however, I have to have them to meet my numbers. Protein yogurt, protein water (protein h2o not premier protein), the occasional protein bar all come in handy for me. I had been working diligently to get under 200... I FINALLY did after 2 weeks of the scale not moving. I don't weigh myself daily. I honestly am not interested in how much weight I lose weekly. I am just focusing on meeting my overall goals.. under 200 by Feb 1st, lose another 20 by the end of March, etc. Water has not been working for me. I don't like the "taste" now. Pre surgery I consumed 100-120 ounces of plain water each day. I am having to use Crystal Light packs to get the water down mostly, but there are times that I do try to force it down without. There are so many changes that you go through post surgery. I am sure I am missing a lot, but look forward to being more active now. I am just focusing on what's before me and slowly plowing ahead and being patient with myself. I hope everyone is allowing a little grace and patience to flow your way. How is everyone else coming along?
  11. I’ve settled on most days a high protein yogurt (siggi’s Icelandic style) add in some chopped nuts. I may add a sausage link. I also tend to eat at my desk in the morning. That habit I haven’t broken... Basically I was tired of eggs and now really enjoy them other parts of the day/week.

Can I afford the post-op diet?

I edited it to say Amazon and Walmart once I read you were in Hawaii (derp , speed reading), yes yogurt can replace a supplement. *Most* Teams prefer that you eventually work to get your protein macros from real foods instead of shakes when you can.

Can I afford the post-op diet?

No Dollar Tree here, darn! Lol. Do you mean that I can do yogurt instead of shakes? I am a yogurt freak, so that would be great. Would I need to supplant with additional protein, added to yogurt?

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Jan. 27th: Current struggle- lazy with food again, I'd rather eat yogurt than prep anything else for myself unless it was made in bulk and needs to be finished. People around me are starting to notice (asking what I ate for the day) and it's making me super self-conscious trying to explain that I ate yogurt for 3 meals in a row but it was perfectly acceptable 😓. Gotta get it together GTL, Quick before someone accuses me of orthorexia...

    January surgeries?!

I had surgery on 01/24, late in the day so that night was very bad, a lot of pain. It has been getting better each day. I do not feel hunger at all, I am only able to drink 1 oz of liquid at a time otherwise my sternum feels like it is getting kicked. My doctor has already introduced me to soft foods-yogurt-and it was the same thing, one oz otherwise there is pain. Starting to get around but after a bit, I do get tired so I take a break. I had my surgery in Kuala Lumpur and had nothing but the best experience, from the surgeon, nursing staff, anesthesiologist, to the dietitian, etc... Going to take it one day at a time. I have not weighed myself, will wait for the follow up appt. tomorrow.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Thanks, Steve!... Like many of us - I am striving for that 199 pd. milestone come Spring! It has been over 20 years since I was under 200. ;[ So, I am very excited to know the sleeve will assist me to never going back to that place again. Congratulations!!! on your 46 loss. Just think 36 pounds more to go AND we will all be admiring you on the June cover of GQ! ;] Ladies, I also struggled with nausea from vitamin regime, but I think thru trial & error (and, throwing a lot of gag stuff away) over the past few weeks - I found Flintstones complete (2 a day) recommended by LOLO, Celebrate B-12 quick melt and Calcium Citrate orange soft chews to be working well. It helps to take them after a meal, and I try to stagger the doses (while not very convenient) for less irritation. Like Steve, I am tolerating solid meat proteins well. Just had Chipotle pulled pork recipe from Sarah Kent's cookbook for Sleeves (a bariatric nutritionist from a surgery center of excellence). Only eat ¼ - ½ servings and instead of a bun - I wrap three little sandwiches in english cucumber (almost seedless) or Bibb lettuce leaf (soft). Delicious and long satisfying! Her recipes have kept me sane, and do introduce balance like Steve mentioned, other important nutrients besides "all protein" especially, post op 6 - 7 weeks and onward... If you are able to tolerate. Many are very happy eating clinically and precise just for fuel... I have always been a foodie, and have enjoyed experimenting with new and better ways of eating for a long-term, sustainable Sleeve lifestyle. We also like to entertain. Her baked Vanilla oatmeal with various fruit options is excellent with high protein ingredients. I have this many mornings heated with a little 1% milk to soften. It keeps me energized without a drain. I am losing right on schedule without crave or hunger which is also Sarah's goal for scientifically sound formulated menus. Unfortunately, I never liked Greek yogurt, flaked fishes, crab or tuna fish without a mayo mask. Her book does include a Fish chapter with dishes I plan to try and be open to... Shrimp cocktail tonight. ;] I think all our December Sleevers are doing great each at their own pace thru the good, bad and ugly! None of this is a tip toe thru the tulips!

