To Barf, Or Not To Barf?... That Is The Question.
sabrina140 replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After posting that I had the same thought as you... walked in to the bathroom and let it out. (Sorry again, tmi)... I must have chewed really good, because it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be... tummy is happy again. Wheeeew. SLOW DOWN SABRINA (<-- note to self! >_< ) -
No more sirloin steak. I'm strictly filet mignon now. Or it just comes back up. Sorry for the TMI.

Let me start by saying this might be TMI for some so if it is please pass over it and don't be offended. I am about seven weeks post band. Before my band I struggled with bouts of constipation. It would happen occasionally and I would take Milk of Mag (MOM) when it happened. The MOM helped but iit always gave me sever diaraherra. Since the band I simply cannot get rid of the constipation. It's getting horrendous. I strain to the point of bleeding. I know this isn't good. My doctor said don't use the MOM. She suggested Colace which is a stool softner. I've been taking the max dose PLUS a cup of prune juice every day. I'm STILL constipated. I tired Miralax and that did nothing. The doctor suggested Benefiber but told me that would make me really gassy and I'm already having problems with severe gas along with the consitpation. I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions? I just want to be able to use the bathroom! I bought some Benefiber today and I'm going to try that gas or not! I guess people will just need to stand clear of me...

No kidding. I went for a followup with my nutritionist and she's got me reading about "Lactate Thresholds' and heart monitoring. Geez, I never had any of this information 40 years ago wen I was in high school and running. This might be TMI in the real sense of the words.

Overweight Family/friends
RossJL replied to ProudGrammy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Likasulema, Lol you make me giggle :-) its not TMI, we are all adults here! The fact of the matter is that the better you feel as in knees, back etc... The more exciting and pleasurable the experience is between husband and wife, there's nothing shameful about that! I personally am excited to get back to my old sex drive because the more weight I gained and the more exhausted I stayed and the more self conscious I got the more it affected that experience between us. Good luck to you!! -
my DH is morbise, he has really never tried to lose weight. he is 55 and i am 58 yrs. young- his weight doesn't bother him/he does support my losing weight cuz he enjoys the "less" of me for different reasons i.e. sex TMI? - but i also for that too reason would appreciate if he lost some weight. i have a variety of family/friends that are overweight also pushing the unreal foods and servings on me wanting to go out to dinner - like i used to. Its like they want me to join the party of being oerweight like they are, so i can be included in the club - just wondering about others - thanx kathy

Flame Free Friday Confessions!
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had coffee and a cake donut at a 3 ½ hour long meeting Wednesday. I eat the donut in batches of 3 it took about 1 ½ hours and I had no real issues I felt the restriction and wasn’t over full, however by the end of the day I had to go to the bathroom (TMI) because my stomach felt upset, I thought I would have diarrhea but I didn’t. So what I learn is that donuts can be done with my sleeve and I get restriction but shouldn’t be done because of the tummy issues. -
Thanks guys for all these posts. I was banded 7/7/11 and have lost 85 pounds. I have a 10 cc band and I don't know how much is in it but I think around 5-6cc. I don't feel any restriction yet but do see the doctor on Friday of this week. I have not had a fill since December and it is time to do one again. I get very hungry between meals..not a good sign. My new problem is BLOATING. I feel like a beached whale with an intertube around my lower abdomen. I have enough gas to fill a taker truck and I can clear a room (sorry , I know TMI) when the gas decides it is time to leave the body. My stomach makes so much noise I can't attend the weekly business meetings here at work, the whole room laughs at my belly noises (not me). HELP ! I told the doctor and he shruded it off - I don't get it. Something is causing this and it is related to the band/diet as I did not have this before. I have gone from a 20W in slacks to a 14 but every few days the 14's get very tight in the waist and this tube developes around my middle. I have tried Gas X and more Water, no carbonated drinks and stepping up the exercise but "really" !!! this is the pits and I would like my doctor to care as much as I do. I have had no complaints with him until now, but he and I are going to talk this Friday !!! FYI, I am doing a 5K on Saturday - maybe I can walk off some of this "GAS" !!! Has anyone else had this problem and if so..what did your doctor say and what did you do about it....I really need you help/advice.....I love my band (with plication) but not the gas/bloating/stinky stuff...HELP !!!!!!!!! The Scale Lies!
kimmy*custis replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just made my day! I did the same thing! I now just weigh myself in the am, naked right before the shower ( TMI, sorry) I was amazed how much clothing weighs and yes, the liquid we are drinking is waaay more than you would think. Thanks for the post, you made me smile! -
Like Paola, I don't find that thin liquids fill me up quickly. I had a bowl of egg drop soup and almost finished the hole thing. I did not rush eating it, though. I sipped it over about 20-30 minutes or so. With cream soups, about a 1/3 cup and I was satisfied. The key is to eat/drink slowly and gauge how you're feeling. For me, when I feel satisfied, I just stop regardless of how much or how little I've consumed. Like you, I figure I'd rather be safe than sorry. My goal is to try to get through this process without puking (sorry if that's tmi). Sleeved 2-27-12

