  1. So today is surgery day I just checked in at the hospital. Surgery in 2 hours. I'm so excited not really nervous at all. It's been a long 10 months of preparation so I'm definitely ready to take the next step. Here goes nothing🙏🏻
  2. On my six month anniversary of my surgery, I dropped into the 160s for the first time in 20 years. I can hardly believe it. Six months, 60 pounds, 10 pounds a month. I am thrilled and terrified all at the same time. I have been here before. And then I wasn't. But, this time HAS to be different. This time WILL be different. I am different. This surgery has made all the difference in the world. This is no longer about food. This is about LIFE. h230/c168/g160

When People Notice Your Weight Loss

I enjoy it. In fact, I love them. It's substantive confirmation of how hard I'm working to get the best results out of my surgery. My last successful weight loss attempt on my own before surgery was over 10 years ago, when I was able to get down to 130 pounds. I was even able to hold on to that weight for close to two years. I loved the compliments and attention. I love how I felt. It was an amazing time. But then inevitably, the weight slowly started packing on again, plus more. The compliments suddenly went away, and there was just silence. A terrible awful silence. I had worked so hard to get to that place, but I just couldn't hold onto it. It really did me in, emotionally, physically. After that I just couldn't summon the strength to do it again, and so I went on to become my highest weight ever at 248. Now, after weight loss surgery, I'm only 45 pounds away from that 130 I was before. The compliments I've been receiving already are so wonderful, because it's finally displaced that terrible, awful silence. And I can't wait to be reacquainted with the 130 pound woman I was before, because I've really missed her. Those compliments are concrete proof of how far you've come. So it doesn't matter how far you still have to go. Enjoy where you are now, give yourself a little pat on the back, and bask in the knowledge that it's only going to get better!

To Fill or not to fill???

Hi Sultana, Usually the band is not filled at all at surgery. So the band that's in you now is empty and is not creating any restriction to speak of. What little restriction you have felt so far is probably a result of your stomach beling swollen after surgery. As your stomach heals the restriction fades. Now it's time to inflate the band a little to create restriction again. My experience with the new restriction was a lot like it was right after surgery, minus any pain. There is no "sick" involved, even when things get stuck. PBing is not at all like vomiting, though it can be painful if the stuck episode is prolonged. All that's needed to avoid this completely, though, is care. When I'm paying attention things NEVER get stuck. It's only when I'm eating too quickly and not chewing enough that anything ever gets stuck. You're right about not being able to lose weight if the band is not adjusted--some people can but obviously it's designed to be inflated and that's the way it's supposed to be used. I need more than a mental barrier to overeating, so I had my band adjusted and will be going for my second adjustment on February 19. Don't worry!

    A FEW POUNDS BACK ON

Colleen how are y'all doing? I lost 10 post op, gained 5 back, lost 4. I refuse to get back on the scales until my drs apt. Everything said here is the absolute truth. Our bodies have been through something traumatic! I'm just staying the course , eating the way I'm suppose to and walking. My only issue is I'm not getting enough fluid. Still causes some pain in my chest when I drink.

What Made You Choose the Sleeve?

Had the band for 10 years and it sucked. I did not like having a "pouch" and feared the rny would be too similiar. I had so much weight to lose, I decided that if the sleeve didn't give me good results, I would be open to getting the DS, but not the RNY. The sleeve worked great for me, I have lost 150+ in 14 months and am now maintaining.

    A Man's Meal?

When meeting with my dietician at discharge she held up two small medicine dose cups and put them together. She said the 2 oz pouch was my new stomach. Obviously as I healed I was able to increase my intake from that small 2 oz cup to almost my pre-band portions. After my first adjustment that was significantly reduced and now it is a little more. At this time, my first adjustment, I have some good restriction but I know more would be better. My largest meal is lunch and is from 7-10 oz. by weight. dinner is about 7 oz. and Breakfast between 2-3 oz. since my band seems tighter in the morning. Most meals are fairly solid because I like how long the solid food sits in the band versus Soup or mushies like mashed potatos. I vary my calorie intake and range between 800-1300, shooting at about 1000 average at suggestion of my surgeon. All of these are far larger than the 2 oz. the dietician said I would be living with. Any thoughts or suggestions? Am I looking at this incorrectly? Can the stomach really stretch that much to accomodate 10 oz. from its little 2 oz. size? Do you think women have the same capacity as my female bandster friend eats significantly less than me.

