3 and a half weeks post op

Maybe they mean 10 miles a week. 10 miles a day is WAY too much for someone who is not even eating maybe 500 calories. Don't over do it Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. For some reason the last 2 days I have been super weak and shaking. I have been drinking water and protein shakes and taking vitamins. Idk why I'm so tired and feeling so shaky. I am going through some personal things so maybe it's just my depression kicking in? Idk but I didn't walk at all outside today or yesterday, and I was just getting good at doing it a few times a day too! my dr wants me to be walking 10 miles by the time I go for my 6week check up! I do notttt see how that's possible! I hurt everywhere and that's when I barely walk a whole mile! Let alone 10! Idk whats going on. Plus I have only lost 14lbs since surgery day so now I'm 277lbs but still feel so huge and bloated. I was feeling somewhat ok and somewhat energetic once the pain in my stomach started to go away but now I am so weak and don't want to move off the couch! Anyone else having any issues too.? Why am I so hungry?!

The pre-op diet sucked. Mine was a 10-day liquid diet and I broke down on day 4 or so and ate a yogurt. It was just really difficult for me. Hang in there, this too shall pass.
  4. I was referred to a long standing bariatric doctor. I found out that he does not believe in revision sugery despite the research (2019). I am now in the process of finding a new doctor with approval for the procedure. I am excited and scared as heck. I will never give up! So, here we start again! July 2021 Surgery People!

This it how things are going for me. Sorry if it is long: I had my Surgery on Wednesday at 10am and everything went well. I did have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during my sleeve. One in recovery at about 12:30pm I can remember getting up and walking to the restroom twice. I was given some ice chips and some time later was given a cup of water and a pill to swallow. I was in pain from the gas. It mostly felt like pressure in my right shoulder, my neck and behind my spleen. It was horrible. I was moved to a room sometime around 5:30pm. I walked from the recovery bed to the bed in my room. I drank a couple of sips of water and fell asleep for about 30 minutes. I was determined to get rid of the gas pain at which by this time was mainly in my right shoulder and neck, so I walked for about 15 minutes. At this time the walking did not help much, I burped 1 time. Since I was on IV and drinking water I had to use the bathroom frequently and because of the pain of getting out of bed I chose to walk every time I had to urinate so I walked for about 10-15 minutes. Eventually I started burping more during my walks. The night of surgery was pretty much the same, drinking water, urinating walking and burping. I did try some chicken bullion which was delicious and helped me burp from the warmth. I did not sleep much throughout the night. The morning after surgery I decided to sit in a chair to see if I could sleep but I was still restless. I walked more and burped more throughout the morning. Since I was doing so well with my fluids, urinating and walking the doctor was most likely going to let me go home when he came back to check on me. I wanted to see if I was able to sleep before I was released so I forced myself to sleep and I was able to for about an hour. When I woke I wanted to try the thickest liquid they offered for my full liquid diet which was cream of tomato soup. I drank about 2 oz and held it down fine. I was discharged at 3:30pm that day. When I got home I felt miserable from the 20 minute ride from the hospital to home so I took some med and tried to be as comfortable as I could be the gas pain was unbearable in my shoulder but I pushed through it. I was able to finally fall asleep around 11pm Thursday night. When I woke up Friday around 5:50am I felt a lot better. I took some Tylenol, sipped on water and walked around in my house for about 1.5 hours (I am really determined to get rid of this gas today). I attempted to walk outside but the mosquitoes were horrible. Over all the experience has not been to bad the worst part for me has definitely been the gas pain but it is getting better. As a tip drinking warm bullion before and during my walking has really helped getting the gas moving. Sorry this is so long but I wanted to share my experience.
  6. I just got mine done yesterday morning (7/8/21). I was nervous and scared but results came out pretty good. I really don't have pain at all, scale from 1-10 I would say 1-2. I will be discharged from hospital today. Hopefully everything will be fine in long-term. Height: 5'7 Weight: 238 Age: 41 Doctor used DaVinci robotic assisted to do my surgery.

Why is it so hard to find a good therapist?!