Caradina - I totally understand what you mean. I'm 34 and only received my diagnoses when I was 27, but I'm pretty sure I've had it since I was a teenager. One of my reasons for this surgery is related to exactly what you said, its time to start living. Cris - We can do this! And thank you. I appreciate hearing everyone's story, they're all different, but they give a good look at the possible hurdles. I'm prepared for the worst recovery ever, and if it goes smooth sailing, that will just be that much better. I am lucky in that I know 4 people who have had sleeve surgery, and speak to 2 of them on a regular basis. They both have been so supportive, and honest down to the TMI details about what to expect. I'm finally to a place mentally where, even though there is still the fear of the unknown, I'm like... let's do this! -
What Is/was Your Favorite Blender Food Combo?
Ms skinniness replied to Dooter's topic in Purée (stage 2)
Mushies too me were like soups, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, yogurt, sf pudding. I actually skipped the pureed stage bc the thought made me want to throw up. Sorry TMI. -
Okay so I literally JUST realized that I am one pound away from losing half of what I need to lose! OMG! That's a crazy thought! In less than 4 months!! I hope to keep going at this rate, but I'll be realistic. I know weight loss tends to slow down as you go along. On top of that, I have 4 more pounds to lose to finally be under 200. That's totally awesome. I love my band so much! I mentioned in the title "problems." Some of this is TMI, so if you don't want to read it, you can click out. However, I wanted to share to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. I often found myself stuck on in the bathroom trying to have a BM. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. This morning, it was for 40 minutes and I was unsuccessful. LOL. Sorry, I have to laugh or I'll realize how disgusting this really is. Anyways, I was late to work by 15 minutes because of my issue. This isn't the first time either. It's just kind of ridiculous. I eat prunes and I've been trying to drink more water. I'm trying to take the natural route before I implement any kind of medicine. Tomorrow is my next fill appointment. My doc usually leaves me the option to choose whether I want a fill or not. As always, I'm not sure! I usually fill out a chart, but honestly, that doesn't really help. It asks me what I eat. I purposely choose not to eat sweets, pastas and bread, so me checking no on that doesn't necessarily mean I don't need a fill. It just means I know how to make better choices. Anyways, last week, I did get stuck a little bit and had to throw up. Also, Saturday, I was not able to finished my broiled crab cake. I've also lost 12 pounds this past month. However, there have been meals where I know I could have finished it if I wanted to. Meaning, no restriction. I still feel restriction every so often, but not enough that I feel completely confident in telling my doctor I don't want a fill. I am leaning more towards getting the fill. The way I see it, if I'm too tight, I'll just go back for a little unfill. I want consistent restriction, not hit or miss. Oh I've also noticed that I haven't been as hungry or been thinking about food as often. I have to remind myself to eat sometimes. Just my rambles! Feel free to chime in with any opinions or advice on anything I mentioned. Thanks!!

What Does Being "stuck" Feel Like?
kittyforet replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been stuck more times that I would like. It's all been my fault. I'm working on it though. Sometimes the papaya enzymes work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the jumping (or doing the chicken dance) works, sometimes it doesn't. I've also tried the pineapple juice...just a warning though, it tastes worse coming back up!! Almost nothing worse than (tmi warning!!) pineapple juice vomit. Blech. Most of my issues are either first bite syndrome or when I don't chew/take a small enough bite. And I've learned that if I'm stuck due to not chewing or taking a large bite, I can GUARANTEE that I will continue to be stuck the rest of the day if I try to eat food...I find that I MUST go to liquids the rest of the day. If i dont pay attention to this, everything i try the rest of the day will come back up. Dealt with this yesterday. If I get stuck from the first or second bite, then once it goes down or comes back up, I'm ok to eat like I'm supposed to for the rest of the day. It's almost like my band gives me a warning to really slow down. I'm one of the weird ones that never slime before it comes back up...once I get stuck, I can cough it out and get the slime only then. Usually it comes (the mucus) out my nose, again tmi, so I make sure to take napkins/baby wipes with me at all times. And for me I've only pb'd over the sink. Too scared because of the auto flush feature to try the toilet. Last week I got stuck at church and didn't want everyone to see me at the sink, so I made sure to take an empty cup into the restroom stall with me and pb'd into that and then flushed the gunk. Being stuck is no fun. But for most of us, its part of the learning curve of being banded. What everyone else has said about how it feels is right. It's painful. Rock in your chest. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk -
I've now had my period for 10 days. It is kind of light, but still I'm passing clots. I'm kind of getting a little worried. I usually go for 4-5 days. Also even the beginning of this period was weird, usually I start cramping a number of days prior, and get cramps on the day I start. This time. No cramps prior and none on the day of. I don't completely keep track, but it just showed up, and thinking back, it was on time. But I'm concerned I'm still bleeding. I was going to give it a couple more days before I call my gyno. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice. With all my weight loss so far, my period has always been consistent, so I'm unsure what changed, and I haven't lost a lot of weight recently. I did have a big drop last week (3.8lb), but over the last 5 months or so, I've only lost 15lb. Any advice is welcomed. TIA