    Hi

10 lbs on preop is great! It is normal to get anxious prior to surgery. My way of handling anxiety is to keep very busy. Time will pass quicker than you think it will. You will be fine.

    Weight loss goals

I have 2 goals. 1st is the doctors goal. He said I should be able to get down to 160. I was 226.8 when I first say him and 205 the day of surgery. I am 5'4". I think 160 is way too high and I am certain I can get below that now that I have this new tool. My goal is 135. For BMI... I could go well below that, but I look too thin if I am less than 130. 135 was my healthy weight 10 years ago. Hoping to get close to that. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey need some friends that can relate

I have been banded for 10 years. Had the weight off for 8 years and then BAM, retired and last year of work was a nightmare with the boss from hell. I know, that is not an excuse, but here I am again trying to lose this 35-40 pounds gained from stress eating. Getting back on this website has helped me get my resolve to do this again and I hope that this helped you with knowing that we all slip one time or another and we can do this again. I believe that obesity is a disease like alcoholism, the only difference is that you can quit alcohol but you cannot totally give up food. We need to have control at all times and it is definitely HARD TO DO.
  13. I know this is always a point of interest for people, so here is a little more data to add to your collection. This is my actual weekly weight loss with an average of 3.3 lbs per week since the day of surgery: Highest weight (July 2013) = 283 1st day Pre-op Diet (Jan 22nd 2014) = 270 (-13) Day of Surgery (Feb 4th 2014) = 254.5 (-15.5) Post Op Data by Week: Week 1 = 244.4 (-10.1) Week 2 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 3 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 4 = 241.2 (-3.2) MO 1 = -13.3 Week 5 = 238.2 (-3.0) Week 6 = 235.0 (-3.2) Week 7 = 232.2 (-2.8) Week 8 = 229.9 (-2.3) MO 2 = -11.3 Week 9 = 227.2 (-2.7) Week 10 = 221.8 (-5.4) Week 11 = 220.2 (-1.6) Week 12 = 214.8 (-5.4) MO 3 = -15.1 So there you have it, it really does add up over time, even with some frustrating stall weeks. Keep on plugging, everybody!

I need help!!! Ok, here's my story, I was banded 6-19-07. Ok, I have lost about 35 lbs but I don't give all the credit to the band seeing how I have absolutely NO restriction. Ok, here's where my trouble begins, about 3 weeks ago, and after about 10 fills, I was finally at 2.6 cc. in my band. For whatever reason, my Dr. refuses to give me more than .2 at a time. Ok, anyhow, I went in for my big .2 fill and new that I would then graduate up to 2.8cc, right????? Well, instead, I was told I had 1 cc in the band.WTF. So, he gave me a 1/2 cc, to make me at 1.5cc. Well, where did it go? So, the next appt, which was 2 weeks later, the 1.5 was still there, so he added guess what, .2. Ok, so now I'm at 1.7 cc. He told me that sometimes when you lose weight on the outside you will also lose on the inside so the band will shift & cause it to be difficult to extract all the fluid. Two weeks prior to this he stated I may have a leak but now he's giving me this so called reason. First of all I haven't lost any weight in months. Secondly, I though the band was sewed in place so that it shouldn't be shifting. Ok, for the past four days I have been totally nauseated, & my question is this, If my band is leaking, could it be causing this nausea??? I go back tomorrow . And I am very interested to see whats in the band now. And I will certainly mention this nausea that I can't get rid of. If anyone has any input, It would be greatly appreciated.

