I'm tall and carry most of my weight in my legs. I'm ecstatic about this NSV but will say the pant sizes are going down much slower 😕 We will get there

I have been overweight since 4th grade. I always hated getting ready or dressed up because I hated the mirror. I was married 12 years ago (I was 18) and at that point I was getting dressed in jeans and at shirt, little make up and pulled my hair up. It only got worse 2 years later after I had my first child. As each kid came along I gave up something more with the first, it was make up. The second was jeans (went straight for sweats and elastic pants) and by the time the last one was here I was showering every other day and really not taking care if myself. I was never "dirty"or unkempt, I would just have a baby wipe rubdown and call it a day. On to the good news. I am 2.5 months out, down 53lbs. Gone from a size 28 to a 20 and you know, I get up, shower, I cut my hair, put makeup on and generally take care of myself. My whole adult life I avoided myself. I find I can actually look at myself in the mirror and point out one or two things I don't "hate". I know I am a long way from being considered beautiful (lucky for me my hubby thinks I am always beautiful) but I care now. And that is something I haven't been able to say for 12 years! Those that are pre op, keep up the hard work, it's worth it. Those that are sleeved, we should take a minute to reflect on what we have gained, maybe even write it down to pull out on those "bad" days :-)

    Yikes! It's finally here!

So far, so good! I am really surprised that I am not hungry! And even though I am not banded yet, I had the best NSV on Monday. I had an extremely stressful day and that is when I usually turn to food, but I didn't!!! I was so proud of myself! Take care and keep updating!

NSV - No more seatbelt extentions!!

you guys, what awesome NSV's - keeps us pre and newly banded with hope to have those soon :second:
  6. The other day I hopped in the cruizer and grabbed my seatbelt and put it on , about half a mile from the house it hit me - I was not using my seatbelt extention. It was on the passanger seat where I sat last night!!! It just hit me that I was not being choked and I had room to move around and stuff...Totally amazing:clap2:
  7. Went to the big charity concert first Boston Strong last night. A young cute guy sat next to me and was chatting me up and flirting with me. I have the best fiance Who Let me play along with the flirting to boost my ego. It felt awesome! Also, I never had time for dinner so I fought all the temptation to eat crappy food the stadium offers. I munched on a Quest bar to keep from getting shaky. So proud I won against the junk food.
  8. Okay, so it was freezing out this morning and as soon I started my van the tire pressure light came on; I went to a local store that has air and had a guy (a very nice looking one) come from around the OTHER side of my van to "help" me put air in my tires…He then proceeded to check every tire on my van to make sure they were all good. I was like WOW!! I'm happily married, but it sure made me feel good!!!

    3 NSVs in a 24 hour period

Congrats on your NSVs! I need to keep off the scales and focus on the NSVs. When the scale jumps up and down or doesn't move, it can be rather depressing. I'll have to think about NSVs more.
  12. Congrats! I can't wait to have an NSV to post on here!

    Shopping NSV

Congratulations @@triplethreat !!! I know that had to feel great! The first of many shopping NSV's I'm sure. I'm hoping by October, my birthday month-- I will look forward to Shopping NSV's. For now I'm just enjoying the fact that my clothes currently fit me well. I tend to wear my clothing pretty snug, lots of material with stretch.. so I've been able to get away with wearing sizes that I have no business in. I don't imagine I'll be doing any shopping for a hot minute but I have a feeling that even when I do, unless its something insane... I won't be satisfied. I feel like I've been there before recently so it doesn't count (even though it does). Like for example-- I bought some fitted button up shirts for work when I first started this job 2 years ago. I gained some lbs and had to retire it or wear as a layered look with a cami underneath, and a crop sweater over it. I'm back in the shirt today, comfortably just like when I bought it and although I'm glad I to be back into it, I'm still like whatever I should be in it anyways. When it gets too big for me to wear, then I'll be satisfied. Keep up the great work!!!

Tonight I went to Target and bought a couple shirts. One was in the women's department but i went from a 20/22 to a 16/18. Secondly, I bought my first shirt in the "normal" girls department... granted it is a XXL but that doesn't matter. I have not been able to buy anything in that dept. for years and years..... I am sooooooooooo happy!:clap2:
  16. So to day was getting ready for work, and pulled out a pair of jeans, thinking these are not going to fit. Holding my breath in goes one leg then the other and up they went...and where loose in the thighs and waist!!..so happy at 645 this morning I call my boyfriend of 3 yrs to tell him, he said good job babe, but I don't think I can handle this weight lost thing...I need time....WTH!!

