  1. Try not to be too hard on yourself, this journey is TOUGH! You're actually doing quite well, as others have said. My gastric bypass surgery was 3/29. I started at 204 lbs day of surgery, and I'm down 36 lbs as of last week. Very similar results and my team says I'm right on track. The hair loss is devastating, I totally get it. Today has been the worst by far, but I have to keep reminding myself it's temporary. Hang in there and stay with it - you are doing very well!! Sent from my SM-F926U using BariatricPal mobile app

This stall is breaking my spirit.

I'm right there with ya. Nearly all of the weight I've lost in the six weeks since my surgery, was in the first two weeks. I've have incremental loss, but I've also had gains. I've been stalled for 10 days now, and I, like you, feel like it's too early in the process to not have this weight just falling off considering how little I'm eating. However, forums like this one and a few conversations with my dietician keep me from being totally distraught. We know it's going to come off, but if you're like me, you'd like to get the first 30-40 off quickly to start feeling better. What I've lost so far isn't enough to make me feel substantially better. Speaking of which, I can't seem to figure out how to edit my profile to track my weight. Is that like a paid feature or am I just missing something? There's no edit button for those stats. This is a great forum though, so I'm really glad I found it.
  4. The stalls get longer the further you get into the post op process. My first one (from my first surgery) was 1 week, then the next was 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, then 3 weeks again, then 4 weeks, then 5 weeks. After that, I didn't really have any, but the weight loss slows way down. I had the revision from sleeve to bypass because of gerd, but it doesn't seem to have helped so far. I'm hoping it will start to improve, but so far, I'm still in the same boat I was in pre-surgery. I can definitely say I missed 2 weeks of work with the sleeve and had A LOT of pain. With the revision to bypass, I was pain free after 4 days and moving around easily. I kind of wish I had just done the bypass to begin with, because the sleeve has caused me way more problems than it solved.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I’m struggling to but I’m like forget it lol. I would prefer a list of what to eat but they said start adding things. I scan everything I buy to make sure it’s ok. The pork rinds are great for that chip craving but I only eat like 4. Great protein. For me I’m just trying things out and seeing if they work. Still pretty bland but I have had shrimp and ground beef tacos on those keto street tacos. This week flavored drinks are giving me problems so only water right now doesn’t make my stomach gurgling. It’s all new but we getting there.

    Food Aversions After Surgery

I am 10 weeks post op and I don’t know if this counts as a good aversion but right now everything I eat tates horrible. I have been cleared to eat just about whatever I want but I can only tolerate fruit, a few tortilla chips and sugar free popsicles. Does anyone have any tips on restoring my taste buds?

    July 2023 buddies

Just wanted to check in with the July People. I had my Gastric Sleeve on July 6th. No Complications, as of today I am 14 lbs lights so thats 2 weeks after surgery. I had very mild pain, returned to work after 6 days. Check up with the doctor today and he says Im recovering well and quickly. I been stuck at 14 lbs lost for 3 days now, so I hope to break that this week. My goal for the Month is at least 20 lbs. I wish everyone else the speediest recovery and prayers as well. Kinda got to say...don't really like my Chewable vitamins that much....may need to look at other option/brands.
  11. Stalls are the absolute pits. We've been through hell and high water even to decide to have this big procedure, and we take the leap of faith and actually do it, and and and all of a sudden...a big fat no loss. And next day...nothing. The only way not to see the stalls is not to weigh yourself very often, and I think most of us here are too invested for that! Just come here and complain every single time you hit a stall and we will listen and sympathise. Everyone here has said it - they're normal and most of us experience them - repeatedly. If you stick to your plan you will lose loads, it just doesn't follow a straight line with a loss every day - your body doesn't do things that way. I wish you the very best of luck.
  12. Hi guys - hope you are all happy and well. I've not posted in a little while and thought id give a little update. I had a gastric bypass on June 1st and so I am almost 7 weeks post surgery. My recovery has been very good and two and a half to three weeks post surgery. I was given the all clear to swim; I've been swimming almost daily since. I had my second appointment with my surgeon on Monday and was given the all clear to do high intensity training but with some caveats. I did my first class yesterday and it felt amazing. I was the biggest in the class and actually stumbled on the treadmill. I try to hide in shame - I accepted peoples genuine concern and carried on with the class; it felt great if not a little emotional. I ate pureed foods right out of surgery followed by soft foods. I have been given the all clear to eat normal foods now. I tend to go for home made things - I love chicken and chick pea curry with vegetables, Quorn bolognaise, lentil and beans soup, salmon with five bean salad - I'm really enjoying my food. I eat little and often - around 4 small 'meals' per day - sometimes 5. That seems to work well for me as I used to be a grazer. I started at 215lbs and am now 180lbs. I'm getting there - it will be along journey but in going to keep going xx
  13. I'm not looking forward to the stalls because I know how negative that can make me feel from past dieting, I don't think it'll be so bad after surgery after hearing about everyone's experiences with them. You make me feel like I'll be able to do this! The whole point of my surgery is to alleviate the GERD, I'm not technically having the surgery done for weight loss but because of another stomach surgery 18 years ago it's now my only viable option to fix my issues. I already get dumping syndrome because of my stomach issues so I'm not too worried about that. I'm just worried that I'm going to do it wrong. I imagine I'll have to be on a PPI for forever but I'm hopeful that we can at least lower the dosage down after surgery. I know scrambled eggs will be one of my go-to's for a quick protein snack because they're already my quick protein haha. I did what everyone said not to do and got a bunch of different protein supplements (i.e. shake powders, 2 oz shots, and "clear" beverage-type protein in liquid and powder. Just wanted to see what is and isn't going to work and how much I'm going to have to adjust my lifestyle. I feel like I'm going to be tied to a clock with having to space things out like iron and calcium. I'm already hesitant about a lot of meat because I have difficulty swallowing but KNOWING like really knowing and understanding how big your pouch is and what it will actually hold is probably a godsend and will save you some grief as you progress. I've been trying to pick up a little bit of this and that in preparation for it because I know when the time comes for it I'll be broke since I'll be missing a week of work if I'm not able to move around again quickly. But everyone says they're up and moving within a few days so I'm hopeful to only miss 3-4 days at the office, and I have a sedentary job that I can do from home, so that helps. So excited to see everyone's progress. Thanks for sharing your experience with us
  14. As the title says, I hit my 3 week stall about 2 days ago. I have been through this before, so I know not to check my weight for a week now. The stalls are the worst part of all this, and as time goes on, they get longer and longer. But I've already been to this dance, so at least I know what to expect. My gerd is getting bad. I had to go up to 40mg every day and see how that works (going to every other day caused issues, so today starts every day again). I was really hoping that I would be able to get off PPI with this revision, but so far, no. At least I've gone from 80mg daily to 40. If I could get down to maybe 20mg I could learn to be ok with it. I guess time will tell. I was given the ok to try some ground turkey and HOLY CRAP I FOUND THE RESTRICTION!!!!!! I can eat scrambled eggs, avocado, hummus, refried beans, even cheese cubes....nothing. But I had 2 tbsp of ground turkey and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD there was ALL KINDS of restriction!!!!! I've never had this before. It's awesome!!!! I was told my stomach is the size of a golf ball, and I found it hard to believe before, but oh man I believe it now!!!

How Can I Drink More Water??

I’m 5 weeks out and having a horrible time with water. The drink mixes have been too sweet now so I try to do a little bit at a time and see when it’s flavorful but not too sweet. Even sugar free Gatorade is too sweet and I try to dilute it. After my first bout with dehydration I started to pedialyte to my water. It has sugar, but all the true hydration drinks do. it’s hella sweet too, so I dilute that as well. My problem is the doctor just told me I HAVE to up my calories to 800, as I only get between 550-650 a day. Now with all this extra food I have less time to drink because we have to wait 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating to drink. I just don’t have the hours in the day or the space in my stomach to drink all this water. Do you think I might have a stricture?