Oui1213 - If you don't like my comments please don't read them. You are clearly quite a rude person. After having the band for 10 years, I feel suitably qualified to talk about my experiences. My responses here are honest, truthful and well balanced. Please read them again. Would you prefer it if I lied? Or genuinely shared my experiences, which, I believe is what this forum is about. My response here says that I am not knocking the band, it helped me lose weight, did I ever really feel full? No I didn't, is what the person in the original post experiencing normal? Yes it was at least the same for me. I also think it's very silly and naive of you to only want to hear success stories, like all types of surgeries, for some people this procedure works extremely well, for others not so well, people need to here all angles not just the good ones! send2steph posted "This has been really informative. Thanks!" So would you please mind your own business and keep your nose out. Thanks. Oui1213.

    Pre-Op in college

My doctor required a protein shake at breakfast and lunch and for dinner a palm sized meal, half lean protein and half veggies plus 64 oz water. That was it. Lost 19 pounds in two weeks but I started at a really high weight. I teach at a university and about all I cam get in the cafeteria is grilled chicken. Occasionally lean beef tips or grilled shrimp. I can take my lunch of course. Good luck.

My husband is going to rebel!

I know they have a lot of salt. I am trying to win him over slowly by starting this way...I love chickpeas. LOL It's not about me it is about him. He loves salt and oil and bad stuff. I at least give him lentils...It's a start but he is not taking it well.. You know those guys who miss a meal and loses 10 lbs. That is my hubby!!!
  20. I felt fine in a couple days. I never had pain and took no pain meds. I am 10 days out and are on pureed stage. Other than still lacking energy, it's been great! I'm most curious about the cruise! We are frequent cruisers- but I have till nov to get ready! As you know we are going to totally have to change our mindset and remember its about having fun, being with people, not all about eating. You can do it!!
  21. Hey all, I'm sooooooooooooooooooo thrilled!! Last year 10/07, I started the whole process of getting the approvals from the doctors (cardio, lung, psych)..2/12/07 I was scheduled for surgery...and RIGHT before the day, I cancelled...unbelievable! Recently, I started rethinking everything...and decided to start once again. Luckily, I didn't need to be re-evaluated. Today, I got the call from the cordinator. I go to pre-op class on 9/22 and Surgery is scheduled for 10/07/08!! whooooooo whooooooo!! wish me luck and any positive feedback is morrrrrree than welcome!! Peace out-
  22. Minimeme: My friend had a chicken farm and sold the eggs to a commerical company. We would go out to the farm to help her gather eggs and get them cleaned & weighed to be ready for pickup. They were picked up every 10 days, taken to the plant for processing. By the time they hit the grocery stores, they are anywhere from 3-5 weeks old. Fresh yard eggs are so much better. They taste really good and I am so fortunate to have fresh eggs often. If anyone reading this posting has the opportunity to buy fresh yard eggs from a local person, you won't be sorry.
  23. I had no restrictions on stairs (I live on 2nd story). Restriction with driving only secondary to pain meds and my comfort level (about a week). 10 pound Lift restriction for 8 weeks, I think.

Request For Lap Band Buddy, Pre-surgery

I would be more than happy to help you through all this. I had the band placed 10/25/2010. Ask anything and I will tell you anything you want to know. I was 216 when I started and am 158 now. I'm so happy now and was very depressed before I had it done.

    Emotional wreck

Good morning. Today I am supposed to start my 2 week pre op diet. I have struggled hard the past 2 days and am a wreck. I even think about the surgery and I cry so hard I can’t breath. Let me go back a little bit. My insurance does not cover the surgery so I am paying myself. That also means that it all is happening really fast. My initial consult was March 5 and surgery is May 6. Also no prerequisite were required like a psych evaluation. I started calorie counting and exercising in my own in February and since I have lost 24 pounds on my own. From 291 to 267. I never had the 6 month wait with working with a dietian to see if I could do it on my own. This is the first time I’m trying to change the problem not bandaid it with weight loss pills. And it looks like it is working but will be slower than surgery. I’m on track for 10 pounds a month. I have no underlying conditions such as blood pressure or diabetes. This surgery is scaring the poop out of me and I’m so close to backing out. Has anyone been here and done it on there own? I feel like there is no part of this I can mentally handle. I can handle tracking my food and losing slowly.
