    Wth?

I know, I know...dont get hung up on the scale....BUT I'm about 6 weeks out & last Saturday I weighed 283 & today I weigh 285. I am averaging 5-600 cals a day. And I don't have a TOM. What the.... Maybe it's what I'm eating? Here's an average day. I'm not big on variety yet cuz my sleeve is picky....realllly picky! Also not a big eater...just can't do 6 meals a day. Am. SF vanilla latte w/ 2% milk. Takes all morning to drink lunch. 1/6 of a flat out whole wheat wrap w/ 2 tblspn of cram cheese & 2 oz of smoked salmon Snack. Protein shake w/ 30 g protein...can only stomach a little over 2/3 of it dinner is the same as lunch. Well, thoughts??

    Wth?

Are you keeping an actual food journal to log the breakdown of your calories/fats/carbs/protein? Sounds like you are getting in an OK amount of Protein, but might need more. At 6 weeks you should be aiming to get 80-90g at a minimum. And it's good if you can get half of that in before mid-day, rather than lumping it all in the afternoon. If you can, mix up what you're eating rather than eating the same thing more than twice a day. Are you logging your fluids as well, 64oz or more per day? How much are you exercising? It might be time to bump it up a little, like 10% more. More than likely it's just a stall. The human body is not a perfectly tuned machine and can have it's quirks. Be patient, I'm sure it will break soon!!
  3. Has anyone tried other types of Protein powders, such as hemp, brown rice, goats milk, quinoa? I occasionally buy from Azure Standard, and most of their protein powders are from these other ingredients. Just curious! Sue

    Help!

I was like that too. But Day 5 I woke up a new person. I struggled to eat and drink and lost 8 lbs the week of surgery. It gets better. Sip all day. Take in a spoon full of protein when you can. You got this [emoji173]️

    hair loss help!

I asked my uncle who is an expert hair stylist and my cousin who is a pharmacist and they said nothing can be done to prevent it. It depends how much Protein you were able to get in during the first few months post surgery. They both also said that it is very rare that it is noticeable. My uncle had 4 clients who got sleeved and none of them lost any hair and my cousin said she has rarely seen it also, and they live in different countries, so ... I am also VERY stressed out about this happening to me, but all I can do is eat my protein and pray that my hair stays on. Good luck.

    2 Days Post Op

Yes, they do need to be sugar free. They also have helped me get more fluids in. There are also tropical flavored sugar free available as well. Get several boxes. I should buy stock at this point!!! LOL Yes, it is normal to be struggling with your water intake. I am 3 weeks out and no where near 64 oz. of fluids a day. I am lucky to get in my two protein shakes and two 16.9 oz. of Propel Zero a day with a bit of pureed foods for dinner. If I drink any more than that, it will come back up. I think some people have more swelling than others and I also know there is a size range for the size of the sleeve, so if your's is small as I believe mine is, then it will take longer to get your shakes and fluids down. Keep sipping slowly. It does get better day by day. This may seem nasty, but I keep track of the color of my urine. Dark yellow means you are not getting enough fluids, lighter yellow means you are doing ok for your body...maybe not as much as you would like, but enough to flush your system. Also the one time I was really low in fluids and was dehydrated I had horrible muscle aches that night and I knew that was the issue. I ended up being awake most of the night in pain and sipping water. By morning, I was much better and I have never had that happen again. Try chewing some mint gum for a little bit, it does help with the bad breath, dry mouth issue as well. Hope this is of help to you. Hang in there!!! You are going to be fine.
  7. I actually mix my one scoop of protein in my smoothie.

Is Carbs Is Fresh Food Bad For You Also?

fruits are naturally high in sugar. I wouldn't consume too much fruit in the beginning stick with your protein and veggies.
  9. Hi Lucy, You're stomach is recovering from major surgery, so you don't want to over do it, especially in the beginning. Protein drinks, pureed Soups, mashed potatoes should all be fine right now, but I don't think your stomach is ready for the cheese at this point. Try to hold off on that for just a little bit longer. You should focus on the menu plan your Dr's office gave you because they know what your stomach can handle at each stage. Each week brings you a new opportunity to try different, new foods. Be patient as the time does go by quickly. Check that food plan again, and if you need to, call your NUT or Dr's office for better advice. Hang in there. Fran
  10. Hey BariatricPal Members, I have a question for you: What characteristics does the perfect bariatric product have? I’m guessing there are some that we all agree on: Taste for protein powders, protein bars, and bariatric snacks. Easy to mix for protein powders. Easy to swallow for bariatric vitamins. But what else? If you are rating a product that you bought, what are you likely to think about as you leave comments and decide how many stars to give? Please let me know. Thanks!
  11. I also have on my list what Vitamins and minerals and in what form (pill, chewable, crystal) do I need....as well as what's her preferred Protein powder/drink
  12. You may have hit a point of equilibrium where the amount of calories you take in equal the amount of calories you burn on a daily average. If you would like to lose more weight, ensure you are doing the basics: Don't drink Water 15 minutes prior, during or 45 minutes after eating Eat lean Proteins first, then good carbs Exercise - push yourself, don't just go through the motions. Your heart rate should be up there. Do you track on MyFitnessPal?

