Yepper. Had insomnia from hell for two weeks. Got my period a week late after sleeve, then early the next month. Have had an acne flare up. And this is WAY TMI....but have had a sex drive that won't quit. Hubby is thrilled about this side effect. LOL.

Well your body has been thru a lot and needs time to recover. Hopefully life won't get too much in the way and you can sleep, probably the best healing for you right now anyway. Try to get some protien in, that should help with energy. I'm doing pretty well today. Pain in the shoulder is mostly gone. The cuts are a bit tender but not too bad. I just noticed they shaved my belly (TMI) and it's starting to itch a bit which is annoying.

One week ago today, I was at work waiting to leave for my 11:30 surgery. I'd decided to go to the office because it was easier than sitting here waiting.... It's been an interesting one week journey, and I sit here drinking my oh so delicious Carnation Instant Breakfast. (That's sarcasm by the way.) Thought I'd share my observations, they are very random and sometimes TMI! 1. I have cabin fever. Yesterday I did a lot, but today is a blank agenda. I'd love to go out, but my street is like a skating rink. Fear of falling outweighs the cabin fever. Have this image of my gut splitting open while I'm laying on a cold bed of ice. Don't want to go there. 2. Speaking of my gut part 1. It looks like an evil rainbow. I have yellow, blue, purple, green splotches everywhere. No red or pink though! Have 2 hematomas, one where the drain was, and the other dead center under my belly button. Evil rainbow it is. 3. My gut part 2. I carry all my weight in my belly. Frankly I have great legs. My feet look skeletal. (Do you lose shoe sizes with wls?) Checking that out in a bit. Meanwhile, my belly is like a basketball on top and a swim ring on the bottom. Not pretty. I want this gone. Note to self-look up losing belly fat that doesn't involve a tv infomercial. 4. Mindful eating is a wonderful thing. I really need to focus when I eat. (Well, drink at this point). I forget to sip and take 2 gulps and I feel it. Boy do I feel it. No more glugging water! 5. If you told me a month ago I could survive without my morning coffee I would have told you it is impossible. Actually, I'm doing okay without it. Miss it though. 6. Speaking of eating and drinking, so far I haven't had to deal with the 30 minute rule yet, but I think it will be difficult to keep in mind. 7. I haven't logged on MFP cause I'm tired of seeing. "You're in starvation mode....." Cut me a break here okay. I decided after the one week lapse, I'd start again today. Give me strength to do this. 8. Mostly I'm pain free, but occasionally get these weird stomach pains. Can't describe them. Rolling, clutching. ouch? It's centered where my stomach was. Then I usually pass gas from one end or the other. Heading into TMI land. 9. Someone here has a list that states, "Never trust a fart." I can attest to it's validity. Nuff said. 10.I'm disappointed that my hunger isn't gone, but from reading these boards I realize that it will get much better once I can start some solids. 11. These boards are a life saver. They are amazing, and I am overwhelmed by the support, compassion, and occasional tough love I see on here. I value each and everyone of you that shares your story on here, and helps each other out. We are comrades on this battle to fight our obesity, and gain better health. I'm thrilled to have you at my back. Now for a nap!

Does anyone else get food stuck in their throat?
MB0116 replied to MB0116's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It gets stuck right behind my thyroid (where my Adam's apple would be if I were a man. Originally I'd thought mt thyroid was swollen and causing an obstruction. So it doesn't get down very far at all. In fact if I just stick out my tongue the food comes back up. Sorry if that's TMI. -

Post-op Day 2: Today's Entertainment Brought To You By The Letter G
meloney posted a blog entry in A Year of Possibilities
So, today I am feeling a bit weird. Weak. Stoned (as one of my bandster friends said). Or like I just took some antihistamines. I think this is because I did not eat nearly enough yesterday. Not just protein, but anything. I wasn't hungry. I'm not hungry today, but I'm making myself eat. Frozen fruit pop, stock with protein added, jello. The doctor even said I can do yogurt at this point but, as I'm not a huge fan I would prefer not. I also did not get enough water in yesterday, so I'm having to remind myself to drink, drink, drink. Which leads me to the letter G. G stands for Gas. Yes, gas. I have gas. On surgery day, the gas was really noticeable. It made me feel like someone punched me in my gut (another G). As the days progress, the gas gets less, but it is still there nonetheless. Thus, I make a point of getting up and moving frequently. This results in some rather significant belches, followed by my utterance of another G: "That was glorious." I'm not saying this to anyone in particular, as I live alone. I'm not even saying it to my cat, who is very sad that she cannot climb up on my belly for cuddles. I simply say it because each large belch really is glorious. The not so glorious end of the gas is the farting. When I feel a fart come along, I must extricate myself from my bed and go to the bathroom because, more often than not and my apologies for the TMI, the fart is accompanied by diarrhea. Granted, this could be worse. My bathroom is only a few steps from my bed and the diarrhea is not of the sort that results in an RBA (raw, burning a**hole). So, as it is right now, I am accepting of the farting. Yet another end of the gas is the third G for today's installment: Gurgling. When I walk, I gurgle. When I lay, I gurgle. And when I drink, I gurgle even more. I have a veritable symphony of gurgling going on in my gullet. I should start laying some notes down on staff, that's how musical my insides have become. I am like Pooh Bear. There is a rumbly in my tumbly. Tomorrow, I am hoping for less gas and more feeling like myself. But for today, I will continue my Will & Grace marathon and enjoy the cacophony of sounds emanating from my abdomen. -
Could I possibly have became lactose intolerant since my surgery? I was banded 12/15. It seems like everytime I drink milk, I immediately get stomach cramps and pains. Then the gas starts. I'm use to the gas since I get it with pretty much anything but after that starts, the cramps get worse and then I get extreme liquid shits (Sorry for the TMI!). I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. It seems to only be with milk.

