  1. I was sleeved on april 30. I lost 10 lbs preop and another 20 in the first 2 weeks after surgery. I am in a stall that doesn't seem to want to break. I have been exercising (cardio) pretty consistently and I'm getting frustrated. I just started using "my fitness pal" to track my food and water. I am trying to get 60 g protein and 64 + oz of water. Calories seem to range between 600 and 900. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to eat more? Any help is appreciated.
  2. The stall arrived 3 weeks ago. I knew it'd come sometimes around the third month and it did at -25 kgs (or 55 lbs). I wasn't that happy, I wasn't sure what advice I should follow. And I basically didn't do much, apart from increasing my daily water. Today the scale was down 1 kg or 2.2 lbs, not much, but still. You just have to believe it will move again, because it will. And I can actually see amazing advantages coming from my stall: first of all my skin. It was going so fluffy I hated it but in the last three weeks it tightened and now it looks almost OK. People started noticing my weight loss. It's amazing how they didn't notice much while I was losing and now they keep asking me daily how much more I have lost (which is basically nothing!). My hair has a break too I haven't started losing it yet and I honestly hope this stall will avoid the fall. We'll see. Another thing I did is... relax. In the last 10 days I didn't stress over my non-weight loss. I was like "Whatever. At some point the scale will move again" and it did. I relaxed, kept going to the gym but no more often than before, I kept having my 2 days a week without carbs, I just went on with my life. I am really happy now because I feel good and my skin looks much better. I just wanted to share my experience, because it was a positive one even if it involved a stall!
  3. Hello all I am 27 years old and a mother to five young children aged 7 down to 2. I am 248 pounds and barely 5 feet tall. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes or any of that sort of problem however my weight restricts me from doing normal day to day activities that would otherwise be easy to complete. I have been overweight for atleast 10 years now. I have tried the Biggest Loser diet. I bought the books but lost weight and gained it back. I tried the weight watchers plan but also lost weight and gained it back. Drank a great deal of soda and pretty much gave it up and didn't lose any weight. I take trips to Boston MA on the train with my kids walk around for 8 hours in one day and walk every day for atleast 3 minutes and can not seem to lose a pound. I know that masshealth will cover gastric bypass, however I am a little concerned about that type of weightloss surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew if masshealth (and/or any of it's plans such as network health, neighborhood health, bmc plan) would cover the Lap Band surgery. I have been trying all day to get ahold of someone to tell me but the insurance keeps sending me in different directions. My brother died in 2005 when he was 25 from congestive heart failure because he was over weight and he has a pace maker put in when he was 21 because he ended up having left ventricular tachycardia. My dad died when I was 8 from heart failure and I have five children that I need to be there for because their father isn't really there for them and they are my world I would do anything for them. I owe it to myself and to my children to get healthy. Please if anyone can help me please let me know. Thanks.

  5. What brands of Vitamins best work for any of you? My surgeon suggested the Vitamin patch but I see bad reviews online. I'm a 30 year old male 330 lbs, my goal is 195.

    Blood thinner shots

I did. 10 days...you honestly just suck it up and pinch the skin and get it in there. Seriously, just thinking of the possibility of blood clots was enough to ensure compliance.
  7. Hey everyone...so, I'm thinking about this whole lap band thing. My situation is this: I work a ton, I usually have 4 days off a month...been working on paying down the debt (Dave Ramsey!) and dealing with my constant up and down weight loss battles. I do really good for 5-6 months, lose around 50-60 pounds and then something changes in my life and my routine fails and BAMM!.........the weight is back on. It's not like I live on pizza and beer. I actually care what I eat, I like working out, swimming, running, doing aerobic classes. I really think my body is just screwed up when it comes to maintaining or losing weight. Obviously, it's not like I don't eat bad sometimes, because I do...and sometimes I eat too much of something. Does everyone ever feel like your the only one working so darn hard to lose weight, all the time! Because I do, a lot! My good friend can order two dinners when we go out and he basically has been within 10 pounds of his current weight since I have known him for the last 6 years. There is just something different about him. I'm so happy my daughter does not seem to be taking after me. I was always chubby as a kid. And I loved playing sports...football, basketball, tennis, you name it. Most of my pictures growing up, you see me...fat, skinny, fat, skinny...back and forth my whole life. Now, though, it isn't going to the skinny side anymore. I'm willing to work hard, I just want to keep it off forever if possible. Let me know what you think, Have a great new year. I'm going to a bariatric seminar at my hospital next Wednesday. My wife is a little skeptical right now, understandable though. We'll see what happens.
  8. Hi all how long did your first fill last? I had chicken and noodles today for lunch at noon and im still full. I had to wait 24 hrs before eating after fill was on liquids. I am still full I can't beleive it and this is what I needed. Im so happy now I also worked out today it was only 10 minutes, but hey it's better then nothing im just getting started. Just wanted to share this since I started off on the wrong path before.

