I am not experiencing this but wanted to say I’m sorry you are struggling and glad to hear that you are getting treatment. May I ask, are you post weight loss surgery? Was this a new development after the surgery?? If not, do you feel like they just missed it during the psych evaluation or did you hide it well. I am post surgery and suffer from emotional eating and they missed it on the psyc evaluation so I am currently seeing a specialist (racing the clock getting help before my tool stops working). i just wonder how often these things are missed during the screening? It doesn’t seem to be at all standardized because the first place I called said that I needed to be there an hour early to take written tests and I found another that could get me in sooner and I didn’t do any written tests. Maybe the tests would have caught it? Anyways, i hope you find someone who is in your same situation and wish you the best of luck in your treatment.

Hi Connie, I just passed my 5 week mark this week. It looks like you're doing terrific. I love reading about your NSV's! You've done better than me with the weight loss as I've let go of 19 pounds since surgery morning.

post of weight gain!
FighterGirl replied to jaciqltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jacq, I agree with everyone. Plus, right now weight loss should come second to healing. Stay away from that scale! Nutrition is the most important part. As you will learn with time, this surgery will make it harder for you to heal. -
3 Months today...........
laney replied to BIGBRAND0105's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weight loss!!! I will be one month post op this Sunday and I also had very little discomfort after surgery. I followed the Drs plan exactly as I was and had no issues. I now have been on soft foods for 5 days and doing ok. I do know when I eat to fast or had that one bite to much. My stomach lets me know. My start weight was 263. Surgery Day I was 249 today 229. My goal right now is to get under 200 pounds and then I will set up another goal. I just am taking it slow because I have not seen under 200 pounds in over 10 yrs. I wish you all the best in your journey congrats again on the weight loss!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm sorry you are hurting. Work with specialists to get control over your stress eating. If you had weight-loss surgery and continued to stress eat, you'd be in a world of hurt. Remember that you're not back to square one. You've just taken some serious strides to identifying and controlling your problem. Good luck and remember we're here to help! You can do this!

I read many years ago in a forum that during your six months of trying to lose weight, which is documented by your doctor, that you must lose a certain amount of weight, but that you can’t lose too much weight in order to be covered by Medicaid. I was wondering how much people have lost who were covered by Medicaid, or if anyone has any kind of idea of how much is too much to lose before getting the surgery?

Woohoo. Congrats on your weight loss keep up the great work.

You do know that generally you are supposed to wait at least 20 minutes after eating before you drink anything? Eating and drinking together can be a major cause of discomfort with the band. Your loss is good. Remember it's not a race and if it was slow and steady would probably win. Remember the hare and the tortoise? You are going to have to relearn satisfied vs full/stuffed. just because you think you can eat more doesn't necessarily mean you should. Eat the recommended portion. Wait 20 minutes. If you are still really hungry then have a bit more but chances are you will find that if you are eating the recommended portion of the correct foods you will be satisfied.

Now 218lbs. What can I expect?
2bslimkim replied to BeachWithMyBabies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you stick to a high Protein diet you should be good. Protein burns fat not muscle. I had my surgery Feb. 28 and started swimming my laps today with no problems. I'm probably older than you (48) but I always had an athletic build since I was young. I was always thin and athletic till I turned 40 and I developed hypothyroidism and watched my weight climb from 125 to 215. One thing you may want to be aware of.... as my dr. explained to me on Friday when I visited him. A 200 lb person is not going to lose weight as fast as a 300 or 400 lb person. I was concerned with why i hadn't dropped the average 20 lbs in 2 weeks post op i always read about. And he said to stop worrying. He explained a 300 person will lose 40 in the same time frame a 200 person loses 20... etc etc etc. I have consistant weight loss of about 1/2 lb per day. I did have the 3rd week stall but i've lost 4 lbs this week so far (monday is my 4 week post op) I also have the (2x c-section) hangover but it is getting smaller. Anyway.... i'm rambling. Keep up your protein and you should keep your muscle. -
Here's a question for y'all....
ThinknHealthy replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know. My dad plays bridge with a lady who says her brother was "one of the inventors" but I'm skeptical. I'm totally impressed with the total of your weight loss. My sister is considering the surgery and has a considerable amount to lose. Your success is the type of encouragement she needs. Keep up the good work. And, if you do send a letter to the inventor of the lap band, tell him that we all appreciate it greatly and that he has changed a lot of lives. I'm still waiting for that impact in my life. -

Oompaloompa replied to Oompaloompa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Maggie0210 !! Reassuring to hear. It's been better once I started soft foods but from food playing a big role to zero role in my life it's hard. It is like a grief almost of loss of enjoyment. I guess I will adjust and get used to it -
I am at a 30# loss since the day of surgery. How much did you lose your first month? SW: 270 CW: 240

4 weeks Post-op- does it get better
maggie0210 replied to Oompaloompa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Only 4 weeks is only the beginning. It is going to get so much better. You will need time to recover, you had major surgery. Once on the permanent stage, you can introduce new foods back in. Your strength will return soon. Try to get lots of sleep too, it helps to recover. At least it did for me. I was exhausted for 2 months. Don't focus on weight loss, it will happen. -