One week post op, put potato chips in my mouth then spit out, same with peanuts, and some cheddar chip.

This is not a good thing to do. It's a sign of a deeper issue, so I've been told. Stick to the plan. Try something savory that's on your diet. Are you in clear liquids still or full liquids or even soft foods- by then my plan allowed for soft foods like scrambled eggs or cottage cheese. Maybe try some broth with spices. Find a good substitute for what you are craving. At this point it's probably head hunger. You are just missing food. I say this with a all of my 5 week experience (lol) but also with experience with my husband who had RNY 11 years ago. He struggled with his plan and went in to eat he wrong things and ended up having slot of throwing up spells. He lost the weight but it hasn't been a fun journey. If you are really struggling you should find a good counselor to help you figure out what your issues with food are. My dad would make dinner a nightmare I can still feel the lump in it throat - clear that plate. It was a long time before o could leave any food on my plate. I created kids who won't try anything new because I couldn't do that to them. They have awful eating habits because they hate vegetables and I couldn't make them try them more than once. Anyway... tmi- you gained the weight probably from an unhealthy relationship with food that was either physical or psychological or both and should figure out out why if you haven't already. I hope that helps.ill be praying! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 198 GW 135 -
OMG.... I have the worse gas. It varies based on what I eat, but I could clear a room if I wanted. I get horrible gas pains if I hold it in (sorry TMI) and I'm at work and I cannot walk away fast enough some days. I find that it's more on days that I add spinach to my smoothies or higher fatty foods like avocados. Beans, too I guess. It's just become a part of my life now. I get it when I walk or excercise. It's embarrassing and I wish it wouldn't happen. My poor son hates to run errands with me,... I'll just start walking away really fast go down a different aisle.

Ever since surgery I feel my tonsils. What the heck?!
DallasSleeve replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine felt like that too from weeks 3-5 and I think it was just acid. TMI- but if I made myself burp over and over, it would go away for a few minutes. It was very uncomfortable and my dr was even thinking I might have had a stricture, then one day I woke up and it was gone! My dr (and some people on this board) suggested prilosec and that might have helped too. -
Hi all, I'm home. Thanks so much for the positive notes. I am banded, hurting and just wanting to feel stronger. This was definitely not as easy as some make it out to be. And, if you knew me, would know I am not a whiner. But, I guess everyone's experience is different. The gas pain is horrible and its moving no where (I know TMI). I had one of my sons place his hand on my tummy and he was shocked. Had some issues with shallow breathing and very low BP in the hospital (I normally run high), but things have stabilized. (Okay, maybe I'm whining now a little bit). Thanks again. I'm off to get some rest. -Trishadish

Painful Port Incision
PaulaTx replied to underyellowmoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
eszymanski, I go back to work on Monday too. I'm hoping most of this pain is gone by then. I really need to go to the bathroom but I'm unable to (sorry if that's TMI) . I'm sure that would help with the gas. Good luck! -
I'm five months post op and I've thrown up no more than 6 or 7 times...for me, I know it's coming because my mouth gets all watery and spitty...then when it comes out...TMI alert...it's slow, not forceful Nd not at all projectile. Hope that helps.

