    Pre op liquid diet

Thank you! I think part of the gain was because it was 3:30 in the afternoon and the beginning of my time of the month ( tmi) sorry! Will see what happens on Monday when I see the nutritionist.

    1 week post-op

Thanks everyone my RN called to check on me today. Sounds like something a simple enema (TMI!) will take care of. Thank goodness. The pain should be gone in a few days.
  3. Today is 6 days since my surgery. I've been home for 2 days after some complications in the hospital. Each day I feel a little better. But I still have some gas that I cannot get out. It travels into my ribs and backs and can be so painful. Sorry if that is TMI. If anyone has any pointers to getting rid of it I would be very appreciative. I have also been taking my meds the doctor sent home. But one pill (Carafate) is pretty large and it HURTS going down. Then I get nauseous quickly after taking it. I'm going to call the doctor and see if they have it in liquid. But like I said before each day is better than the last so I'll keep praying that I recover quickly.

To tell or not to tell?

I've struggled with that as well. People who don't understand often view any kind of weight loss surgery as a cop out. My weight loss began May 1, 2013 and I had surgery on Sept 23, 2013. In that time frame I lost a lot of weight. Whenever it came up I would tend to defensively point out how much weight I lost before surgery - like I wanted credit for doing it "the right way" or something. There was an element of shame about it that made me uncomfortable with sharing. I think this was more about me feeling good about myself than anything. Now I find myself being a bit more reasonable about who I tell and who I do not tell. I usually share important things with people who are important to me and usually do not share important things with people who are not important to me. The public (co-workers, neighbors, friends of friends and causal acquaintances) has no need or right to know. With important people in my life we mutually share successes, failures, hopes, disappointments, medical conditions and important life events. There is no shame in doing what you need to do to live a better life. We all, however, have a right to privacy and to live without the unwanted opinions of others being forced upon us because tmi has been casually tossed about.
  6. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since my surgery. I have been stalled for 2 weeks. I think one of my problems is I do NOT go to the bathroom (sorry TMI). Can I take milk if magnesia? I heard it could expand my stomach?? Just want to make sure.

    Buyer's Remorse

So far calories and such look ok but its hard be sure its not food related unless you post examples (not all calories are create equal)How are you doing on Vitamins? TMI ALERT How are your bowel movements? Are they super regular? If not this can slow down weight loss , which is why your team may add Fiber supplements and laxatives... Check in with your team soon and express your concerns. But let me tell you. I thought I was losing slowly (which I am) and was a little bothered by it a while ago until more recently when I noticed the sag in my skin and just then i became grateful about the pace and that it's not worse, which it would have been if I lost any faster. If you can think of any other info to add please do, we can help you figure out what questions to ask your team. Other than weight loss, how are you feeling? VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

    Protien

I believe these powders are not good either because my body is doing so well over all until I eat some of the stuff. Then my stomach is sick and I’m having diarrhea. What good is it to drink it if it’s going to come right out the other end. Sorry tmi. But there has to be a better way

