  1. So I just had open bladder surgery(not bypass related or caused) and had to stay in the hospital post opp...I was SO scared when they went to move me from my strecher to my room bed but it was EASY! I had m my bypass surgery 6/22 and I'm 130lbs down. Aside from the post op pneumonia everything about this surgery has been easier, walking, moving, standing, showing and I have a 3+ inch incision going from my belly button down, 15+staples and 7 stitches on my bladder on the inside. It's one of the biggest Surgeries I've ever had and pneumonia aside pretty easy recovery so far.

Hi All, My surgery was on 9/28. I’m 27 years old and I am struggling mentally. I finished my first week of fluids and was not great with protein. My follow up is on 10/12 and I’m nervous. I’m 26 pounds down. I really am just trying to stay positive but I honestly just am regretting it because I’m not fully in control of my life right now. Can’t wait for 12/1 for real food.

I think it’s really easy to get discouraged. My dietitian‘s biggest recommendation was to not weigh yourself until your first official postop appointment and I stuck to that. I had so much inflammation, nothing was likely budging in the first 2-3 weeks but I had lost more than I expected by week 4. Hang in there!!

  6. No, the SASI slims the excess of the stomach from the sleeve and meets the upper and lower intestines. I was quoted $18,900 for that at IBI Healthcare in Buckhead in Atlanta. The bypass is $14k. I think I’m going to go with the Bypass. My goal is to really stop eating bread and cheese. I am almost a vegan as I’ve cut out every meat, and all sugars. I want this tool to trigger dumping so I can really stop. My weight gain recently is due to starch and stress. And, I also stopped going to my therapist and my nutritionist. I’m restarting my therapy right now. Unfortunately, I’m back at my starting weight from back in 2017 which is 240. So, I’m a bit defeated by the recent weight gain. I’m hoping to start again with the process this week or next week. Since my goal is to lose 90 lbs, I don’t think the ESG would work for me.
  7. This will be my first fall/winter since surgery in May. Let me start out by saying - I've always been hot. I haven't owned any long sleeve tops. We keep the house temp at 65ish. I sleep with the window open and a fan on all year round. I have to take off my coat in the store while grocery shopping in winter. I wear a light coat while everyone's bundled up for winter. BUT NOW --------------I'm finding out that I'm C-O-L-D !!!!! It's 49 out. I'm ready to drag out my winter coat !!! LOL I've been scouring the Goodwill the last week for sweaters and sweatshirts so I can be comfortable. What a change !! My insulation is gone LOL How do you handle the cold ? Does it affect you now that some of your "insulation" is gone ?
  8. You have had the roughest ride of all of us. Your body is saying enough, I need a holiday. Let it go to the beach. Eat well, exercise to a limit that will not tax your body. Kick back and look at how far you have come I am a great believer of being relaxed about the whole new lifestyle. I am not on a diet. What I do now, I will be able to continue with for the rest of my life. I don't push anything. I don't change the way I do anything, I have watched people do extreme diet and exercise and to be honest it has never worked for them. They fall off the regime that's too much to hard to stick too. I just stick to my teams advice. At the moment they want me to up my calcium and keep below 1500 cals. I don't lose for months and then I clunk down 5 lbs a time. Then the long stall starts again. On here I was advised that a 3 month stall meant that I was doing stuff wrong. The person who said this had not had the surgery and not walked in our shoes. I didn't take offence but oh boy is that person going to have a shock when they get into a stall. Its not all about a calorie deficit.
  9. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I STILL HAVENT made a decision. I have the money to do the surgery, but now I have added 2 additional surgery options. Now, I can’t decide between 1. Bypass 2. ESG 3. GSRE - gastric sleeve revision surgery 4. SASI - single anstanomis ilietal surgery. I know I’m spelling it wrong. This one is supposed to make you lose 60+ lbs and is one stitch.

    Not getting your test results

It can work like that in the US, especially if you go to the specialist your surgeon recommends. For me, my surgeon is 3 hours away and I just went to the specialists in my area. Generally, everything will get sent to your Primary doctor no matter what, even if you are in another state. My surgeon had me sign HIPPA releases for my primary, my GI, and my pulmonary Dr., but my ultrasound and EKG were done by specialists I do not normally see, so I had them fax the results to the Surgeon, and my Primary got them anyway plus they are all linked in on MyHealthPortal (so I could see results, notes, and recommendations right away from my phone and make requests for my results to be sent where ever. However, my Surgeon uses MyChart similar but different system.