Warning: not for the squeamish or those who don’t want TMI. My apologies, it’s been a while since I posted. I’m 5+ weeks post-surgery and things have been going generally well. That is, except for an unending pain from a hiatal hernia (so sez me about the cause, though not my surgeon – I know better, ha!) and some discomfort from eating. I lost 32 lbs. since surgery and 50 since pre-op. I didn’t wanna post here how fantastic I was doing since that would seem to be boasting and minimize the problems for those that have very real problems, especially those not caused by stoooopidity. I have no real complaints except the pain from the hernia. Until today! While this is extremely embarrassing, I’m posting it with the thought that it might help someone else. I’ve been following the diet instructions from my nut and getting lots of exercise. However, last night, my craving for chocolate got the better of me. I wasn’t really hungry, but my craving was real. I did something I knew I shouldn’t – I made chocolate pudding. I know I’m a sucker for this stuff and one or two or five spoonfuls doesn’t suffice. But I thought I could control myself. This time. I used My-T-Fine sugar-free with skim milk. It’s sooooo good. It’s on my approved foods list. I haven’t had it since pre-op where I repeated the same mistake though not with the same consequences. Before that, I hadn’t had it since my mom started making it on the stove. Ten-years-old and I’d spoon out the left-overs from the cooking pot after mom poured the pudding into cups. She wouldn’t allow me anymore. Smart mom. I proceeded to do the same last night. But after spooning the leftovers from the pot, 15 minutes later I had one of the cups that I poured. Another 15 minutes and another cup. Until it was gone. I ate the whole friggin’ batch! However, no side effects and I went to sleep feeling fine. I woke up this morning feeling fine and planning on going to the gym. Then, the cramps started and worsened. I went to the toilet and a few pebbles came out, but no ease of my discomfort. I sat on the toilet for 45 minutes and nothing. I kept on feeling worse and worse. I took Gas-X and the anti-spasm medicine for the first time, the medicine I had gotten at the hospital. No let up in the pain and I was ready to write in blood that f890’ing chocolate pudding did me in! Really, the pain was so bad that I was getting ready to call the emergency number for the surgeon’s office. The longest hour of my life seemed to go by with increasing pain and discomfort. Then, miraculously, I had a bowel movement of boulders and it was over. I don’t know if was any of the medicine or things just ran the natural course. All I know is that I’m cured of chocolate pudding or doing anything so stupid again. I hope.

I'm not sleeved yet, but weight training has been a big part of both my life and my husband's life (we actually met in a weight room--okay TMI). Anyway, your hypothesis makes sense. What about a 2 day split? Upper on one day, lower on the second? I remember reading an article in Muscle & Fitness about the benefits of being a weekend warrior. The problem with 3/4/5 day splits, especially with upper body, is that even though your isolating the muscle, other muscles are still being used; hence, inability to fully heal. As a "weekend warrior" you're targeting all your muscles in a short amount of time and allowing maximum healing time. I know that when my husband and I got carried away with life events and weight training got pushed to the back burner, we tended to experience greater gains in strength and mass due to the muscles having some r&r healing time.

I was sleeved on the 18 th too! Congrats to u!!! I haven't passed any gas either. Had a few small burps but that was it. My pain has been more from gas and the bad headache I got from the morphine. They ended up giving me toradol and that helped much better than the morphine. Have u had any trouble keeping stuff down? I had 3 baby spoon worth of vanilla chobani yogurt when I got home and it slide right back up. I'm supposed to be doing all liquids and that includes Greek yogurt without bit of fruit in it; low fat cream soups strained; sugar free pudding and jello... nothing feels good once I swallow. Wondering if my sleeve is still too swollen to handle anything other than liquids. I think I'm calling the nutritionist tomorrow just to check. I don't want to lose muscle mass or hair. Oh and have you tried gas x strips or chewables? I chewed up 2 today and it seemed to help get stuff moving. No gas out but it did help with a small bm. Tmi but hope it helps! Keep in touch. Love finding all these sleeve sisters!

No butts about it
lisacaron replied to JustWatchMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@JustWatchMe OK now you make me rethink this again....I have had stomach and bowel issues my whole life. However..nothing created the roids until I had my first son. Pushing that little sucker out into the world created a bunch of little annoyances I have had for the last 26 years. Now I'm sure I didn't help by pushing and pushing and not breathing and then taking a deep breath after a push and sucking that little guy right back up instead of OUT. So a few years after I had my last son a Dr. asked me about this operation..and I said I'll think about it since they don't really bother me. Then a co-worker a few years after that had it done and I heard about the painful recovery and I said NOPE with my fat fanny no one is gonna care so why should I they don't bother me. OK well now that the fanny is not so "fat" even though it's still a biggin and it sits on my back I have a very tiny torso so it's all TnA (I know TMI) and now...those little buggers bug me. I recently told hubs I might do this after all...and now...yeah Ima rethinking that thought. -
Here's a little story ya'll might find amusing. Back when I was trying to lose weight pre sleeve I had heard about the wonders of chia seeds. So I went to the Health food Store and bought a decent size container. Rushed home ready and raring to try them out. I quickly skimmed over the directions... Take 2 TEASPOONS... Upon opening the container there was one of those measuring cups inside, the kind that comes in cans of coffee. I failed to notice the measurements on the side of it and proceeded to mix 2 of the measuring cups of chia seeds into a container of strawberry yogurt and downed it as fast as I could. I was fine for an hour or so. Then I started getting an uneasy feeling. My stomach was rumbling and grumbling and next thing I know I have to go running for the bathroom. I then spent the next 6 hours making regular trips to the bathroom with explosive diarrhea, cursing my decision to buy chia seeds. LOL <-- sorry if the last part is TMI Lesson learned: ALWAYS read the side of the cup for proper measurement!