pain in the mid to right back

Sorry if this is TMI but for me it was being constipated. Others will have different answers based on their experiences. As always if you have a question/concern you should call your doctor.
  10. 1. why do I have to wait till the 4th week to eat foods?? I feel like my body can handle them already. So I have been trying, but if there is a good reason for me not to, then I won't. I still only eat half a cup and feel full. SO I am doing ok with quantity. because those are the rule your doctor has set-up for your recovery. he's not trying to sabatoge you by setting unrealistic goals. we've ALL had to follow basically the same post-op diet. you have to give your body time to adjust to having the band around it. do NOT go against your doctors orders because YOU feel like you're doing okay. there are rules for a reason. 2. This is a little TMI but, how often do you guys have a BM? It seems to be once every few days for me, and I don't know that that is normal. this is a problem most of us have had after surgery so there's nothing to be shy about. since our diet has changed dramatically, so will the BM. check with your doctor and see if you can take a Fiber supplement to help you out. 3. will the gas and bloating ever calm down?? yes... i promise, it will calm down! 4. Do I have to take small sips of Water forever?? I am so thirsty I just want to chug water but I am scared to. ALSO I hate the Protein drinks I have (haven't found one I like yet) and I could get through them perop because I chugged them, now I have to sip slowly. Any suggestions?? for now, no chugging. your band is way too new. continue to sip, sip, sip. i'm almost 3 years post-op and i can drink a little quicker now but just remember how tiny your stomach is right now. if you drink too much too fast, it won't have anywhere to go and you'll end up throwing up the water. and that is a big no-no!! 5. Will our serving sizes be 1/2 a cup forever? I mean as long as we have the band?? yes, your stomach will remain the same size so that means the amount of food you can eat will remain the same. i'm sure it probably seems unattainable right now to eat that little basically forever, but it gets easier with time. i usually eat off a small saucer plate and not a big dinner plate. that way my plate looks full.

    PBing vs. Vomiting

Glad to help and glad to hear you are doing better. Yep it's so hard to break old habits - I will still take that extra bite that I know I don't need or really want and I know if I sallow it I will pb - so most time i spit it out I know tmi :cursing: Congrats on the 75lb !!!!!
  12. You should be able to put your arms above your head. I had no problem putting on a tee-shirt. As for pants, I wore comfy sweatpants. Your incisions will be high enough that you don't have to worry about the waistband touching any scars or hurting. I'd also suggest sweatpants as they are "baggy" which is "comfortable" and comfort is what you are going for in the beginning. This might be TMI, but what I had trouble with was putting on panties. In the beginning I needed my mom to help me with that. Its hard to bend in the beginning and can cause discomfort or pain. I'm 4 weeks out so if you want to ask more questions, feel free.
  13. OK...I really hate to ask such a question but really need to know. I have been trying to prepare for my upcoming surgery by eating low carb foods, cutting out all soda, caffeine, and sugar. I have surprised myself and really done well with it all. I suppose I am just trying to make it all easier on myself after surgery when I'm sure it's gonna be the hardest. Ok...the weird thing, now my poo is solid black. I do have a hiatal hernia so maybe that is playing some part in it. Should I be alarmed or is this just the diet change? I'm sorry, I know this is TMI but just kinda worried. Thanks in advance and happy losing everyone!!

    4 days post op

My hospital sends is home with therapeutic pillows. They want you to keep pressure on the incision sites when moving, sneezing, burping, farting, coughing, or pooping. I was lucky and pooped two days post-op. It was a struggle. I had to squeeze the pillow against my main incision while bearing down. Kinda felt like I was playing bag pipes on the potty. I got my sleeve done on Tuesday and everything has gotten easier everyday. I have used no pain meds since the day of surgery. Water water water. Protein protein protein. Walk walk walk. Ps. There is no such thing as tmi. We're all in this together and bodily functions are now considered pleasant conversation.
  15. At first I thought so...I started at 195 on the day of surgery. My highest weight while married as been about 220. I am now 165...You would think I would feel sexier and I do when my clothes are on. Strangely...I feel less so when they are off. Sounds strange and maybe TMI...but my breasts were a full size DD and although I was larger physically...I was firmer. Here's the TMI part...my boob's have deflated and everything seems to so much more saggy (e.g. tummy and thighs)...I actually feel more self conscious than before. I know its strange...but that's my answer. I am exercising and although I am firming up...the loose skin is still an issue.

    Out Of Curiosity.....

