Don't worry...you will feel more restriction with solid protein...yogurt is *almost* a liquid...and your body starts digesting food the minute it goes in your mouth...so 6 oz over an hour doesn't sound super unusual to me

Hard to make yourself eat when for so long on diets you were trying not to!
moongirl replied to SuperMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same problem. I had surgery June 15th and I am still on liquids. I only consume 150-200 cals per day and maybe 10-20 grams of Protein. Nothing appeals to me except yogurt. I eat the Fage yogurt because it is high in protein. I was able to drink Protein shakes preop too, however now they make me retch. I was able to add some of the Protein powder to my yogurt and it went down okay. Hope you the chicken soup works for you. -

8 wks post op need help with food question
Johndoe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days (sorry for the typo on the subject) post op and I have followed my surgeons diet plan to the T but tonight I got so hungry that water or chicken broth wasn't doing it for me. I went out and bought a Dannons light and fit yogurt which is about 6 ounces. And in about 40 minutes I ate all of it. I'm just wondering is this ok or not. I'm freaking out. -
I'm still on liquids so puréed soup - either tomato with plain Greek yogurt mixed in for protein, or creamy chicken noodle.

why no carbs phase two?
Heatherr replied to ladiebashful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plain greek yogurt does not have that many carbs. I'm thinking you got the sweetened kind. Get the plain and add sf syrup as pp suggested. It's also nice to use as a dip. Just mi seasonings in it, dry ranch dressing, dill, garlic and herbs, etc. and it makes a great dip for veggies or meat. -
Hey there sleevers. I am 2 weeks post op and the first two weeks were ok. Now I'm sick of the soups, pudding, jello, yogurt and protein shakes. I gross out just looking at them, and eventually gag. I'd rather starve than eat anymore of this crap. I cant stand the cream soups either. Any tips on what i can eat..I start puree stuff on sunday. I have also had these horrible eppisodes of the hicupps, Is this common..Please help!

Eating solids right after lap band surgery
nu2ywg replied to Tammartin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would check with your doctor, 4 weeks seems like a long time unless there was something unusual with your surgery. For my surgery, the first 2 weeks are things like protein supplement drinks, clear or cream soups with no chunks, yogurt, applesauce, baby food, etc. Phase 2 is 2 to 4 weeks and includes soft solids like soups with noodles or small chunks, cottage cheese, eggs, mashed beans, oatmeal, soft cooked veggies, canned fruit...I`m looking forward to phase 2 but am only 3 days post op. Did your doctor give you any kind of handout at all...I would definitely check. Four weeks seems like a long time but I wouldn`t do anything without checking first. Good luck! -
For Banders Losing 3-4 Lbs./ Week-How Does Your Meal Volume Compare to This?
Rachel412 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that you're really wanting to lose a lot of weight quickly, but I'm worried you're going to beat yourself up and be very negative and frustrated if your weight loss is closer to "normal" than "fast". That being said, I have lost 19.5 in the month since my surgery so I guess that puts me right around the loss range you're wanting. I can tell you what I eat now, but I think the big difference is 1) I didn't have to do any liquid diets pre-op and 2) my diet now is very different than what I used to eat. I don't do eggs so most of the time my breakfast is 1/2 cup of Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt and 1/4 c to 1/2 of Kashi GoLean Cereal (high Protein, high fiber) mixed together. I have tea before that to help open me up and take my meds. For lunch I'll do 3 oz. of canned chicken and a tablespoon or two of low fat mayo mixed together with some spices, and I eat it with 6 or so celery sticks to scoop it up and get that crunch. dinner, I'll measure out 4 oz. of whatever meat my family is having and I'll add a side of veggies. Honestly I'm not a big veggie fan so my veggie intake is pretty limited to salad, celery, fresh salsa, etc. If I'm hungry between meals and can't handle it I'll have a low fat cheese stick. If I want something sweet after dinner I have some Jello Temptations that are 100 calories but usually I'll try to just have a cup of tea or a piece of gum instead. I'm not a person who needs a lot of variety in my menu. I could probably eat the same 5 or 6 meals for a whole week and not really mind. Am I hungry? Heck yes I am. I'm in bandster hell and running on fumes, but each time I get hunger pains I drink a big glass of Water and usually it staves it off a bit. -
I need advise! I have cheated 8 days post-op.