So I've been banded about 9 months. I have 8cc's in my 11 cc realize band. I had my last fill about a month ago. I felt tight in the morning, loosening up during the day. Went out for dinner one night and got stuck bad on a piece of lettuce. Threw up 3 times and went on liquids for 3 days to give it a break. Everything went back to normal. That was about a month ago. This past week or so, I've been so tight I can barely get anything down. Sometimes I can't even swallow a full mouthful of Water without pain and burping it back up. So my question is - am I too tight? Do I have a slip? Or is this the way the band really works and I'm not working it correctly? I'm chewing the bejesus out of everything, eating slow ect... Also, way tmi, but when I threw up, it was this giant mucus ball. Never actually threw up the food. What does that mean? I have a dr appointment on the 13th, just hoping to get some insight before then. Can only live on frozen yogurt and girl scout Cookies for so long!

FAIR WARNING: TMI ALERT! TMI ALERT! I had THREE consecutive nsv's today, and they all had to do with a flight to San Antonio. First of all, since the beginning of the pre op diet, then surgery, I've lost 34 pounds. Today, I saw the fruit of my labors. NSV #1: I went into the public bathroom at the airport, and the handicap stall was full, so I went into the teeny cramped one, hoping I (TMI! TMI!) didn't need to do a "twosey" because I can't reach the necessary location on my anatomy for proper cleansing unless I'm in the big stall. (I hope some of you know what I mean so i'm not a total freak!) Well, it turns out I would have had COMPLETE access to the necessary area!! HOORAAAAYYYY!!!! #2: I sat down in the airplane and BUCKLED MY SEATBELT!!!!!!! AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! AAAANNNND......... #3: Put the tray table DOWN!!! WOOOOO!!!!! UH HUH!! OH YA!!! UH HUH!!! OH YA!!! (then my day went downhill at dinnertime, but that's a different post! Still happy though!)