    Hair loss

Well June sleevers, it has officially begun for me, hair falling out pretty bad whenever I brush or comb and when shampooing. Can't really see the loss on my head but I am worried that will be next! Anyone else experiencing it yet? Sleeved June 19, down 53 lbs and feeling good!
  10. Welcome if you need a friend I'm here. I personally had the bypass but I needed to lose 150lbs and I have done that. Being 19 though you have to be mentally prepared for a huge change in your life where most of your friends are probably going out every weekend and socialising you'll not be as social you'll need to commit to this change of lifestyle totally to be successful and not let temptation take over. It is a good decision but a big decision I choose RNY BYPASS personally because I needed more than just sleeve and wanted better long term success as well.. The sleeve is fine if you only need to lose a smaller amount but there is chance of reflux issues and then needing a bypass anyway. Tell us more about yourself and what surgery you are thinking of and what research you have done???

Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?

DEFINITELY makes me full. I'm supposed to have 1 Protein (1oz), 1 Tbsp of vegetable and 1 Tbsp of fruit at a meal. But the thing is, those meatballs weigh 1.3oz each basically, so I end up having to not eat my fruit, because I get full just on the meatball and a Tbsp of potato...but that's okay! I get my fruit when I have chili and four cut green Beans from a can...that leaves me room for fruit. Or I'll have fruit with my egg. But right now I'm on a real meatball and potato kick, I love that combo. I'm the kind of guy who can eat the same thing over and over again if I like it, I don't need a ton of variety. Also, I bought a tub of the pre-made mashed potatoes in the deli section and then later realized that if I only eat it a Tbsp at a time, I'm gonna end up throwing most of it out before it goes bad. So I'm trying to use as much of that as I can. I'll still probably only get halfway through it, and next time I'm going to buy a box of the powdered potatoes, and then just make it as I go. Cheaper that way. Just one of those things where I was still in the old mindset of portions and didn't even think that it would be WAY too much potato for me to get through in a week or so. We'll see how far I get on it But yeah, liquids go down pretty quick and they pass through the stomach into the intestine pretty quick, but even chewing up my food to puree consistency, it stays in the stomach longer. They said to wait 45 minutes after eating to drink again, and when I do that I still feel like I've got food in there and can't drink that much at a time. I think it helps "grease the wheels" to help the food go into the intestine though, because after 10 minutes or so I am drinking fine. So far, so good. But after almost four weeks of nothing but liquids, I REALLY appreciate having something with flavor I enjoy and texture, and the need to chew! And I have to say, it is bewildering but also kind of awesome that I hardly need anything to feel full. My food expenses have been annihilated by this surgery
  12. Ok..title says it all I am supposed to be on a semi all liquid diet for 10 days. Under 40 gm carbs daily. I have been doing Protein shakes w Almond milk (next to nothing carb wise), broth, Jello an a few sugar free fugsicles (19gm for 2) I am type 2 and am really strugglung. MY surgery is in one week. They told me 2 weeks for pre op diet due to my weight assuming my liver would be huge Would I screw things up if I ate a piece or 2 of chicken? I cannot imagine that 10 days of 800-1000 cals w < 30-40 GM carbs and the rest protein that a few pieces of chicen would stall my liver shrinkage or cause it to balloon after shrinking some. or would it? I am really not looking for a license to cheat or whatever, like people asking can't I have a piece of wedding cake. I am serious about this and in for the long haul, but I am nearly seeing double and cannot stay awake. I have one more week of this and struggling any thoughts? I would hate to travel cross country (going to Mexico actually) and get there and they tell me they can't operate...I am not going to blow it over a piece of chicken! But what is the reality of what can be tolerated? Thanks for ideas ad experiences
  13. I'm three months post-surgery and I've been trying to avoid buying clothes because I've burned through three sizes so quickly. But my husband and I are traveling this month and I've been walking around NYC having to hitch my favorite--and only--jeans up. So I ducked into a store tonight, bought the next smallest size (12) and ... they are also too big on me. I haven't been in a 10 since high school. I haven't updated my weight because I've been away from my home scale now for three weeks. Can someone pinch me and tell me this is real. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Drivers license

