  1. I had VSG 4 months ago...prior to surgery I never had regular periods. I lost 42 lbs prior to surgery, and have now lost another 46 lbs, so 88 lbs so far all together. Since surgery I have had regular monthly periods (this is awesome since it has been 10 years or more since it was last regular!), but starting 3 months ago, a week or so before my period, I seem to get horribly sore nipples. Excruciating sore. Heating pad, and hot baths seem to help with the pain. But I was wondering if anyone has experienced this...

    Hrt After Weight Loss

Caradina, I was going to start a thread about this myself. I was given blood tests last year and told that I was peri-menopausal at the age of 39. I went on HRT but I suffered with severe migraines and taken off them; I only last 6-8 weeks on the Patches. The last year, the symptoms came with a vengance... sweats, sleepless nights, moody, emotional and all for 'no apparent reason'! I was horrible and I felt horrible. I went back to my doc and she gave me tablets to control the sweats, whcih worked a treat. I was also refered back to the menopause clinic and put back on HRT patches and I am still on them 3 mths later. No migraines this time as the flush tablets also stop migraine attacks. I feel a lot better, moods are calmer, I can concentrate for longer and I have better sense of well being... all in all going good. Now, my concern here is two fold - firstly I am spotting every 10-20 days and it is not pretty (sorry if TMI) i also get cramps and pains that I didn't get before, although my monthlys were very erratic! And secondly, I haven't lost a pound since October and was wondering if the HRT has 'something' to do with this? Since the New Year I have been logging food (with a couple of breaks) and my calorie intake is looking good - between 900-1200 a day. I do exercise, but the last couple of weeks it hasn't been as regular but I still ... I am in a bit of a quandry about it! I am 19+mths out and not at goal, although I am happy with the weight I have lost, I do feel that I would like to get rid of another 14lbs or so. According to the BMR charts and all that malarky, I 'should' be losing about a 1lb a week? I was also interested in the oestrogen being stored in fat comment that you made... I didn't know that until recently and am now wondering if the weight loss that I have achieved might have spurred on the menopause a little earlier that it might have been. However, I really do think that I was going to go through it early as my symptoms, albeit minor, were there anyway. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I am a little confused... Whatever happens, I am going to continue all my efforts to getting this last 14lbs off... and when work calms down, my exercise will go up! Good luck to you and sorry for the lengthy response!
  3. mews, thanks for the reply. I feel a difference in my attitude and pain every day. every day has gotten significantly better. The first 2 days I was miserable. I couldn't even sip Water without severe chest pain on every sip. I couldn't sit down or get up without pain. I couldn't even sleep in bed because it hurt too much to get up (and I couldn't get up by myself. hubby had to help me!). Day 4 was much better. the pain was more manageable and the chest pains when sipping were only there occasionally. today is day 5 for me and I feel even better. Today i have reached many milestones already. i can get out of bed myself with no help (still hurts, but at least I can do it!), I can reach to wipe after using the restroom (tmi...I know), I can drink without chest pains--they are much fewer and farther between! I can stand and sit without much pain. I feel SIGNIFICANTLY better today. I can't wait to see how much better I feel tomorrow! hang in there! Each day truly does bring more surprises that you will be thankful for!
  4. I haven't had the surgery yet, but since I am covered partially by insurance I have to do the 3 months of supervised dieting. I haven't told anyone but my husband and my other care providers (doctors), who I asked to write letters to the insurance for me to help me with approval. I have been struggling with what to say and who to tell, and then I came to an epiphany - for me at least. When I first started learning about the lapband and reading how it works I noticed the one word that everyone uses - TOOL. This will be a tool for us in the steps we are taking to make our lives healthier. This is not a magic fix-it band, not a you'll-never-crave-chocolate-doughnuts-again band, not a cure for the I-want-some-icecream-now band. It is merely to reduce the AMOUNT that we are allowed to eat at one time.. Everything else is up to us. It will be hard work, especially at first, and I will be consciously making healthier choices and chosing what I eat (already started in January to get ready). Now, if I tell anyone or everyone that I have this band, any steps I've done or long hard road I've gone down or sacrifices I have made will all be lumped into one phrase: "oh, she has the Lapband, no wonder she lost weight so easliy". It may be petty or feel like I need attention, but if anyone wants to pay attention to my weight and how much I've lost or how much better I look, then I want it to be about ME and about my choices and the hard work I've done to get there. Maybe if someone is curious about the band, or if I feel like they may understand how much work I still had/have to put in, then I may feel the connection and want to tell them about it. For now, I haven't even told my sister (who is one of my best friends) or my mother (who lives with me and my family) or any of my friends. I am a talker and constantly give TMI to my friends and family, and this has been hard for me not to say anything and gab on and on about it. But I know once I open that dialog up I can't take it back. So I found this website, and I found a place where I can talk about it and feel like everyone understands. This is a very personal decision and it's hard to decide what to do. Good luck with your decision. ~Kelly <3

    Highmark Bcbs Of Virginia

My weight was right on the line between 39 & 40. If I'm a little constipated (TMI sorry) its 41. If I'm "cleaned out" it's 39. The two days before my appointment I ate sushi, salty foods, etc so id retain water and weight. And my BMI they documented at 40.9. Beautifulnewme is right - Gotta do what you gotta do.
  6.