Love/hate Relationship, 2.5 Years Post-Surgery
CurvyCat replied to CurvyCat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks, y'all. I do take it slowly, I think I am just sensitive to the restriction sensation, which makes the band problematic for me. I've tried varying levels of fills. Back and forth, filled and unfilled. I'm at 6.5cc now, which might be a touch too much, but 6cc is like being completely unfilled -- nothing stopping me at all from eating as much as I want. So, I'm trying to hang in there at this fill level and figure out something that will work for me food-wise to take the rest of the weight off. Then I can tackle maintenance maybe at a different level without the stuck/upchuck issues. haha I don't think a revision to sleeve would be covered by insurance as I haven't gained the weight back -- I've just been totally unable to lose any more. Thus far, no slipping. The process of the food coming back up isn't particularly harsh or vomit-y -- just kind of like a PB, but I do get tired of waiting for it to decide whether or not it's going to do it and I help it along. Sometimes all I have to do is bend over the toilet and up it comes. If I wait it out through the more uncomfortable episodes, it seems even MORE sensitive afterwards, whereas if I get rid of the offending food right away, it's not so much. I do "help" with a swallow or two of Water if I know it's already going to come back up so it's not trying to push out something thick, so what comes back up is like Soup (sorry if TMI). Otherwise I do follow the "rules" and I do not drink with meals - only when I can feel that it is already stuck and going to make a return trip up. Thanks so much for the feedback. I was blogging, but it was hard when it just became month after month of the same plateau and problems. A girl's gotta vent sometimes, though! -
Okay fellow dsers, vets, or anyone passed me two months out. Why does my food taste so different its nasty at first it was the chicken now that i was able to move up to ground beef that taste like shyte literally. Yes dont judge people what i mean is (tmi time)when i use the restroom it is still baby type poop which has a baby type milk poop smell. I have that taste in my mouth all the time. Nothing tastes normal not coffee, not my Beans, not tea, or any of the allowed meats. All i taste is what i think the whey smells like after your body processes it. Somebody please tell me you know what im talking about its getting me down in the dumps. I know that food is fuel not for enjoyment now but come on. It has gotten to a point where i force my self to eat and try not to gag. Sorry for the rant but just needed to vent i guess anyone got some story on how to make this better. I know it will eventually go away its the when part that gots me down. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

I went for my 1 week check up today. My doc checked my wounds, and asked me if I wanted a fill. I have so much restriction right now, I do not need one. I can barely eat, and am rarely hungry. I said no fill for me, and he was fine. My doc said he wanted me to hop under the xray to look at my band and port. He said, some docs put the port into muscle, but he doesnt. so it can move a little. He said, the xray doesnt show which way around the port is, so he wants to put the needle in to check:blink::redface: Here I was, thinking I was avoiding a fill (and happily avoiding a needle), but then turns out he still wants to jab me. I tried to get out of it, but I lost the arguement. It barely hurt, and I felt like such a baby. I wont be scared next time I go when I actually need a fill. But I wonder, when will that be? I feel tight all the time. My trip to the doctors, 1.5 hrs each way, was my first excursion since my surgery. I've just got home, and I'm very sore, stomach muscles aching. I think I overdid myself a little. On a good note, yesterday I went to my chemist, and asked for something to relieve the gas, and I took whatever it is she gave me (its written in Korean, so I have no idea!). This morning I woke up and did 2 of the biggest farts since my surgery. I felt so much better!! Seriously, TMI, but who cares. Relief!! Thought I should put my typical eating at the moment: Breakfast: Cup of Yogurt (runny kind) Lunch: Soup (either corn, mushroom, broccoli, or pumpkin. very basic.) one pack is 150g, and I never finish half. Smoothie: 100g yogurt, banana, and some milk. Dinner: One scarmbled egg, (hard to finish, last night) or tonight, 2 pieces of large spinach mozarella ravoili, cut up and chewed a gazillion times, and 1 tablespoon of mashed potato with milk in it. I try to drink as much water or very watered down juice as I can in between meals. The waiting to drink after a meal is hard. I know I need more, and I'm hoping to get some protein shakes this weekend to help me meet the minimum. I'm probably only managing 20-30 grams so far, and I think thats being generous. I was 105kgs pre surgery, (231lbs) I'm 98kgs, (216lbs) 7kgs/15lbs in less than a week? I think I should start my ticker!!!:frown:
