    January 2020 Surgery Date

Fluid intake is ok, feels like all I do is sip sip sip. I was band to bypass revision so the surgeon left me with a slightly bigger pouch than normal though, which probably makes it easier for me to get fluid in. I’m not sure if I’ve lost anything yet, my surgery was done in a different country to where I live so I haven’t had a scale to weigh myself yet. I get home tomorrow, I’m so curious. I was 290 going in.

    Cigna Approval in GA

I do not have that insurance but my insurance company was the same way. One person said they required it, the next said they didn't. I finally pulled up the policy online and found they had revised the requirements on what was mandatory the month prior. When I called them back and quoted the policy to them, they said that information had not reached their office yet but that it was "probably" accurate. So my doctor's office decided to send in a prior authorization just to see what they would say. It got approved in 4 days. I said all that to say that maybe you should just try the prior authorization. My surgeon's office said that if it gets denied, they will send specific requirements that you need and thAt will be the most accurate information you will be able to get on it because it's not coming from a customer representative but rather someone who actually approves or denies based on the info. Good luck!

    Post surgery pain management

Call your team and ask them to revise your meds to something more accessible Good Luck and CONGRATS 💚
  4. So your weight is at about 200 lbs now? Why do you believe that you can't back to where you were and stay there? If you think that it's too soon for revision, then well... it's too soon for a revision! No, seriously... if you're not experiencing symptoms like e .g. serious reflux it's really hard to decide when it's time for a revision or if a revision makes any sense at all. There is always the risk of another surgery and results regarding additional weight loss or losing regained weight can be quite poor depending on the procedure.
  5. Hey Everyone! I am struggling to get my water ( lucky if I drink 750mls a day) and protein in because of timings. How long do you leave between your meals? I am trying to leave at least 10 minutes after drinking fluids before eating and at least 30 minutes after eating before drinking fluids again. But I am unsure when I can eat again? Also I feel like I am tolerating too much food. I am tolerating about 300grams. I am technically 5 weeks out although I was originally sleeved in 23 August 2019 then revised to bypass 5 weeks ago. Thank you in advance to anyone who offers their advice and guidance. X
  6. I lost over 100 lbs after my band surgery in 2005. I gained back about 20 lbs over the next three years and then stabilized at 226 lbs for a couple of years. Then the yo-yo weight loss and gain began, more gain than loss. I was up to 260 lbs when I began thinking about revision surgery about a year ago, but did nothing to move forward. My acid reflux and GERDS became worst during that period. After two endoscopic exams, weeks apart midsummer, it was determined my band had slipped and my pouch was very small. Also, I had high potential for developing Barrett's esophagus. I decision for a revision was easy after that. The band was removed in December. After 2-3 discussions with my surgeon, I decided, given my history with acid reflux and GERDS, to revise to gastric bypass scheduled for Feb 27. Honestly, if I was only 12 lbs from my goal weight, I would concentrate on enjoying life.
  7. Losingit2018 - How hard has your recovery been since the sleeve to bypass revision? How long were you out of commission before returning to your daily routine? For me, it isn't about how much I lose at this point, it is about not becoming diabetic again, and being taken away from my nephew as everyone else in my family has. At this point, I am the sole survivor at 45.
  8. Thank you! My doctor's only option is a revision to bypass. Yes, 100% rate of complication. Anything from a minor UTI to death. Pretty scary....but still..... I appreciate all the input and words of wisdom.
  9. I had sleeve surgery in March 2018. I ended up with gerd and hiatal hernia this year so recently revised to bypass. I initially lost 73 pounds with sleeve and then bounced upwards by 16 pounds. I am almost 8 weeks out from rny revision and have lost 34 pounds total and two pants size so far. as of now I am happy with my decision to revise. Only wish that I had followed my gut (pun) and got the bypass from the start. It is going to take hard work and determination no matter what route you decide to take. Good luck!
  10. Have you looked at DS or SIPS surgery? From my research it seems the better option. Revising to a bypass is said not to produce amazing weight loss (some but not all) my surgeon told me a revision to a bypass for me would only yield 25 lb or so and I need to lose 60. Good luck!
  11. Hi there. I work for DOE too. I however, have the HIP prime. I Am having a revision. You aren’t going to die. The medical field has made great stride. What surgeon are you meeting with? Each program require a different things. Emblem health who covers ghi and hip doesn’t require the 6 months visits anymore (stopped last year) that is what certain programs want. They want to be able to see that you are committed to this. also if you’re afraid of acid reflux I will highly consider doing your research on the sleeve and GERD. I know of a few people at my program who revised from the sleeve to RNY due to developing gerd after the sleeve.

    Cold 🥶 Feet 😬

One thing that you may want to ask your surgeon about is if they will numb your stomach before surgery. This was not done before my sleeve but was before revision to bypass. Huge difference in pain level.