I'm almost 1 year out and YES you get drunker/buzzed faster- 1 glass of wine will do me in- 2 Jello shots will be a good buzz... Mixed drinks depends on how strong they are and I stopped drinking the frozen drinks because they are a) full of sugar and fill me up too fast- I prefer now to just drink at home because when I go out I rarely will finish the drink I get and to me that is a waste of money- at home I can make whatever size I want... I have only gotten "drunk drunk" 2 times since surgery and it wasnt fun- I needed to throw up and was afraid of doing so- it eventually came up on its own and then there is the peeing factor- with such a small tummy I swear it goes to the bladder twice as fast henceforth once you open the flood gates and go 1 time you are in for the night (for me anyway).. TMI sorry... But I reccomend to try it and see how you do- but it will DEF be WAAAY different and waay less post op than pre op... GOod luck--
  17. So I had surgery yesterday morning. Felt pretty good coming out but then once I got settled it hit me. I'm assuming my port is on my right side because I have the largest incision there and it's SO SORE. Like so bad that morphine wasn't touching the pain. I was so prepared for the gas pain post surgery, but I've had none! I wasn't expecting this pain. I was also prepared for constipation but I've had the complete opposite, and I'm hoping it doesn't mean I have to stay in the hospital longer. Did anyone have diarrhea bad after surgery? Sorry for tmi. It's not like I have a stomach ache, I think it may have been from a small cup off apple juice and my body wasn't used to the sugar. I'm ready to start feeling better. A little nervous to get home because of getting on and off the couch/bed. We'll see how everything goes, one day at a time, right?

    pain and walking

Exactly! You said a mouthful!!! I just want to be normal. we are hardly "eating" any calories, so we're tired from that. Then add the pain (and TMI, I got my period a few days ago, so through that on there). Thankful I have everyone on here to gripe to, LOL. I know my husband is sympathetic, but he can't fully understand (I'm glad he doesn't have to go through this).
  19. Well I just had a tiny bowl of coco puffs because well I'm on my rag and I need chocolate and I notice within 5 minutes I'm on the toilet. Is this dumping syndrome? I have noticed some foods I eat this happens so I'm thinking hellooooo this is that dumping syndrome. Anybody else experience this? Am I just the lucky one? God this happens and man I never want to eat again!
  20. My doc gave me a choice of BariEssentials or Optifast. I chose the BE, and I got 4 a day if i used skim milk, and 5 a day if I used water to mix it. The thing they are trying to accomplish with the pre op liquid diet is shrinking the liver. Weight loss is a bonus, but they really need that liver out of the way so they don't damage it during the surgery. If it is too big, they will either cancel the surgery, or convert to an open incision where they can manually retract the liver out of the way. TMI??

    Plane Flight Home

I am 6 wks post op... had 2 flights to home ( left 8AM arrived 11PM) so long day. I was worried but did great! Like others said... had G2 now for TMI comment -- ( which was glad I did since I had my first BM that AM and needed the G2) And also got aisle seat. Due to longer day/flight I packed shaker bottle and Syntrax nectar but never used it. Had Soup in airport w/ friend for meal! I was on full liquids by that day! Also didn't use wheelchair others suggested as I felt like walking when I got the chance!

Need to pass gas - just home

Today for me has been a great day. Woke up better , got more liquid in. Protein didn’t do will I will try a different flavor. Sort of got heart burn with chocolate. Still was really good. TMI - had a BM . A little constipated probably from all the pain meds at the hospital. Is it bad to push when you have to go. I’m concerned. Tried not to but sort of had too. Sorry for the details . CW:245 Surgery date :Dec 19, 2017

    Maybe TMI

How long after surgery did you guys have a BM? I'm just one day post op but was curious as I haven't yet.
  24. I know this is TMI, but I am desperately in the NEED to know! My bowels have not moved since B4 surgery. Tomorrow, April 2nd will be one week out. Is this normal? Any suggestions on what to take?

    Women Only!

TMI but I've been wondering :/ I got my period the day after my surgery, my period has always been light, medium for three days and will then go back to light and finish within 5 days of starting. This time my period is a whole other beast! I have been bleeding very heavily, not soaking per hour, but it is noticeably different, today is day 7 and I'm still bleeding...not as heavy but it's there ????....is this just how things are now until I lose all the weight or is it like a one time thing?