#wls #tmi you shut the lid on the toilet. We're you afraid it would get out???

  7. I hope to be able to go to a public bathroom and use the regular stall and not the handicapped or family restroom. Seriously, my bottom is so large that in a regular restroom there is not enough room for me to get to my butt! (sorry for the tmi)

    Birth Control

I wil be following this closely. I have never took a birth control pill, ever. We have even been told I will probably never conceive - but now I am being told I am responding so well to the weight loss (it has only been 2 months post-op but I was loosing since January '11) that they are concerned my body may reverse "whatever" it is doing. I have not even fully transitioned to daily mushies yet, so this really scares me - that would be so bad for a child! TMI but Hubby is like "what??!!!" when I handed him a sleeve of his own...so that isn't going to last in the long run (and is wayyy not effective enough).
  9. My strips were almost off on there own and when I pulled one off after my shower I noticed that only one was not closed and open its small and I don't think I need to call the Dr or anything ( I see him Monday) almost like a cut its pink and watery SORRY FOR TMI My kids get bigger cuts then this.. I just put a band-aide on it . It was not the big incision but one of the smaller ones. Maybe he will put a stitch in it or just use a butterfly band aid. anyone have this happen?? I'm only two weeks post op on Tuesday.
  10. Warning: TMI approaching.....I'm so excited that after 12 days, I finally pooped!!!! YEAY ME!!! I actually ran out into the living and screamed to my husband, "Baby I have to poop!! Isn't that great?"

  11. Huge Congrats to YOU!!! I feel the same way!! I was sleeved on 2-27 and the only thing that bothers me is swallowing (some) pills...capsules are not my friend and yesterday one came back up..TMI I know, but important for some..it was the first time I have thrown up....small tablets are fine, so I will have to find other brands that will go down without problems...I love the restriction....the feel of being full after a small amount of food!!! I told hubs today at dinner...I love it!! I used to wake up EVERY morning and I swear the very first thing I would think of was food....Not now...that in itself is such a blessing!!!
  12. Constipation. Nope. All i need to do is eat something or drink something with "real" sugar in it and i'm ALL set. sorry tmi

To Puke Or Not To Puke

I also agree with the above posts.... Whenever I eat too much or too fast I get the slilmes.. I HATE to throw up because it makes me feel terrible and pee my pants.. (I know TMI) But now post op--- if I need to throw up all I do is go to the RR and lean over the toilet and open my mouth.. it just comes up.. not even a gut wrenching puke just like a baby spitting up. I don't even pee my pants. After I throw up/spit up I feel SOOO MUCH BETTER! One day I will learn to eat slower, chew my food better, and don't eat too much!!! YEA RIGHT!!! I am 4 months post op and I have only done this 7-8 times. It is getting better, I am learning my bodys signals. Rhonda
  14. So I had a thought today about WLS when I was at work. I realized that while I am excited about new clothes, better health, and a more active life there is one thing that would be almost (TMI) orgasmically good. It would be fantastic to come home from work and NOT have my feet, ankles, knees and legs positively ache and swell up. I work on my feet for 8 hours every day as a cake decorator. Sometimes after sitting and then getting back up my feet are so swollen they look like little Italian sausages (the Hot and Spicy kind, of course!) and I hobble around like a 100 year old woman! I actually daydreamed today (while cloud watching! I saw a crab, and Spiro the dragon!) about how having 120 less pounds bearing down on my poor footsies will feel! How maybe my hips and shoulders wont hurt. About how I will be able to enjoy my body, rather than be exhausted by it. Still no word about the insurance, but I've got a ton of extracurricular activity for the next five days to help take my mind off of everything.
  15. So, had my endoscopy today, and I don't think it went as well as the one I've had in the past did. This time, apparently I threw up many times during the procedure (TMI?) and found out that I have a hernia. Wonderful. Now I'm at home with a sore throat and now an upset stomach (after eating dinner).