BetterHelp is not covered by insurance, but it's generally cheaper than paying for weekly therapy without insurance. I also suggest joining the My Level 10 Life Facebook group if you're on Facebook. It's $10 a month but the group is super supportive and they have 1-2 weekly zoom calls that are wonderfully supportive. They have been wonderful as I've struggled to wait for surgery. I also joined a free facebook support group and it was terrible. ML10L is so good, and I'm not really a support group person. I don't think that having the person who did your eval do therapy is a conflict of interest at all - the eval is over and done with, and now he's just a competent therapist with the right expertise! It's not like he still has to evaluate you - you can't go back and undo the surgery! Some people really like homework, and I don't think it's busy work; I just don't find it helpful.
  8. There's a WLS YouTuber (My Level 10 Life) who swears by Better Help (she's actually paid to promote them, but she swears that she gets asked to promote a lot of things and only promotes things she really believes in), but I'm skeptical of it and I'm almost certain my insurance wouldn't cover any of that. I can try asking my surgery center for a recommendation. I didn't ask them because I wanted to get someone in-network for my insurance, but at this point, I think I'd rather pay out of pocket for something that actually helps. I have a high deductible that I haven't met yet, so I'm paying out of pocket right now, anyway. Maybe I could ask the therapist who did my pre-surgery eval for a recommendation. I've actually thought about going to him because I liked him and I could tell he knows a lot about WLS, but it seems weird (and maybe a conflict of interest) to see the person who did my eval. I agree about not liking homework! That's another thing that annoyed me about the first one -- he was big on homework, and it was all really generic, nothing that he came up with specifically to help me. I had told him that my biggest struggle was that I felt like my surgery and weight loss is taking over my life and I have no time or energy left for anything else, and then he comes up with some busy work for me to do.

    Strength after sleeve?

Just had my my one month check up yesterday, which I was actually at 7 weeks out from surgery, and they told me I could not lift weights, or even use the bands, until after 3 months. They said in the beginning they just want me to concentrate on cardio then I can worry about toning and strengthening after 3 months. Now that was just my plan/surgeon. I know others here who were able to lift a month out. It all depends on your doc so definitely ask those questions. And of course they will tell you a guideline they like to follow but it will ultimately come down to how you feel afterwards. If all goes well then yeah, it goes according to plan. But if you end up being someone who runs into issues then it could be longer and not according to plan, ya know? I started going to the gym regularly about a month and a half before my surgery. And was surprised at what I could do right out the gate after not having been at the gym in years. I would like to get back to it when I can. Despite the weight I lost since surgery, I do not feel as thought I lost much muscle/strength. If given the green light, I feel like I could jump right back into the gym and be lifting the same weight/reps/sets that I was before. It may even be easier since I've dropped almost 35lbs since then. Of course my situation doesn't even compare to yours as I was not competitive nor was I in the shape that you were physically. LOL Either way, discuss this all with your surgeon. At least then you'll get an idea at what to expect. On a side note, strongman competitions on TV used to be one of my most favorite things to watch on TV years ago. It used to come on regularly every week. I haven't seen it on air in over 10 years. Wish it would come back on again. Best of luck to you.
  10. Hello all I am 16 days post op from gastric sleeve. I lost 10 pounds quickly the first 5 days after surgery and have been at the same weight for 11 days now. 😥 I have been following my program: meeting water goals, starting supplements when I was supposed to and following the food plan. I know that stalls are to be expected, but darn it if it isn’t frustrating! When will it end? I am putting it out into the universe that I want to bust through this wall! How long did your stall last and was it right after surgery for you as well? On the positive side: I am already off of 3 of my 4 blood pressure meds, feel good, and have been sleeping great. I’m trying to focus on these great healthy wins and not the numbers on the scale. Thanks to all for the support an insights offered on this site. I appreciate it greatly!
  11. Yes they do. My 10 year old son had to do it. I'm scarred for life from that stupid test! Congratulations on your pull - up! That's an impressive feat! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I am new here. Not really sure how to navigate this site yet. I am 1 month post surgery. I was told by friends who have had the sleeve that in the beginning it will be tough for them to get things down and keep them down. my doctor's assistant also warned me that things can come back up. The ONLY thing I had a problem with was avacado and I wouldnt really call it a "problem." about 10 burps... all better. Other than that.. lol I cook 4 eggs in the a.m. (scrambled) and eat them throughout the day. Sometimes one or two small baked sweet potato's and a shake. Not losing like I thought. Am I doing this wrong? Am I eating too much? I don't seem to have a problem with larger amounts at all. I honestly dont feel like I had anything done at all. Is there a chance I stretched my new stomach out? Any advice would be helpful.
  13. I can relate so hard to all of the above but the biggest NSV for me recently was that a few weeks ago we discovered that my 10 year old can actually put his arms all the way around me when I hug him now! Now he loves to "trap" me in a hug! Could not be sweeter!!!
  14. The 2019 ASMBS update recommends 5,000 - 10,000 IU / day vitamin A. My dietician does NOT recommend anything near that, and I can't find any multivitamin that has that much vitamin A. Are any of you bypassers actually taking that much?
  15. To get a surgery date!! I’m so happy, I scheduled my surgery today for August 6th and it can’t come fast enough! I started my journey in May of 2018. I enrolled in the 10 weeks of classes required by my insurance and then.... I broke both my feet. I stopped the classes half way through cause it was just too much to deal with. Then I started classes again in March 2019 and then... I got pregnant. I actually lost 70 lbs while pregnant, because I had hyperemesis gravidarum so badly that I couldn’t eat or drink and had to be on IV fluids for my entire pregnancy. Started classes again in 2020. BOOM. Covid. And then I needed surgery on my spine. But I finished my classes in January, had spinal surgery in March and I’m finally, FINALLY scheduled for my surgery!! Now all I have to do is wait for the next month to creep by. Come on August!!!