My one week pre-op diet starts Monday, and I'm starting to get scared. Not of the actual surgery, really. I mean, I can talk about how great the benefits of bariatric surgery will be and how mindful of my eating I will become, and I'm really thankful that I've come this far and that I am able to do it... but the reality is coming, where I'll be in it, and not just talking about it. It seems like maybe the attachment to my old ways of eating is rearing up and trying to pull me back. Like hey, you do realize that you can't stop this train a month in, right? Can't say, oh this diet is too hard, forget it, I'm gonna go eat a pizza now. I mean, that's part of why I want this surgery, because of that restriction. But it's scary, because ending diets is all I've ever known. Not to mention the dumping and hypoglycemia that seems will follow for the rest of my life. This is new territory here, and it's serious. I know I'm going to go through with it and that it'll be great, at some point. But now that it's finally here, I'm just freaking out a little 🙃

Scheduled for 10/17. I am on day 3 of preop and I feel better today than I did the last 2 days. It’s a struggle - I keep thinking of the food I want to eat. Popcorn. Pumpkin cake. Rice!! Ughhh

Try not to get discouraged....Some of us are just slow losers!!!! I'm 4 weeks post-op (9/7/20 Bypass) and have only lost 14 pounds. I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to be doing! Take your measurements! In four weeks I'm only down the 14 pounds....but I'm down 23.34 inches! I've learned to not compare my journey to others and to not let the scale define me! Just keep following what your Dr/Nutritionist's program and it will happen.

CartyGirl98 you're not doing anything wrong. I just saw my surgeons PA yesterday and was told that in the first 2 weeks you will lose from 7-15 pounds. Sounds like you are right on track. I am just finishing up my last day of pureed foods. At the beginning of starting it, I gained 2 pounds. I am down a total of 13 pounds since surgery on 9/22/23. Hang in there. When is your follow up?
  15. I can relate to the feeling of I'll never get there...... my number that had me raging was 210. I could NOT get past that number no matter what I did. I swore I could be dead for 2 weeks and still weigh 210. That was the number that drove me to have VSG. My new demon is 190. I've been stalled at that number now for 2 and a half months ! Those damn numbers will drive us crazy !!!!!
  16. Has anyone ever had issues with getting your test results from a required specialist? I went to a cardiologist a week ago and was not given the paperwork results for my echocardiogram. This clinic has no website where I can view my results and the doctor is hard to get in contact with unless you make an appointment and the wait times at this place is horrible (be well primary in Brooklyn). How did you guys get around this problem if you ever had it?

This last 50 pounds is the bane of my existence!!!

I'm guessing it could be a stall, but when I do lose, it's soooo little and it takes soooo long. I can tell you this.....my body might like this weight, but I sure don't. There has to be a way to force my body past this point so I can lose the rest. No way do I want to stop 50 pounds away from my goal weight. No way, no how.
  18. The last pounds are the hardest to lose. A real b*tch. But could you be experiencing a stall. I recall you were prone to them with your sleeve. Also don’t forget your new set point. Could this be the weight your body is happiest at?? How long has it been since you lost anything? For those who are interested, Dr Matt Weiner posted a video about set point (metabolic thermostat) a couple of days ago. Others, like Dr John Pilcher, will likely have good videos too.
  19. It looks like you've lost 30 pounds since your revision about 3 months ago. So the scale is moving, just slowly? I feel for you, wish I could give you a hug and tell you to your face what a badass you are.
  20. I'm so excited, I got my surgery date today and we finalized all the details of the surgery!!! I'll be doing the duodenal switch with a longer common channel since I have a history of vitamin D deficiency and anemia. The surgeon talked to my GI specialist and they signed off of on it so everyone is on board thankfully. We picked December 13th, since I'll be in New Zealand for most of November. He said 2 weeks is standard for their liver reduction diet but if I added in a gradual 3rd week it would probably help as a bonus week. Their liver reduction diet is 2 shakes, 2 snacks and a lean, green dinner until one week before surgery, when it switches to all fluids. So basically I'll be starting the diet as soon as we get back from traveling... I already have 7 flavors of premier protein shakes in my closet. LOL (They require the shakes be either those or the bariatric advantage powder as per some study they are following). I'm really happy to be at this stage of everything, I know the 2 months will fly by fast!

    July 2023 buddies?

Just did my 3 month check up yesterday (my actual 3 full months is on October 10th) ... I've lost 60 lbs since surgery day on July 10th... I've actually gained more muscle also (I've been lifting weights while on this journey. I had a goal to lose 100lbs in the first 4 months but I'm satisfied with the path I'm on now.

    5 weeks post op retching?

@gabbieox7 I'm going through the exact same thing. At 3 weeks I couldn't eat/drink anything without getting sick. I went in and had a scan and everything looked normal, the doctor even had me get fluids. I'm not 4 weeks post op and still having the same issues. Some days are worse than others. The doctor did say it can be normal for sleeve patients. I just want to feel normal again.
  23. The only area of caution with that is to get to that calorie number, it's got sort of a lot of sugar for people like us, and if OP is susceptible to dumping syndrome, they will need to either break it up into multiple, manageable servings or choose something less glycemic (the only reason I say this is that I have been in that situation myself, and those Ensure shakes made me dump if I drank the whole thing in one sitting. I had to break them up into 3 "parts" and would drink 1/3 30 min after each meal)
  24. I'm currently 4 weeks post-op and have been having a hard time. I can't get my liquids or protien in. I went to the doctor last week and they had me get IV fluids to help out. I just feel nauseous all the time. I am taking zofran to help with that. I feel like things are never going to get better. Any advice or just some reassurance would be great.