Yes I do. I cannot STAND Isopure. It makes me gag. Absolutely hate the stuff. I do better with the nectar mixes. LipstickLady, I will ask about the regular Gatorade. I did better today. about to finish my last bottle to make 64ozs. I did weigh again, and gained 6 lbs from all the liquid intake. I knew my weight loss couldn't have been right. It was sooooo much. Im not disappointed. Just glad that I am no longer loopy! lol. -

Anyone used Dr. John Nye in Pensacola, Fla.?
karenandrews posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I am hoping to have my sugery sched. for late Jan. or early Feb. I was wondering if anyone here has used Dr. John Nye in Pensacola Fla. I have not met him yet but was referred by a friend who's husband used him to remove a gall bladder. I researched his credentials and he seems to be a premier surgeon in the weight loss field. If anyone has used him, please tell me what you think. I am in desperate need of encouragement here! Thanks, Karen -
I agree that you could use a support group to deal with your stressful situation with your son. I can't imagine how hard that must be! We can be your support group if you decide on weight loss surgery, but it sounds like you might be helped by some counseling for your dependence on food. You really might find help if you seek out a professional's help or a support group for that also. I wish you the best and hope that things turn around for you soon!!

Hi Adanna, Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am getting my band tomorrow. I have only been on the "pre op diet 3 days", because I had to change doctors and the new doctor was able to do the surgery in December. Your doing so well! Weight loss does take time. Changing habits take time. I have lost this weight 3 or 4 times. The last time was doing weight lifting and dieting. 12 to 14 years ago I was 20 lbs from goal. I am doing the band for the "full" feeling. I don't get full. I don't eat fried or fast food very often if at all. But I do overeat and I have some injuries so the gym has been really hard 110 lbs overweight! I hope to hear more of your journey! Pamela

I am trying to get together any documents that I need for the approval process. The website for the surgeon's office said to collect documentation of other weight loss techniques you have tried. I printed my recent payments for weight watchers to prove I was a member this year. I think I have all the weights in my little weight watchers booklets that go back up to 5 years ago. I have quit and re-joined a few times, but this will prove that I tried it and also that I have been obses for at least that 5 years. I also am a member of the YMCA now and I printed all my p[ayments to them over the years to prove that I have tried the gym too. Do you have any other suggestions of documents or things I should get together that would help me in the approval process? I want to try to get together as much as I can upfront to speed things along. Thanks.

You sound so pumped up..that is great. Congrats on your weight loss thus far. Yes u have good reason to be proud of yourself. I too forget to chew my food to almost nothing. I still eat too fast. Well, I may have slowed down a little, but not enough. It is hard to break old habits. One thing that works for me when I am eating meats is to cut the food into small pieces before I start to eat. That helps with not taking too big of a bite.

I just got back from the hospital this afternoon. So far, I'm not experiencing a lot of reflux or nausea after eating. Of course, I'm only eating a couple of ounces of full liquids every once in awhile. My largest incision is very sore and tender. I'm also experiencing a pain in my chest. The doctors say the pain is not my heart but my being full. He explained that this pain will go away later but right now my esophogus is very swollen and every bit of intake SLOOOOWLY moves into my stomach. While reading the forums I'm remembering things such as, "no sugar added" foods and not to eat while drinking. Am I supposed to be following these rules right now? I can't eat yogurt and take in some Water? Or is this rule only for those who have advanced to real food? I'm really sick of feeling so awful. I am not sure I made the right decision. Their were others in the hospital who got to go home sooner after their weight loss surgeries. The pain is pretty bad. The meds they gave me wear off too quickly. Also, my daughters birthday party was today, my husband served hotdogs and hamburgers and of course cake was involved. I didn't eat a bite. But I sooo wanted it. I heard I can get really really sick if I don't stick with my doctors plan. Did anybody else crave food so soon after surgery? Thanks for any adivce you are willing to give. Cynthia

Pre Op Jitters-HELP
UpperWestSide replied to SexybeastCA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night I went out to dinner with friends. I had a Manhattan that I sipped while we waited for our dinner. This place had a great priced Prix Fix that included a bowl of Soup or salad, an appetizer, a main course and a dessert. I asked the waitress if I could just get the soup plus two small appetizers and no entree. They said sure. I ate most of the soup and 3/4 's of both apps. I even had one bite of the dessert. Now, was I over full, no. Is this a meal that will help with my weight loss? No and yes. No because it is not low calorie to have a positive effect on the actual weight loss. But yes, becasue it allows me to go out with friends, not feel like a crazy person, enjoy good and interesting foods and not feel like I am on a diet that never ends. I have lost 57 pounds in 6 months following this kind of lifestyle. Before I could never have stayed on a diet for 6 months. Now I feel like I can eat what I need to eat to keep myself from going crazy. And I am succeeding. Is it always perfect? No. But I feel like I could eat in this way for a very long time and continue to lose. I may not be one of those people who loses 100 pounds my first year. But I am happy to be where i am. -
Hi everybody, well I had my surgery in October, and I'm lingering around a 30 lbs loss. I can't get passed it. I just weighed myself this morning, and I think I have lost like one pound in the last two weeks. I am happy that I got the surgery, but I get a little discouraged when I don't see the scale change. Going into the surgery, I thought that afterwards, I was going to be like this lap band poster child, I was going to do everything right, but it has been quite the contrary. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I just joined, and I am looking forward to meeting and reading everyones stories.