    Is my FEAR founded?

Yes it makes sense, I was sleeved 12/11/13. The scale has not moved in a week. I am just trying to keep up my protein and fluids. Going to start exercising soon. This forum has truly been a blessing to me so keep doing what you doing and posting for support.
  14. As I sit here sipping yet another protein shake in prep for surgery next week it got me thinking. For all you post ops how much are you spending on food now as compared to pre surgery? I understand you're eating much less but how much is that offset by costs if your consuming protein, vitamins, better foods, etc? Please do not reply in dollar amounts but as a monthly percentage of what you spent pre op. Have a great weekend.....
  15. you sound about average or ever so slightly slower....it's not a race honey. Eventually it's going to come off. This surgery doesn't fail unless you are doing something wrong and it sounds like you are doing the right things, although the protein is a little bit earlier than when my doctor said but every doc is different:) Keep up the good work!
  16. There are literally more things that impact weightloss (and fatloss) than you & I could count together, so I'm not sure where to start. Your info says you're down 22 lbs do I'm assuming you lost some pre-op. That has to be factored in. Losing is losing. You don't lose "before" and "after". It's cumulative. So don't inore the weight you lost pre-op. You also have to factor in an average over time. You're going to have rapid loss, and slow loss, and no loss. But are you maintaining a good rate on average? It's also fairly common for weightloss to slow a biut when you hit solid Proteins, and if you're already eating lean meats and vegetables then it sounds like you hit them pretty early. That might be playing a role. 10 pounds in 3 weeks is over 3 lbs per week. That's above the average rate of loss. There's a lot going on inside your body. A lot of things changing and adjusting. Almost all of them are based on Fluid, and fluid is heavy. I ate under 650 cals for 10 weeks and lost nothing. Obvioulsy I can't truly lose nothing on that intake, or no one would ever be able to starve to death. But there were things going on in my body that kept my weight (not necessarily my fat) unchanged. There are also "rabbits" and "tortoises". Men tend to lose a lot faster. People with more to lose tend to lose faster. Etc. Just be patient.
  17. Thank you guys. I did lose more weight pre-op. You are right...weight loss is weight loss. I know, I read that some people were kept on strict liquid diets for many weeks after surgery. My Doctor said one to two weeks of liquid and I was supposed to be making sure 40 - 50 grams of protein were consumed during the first two weeks. Then, I was told in week 2-3 to puree' meat and vegetables and to introduce soft foods as I can handle them. I have not had any problems eating food that wasn't puree'd. I guess I just need to be patient.

    Is it just me?

My stomach growls and belches letting me know when it's empty-it kind of feels like hunger pains but a little different. Make sure you get protein in all day. As soon as my protein wears off I feel it. For me, 10 grams of protein gets me through one hour. My Premier shake has 30 grams and takes me from 6-9am every day. Greek yogurt gets me through to lunch. I hate the rumbling my tummy makes but I'm trying to use it as another tool for my success-it's my nutrient gage now. As far as craving sweets, I don't-I'm craving veggies which my tummy will not accept! Never, ever thought I'ld say that!

    I had the sleeve

Can you keep protein shakes down? What does your doctor say? Have you contacted them? Its a fabulous weight loss. You say you are pre op. Are you having a revision due to this problem?

    New, sleeved, and experimenting!

Thanks so much! Love the list and the Protein sample resources!
  21. Hello, all! texasmelody here, about 16 days after getting my sleeve here in Dallas. Dr. Castro was my surgeon, and I had the sleeve at Baylor. I began my pre-op diet exactly a month ago, and in the month before and after the sleeve I'm down 43.1 pounds -- so, only about another 260 pounds to go. Sheesh! Everything seems to be going well so far. I've had the usual intestinal distress, but that seems to be calming down. I've had a couple of occasions where stuff seems to sit in my chest. Distressing, but do-able. I've had some early-run dizziness that turned out to be the fact that my blood-pressure dosage was suddenly too high -- so that's now been cut in half. Woot! So...now, just experimenting with Protein powders and flavors. I love the Isopure Zero Carb bottles, but hate the cost. The Bariatric Advantage stuff turned out to make me VERY sick. Not sure why. So....I would love it if you guys would weigh in with your protein recommendations -- or, ideally, the best place to pick up the Isopure Zero Carb Grape Frost stuff. Look forward to interacting with you all! Big group hug, texasmelody

Can you do this all organic?

The organic protein powders/shakes I've seen were so high in carbs though I guess I'll have to wait for maintenance.
  23. BLERDgirl

Can you do this all organic?

I'm allergic to it. It's in the ragweed family and triggers severe hives. Here's another resource for Protein powders. Bob's Red Mill
  24. I am on day 12. Yesterday was the first time I felt queasy. Even though today is better, the protein drink (all I am allowed to have besides water until Monday) looks like an insurmountable obstacle to me. I have cried a couple of times today. My body feels sluggish and my brain feels dull. I am hoping that when I can eat something, I will feel more normal.
  25. Yes I have days that I can eat more and days that I can barely eat anything. Today is one of the not much days So I take full advantage of those and just eat enough to get my protein in. It is a battle when you are hormonal. I will allow a small treat, but I still track everything so that I am accountable.