Is Stretching A Real Concern? How Do You Avoid It?
Rootman replied to sirensiren's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WARNING TMI: I'm out 14 months and last Friday night we went for hamburgers at Red Robin. I had a turkey burger and ate less than 1/2 the bun and fixin's and all the turkey patty, I also had maybe 6 steak fries and two small bites of my wifes dessert and was in distress almost immediately. I hocked up two big mouths of phlemmy nasty stuff before giving up to it and finally barfing up ONE mouthful of vomit. Instant and total relief. So what would of been a light snack a few years ago was TOO much today. So at 14 months the restriction is still good for me. I picture the stomach as a kind of a saggy balloon, not the smallish kids balloon but a larger maybe latex, it's got TWO opening though, the output opening has a valve to keep it normally sealed. It's hung from the top opening and the other opning is more to the side on a slant from the top. It has a tougher band running across the top edge that doesn't stretch much and is there to hang the whole thing on, the bottom can stretch a LOT. During the VSG a majority of the bottom stretchy part is removed and you are left with more of a tube than a saggy balloon. The bottom cut is sealed with staples and heals with a thick ridge of scar tissue - which if you have any scars you know it does NOT stretch. The part between the bottom scar and the thick upper part DOES stretch - SOME. Remember it's limited somewhat by being so close to the thick upper part and the new scar. So YES it does stretch but not NEAR the amount the old stomach could, and even then they BOTH spring back to the original shape pretty fast and never stayed stretched. Of MORE concern is developing bad habits post sleeve and starting to snack all the time, therefore never hitting the restriction and eating too many calories over the course of the day. -
58 Weeks Post-Op: Hurry Up Weekend And A Public Stuck
EdmontonGal posted a blog entry in Jen's Jabbers
This weeks weigh in: 175.4lbs. Down .6lbs this week. I went to a step class Friday. It kicked my ass and I loved every minute of it. Trying to use the toilet or climb stairs on Saturday SUCKED but it was that good good pain. I sweat my ass off through a tank and a t-shirt! GOOD STUFF! Phew! Work has been crazy and although my daily eating habits are just fine despite being out for work dinners almost every week night for the last week and all of this week too. At one of the dinners, I tried a few bites of a hot dog A HOT DOG!!! I haven't had a hot dog in forever. It smelled horribly delicious at the table next to us and I wanted mine with mustard. Tons of mustard. I had a bite and it was all good. Not quite what I imagined it to taste like but I settled on the compromise that since it was not a 10 out of 10, I would only have a few small bites and leave it alone. Well, I did have a few small bites while keeping up the conversation with a few folks. I must have been distracted because on my 3rd bite, about an 1/8th of the way in to this guilty pleasure, I felt a funny swallow. It was too big. I was going to get stuck at a work dinner. FABO! I quietly (couldn't talk) excused myself, went straight to the bathroom and was horrified to see 5 little girls playing around in and out of the 2 stalls. There was a line up! I could not imagine letting these innocent little darlings watch me lose my lunch into the garbage can, but it was coming. I couldn't open my mouth to tell them to hurry or get out of the way... so I waited swallowing hard, rocking the cold sweat and pacing. Finally, they left and I went straight in to the stall and effortlessly just spat it right out. Not to go in to TMI but this piece of hot dog that was causing all of this, was the size of a small pea. My vitamins are bigger than this. WTF? Lesson learned. Farewell hot dogs... I will miss you but my ass will not. Apparently, I have tricked myself in to believing that they taste a whole lot better than they really do. This weekend the hubby and I are hitting the slopes at Marmot Basin. A whole weekend away together... alone! I don't know if we have ever done this. I am really excited about us being able to share another hobby! I love the Rocky Mountains and I love Jasper, Alberta almost as much as I love the ocean. There is something to be said about a heard of elk greeting you at your door in the morning and the surrounding views of the Rocky Mountains. When I was younger I used to dream about building my own little cabin way up there in the bush with a zip line just for me to take my trips to town for supplies. Although I still love the idea, I know that I would never survive! lol. I love the outdoors and am so fortunate to live where I do. The promise of this will get me through this week! Check out one of the Travel Alberta Commercials: If anyone ever wants to come visit Canada for a BOOBS tour - let me know! lol. Sadly, I will not be making Chicago this year. I had hoped to but with the wedding in April (38 days until departure to be exact) and an awesome week-long road-trip with the Besties to Vancouver Island in July, I won't be able to afford it. It doesn't help that September is black out month for all of the field executives at work either. Maybe 2013! More news; My Mom had decided to have Bypass surgery in May after the Mexico trip. She has started a blog and when she figures out how to send me a link, I will share it with you all. I am really excited for her and she has worked really hard at all of this for a while now. She is down 30ish lbs so far and I only see her working harder and harder. Allot of the work has been on her own and she has even been trying to motivate some of the girls that she has met through different nutrition and psych classes that she has attended. I am proud of her and cannot wait for her to tap in to the wonderful world of support in blogland! Stay tuned! Take Care all and please keep your fingers crossed for me to escape the weekend without injury! -
I was diagnosed w/ a band slip in October of 2011, and I'm scheduled for a revision on March 27th. Anyway, I'm all nervous about my band killing me in the mean time. I've had most of the fill removed, but I still have a touch of restriction occasionally So lately, sometimes when I eat, I get a weird pain in my abdomen. Not up in my chest hear my band, but lower near my port, sometimes it feels even lower than that. I don't have any problems swallowing or anything, but like standing up after eating sort of hurts. I've also felt a twinge of pain (or something) when I twist wrong when I'm laying in bed. Also, sorry for the TMI, but my abdomen aches lots of times after I go #2. Thoughts on that? I'm seriously terrified of erosion. I'm planning on doing my revision in 1 surgery, and I don't want anything screwing it up.

Plastic Surgery After Lapband
luvmy2dogs replied to oldiebutgoodie2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for your thoughts. I firmly believe running is what keeps my weight off. My eating has increased since I had my band done almost 4 years ago. I'm pretty much maxed out on my fill, and don't have a ton of restriction, so I have to do something to keep the weight in check. ha! I visited with a couple surgeons, and most will do the tummy tuck and breast lift together. They don't like to do tummy and legs, because I guess with tummy you hunch over, and with legs you are supposed to stay straight, so one would kind of outdo the other. I haven't even asked about face, etc.. Congrats. on your arms. I would like to have mine done, but I had to pick my battles. I can only do this once. $$$ does not allow a multiple surgery, so I chose the two parts I want to do most. My breasts have tons of skin, and it flaps when I run, even with the best bra possible. (I know tmi) hahah sounds nasty ha? My stomach isn't terrible, but def have a slight apron, and I figure since I'm doing one anyway, I would go for it. Maybe down the road I can do another part if I win the lottery, lol. Thanks again for getting back to me. I'm going to see another surgeon next week. -
Constipation has been a problem for me also, I tired the fiber tablets and other stuff but it gives me so much gas that my family can't stand to be in the same room with me. Sorry TMI! Make sure you drink your water and exercise I have found this helps me some.
