Its going to be a journey well worth taking. I too have researched and wanted this surgery for years. Finally this year I came across someone that husband works with same company as my husband and told me that our insurance covered this surgery. I literally cried right there I was so happy. I even clocked out of work and immediately called the weight loss center to get things rolling. I am hoping my surgery will he in early November would be a big blessing if end if October but I know that us probably stretching it knowing my final appointment is October 23rd and then the wait begins for insurance approval. The office said can take anywhere from 2 day to 2 weeks. Then I guess will have to start my pre op liquid diet for a week -
I can't help much, the accident I was in was when I was 9. The guy hit us after running a stop sign. I had multiple MRI's, had to go to physical therapy for a couple of years, and think the pain and injury had a lot to do with my rapid weight gain during those years. My lower back and neck still hurt on occasion, but have really gotten better with my weight loss. I know we had to go through a lawyer and it took a couple years at least to get the settlement. My mom received $20,000 for her, she had severe shoulder problems that has needed multiple surgeries and I received $18,000 that was put into a CD until I turned 18. I do not know any other specifics or what the lawyer made on the whole deal.

Hair and Nails, capsules sold at Wal-Mart and GNC. Zinc is supposed to avoid hair loss, they were too much for my pouch, I could not tolerate zinc, but HAIR & NAILS have been working fine.

Stopped Losing, Help!
rodswife replied to dzsunshine2901's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not doing anything wrong. You aren't going to lose weight every single day. Your body has to catch up. You will go through numerous stalls. You will have times where you lose inches instead of pounds. It's normal. But, you will not see that scale drop daily. Of that, I am positive. You have to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound. Just hang in there and don't worry. It will come off. Slower is better anyway because you have less skin sagging and perhaps less hair loss. -
It sounds to me like you have the right idea. If I am not mistaken you must be of the muslim area. You couldn't be from the hindi area as you wouldn't have been talking about chicken soup. It isn't easy if those are the foods you are surrounded by as they are so full of oil. I am married to a Pakistani and I will not eat any more of those foods if I don't have to. Once I have to I am very careful in what I choose. You want to be careful of the dairy as well since it has a lot of fat in it. I don't know about spoonfuls of food but probably it should be between 1/2 a cup to 1 cup od food per meal. That is if you are eating something heavy. If you make a fist that is what you should consume in a meal. The fluids are different with everyone. My doctor told me not drink drink anything 1/2 hour before your meal and 2 hours after you have eaten your meal. While you are teaching yourself to eat slowly if you don't already you will be giving your brain the chance you never did before to tell you that you are full. I know it seems odd but it will happen. Try to start believing that you need this meal to live and not live to eat this meal. You need to begin to believe in yourself that you can succeed in this new journey of yours and make the results everlasting. I drink 2100ml (72oz.) of Water a day, when I am weight training though I drink another (24oz.) of water a day, I weight train 3 times a week, and I walk 3 times a week. I have maintained my weight loss of 111 lbs. (from 251 to 140-142) for a year now and become addicted to exercising and gaining muscle. I feel great except for certain muscle groups every so often (all for the good though). Do not fret, if you truly want to make a difference in your life you will. Don't drive yourself crazy with am I full yet, did I eat enough. Just stick with the rules that your doctor gave you, begin to think healthy and eat healthy and you will succeed. Josephine

Starting Up! Help With All Areas Of Lapband Surgery
mags2u replied to tjeep34's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Each insurance is different on the requirements. I have Blue Cross blue Shield (anthem) and they had me do 6 months of Dr. supervised visits for weight loss (I didn't lose a thing). I would just check out and ask specific questions when you are inquiring to various insurance groups to fax you their specific policies regarding lapband surgery and specifically ask how long you have to be insured before it will cover. You don't want to get into it and then have any surprises come up. Good luck with your journey! -

