Well, it seems I'll be getting the surgery sooner! We had to cancel our trip after I visited the ortho doc and found out my MRI shows a rotator cuff tear, damaged bicep, and bone spurs. I have to have surgery on it as soon as possible. But I'd have to wait 3-4 months after that surgery to do the bariatric surgery and I didn't want to wait. So we decided to do it first! I'm having bariatric surgery November 1st and a few weeks later we'll do surgery on the shoulder, this way we can get both in under this calendar year. I'm tired just thinking about it. LOL I started the pre-surgery diet today since he wanted me to do 3 weeks. I'm hungry already. 🤣

Any April Surgery Dates?
Jim DiCristo replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your stall was kick started. I had an awful September but the last 2 weeks I got back on track with getting in more protein and it has worked like a charm. I'm back on the protein shakes (once a day) to supplement my diet and get in around 100g of protein. I got off of the shakes for a couple of months because I got sick of them but I found some new flavors. -

Hi Eva! My mouth has been extremely dry since the surgery. I am lots and lots of sips of water. Had a little Gatorade Zero with Protein yesterday, but that was pretty much all I had besides water. This morning I had 4 ounces of a protein shake that I sipped over about 45 minutes and it felt fine. And I'm still sipping lots of water because of the dry mouth. I would LOVE to guzzle it and I've had to stop myself a couple of times from doing so! I HAVE felt little hunger pangs that are very temporary -- about three of them since yesterday and then they go away. I occasionally feel a little "woozy" -- like slightly lightheaded, but nothing major. I have felt VERY tempted to overdo it and go back to my regular schedule because I feel so okay. My sister, who is a operation recovery room nurse, is here visiting with me during this for a week, and she's very helpful. I almost cried when I asked her to please get up in the morning to feed my kids breakfast, make their lunches and get them to school (they are teenagers) so I could sleep in because (a) I hate asking for help, and (b) I feel like I need to do those things. But she of course insisted on doing it because I need to rest for a few days. I'm working from home this week (and maybe next week too) and I'm already answering emails. I knew my biggest struggle would be to slow down and take time for me, so that's just what I need to focus on every day, all the time. -

Hi for my survey I have to do a 8 day pre-opt diet 3 shakes a day and solid protein and veggies for dinner it’s an 800 calorie diet. I have been buying the premiere protein drinks but some of the different flavors so far, the cinnamon roll is my favorite, root beer float is really good. Birthday cake is good as well as the pumpkin spice they all have the same amount of nutrition, protein and calories. I’ve been drinking the shakes since January I do a vanilla for breakfast with 6 ounces of decaf coffee and that’s a great morning shake for me I’m not too fond of the vanilla by itself. The banana flavor is also really good. If you like banana with this brand. Hope that gives you some good ideas. Good luck on your journey you got this. -

Covids affects on Surgery

a lot of people who had COVID had to wait until they were over it, but since your last office visit isn't until next week and your surgery might be scheduled for several weeks out, I doubt you're going to have any issues. -

Hi there. I had the exact same reaction when I started my pre surgery diet. I mean, the diet itself is ugg boring but the MENTAL reckoning- WOW! Wasn’t prepared for that. It took a lot to get to where we are, and it’s going to be hard work getting to where we want to go, but what a prize we’re hoping to find on the other side- US, who we want to be, what we want to be able to accomplish. I’m half way through my pre-op (2 weeks), surgery next Monday. It got better a few days in, something everyone assured me would happen. Dig deep and best wishes!! -
Hello all...I really do not know how this works. Anyway here goes.. I am over 50 and I live with and take care of my 76 yr old mother. She had back to back strokes approximately 10 yrs ago. Recently she had another stroke. She has to go back into rehab soon. (shes not released from hospital yet) During all this mess I have tested positive for Covid. I would like some help with questions i have regarding both our well-being. Scheduled for my last office visit for next week and don't know how this (covid) may affect securing a surgery date. Any information out there from anyone in a similar situation would be most welcome.

I had my gastric bypass surgery on 9/26/2023 and was doing ok recovery until this week. I’ve been in unbearable pain and went to the urgent care and unfortunately my longer incision has an infection. The pain is horrible and I knew something was so wrong because the oxycodone was doing nothing for my pain. Really got freaked out when it began draining in its own. It’s been non stop. 😭😭😭. Very stressed and angry that I’m still having issues and can’t get around better. -
I'd like to give you November people a huge red flag heads up warning. Please discuss with your surgeon (do not let them blow the question off, because they'll try to!) Everything went excellent for me (surgery September 20) except recovery room wake up. I was in outrageous pain and the nurses didn't care. I was experiencing nausea, pain in the front side of both shoulders, and overall abdominal pain. I couldn't help but loudly vocalize, "Owww, owww, owww!" All the nurses would do was say, "don't worry, it's just gas." And they handed me a barf bag. What I wanted them to do was empathize and give me some drugs to get me out of pain. But it took about 30 min of torture before someone finally did that. I was outraged at their lack of care. At 2-week follow up with my surgeon's nurse, I told her about it and she shared, "I'll discuss this with Dr. Reddy because you're the second person today with that same story. That's awful. Something needs to be done." This was at Sutter Roseville Hospital, Roseville CA. The recovery room is for all surgeries, not just gastro. But I felt like my well-being was totally violated, and I just want to tell all of you to please, please discuss your recovery room expectations beforehand with your surgeon. Aside from that half hour of hell, my recovery has been flawless. Not one minute of pain or nausea. Didn't take any narcotics after hospital release the following morning. Just Tylenol, and was fine. No nausea meds needed either. The one thing that is concerning me a bit is how un-energetic I am. I think it's because I'm still recovering and will improve rapidly when I am eating the final phase of foods, which actually began today. Good luck to all of you.