    NSV

I'm 9 weeks post op and have lost 40 lbs but stalled for the last 3 weeks. However, today I got a NSV at my dr apt. She eliminated the last of my diabetes meds and my cholesterol med!!! I'm so happy!! Just have 2 BP meds to get off next or at least decreased.
  20. It is hard to beleive that it has been 13 months since I have been banded. A lot of things have happen since being banded and I will do that in another post. In June of 2007 I went in for a sleep study and found out that I did indeed have sleep apena. I was put on a CPAP machine in August 07 and did ok with it. I was banded in September of 2007. After being banded I was having some issues with the CPAP machine, in regards to being bloated all the time and taking the mask off at night. I talked with my doctor about this and he had the machine set to the lowest settings. He also suggested that I look into getting a dental applaince. I went and meet with the dentist who deals in sleep apnea and she said it would not be a problem and so it took about 4 months to get it approved by insurance. I was fitted with the herbest retainer in February, 2008. I went back to my doctor who handles the sleep apnea in August and he was real pleased with the way I looked and the amount of weight lost. So the doctor order a new sleep study. I had the sleep study on year to the date of being banded. I will say that the band can help people get away from using the CPAP. Keep in mind that everyone is differant and what works for one might not work for the other person. Here is the results of the study: Per Band Original study (pre weight loss) Weight 250 BMI 40 Breathing event per hour: 68 Total breathing cessation per hour: 49 Lowest recorded oxygen level: 70% Banded New Study: post weight loss Weight 186 BMI 29.1 Breathing events per hour: 19.4 Total breathing cessation per hour: 19.4 Lowest recorded oxygen level: 91% With the Herbst Retainer Dental Device: Breathing events per hour: 4.6 (counting little bitty ones 6.2) Total breathing cessation per hour: 4 Lowest oxygen level: 92% It turns out that with the Herbst, you are worst when you lie on your left side. Then you have 8.3 events per hour. In dream sleep, you have 10.2 events per hour. I went to the sleep doctor this week to review this study and he said that I could stop using the CPAP Machine and continue with the Herbst Retainer. He also said that my numbers were low enough that even if I did not use the retainer that I could do away with the CPAP. He also felt the numbers would go down lower with more weight loss. My goal range is between 165-175. He also said that I did not need to come back and see him unless I feel that Iam having problems. He said that I can just go back to the dentist and get a new herbest retainer when this one wears out in a few years. Also I no longer have any snoring issues either. So as you can see here proof is in the pudding about the band and how it can help everyone out. It just takes a lot of time and effort to make it all happen. It does not happen overnight. 21. My wife and I were banded 9 months ago. So far I have lost 50 lbs. She has lost about 40 lbs. Also her sister was banded a month later and is doing well also. It has been the best thing the three of us have done. We both saw the doctor yesterday and felt we were doing fine. He felt that the wife did not need a fill. I will get another fill next Monday. He did say that ice cream is one of the things that will put the weight on and cause you not to loose. My wife and sister-in-law are now calling me skinny. While at the regular doctor yesterday he said that my BP was good and do not need to come back until January. Then will do more bloodwork to see how things are going. He did ask about goals and I told him I was looking at about 165-170. Not going by the charts. He felt that was a good weight to shoot for. I will say it is the best thing we have done. There is a lot of NSV that have happen etc. Next week I go to see my partents and they will see the results. However they or my sisters do not know that we (I) have done the band. Good luck and keep us updated on how you are doing. Chris
  22. Great NSV!! Good for you for doing what it takes to make yourself more healthy!
  23. Tried on cute winter boots this year and couldn't buy ANY except super short ones because my short fat legs would not fit into any of them. I was mortified and my husband felt terrible for me! I am 10 weeks from being sleeved in Mexico and I'm focusing on positive things like this. I want to be able to fit my calves into some cute boots this coming winter!!

  25. ...lucky me... Got into a previously tight bathing suit and it felt loose, how often does that happen? And took my kids to a family dance at the school last night and was sitting in a chair, looked down at my thighs and thought, "Whose long thin thigh is that?" Honestly, didn't recognize my own thigh, or at least hadn't really looked at them in a while. Yes, the banded life is good. How about you? You had any NSV moments lately? Do share.