Stalled stalled stalled
Cheeseburgh replied to bookworm88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the stallingest staller who stalled. I stuck with my program and it did come off, just at a snails pace some months. I never had a big drop after a stall, it was usually 1 maybe 2 pounds. Everyone is different. My statistics next to my name are a little misleading. I have lost 91 pounds, however that is from my highest weight 5 months prior to surgery. I lost weight while I was qualifying for surgery and had surgery at 204 pounds. I’ve lost a total of 69 pounds in 11 months, 16 of that alone has been over the past 2 months. I dug deep and got very serious about exercise the past few months. Here is a graph of my loss that might help, I have posted it before, it is from a month ago. My surgery was on 8/13 this ends on 6/3. I only entered data when I lost weight and omitted 1-2 lb fluctuations to stay sane. There is a thread called, embrace the stall on this board that is helpful. -
Not Enough Protein=Nausea?
armywifet replied to innerelease's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting my protein in by shakes, I also have Fage Greek yogurt. It has the most protein. I was concerned about weakness as well (2weeks out) and the surgeon said it may be the rapid weight loss that is causing that. For me cold smoothies or shakes go down better and also the sf carnation instant breakfast. -
3 Month Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery Op - With Pictures!
Kimberlina posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So this week I went to my surgeon for my 3 month post op visit. 3 months!!! ALREADY! Wow, I cannot believe how fast the time goes when you are so focused on a goal! So, I went there and first off got weighed by the nurse. She says to me, "Wow, you are down another 26.3 pounds since the last time we saw you just over a month ago!" So I tell her about the hair loss and the little bit of worry that I have about the loose skin, and she gives me some fliers about what other Vitamins I can be taking for the hair loss (BY THE WAY, ANY ADVICE IN THIS AREA WOULD BE GREAT!!!). She then tells me to ask the Dr. about the skin and what he thinks. So the Dr. comes in a few minutes later. Says to me, "Hello, Kim. I'll tell you, you used to look like someone I would perform surgery on, but not anymore!" So I smile and turn beat red (i'm sure) and then he looks at the chart again and says, "Kim! Do you realize you have lost 90 pounds in 4 months!?! NO ONE has ever lost that much that fast in our program!" Thats when it hit me. I have officially "lost" my 12 year old niece. WOW! Now for the bad news... My hair is 1/2 gone. Thank goodness I had a really thick head of hair to start or I would be bald by now. It's horrible! Every time I touch my head I loose a whole hand full of hair. I am really starting to worry about it but don't know what kind of vitamins to invest in so that it at LEAST slows down. HELP!!!! More bad news: I'm on another stall. I wanted to start the new year off in Onederland. I haven't lost in over 2 weeks. I am 10 pounds from Onderland and am stuck. Go figure. I just hope I can be within 5 pounds of Onderland at least by the New Year. Over all, I am happy as a lark and LOVING my new life! Thanks to the surgeon, their wonderful staff, and the sleeve I am happier than I have been in a very very long time. I finally feel good about myself and therefore am able to tackle the everyday things that used to tax me to even think about. I don't have a lot of full body pictures to post but I do have just a few to share. The first two pics is from a wedding I was in this last June (5 months ago). The last three were taken just this week. I will do my best to find some full body pictures this week and get them posted. ONDERLAND HERE I COME!!!!!! -
Lately I've been reading a lot of posts from newbies who haven't much information to get them started (perhaps it was surgery in Mexico, or you didn't get a lot of written information from your doc. that you could reference later...) so I'm hoping this will help you all. There are several good books you can get that are loaded with information for after your surgery, including recipe books. Most are written by folks who have had the surgery, some by the surgeons. I have found several on Amazon.com, type WLS in the search box. One I like especially is Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies by Brian K. Davidson, David Fouts, and Karen Meyers. And for all those who are thinking about the surgery, there are books about the surgery, as well. I wish you all good luck and happy eating!

I am super excited to be posting this and I made this thread to not only see everyone's nsv's but for people who aren't loosing to come to this thread to get encouragement! Lately my weight loss has slowed down I loose about 1-2 lbs a week here lately before I was loosing anywhere between 5-6 lbs a week.....anyways to make a long story short I've been in a size 16 for over a month now and I went and bought a size 13 before I was even in the 16's because I knew eventually I would get there well 2 days ago I was able to put on those 13's, granted they were tight and made my flabby stomach poke out at the top I was still able to get them on and button and zip them!!! I won't be wearing them out in public for awhile until I can more comfortably fit in them but I just had to share this experience with all of you!