This stall is breaking my spirit.

I was stalled for like a month up until this past weekend when the scale finally reflected a lower weight. I'm four months post-op, and I've had 2 significant stalls (at least two weeks), so I completely understand. Focusing on non-scale things (energy, less appetite, how clothes fit, extra time to do other stuff, etc) helps, but I think it's completely normal to feel sad and worried. I was scared that I would only have 4 months of weight loss and that suddenly the surgery just stopped working. These are all normal things to feel, from what I understand, but you're not alone! You will weigh yourself soon and the number will be different and you'll be so happy. I promise! ❤️

I think I’m taking it so hard because I stalled before I even really started to lose any weight.

This stall is breaking my spirit.

I'm in my very first stall and it IS mentally draining. I used to be so happy jumping on the scale and watching it go down .... now it doesn't move and some days it goes UP . UGH ! It's going on 3 weeks now and it's torture ! The only thing that I keep telling myself is " it's normal and you're not doing anything wrong. " This whole process has been a series of waiting games !

This stall is breaking my spirit.

It sucks. I've noticed for me that I stall every 2-3 weeks for about 5-7 days. It's super frustrating. Even with those stalls, I've managed to lose 38 lbs since surgery on May 1st and a total of 53 lbs since the pre-op diet. Stay the course, and you'll start losing again.

    Regrets

Embrace this period while you can, don't rush into things. but yes, you will be able to have a beer before a meal, yes you will be able to guzzle some water you will just have to learn where your new stop point is. yes, you will be able to eat way more than you thought would be possible and long for the early days of restriction. 20 pounds in 6 weeks is good you are right on track

    Brain fog? Walking? Questions.

Hi Mike, Brain fog comes from the anesthesia, and also the physical shock to the body as it’s healing. Mine took a good six weeks before I started feeling somewhat normal mentally. I still have days when I have the blahs and I’m four months out. Calorie deficit post surgery also plays a role as does hydration, which is why you need to keep your protein and water goals in mind. Walking took a while to build back up. Before surgery I was at 3 1/2 miles about five times a week. I’m now at 4 miles sometimes 5, five days a week and that took me about three months to get to. Of course, your mileage may vary, depending on your age, weight, etc.

    Gas After Bypass Surgery 💩

How much pain you have is variable. I had none after my sleeve but I really knew about it with my gall removal. But the surgical gas is mostly in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive tract so burping & farting have minimal impact. The surgical gas rises up behind your lungs putting pressure on nerves which cause the pain. The gas is absorbed into your lungs & breathed out. Walking, marching on the spot, pumping your arms up & down, slow deep breathing all help you breath that gas out. Heat packs can help with any discomfort. It usually takes about a week to fully pass. Additional burping or farting can be from the shakes, any sugar alcohols used in the shakes or drinking too quickly, plus the change in your digestive process could be adding to it while your body gets used to the changes. GasX may help with this gas. As with everything if it persists or gets worse give your team a call.

This stall is breaking my spirit.

Yep it happens to almost every one at least once. And it is an important part of your weight loss. It’s the time when your body takes stock & reassess your needs with your lower weight. It’s when your body resets digestive hormones & enzymes, your metabolism, etc. They usually last 1-3 weeks but of course sometimes they last longer. It just depends upon what your body needs. Stick to your plan, don’t stress your body more by making more changes than you are required too & the stall will break. It’s not a sign that your surgery has failed or what you’re doing is wrong but a sign everything is right. Even though the scales aren’t moving, some find their body measurements may change. You may notice your clothes are still getting a little loser. Have you noticed this?
  25. I feel your pain. Same thing is happening to me. Had surgery June 19th, lost 10 more lbs, and have been stalled for the past 15 days. Everyone on here, though, says to just keep on trucking. As disheartening as it may be, it's very normal. Not that that makes us feel any better, huh? Just know you're not alone in your stall or in how you feel. Sometimes upping your calories and your physical activity will break the stall. That's what I'm trying, but I'm only gonna weigh myself on Sundays. Wishing you the best of luck!