To Puke Or Not To Puke

Okay - this may be TMI for those of you that are squeamish. But this is one of those areas that I really learned a lot about AFTER the surgery, and maybe someone else will benefit from learning about this part of it. I have never coped well with throwing up - but after the surgery I found that if I ate too much or ate too fast and it was sitting in my esophagus causing me pain, the best thing to do was to throw up. It's different than when I use to get sick with the flu. It's like you just bend over and burp a little bit and up it comes. Usually, only the amount of a bite or so will come up and it's very easy. I still hate to throw up but when I need to for relief I do because it helps SO much. I have a very restrictive sleeve and it took me a long time to figure out how much I could eat, how slowly to eat, what foods I could tolerate, etc. so in the beginning I'm afraid I did my fair share of getting sick. Now, I very, very rarely have to.

    Caffine

I'm 6 weeks out & can't live w/out caffeine. My NUT & my surgeon gave me the ok on it. I hate milk plain but to add some protein to my coffee I do q latte more or less.....1/2 coffee & half milk over ice. At Starbucks I add sf vanilla...sooo good. Today I added a 1/2 scoop of vanilla whey protein. It def made it taste grosser, but I need the protein & it was better than a shake I've had no probe with gas & I personally think it helps get a bm get going so that's a bonus for me (sorry if tmi) !!

I Can't Believe I'm Going To Ask This...

Hey brandymarie81, it's like you're reading my mind. I had frequrent Y.I's before the sleeve and once my period hit the day after its been really bad. I don't know if its the hormone fluctuation thats doing it but I'm now on meds for it and I'm going into the doc Thursday for follow up. I know my symptoms and diagnosed myself but I want confirmation. Have you been to the doc yet? BTW this may be TMI but I'm STILL bleeding! WTH. I hope this period craziness doesn't last for a long time.
  19. 44I - Oh your poor, poor back and shoulders. I didn't know "i" existed. I'm with you. I would like to have my B cup back. What is it with men. TMI, but why would they need more than a handful?
  20. I had tried a bunch of protein shakes and did the dry heaves (tmi) with everyone of them. So far the only thing I have been able to tolerate has been Isopure. I just have to make sure I don't smell it. The smell of the whey protein gets me every time. The taste is not so bad. Another thing I do is add powdered fat free milk to my sugar free pudding to up the protein. Hope some of these ideas help.
  21. GOSH, I have never had this experience. My stomach just feels really full for about 10 minutes and then goes away. I do eat way tooooooo fast, but I seem to know when to stop (knock on wood). I am working on slowing down, but when I see my hubby eating really fast, I start having control issues and tell him to slow down. It so sucks. Anywhoo, thanks for sharing and it wasn't TMI. It is really hard to stay focused when having other people around who can eat a lot. Please accept my apology for being in a slump today. I will just have to snap myself out of this rut! LOL

    Bruised Lady Bits

Well Ladies, maybe it's time for us ladies to take charge. Yes, I mean take charge. Ask for what you want from your man! Yep, give him directions on what you like. Slow it down, take time to enjoy every moment of it. The funny thing is, that when you are in an aroused state, you do not feel pain like you would if not aroused. Sorry, this may be TMI! But enjoy sex! We burn calories when we're having sex! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
  23. JoiebeanWhen I first was sleeved i did have dry heaves sometimes, not often, but i did have them. I actually eventually had to go to the hospital too, cuz i was now dehydrated. This happens to others sometimes too, so its not un normal to have this happen. BUT....Up until awhile aago, i probably wouldn't have posted here, but... a couple of weeks ago, i was kindof beginning real food, - i made a delicious veal stew. For whatever reason, i just wasn't thinking, the veal was so yummy i just starting eating away, too fast of course - when i was done - i was so upset, cuz i knew i had eaten too fast like i did in the good ol' days. Maybe even a dot more than i should have. Sure enough shortly after the food came up, but maybe TMI - it really came back up in full pieces of veal, gross. Trust me, that never happened to me again. Called my NUT in the morning worried about my sleeve, she said i should be fine, i told her i learned my lesson the hard way, and i could "see" her smiling on the other side of the phone, saying "you did learn your the hard way, but you learned to be more careful." So thats my story for good or bad. Best Kathy
  24. Just an FYI---this may be TMI for some. So...it finally happened. I ate to fast, filled up my stomach and a little more and....well...up it came. I found it really strange. I haven't actually thrown up since surgery and that was violent dry heaving. This wasn't like the violent getting sick...but it just literally came back up. No convulsing, lol, no gagging, it just simply came back up and I spit it out. Is that normal?? Is that what others have experienced? My sleeve is starting to take regular foods again and so I'm trying new stuff....but it still doesn't like some things. I got a little sick from Soup with to much grease in it too (I know...grease in soup?? Go figure)