Sciatica pain right hip and leg
Dorian44 replied to copmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is one of the main reasons I am having wls! I have severe stenosis and herniation in my back and have been dealing with this pain for years! I have had several injections, but the pain management Dr. Says that I will need surgery within the year. Not much more he can do for me at this point. I have "flare-ups" all the time where I have a hard time walking. Weight loss may help, but if it doesnt, at least i'll lose the weight necessary to have back surgery. I am sorry you are going through this, because I know it IS NOT FUN! Keep moving, and stretch. Look online, there are many websites that can give you tips. Good luck! -
Haha I found that I have obstructive sleep apnea. That's the kind that weight loss can alleviate, but not totally cure. So, I'm 26 and if I lost weight I would probably stop needing it. But at some point when im older ill have to get back on it. For now though, I get excited about sleeping with it. Positive reinforcements at its finest haha

Because I have Gerd, my surgeon said Rny was the choice for me. I had wanted the sleeve b/c I have arthritis and won't be able to take NSAIDs after the surgery. He said the weight loss will make a difference itself and he doesn't recommend taking NSAIDs with the sleeve either. He answered all of my questions and I have confidence in him so I am now learning everything I can about rny.

Just got back from my one month follow up and I have lost 15 pounds. Not what I had hoped for but it's weight I'll never seen again. I had been on antibiotics during week two and they said that slowed down my loss. Hopefully things will start moving now. I have also been released for all physical activities and returning to work and can now introduce foods one at a time. So thankful to be getting back to a more normal life. Zumba classes here I come.

I have not had vsg yet but that is my plan and hope at this point . I have one ore month of supervised weight loss & then should be on my way . While having my Egd the doc said I had signs of avid acid reflux. This was new to me, I very rarely had any issues, only when I was pregnant. (3years ago). He then put me on med. for this "problem". I then within a week of taking this me started having indigestion like crazy and have felt awful ever since. I also was told during my stomach ultra sound that I have gallstones in the neck of my gallbladder . I felt like crap ever since they went fishing around doing these test. I had a attach of some sort the other day while eating dinner ( baked pork & carrots ) horrible chest pain, back pain between shoulders , hot flashes, nausea, dry heeves felt like something was stuck. Horrible pain! Went to ED, they gave me a GI cocktail and zofran. With in 10 min. I felt much better. Called the gastro doc next day & they switched me to nexium. I still have mild pain on left side of chest when I take deep breaths. And after I eat. Most psin is on left side of chest, right under sternum, and left side of stomach / abdomen . I am worried that my surgeon will say no to the sleeve due to this new issue. Anyone have issues like this before or after the surgery? So frustrated & I am so close to the finish line that I'm afraid of everything going wrong at this point. :/

Been on liquid diet since Saturday (3 1/2 days so far). Started at 360 and in this time I'm already down to 340, which gives me hope for the loss! I read a couple of the current threads from others having problems on the pre-op, and I feel for you, between hunger and lack of loss.. Makes me feel guilty about posting this. I feel the hunger, but really only when it would be time for me to eat. Anyway, had the UGI test, a nutrition class, and pre-surgery stuff. So far the UGI test was far the worst part, I came very close to vomiting the barium back up.. Ugh, still shuttering! If everything comes back aces I'll be done on the 21st. I of course have cold feet, but I know its in my head. Having already lost some weight makes the little devil telling me I don't need the surgery. Not being able to continue my old lifestyle gives the same reaction. I know that I have to do this though, statistically I know I cannot do it on my own. My apologies, this is rather disjointed and rambly, but I had to get my thoughts out

MediCare and getting Sleeved
Ms. Keel replied to follmerpa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Medicare is Medicare in all states, only thing I can think of why the person had to wait 6 months, was maybe they didn't have documentation of any weight loss programs they tried before considering weight loss surgery. The doctor will ask have u tried anything else like taking supplements, diet pills, Jenny Craig, or weight watchers and etc. If you say yes you most likely will not have to wait. My doctor never asked to see anything he just put it in his notes. That's also an requirement Medicare wants. Hopes this helps. -