Focus on healing right now, not weight loss -- don't beat yourself up over bad choices, just resolve to make better ones tomorrow. Healing now and setting the right patterns will help you in the coming months with weight loss. Don't try to test your band or push it to see what you CAN eat, try to eat only what you need to. If you are eating because you are HUNGY then eat protein --shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt if allowed. If you eat the softest and highest protein foods you can find, you will be doing your band good AND your body & hopefully mind will be more sated with the higher protein. My Dr allowed such things during liquid phase -- check with yours. I am sure your band is fine for now, but let your body heal and let everything settle in. Now is not a time to be pushing the limits.....you got the surgery because you wanted to change your old habits, right? Let the band help you do just that. -
Eggface Frozen Protein Drops
Gastricsleeve4me replied to Gastricsleeve4me's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I smashed them down with a spoon before freezing...Gave it a good mix too, so consistency was like drippy yogurt before freezing -
I went back to work after three weeks to work a conference and was on my feet for for 10 to 12 hours a day. It was manageable and I was not excessivly tired. I did get a room with a kitchen and took some food and Protein drinks but tended to eat scramed eggs, yogurt, or cottage cheese most of the time. I also ran week long conferene between weeks 5 and 6. Did exceptionally well energy wise. Did not have a kitchen at hotel but managed well with a less restrictive diet. Also carried a bottle of Water at all time. Will you share your ideas on food choices?
Rachael replied to MOMIOF3CV's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been eating lots of greek yogurt. Yoplait makes a good one with 14 grams of Protein. I also baked some tilipa last night. Any white fish doesn't need pureed and I added some lemon pepper seasoning. I am planning on having refried Beans this week and cottage cheese and of course mashed potatoes. I have been trying to load up on protein and need to pull out my eating well after weight lost surgery cookbook. I didn't look at it through the clear/full liquid stages. -
I had my 4th fill on Saturday afternoon. I was told to be on liquids the rest of the day. (which I did) I could immediately tell the difference. I had trouble getting the liquid down. I did it... but it took a while. Sunday I advanced to having some chili. I could only have about 6 or 7 bites. For Snacks I could only eat half a yogurt Same thing is going on today. I tried having Soup for dinner but couldn't even eat a cup. I have had such a hard time getting the restriction I want (need) thus far. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I'm hesitant to get unfilled because I'm afraid of not enough restriction. Sorry to be a pain.... just looking for help before I decide what to do. (also...I seem to have the flu right now... could that make me tighter too?) Thanks guys!!

Day 14 - 2 weeks out!! I've lost 14 lbs! I am averaging about 500 calories a day and trying to get this Protein in. I'm getting about 44-50 grams in mainly in the form of Protein shakes and Greek yogurt. I went back to work today so that's a bummer lol I'm still getting sleepy during the day. Feel like I need a nap. Noticed my scrubs are a lil big on me today. I bought em when I was 40 lbs heavier though. I'm still having the problem of food going straight through me when everyone else is saying they are constipated. U would know I'd be different! I want Mexican food for some reason lately. Idk why cause nothing really is sounding all that great except Mexican. Maybe it'll be a refried bean, enchilada aside and bit of cheese night! I'm a couple of days late on this post cause day to day stuff seems a bit Boring.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I did ask her! She said I don't advise Protein drinks, you need to get it out of your daily diet. She also told me at month 2 I could eat some fries if I wanted. Her list of foods for me now include fruit flavoured yogurt, WHITE bread etc They haven't told me to not drink with meals' no waiting rules nothing! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

