Eating too fast, not chewing enough, or???
CurvyMom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just getting opinions BEFORE I decide if I want to email the doctor's office. I call them about two weeks ago and they never called me back, so I figure I would get opinions here before I waste time calling them 6 weeks P.O today.....allowed all foods. I have been eating yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken salad....etc. Added in occassionally- blue berries, some raw veggies, some cooked veggies. I have had some experience with what I assumed was eating too fast/too much and/or not chewing enough and eventually i have to throw up to feel better. the past week, i have throw up almost every meal with protein in it unless it was yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna (although once I threw that up), chicken salad yesterday. This morning I feel like i have blue berries stuck and threw up a few time already. These berries were soooooo small. Smaller than my normal pills I can swallow without being sick. two days ago i threw up salmon and green beans (maybe the beans?), then yesterday I threw up my lunch which was rotisserie chiicken (but there was definitely a piece of chicken stuck for hours...so I know i didnt chew it enough- cuz i saw it later TMI SORRY)..... any suggestions? Shoudl I just slow the hell down and go back to soft only and stop trying proteins that are "denser"....I really don't think I have a stricture though because I am able to keep down plain cottage cheese, plain yogurt, liquids ...etc but who am I to know. I am also not losing any weight right now which could be that I"m just not getting enough protein in or I am just stalled- but my primary issue is the vomitting almost every day. -
Yes my insurance is paying. I have high blood pressure and a TMI of 40.2. I lost about 45 lbs with the band but after five years have put 30 of it back on. I have had horrible reflux the last two years. I don't regret my band it just didn't work for me. My metabolism is in the tank so at this point my only option is RNY. Luckily I am covered and mayo clinic is doing my surgery.

Hello all, *My be TMI for some* I was sleeved 12/27/2016 in Houston, Texas. I am currently on Clear liquids only. I have had about 5 bowel movements since surgery and the last 3 have been liquid only and extremely black in color. Is this something I should be alarmed about? Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I have had terrible heartburn/acid reflux the past 2 days. Never really had it pre-op but it's extremely uncomfortable. Is this temporary or something that sticks around for a while? Thanks in advance for any guidance or support you can provide. I do plan on consulting my surgeon when the office opens. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing before taking to him.

You'll have to try different things until you find what works for you. I know want you're saying. (TMI) I thought I was going to have dig it out the first few times when I finally got to go. I now use a cap full of Miralax every day. Best of luck to you.

Ok so I had my surgery on Jan 7 and still have not pooped!!! I have taken miralax the last 4 days, and it am getting so nervous for when it does come ( if it ever does) I am getting 90 gr of protein, 64oz of water, and all my vitamins. The surgery was a breeze but I developed a Large hematoma that is very painful so I am still taking pain meds. What do I do???? I am normally an every day kinda girl. Is this normal, anyone have any advice?

Did all liquids the first day, mushies yesterday, back to normal today. I had a sandwich at lunch and was fine (removed the crust because that is more difficult to go down). Sat down at dinner with chicken and mixed veggies and some fruit. After about 2 bites of chicken, and a piece of zucchini, I got stuck. It went away so I tried again. And for the first time since being banded, I raced to throw up. And have been doing it since (so about 2.5 hours now). Sometimes it's actually food, but sometimes it is (sorry for the TMI), slime or foam. I thought I was taking small enough bites. Certainly smaller than before since I was earned that this fill was probably going to make me much tighter than before. I've never gotten stuck on chicken, and certainly not on anything to this extent. The chicken was a bit dry but I had BBQ sauce. Is this normal? Am I possibly overfilled? For what it is worth, I'm at 7ccs. My band is larger than most on here, it's between a 12-15 but I don't remember the exact number.

I'm 5 weeks out from RNY, and I'm frustrated and discouraged. I can't eat or drink without nausea, and many times whatever I put down wants to come up in a "juicy burp" (I'm really sorry if that's tmi). I talked to my nut yesterday and she suggested Popsicles because they take more time and should help going down. However, even the Popsicles make me nauseous. On top of that, since I'm barely eating or drinking, I thought the scales would show something for all my trouble, but I've stalled. I have an appt to see my surgeon next week. I know I have a narrowing of my anastomoses and he may go in and stretch that. Please tell me things get better!

I leave hospital tomorrow, stay in a hotel for a night and fly back on Monday. I have some Vitamin sprays for at home, but actually the hospital has been giving me my acid blocker in pill form, as well as my sleeping pill, so as long as it's not too big and you're careful not to gulp Water to swallow them, it seems to be fine? I got some great travel toiletries from Sainsbury's because air france charges for checked luggage so I didn't want to be check anything in, but it meant I could only have liquids in that clear plastic bag so I had to downsize. Depending on if you're robbie or kaitlyn you may want to bring sanitary pads and tampons, surgery can mess with your cycle so it shows up unexpectedly. I was expecting mine, but had to wear a tampon in surgery. If you're robbie, sorry for the TMI. -
i had so much trouble I had to do 2 enemas bc one didnt work (i know tmi) i now take miralax every other day and i go just fine.