My Gastric Sleeve Journey
TRClark23 replied to TRClark23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a bit of a new update... I started a new job in September so I've been pretty busy. Since my last update, I've lost about 10lbs. I haven't really been eating the way that I should and have missed a vitamin here and there, but I'm still progressing. My new job takes me out of town and I don't really get to cook like I normally would. I'm planning to get back on track this upcoming week. I'm hopeful to reach my weight goal by my birthday in January. I've found that of all the foods I've eaten since surgery, the only food that I haven't been able to tolerate is beef, of any kind. I also don't tend to tolerate bread very well. I've really been craving coffee (since I gave up all carbonated/caffeinated drinks before surgery) but it doesn't really agree with me either, lol. -
I've found that I still can't really tolerate beef. Everything else that I've tried, I've had pretty good success with in moderation. The only thing that I've found I can take more than 3 bites of without feeling miserably full are Pringles, and I know I shouldn't be eating them, but it is what it is.

Yeah, since surgery I have 2 or 3 cups a day. If acid is a problem, I have read there are good low-acid coffee.

This last 50 pounds is the bane of my existence!!!
Tomo replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last pounds are difficult and the maintenance isn't really better, if not worse. It is a constant grind and long battle to maintain and not gain 5 lbs that can lead to 20, 30... etc. This is our reality, no matter whether it's the band, the sleeve, the bypass and any of the revisions... And it bites. I was thinking the other day that after all this time, I just want to eat everything I want for a week lol but then, I know if I go that route, I'm feeding my emotions not my body and it would be near impossible to take it off again like in my honeymoon stage. So I put that out of my head since being thin is a priority. So big Hugs, hang in there, you have come such a long way. We have all come a long way. Let us count the blessings that we made it this far and we have major improvements in our lives. [emoji3059] -

Why don't I feel a restriction - 4 1/2 weeks post-op
MarTheTeacher replied to MarTheTeacher's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's funny that you mentioned the sneezing because I was just sneezing and asked my husband, do you think I'm getting sick and then I read your post. Thank you for your detailed reply. This is so new to me and I'm definitely going to look back into the portion sizes. I just started soft foods this week and trying to get the water and proteins in. Just hoping it gets easier in time. -
Why don't I feel a restriction - 4 1/2 weeks post-op
Arabesque replied to MarTheTeacher's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lots of nerves were cut during surgery so you have to wait for them to heal for messages/signals to get through. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to start to feel it. I always say all because you can doesn’t mean you should especially when your healing & signals aren't getting through. Stick to your plan (food, eating & drinking strategies, etc.) is the best advice. It takes time for the message to get through you are full - at least 20 minutes (& that’s after you’re fully healed). If you keep eating until you feel full you likely have eaten more than you need. Eating until you feel satisfied or had enough like you said your doing is best. I still ask myself do I need the next bite or just want it. It’s all about tuning into your body & its needs (listen to your body). You get better at it over time. Also many find when they are healed, the signals are different. Some say they sneeze, or their nose runs. Were you given portion sizes to guide you? If not ask for some they are helpful to ensure you don’t eat too much. I was told. 1/4 - 1/3 cup from purée (week 3) slowly increasing to about a cup at 6 months. You may be told something different. -
Struggling with Post-Surgery Challenges
MarTheTeacher replied to taylrmarie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel you and will pray for you. I'm almost five weeks out and this is not what I expected. It took toll on my body physically and emotionally. I started seeing a therapist to help me through this. I heard it will get better in time. For me it's the ups and downs of my sugar level and my grief for food (therapist said). All I can say is to take it day by day. I consulted with my doctor and if these symptoms continue I'll have to do a reversal of the surgery. He said it just takes time to get used to as most people experience this. -
Getting your hair professionally colored?
MarTheTeacher replied to jacquelynn22's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I colored my hair a week out of surgery. Due for another color tomorrow. No one told me you cant color but as for hair falling out, It's perfectly normal. I'm going to add a YouTube video of an awesome bariatric doctor explaining why it happens. It has nothing to do with coloring. -
Why don't I feel a restriction - 4 1/2 weeks post-op
MarTheTeacher posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, I had my surgery a little over a month ago and just had two small stuffed squash with beef and a tiny bit of rice. I ate the first one thinking I'll feel the restriction and felt nothing, I went in for the second one and had a couple sips of water (I know I need to wait 30 min) but I feel fine. I think I might be full but I can't really tell. I feel satisfied but I know if I want I can more in and that's not something I want to do. Anyone felt this before. Not too much restriction after the surgery.