    April 2020

Surgery twins now that I have a New Surgery Date!! 🙏🏼😀 Well I went to my follow 2 week Post Op today..it was suppose to be a revision but could only remove the Lapband due to scar tissue... I walked in the office today and the Surgeon says he was “so sorry he couldn’t do both surgeries at same time.” “How does April 7th sound for your gastric bypass?” YES! Hell YES! Let’s get this done already😂

Lap Band Removal and Revision Suggestions Needed

So I had a consult with the surgeon that did my upper GI. He is recommending I revise to the Sleeve. His estimate is I will lose the same amount of weight with the Sleeve or with Bypass, but Bypass has greater risk of complication. I have a couple friends who have the sleeve and didn't loose the weight they wanted to, hit a plateau and have gained back some weight. I'm worried about that. A complication of my band has been GERD, so I am also worried about that continuing if I have the sleeve. The surgeon really seemed to be pushing the sleeve, same with his office staff. But it was the same 10 years ago when I had the lap band, and now that has fallen out of favor...will the same happen with the sleeve? Should I just go with my gut and do the bypass???
  16. I had a slipped lap band that needed to come out. My surgeon said he'd do either procedure, but it was preferred to revise a lap band to an RNY in one procedure than the sleeve, and I wanted it all done in one surgery since I live 4 hours away from my surgeon. Also, I had terrible GERD before my lap band so the surgeon suggested the RNY to help keep the GERD from coming back. So far, so good!

13 years later and - I Love my band

I'm happy you have been able to keep your band with good success! I totally agree with you that if you're not having issues with your band there's no reason to remove it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Unfortunately many of us old bandsters have had to have ours removed for various reasons and gotten revisions. I don't miss mine at all...

1.5 years out & still throwing up?

So I’m now 3 days out from reparative surgery. My surgeon removed scar tissue and converted to a RNY Bypass bc he was not sure he could straighten out my sleeve enough. He also repaired my hiatal hernia. Said he removed a “ball of tissue & mesh.” 😳😳😳 He did say repairs fail sometimes bc that was from my previous hiatal hernia repair. This surgery I got to stay in the hospital for a night. It was great to be supported as I started healing & drinking water. I’m also home with a drain (kinda gross) which he does for any revision. Everything looks good though. Drinking my meds & water is already so much easier than recovering from my sleeve! I can tell a huge difference. I do have shoulder pain which they’ve told me is not gas but “positional pain” due to having my arms in one position for the entire 2.5 hour surgery. Thankfully, that means pain killers help. The hospital pushed fentanyl as much as they could once they figured out why I was pretty much screaming in pain. Then I had a morphine button I could push every 7 minutes. I walked a TON in the hospital. When they took me off of the pain meds, I ended up in severe pain again, and they had to give me another dose to make it home. Couldn’t sleep last night but got new pain meds this morning which really help. Would I do it again? Yes. Complications happen. The soreness will decrease. The healing will happen. More weight will come off. It’s going to all be ok. I’m just glad I finally got someone to listen to me.
  19. I chose gastric bypass for a couple reasons. I know everyone doesn't get it, but I feel like the dumping syndrome Would be a help to me long term to stay on track just in case I considered straying a little. And second, I know this isn't everyone but I've seen alot of stories of people needing to get the revision from sleeve to bypass and I don't want to have to go through this again. Like everyone else said, talk it over with your doc. He/she will be able to help you come to a decision.

    FEBRUARY 2020 Surgery dates🌹❤️

Any surgery makes me a little nervous. I think this one is making me nervous because it's a second revision and I think it's a lot more complicated than the others.
  21. There's reality only two options in my city which was sleeve or bypass RNY. I did tons of research and decided on RNY for various reasons. 1. I wanted the Malabsorption aspect. 2. I wanted greater chance of fixing my diabetes which it did pretty quickly; was off all diabetes medications within a week of surgery. 3. I wanted the metabolic changes that came with the redirection of intestines because i believe my metabolism was so bad after decades of bad food choices. 4. I wanted the most restrictive procedure available and only wanted one surgery; most of my research showed many people being revised after sleeve surgery to bypass for many reasons. I am very very happy but I've been very strict on myself from day 1. Almost 5 months later and I'm down 126lbs from highest weight. But everyone has their own preference and reasons to what surgery they like.

13 years later and - I Love my band

Wow n that’s awesome. Good for u. It’s also AWESOME to know that someone is doing well with it for this long n with no problems. I had a ❤️/hate relationship with my LB n tolerated cuz what mattered most was that it kept my weight under control regardless. But, unfortunately had it removed due to PS complications n I semi miss this tool. So, I’m now standing by for a possible revision God willing. Thank u for sharing n God bless.🙏🏽

    SLEEVE regret

I have never regretted the sleeve for a second. From pumping the pain meds, to changing my diet, to stalls. It’s all good. I would only get a revision if I got GERD, and no sign of it 14 months out.

    Lap band to gastric bypass

I said the same thing to my surgeon, "this ain't my first rodeo". I learned all the good habits for WLS with my lap band like don't drink while you eat or soon after, little bites and chew well, not snacking, etc and I think it made the revision to a bypass easier since I have had those habits for 10 years already. I had my surgery Nov 20 and the first 20 pounds fell off in three weeks. Now it's a much slower loss, but still happening! I'm only 12 pounds away from the lowest I ever got with my lap band so I'm confident I'll reach that and surpass it. But yes, it WAS more painful than getting the lap band but you'll get over that fairly quickly. It took me about 5 days before I felt like a human being again...

    Lap band to gastric bypass

I had my revision on October 18 and am down 32 lbs since then. I found not a lot of difference, the original band surgery had prepared me quite well. Just the mind set of eating the really really small meals again and no drinking with meals an adjustment again. I know was always supposed to be doing it but after 21 years I had gotten into that bad habit again.