I am laughing that I just commented on this a few days ago and last night the lady at the bank asked me for my license. First off my picture that is on mine license was taken after I was in a car accident and was still recovering from breaking almost every bone on my right side. I was still very much swollen as well as being heavy. I covered some bruising around my nose with makeup. I swelled probably about 10-15 lbs on top of the 265 I was(now 188). Now on with the story, she asked to see my license, she looked at it and me a few times. After she paused I told her I recently lost a huge amount of weight. She checked my signature a few times and it matched so she did the transaction. I didn't think that I looked so different until this. Maybe it is time to drop the extra $20 and get a picture taken?!?!? Still laughing and debating!

    I started working with Bands

Hi Rumar: I love exercise Bands! I have a few DVDs that use them. I first used them in a Leslie Sansone DVD and liked them so much I bought a total body Band workout. It's called 10 Minute Solutions: Tone Trouble Zones. FFG
  18. I'm 7 weeks post op, 2 day post 1st fill. I am brisk walking 5 x's a week 3 x s daily but my doctor told me to start doing weight resistance training. So after deciding joining a gym was just too costly right now, I read an article in Prevention magazine about working with bands. They did a study of which form of exercise provided quickest results between yoga, pilates , working with dumbbells or using band. The bands won. So my 22 year old daughter (who's lost 22 lbs with 10 to go) decided to be my trainer. She was a All State Athlete in High school traveling on top notch fast pitch softball teams and playing basketball. It felt great working my upper body and was fairly easy. But the lower body definitely needs a lot of work. I've been suffering from butt and lower back pain for about 6 months so I could barely do 2 situps and leg lifts. But I know, it will be a slow process and I'll have to work my way up to being able to do more with lower body. I'll keep everyone posted on my results. Thanks for listening!!

  20. It has been hell of late, 11 days to be exact. Bad stress test, then cardiac cath and there is nothing wrong with me, just a false reading. UGH! So I see the Psych next week which I am NOT worried and I have approval for surgery. YIKES. I still have some mental issues though I did not want to bring up at the Psych. I thought it would be better to hear from all of you. In my mind, I think about "Will this work for me", Will I be able to follow the plan" Will I be unhappy that I can't eat the things I want", "will I still want to eat them?", What if it doesn't work". Going to Mexico in November to an all inclusive which we do every year, will I be so "on the program" by then that it won't phase me?:001_tongue: So from all of you, I need some in sight. Am I the only one who thinks these things. I see so many success stories that it should lift me up but I am so scared I will be different. Will I be hungry? Will I be full? Can I g et all that Protein in? I don't work so I get up about 10:30 and eat and then don't eat lunch because I have dinner at 5. So about 4 I get really hungry. DoIj ust drink a Protein shake at 4 and hold me over. What if I don't get 60gm of protein in, will my hair fall out. I am 60 so my hair is thinning anyway. I have not seen the nutrritionist yet, they said 2 weeks before surgery. I guess they will answer some questions but I really need to know "Am I the only one who thinks these things?"

  22. I was banded on 10/1 and I am already starving- I am starting on mushie food at the end of the week, so I hope it helps- I guess I thought there would be a feeling of more resistance with just the band-It sounds like I won't feel the benefit of the band until the first fill and until then, we just need to be careful- Is that what most of you do?? Please help!!
  23. I've heard of the 3 week stall. But I stopped losing weight at 1 week. I lost 10lb during my 1 week pre op diet and 10 lb the week after my surgery. My surgery was 11/30. I haven't lost anything since 12/7. I use a Bariatric app to track all my food/water/vitamins. My calories have gone up over the past 2 weeks (as expected) from around 300 to 600 and my carbs are higher than I would like (around 35 avg), but I'm finding soft foods are limited. I am not meeting my water goals of 64 oz. I'm getting about 30 oz. If I do too much moving around, my incision sites get really sore so I have not started walking but I do a lot house work and go into my office a couple days a week (not just a couch potatoe, like week 1). Anyone else experience this? Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Preventing Scaring

Sneaking in here, for the the light brown spots you got with pregnancy. It's called 'mask of pregnancy' I believe, and I got a few patches on my face from my twins. Good times. I have found that Alpha Hydroxy with 10% Glycolic Acid from Ulta works really well. It is gonna burn coming on, but that is normal. It does dry your face out, so make sure to use a hydrating lotion in between applications.