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

Congrats! You look great, btw. I also do Pilates for the loose skin issue as I lose weight. It seems to really help. m So nice to see what 10 mos. post op looks like. My Dr. told me that I probably won't be able to get skin surgery until a year post op. when he estimates that I will reach my goal. My arms are the worst but I really don't think I need to wait a year. Time will tell. Take care...

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

10 months post op and I’m fluctuating between 165-167. I’ve been exercising regularly and thankfully have toned a lot of my lose skin. I still have a lot on my upper thighs and stomach but I’m ok with that. At this point I want to lose about 5-7 more pounds - initially I thought more but I’m almost to where I want to be. I’m so thankful for this surgery.

    Fill after 13 years?

I haven't had a fill in probably 10 + years but I'm def back up at least 30+ lbs and I can eat and drink at the same time (also can have thin thin crust pizza in super small amounts) so I do feel I should have a fill but IDK where to go. I was a True Results patient and the fills weren't pricey to go get. Mine wasn't on ins but the self pay was not insane. But I remember that TR closed and they gave us a name of where to go but again it was so long ago. I did call the TR office I went to which is disconnected. My surgeon actually retired very soon after my surgery. Hoping someone can help on where to go. Next step dr google I guess.

Pants Size and Other Bariatric Sites

it depends on your weight. When I weighed almost 400 lbs, I had to drop a lot of weight to go down a size. Now I'll drop a size if I lose 10 lbs (if that...)

    Dilated Sleeve

Besides having gained weight back, what other symptoms did you have? I have only gained about 10 lbs back. But I feel like the acid reflux is getting so much worse. I DO NOT want to resort to PPIs!

Pants Size and Other Bariatric Sites

It was about 20lbs per size until I dropped from 286 to about 220. Then it was 10-15 lbs per size until I hit about 175. Now it’s about 5lbs per size at about 140.

    June Surgeries

Learning every day: Well, this is certainly a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least. I think I am in mourning for the way I used to eat. Trying to learn how to retrain my brain not to eat as much as it thinks it can eat. My new Tummy rebelled against me for a couple of days. I had dumping syndrome and vomiting (not on the same day) but it was pretty intense. I still think I can eat a whole egg in one sitting and I can't. I still think I can go out to eat and I can't (yet). My whole day seems to be consumed by trying to get the vitamins in and other meds I take because I can't take them all at once like I used to do. There are so many things I "can't" do but let me tell you what I can do... I can walk! I can sleep without sleeping pills! I don't need my diabetes meds! The pain in my knees and hips is subsiding. I don't have to sit down after 10 minutes of activity. Indeed, the future looks BRIGHT!!!

    July 2021 Surgery People!

It will get better, I promise! I’m on day 14 (my last day!) and today is liquids only. I felt like giving up on day 9…I wanted a burrito so bad but pushed through it. Days 10-14 have been much easier! Drink lots of water and you will get through :)