I went into the hospital at 7:30am, had my surgery at 9:30am, was in my room by 1:30pm, and went home the following evening at 8pm. They won't let you leave until you are drinking Clear liquids with no problem, peeing, and walking. Your pain level must be managed - I was fine regarding the pain but my room mate was a drama queen who moaned, cried, and screamed a lot. It was very clear that it was an attention-getting ploy because when her doctor told her he couldn't release her due to the amount of pain she was in, she instantly changed her tune and made a miraculous recovery! Lol After the fourth day I didn't need pain meds during the day, and after 7 days I stopped taking them at night too. Gas pain (from the air they put in you during the surgery) can be uncomfortable for a few days but walking around relieves it. Once home, I was on full liquids (smooth yogurt, cream Soups, sf pudding, Protein shakes). At my one week follow-up I was cleared to drive (they just want to make sure you're off the narcotics) and they gave the okay to go to pureed food. At two weeks I went to soft, mushy foods (anything that mashes easily with a fork). They will very clearly and in much detail let you know exactly what you can and can't do, and what you can and can't have, and why. And you have access to nurses, dieticians, and a surgeon 24/7 by phone (or in person if necessary). They are very thorough. Their goal is your absolute recovery and success. :-)

over eating 3 wks out
Nel replied to brandnewme2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, here is where someone has to say "measure your food" and then also say, there is a difference in soft food and dense food. I can eat 2.5-3 oz of dense food. For example: roast beef or chicken with cheese. That's it. If I eat more, I'm sure I'd throw up. I can eat an entire 5 oz container of yogurt though. With no feelings of discomfort. I've eaten more than that in yogurt. I had a 6 oz container one day. Why? It's soft and like liquid, it moves quickly through my pouch with no worries. So, the "soft" food...like Soup or liquefied stuff or potatoes...it's not dense food so you can eat more without discomfort. I felt "really full" from a few bites when I first started eating. So I'm not sure you're actually overeating. It's not like you just ate 4 oz of dense Protein and I don't worry about finishing off a container of yogurt. If it's a solid food, I measure and don't eat over the amount. -
Alright my friends! I talked to my dietician yesterday and she said I can start Solid Food in 2 weeks. I am to slowly start introducing new foods at that time so I know what I'm tolerating and what I'm not. So far I've had carnitas minus the tortillas, eggs, bacon, grilled chicken, tuna, peaches, applesauce, ham and yogurt on the soft food diet. I just kinda have those in rotation. I'm excited about incorporating more food but I'm not 100% where to start. It has to stay low carb per my nutritionist. I'm to avoid high carb/ high starch food for at least the next 6 months. Honestly I think I will avoid them the rest of my life. So here's my question... where do I start? I was wondering if salads are back in play or if that's too much ruffage and not enough protein. Advice? I look forward to your answers.

Did Anyone Else Have To Follow Eating "schedule" Weeks 2 And 3?
Amanda61082 replied to horsegirl315's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my post-op class last night, and I have to follow a weekly schedule. Week 1 clear liquids, Week 2 introducing creamy soups, yogurt, anything that doesnt require chewing, Week 3 &4 are kinda blended into what I can tolerate for solids, eventually getting to three meals a day, and weaning off the protein shakes. I guess every doctor is different. -
Did Anyone Else Have To Follow Eating "schedule" Weeks 2 And 3?
lorena st replied to horsegirl315's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds like you need to chat with your doctor/dietician. The diet you are being asked to follow is very different than most others, including myself, had to follow. Post surgery, I drank clear liquids for 1 week, Week 2-mushies (yogurt, smoothies, cream soups), Weeks 3 and 4-very soft foods (well cooked vegetables, chicken, fish, eggs) and Weeks 5 onward-normal foods-small portions, high protein, low carbs. -

Sleeved 3 days ago and feeling terrible.
bloomin_vjf replied to Skinnyagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When they moved me to my room after surgery, the TV was on the food Channel. Really? The first week I noticed there were a lot of food commercials. Head hunger - you know you can't eat it but you really crave it. After a while, I turned on music and read - a lot. My surgeon allowed full liquids - including no fruit yogurt (banana and vanilla were my friends), sugar free fudgesicles, popsicles, Jello pudding and Gelatin. I craved salty things. I'm sorry you're having a rough time - it may seem like a long time but you'll get through it. Keep your spirits up!