Are you happy with your sleeve

I'm back again. I am getting all my fluids in, pooped (tmi but the best NSV right after surgery), walking around the block 1x a day, walking a lot in my house, etc. 198 lbs down from 220. Sleeved June 11th. I do not regret this one bit. I wish I would have cared more when I started getting fat. Alas, this is the best tool for weight loss. -

Questions for those who went from band to sleeve.
Oregondaisy replied to LaNalga's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go Elizabeth! I loved it when I had my trainer. Do you have a lot of trouble getting those pills you mention down in the morning? I take a lot of stuff. I have interstitial cystitis and there are a lot of herbs that really help with that. If I don't take them, I fee like somebody is shoving a red hot poker in my urethra. Sorry TMI but I just want to show how necessary it is that I take those. I figure I can dump most of them out and put them in Water, as they are capsules. I bought some chewable Calcium and Vitamins, but I am also worried about my hormones. Those I take at night. My estridol is a patch, but my progesterone is a capsule and it's some kind of oily stuff in there that I don't think I can get out. I'll have to get that capsule down somehow. -
Maybe a subject that is TMI but one that I def need to discuss. I am 10 days post op, have had no problems having a BM on my own (without the daily milk of magnesia my MD recommends) just having liquid bowel movements (eww that sounds horrible), I am thinking that is because I am still on a liquid diet, but at what point is it considered diarrhea if every bowel movement you have is liquid? Maybe if it increases in frequency? Also I feel like I have had a couple of episodes of dumping syndrome, I ate broccoli cheddar Soup (well blended -- also I know not the healthiest selection but it was Thanksgiving and I wanted a soup that was actually tasty -- and my favorite) and immediatley after was hit with the very painful need to go to poop (which I did -- and then my soup was gone out the other exit) any thoughts on avoiding dumping? When do you resume normal poops!?! I need to know hahah

Anyone else having these issues? Also I want to take a real shower. How the heck do u do that? I have been using the wash wipes instead of a full shower but want to wash my hair but am scared about the Water hurting the Incisions and hurting.

Hi! I'm new here, glad I found this place. I had my gastric sleeve 4/4/16 and my surgeon said it was a textbook surgery. I was up right away walking but just couldn't get the gas out. Every sip of Water or broth I had brought some serious gas pains and I even had a sharp stabbing pain in the stomach area. My surgeon felt it was best for me to stay another day. I continued walking, I'd make 3-4 laps around the ward, the nurses said I was doing an awesome job. However, I still couldn't/hadn't passed any gas. On day 2 the nurses really started to push the fluids more. I had my first popsicle and learned that the sips of water I was taking must have been to big for my stomach because I wasn't having the pains as much. I was discharged about 4pm, 4/6/12. I was still struggling with pain when I drank but about 1am in the morning the gas was finally coming out (sorry if that is TMI .... but I'm sure we all went through it) ... I have never been so happy in my life! Drinking was so much easier after that, I have my sipping down to a science now. Yesterday, 4/7/16, I woke up and I felt good. Decided to take my walk down to the corner and back not once but twice. I'm not really sure how far it is and had planned to map it out with MapMyWalk on my next walk. But that didn't happen. My right side was hurting pretty bad, my body was telling me to slow it down. So I had a very boring evening, with small walks around the backyard. This morning I'm back to feeling great. Little to no pain and almost finished with my first 20oz of water. But I am not going to push it today. I look forward to sharing my journey with all of you and of course getting to know all of you.

Eat What You Want In Moderation Or No?
kmbrlycool replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't figured out this whole thing yet... I recently have been having a lot of rice cakes... Granted they aren't horrible for you... But they are also not good for you either. And I can eat like 3 full cakes at once... Makes me worry about my stomach stretching. But... I feel like I do this more so when I am gettin and have my period (tmi?) -
I was banded on September 17th 2010 by Dr Speigel in Houston, TX. It was definately an experience. My last preop meal before my liquid diet started I had my Dad make his homemade Fried Porkchops & Rice & Gravy. I was in heaven. Then three days on clear liquids. Wasn't that bad, atleast there was a goal ahead to reach. The day of surgery I woke up in the recovery room thinging "What the hell is wrong with you Billie (me), Why on earth would you put yourself through this torcher. There is a foreign object in your body, and to top it off, you have to go through this crap again to have it removed." I was extrememly worried and scared. But every day after surgery was so much better then the previous day. The gas pains were eased by walking around, as were the nassea feelings. If I could burp, I would feel 100 times better. Its a totally different world burping with lapband. (tmi I know) but it is!! For those of you who just went through it, or are going to do it, just remember each day gets so much better. I'm barely going to reach my 3weeks post op on Friday and I've been eating solid foods for a week now. I feel like I'm over eating. Its time for a fill already, but I have to wait one more week. Keep your heads up and there is a brighter path to come!! Feel free to email or messageme anytime! I would love to have friends who are goign through the same thing as me, considering I have no immediate friends who live close and have had lapband, gastric, ect...

I was two week post op but pretty much whenever u are comfortable. I was nervous but he was on top and there was no pain at all actually (tmi?) because of the few lbs I dropped it was way more comfy!!

My surgey was yesterday. Went well! Hiatal (sp) hernia repaired too. Clear liquids today. No more IV fluids as my intake is good and output good too.small pain, easily managed. Walking worked to get rid of gas pain, and I can feel air rolling around in my tummy! No doubt I will be passing gas soon, sorry if tmi. Nurses are very helpful and encouraging. Hooray, hoping to go home tomorrow or Friday.

I've now had my period for 10 days. It is kind of light, but still I'm passing clots. I'm kind of getting a little worried. I usually go for 4-5 days. Also even the beginning of this period was weird, usually I start cramping a number of days prior, and get cramps on the day I start. This time. No cramps prior and none on the day of. I don't completely keep track, but it just showed up, and thinking back, it was on time. But I'm concerned I'm still bleeding. I was going to give it a couple more days before I call my gyno. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice. With all my weight loss so far, my period has always been consistent, so I'm unsure what changed, and I haven't lost a lot of weight recently. I did have a big drop last week (3.8lb), but over the last 5 months or so, I've only lost 15lb. Any advice is welcomed. TIA

Thank you! I think part of the gain was because it was 3:30 in the afternoon and the beginning of my time of the month ( tmi) sorry! Will see what happens on Monday when I see the nutritionist.