Surgery 12/1718 - Share you concerns about calorie intake after those shakes! Applesauce & yogurt my go too. I can only take on so much food too. For some exercise in bad weather...."skate" movement like an ice skater....you can do it while watching t.v. Set your own pace....its cardio. Videos on internet. I might not be as intense or have the perfect form as videos but it works and got things moving. Down 30lbs. Took awhile for me to get those digestive sounds down too.....but finally can tell difference between hunger and tummy issues. Give it another week. I had a caprese salad last night, slice of tomato, slice mozzarella, basil, drizzle of olive oil & balsamic vinegar. Very low calorie, good protein. Took a few minutes for my tummy to decide if could handle but then it settled down and enjoyed! Usually takes about a hour or two if something new will result in direahrea. This did not happen. Did miss the bread to dunk in the oil and vinegar, but stay strong. I have never vomited.....came close but have been able to talk myself out of each time. Dr. finds that funny...lol!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

My surgery was 12/26/2018 . I have also experienced a stall since advancing from liquid diet to soft/puree however have noticed my clothes fitting looser so I don't think it is all about the scale? I have seen post where people can't get in past 400 calories and am wondering how that can be? I have to drink a minimum of 2 protein drinks a day and the Bariatric Advantage powder (because these have 200% of DV vitamin requirements needed) itself is 150 calories along with 80 calories for the fat free milk (Mootopia) I mix it in with so that's 230 for each shake and a total of 430 along with all the required vitamins & supplements that total 120 calories just for those alone. So for me to get the minimum required vitamins and proteins ( which I will make sure I do per less chance of loosing hair and other problems with deficiencies) that's 580 calories by itself. Throw some food in there and it's easy to get almost 800 or more calories in a day. I don't always walk like I should per bad weather and I think if I would remain consistent here it would help me get out of this stall. I am also diligent with drinking a minimum of 64 ozs of water a day and many times go beyond this. I am not having much trouble keeping any food down but usually find that I can only eat about a 1/4th cup amount of food. I haven't pushed much beyond this unless it's applesauce or yogurt. I am still trying to figure out what all the grumbles and noises my digestive system is all about? Not sure what hunger pains feel like or if it is just digestive unease? It is like me and my body are getting reacquainted and I am forced to now listen to it more and decipher what is actually going on?

I am in week 5 and I certainly can’t do much in the way of dense foods . Chicken and egg salad didn’t work . I am finding I need at least one protein drink a day to ensure I get my protein and my surgeon has suggested same . I am doing a lot of cottage cheese or plain yogurt with sugar free fruit cups (soft fruit , 25 calories no added sugar) and I am carrying tons of low fat cheese sticks in my purse ! I am using bananas too. I get hungry but a lot of foods get stuck and are uncomfortable . But one cheese stick get me over the hump . I am having very good success with tuna salad and fish dishes - was out to dinner and had flounder Francais and grilled fish with lump crabmeat and a side of mashed potatoes and mixed vetables and all that went down well ! Only about 2-3 oz of fish at a sitting though

Pureed Foods 1 week post op

You might need something more satisfying or something that "hits the spot" so look for ways to get the flavors you want. I used a dash of Frank's hot wing sauce on my plain yogurt and that really satisfied me and felt like real food. (Assuming you have no ulcers and it is just a dash of sauce.)

i am not eating to much protein a day

I was told that lack of protein would slow weightloss. Buy a flavorless protein powder and mix it into Fair Life brand milk. Fair Life brand milk has 13g of protein in one cup. And lower sugar. Or you can mix the protein powder into yogurt. Some brands have low sugar yogurt (I avoid the diet sugar yogurts because I hate the taste now). Your food portion should be tiny right now I think 1/4 cup so use a measuring cup to keep the portion controlled until you heal. If you cant tolerate milk you can even add protein powder to water. For sure drink more water so you can flush out the fat. Also, stalls and long stalls are normal just focus on healing and nourishing yourself.

Pureed Foods 1 week post op

At my 1 week post -op my surgeon told me that because my surgery went very well, and as long as I was getting in at least 64 oz of fluids daily he expected me to tell him I was feeling a bit hungry. He told me to add in a Greek yogurt, making sure the sugar was 12g or less and it did not have any fruit chucks. Just smooth. Hope this helps!
