  3. Reading forums from pre-op and post-op patients, nervous, excited and a little scared. Only two of my family members know about my decision (my mother and my significant other of eight years Raymond) I can't tell anyone else because they are too judgemental and won't understand. I am nervous about my psych eval. when I was a teenager I was on antipsychotics and antidepressants for a few years mostly because of my weight (I was obese throughout middle and high school), I don't want that to be a reason why I cannot get the help that I need.

I was worried about my psych eval, too, as I have a history of depression and take medication for it. But really, it's not that they are looking for a reason to turn you down for surgery--it's just that they want to be sure you understand what you're getting into and that you have a support system to be successful after surgery. Be prepared that they may have you start therapy (if you're not already seeing a therapist) before they clear you for surgery. I had to see the bariatric center's psychologist twice, a month apart, and she talked to my therapist before giving the OK. Again, they just want to make sure you are as prepared as possible to get through the emotional rollercoaster of the process.

Thank you both, this means a lot and makes my decision towards getting this surgery a lot easier. This is honestly the first time I've really opened up about my weight, and I truly believe this is a new beginning :)

I concur totally with @hburns89. Psychologically speaking, WLS could bring to surface some things you might not be expecting. Having had the surgery already I have experienced some food related things that I wasn't expecting to experience. Nothing earthshaking or in need for therapy, but enough to cause me to ponder on them a bit. Just be as prepared as you can be. Also, if you need to talk with someone on a regular basis for a short-time, and you are employed full-time, you may want to check to see if your employer offers an Employee Assistance Program where you can talk with someone for no additional charge. Also, your WLS center should be able to assist with a referral or someone in their own group.

@Djmohr I take in about 90-100gms of protein a day.

  18. Well, I have done cardio 5 days in a row now. Down 2lbs this week and feeling pretty darn proud of myself. Trying to build that exercise habit and make it consistent everyday is not easy! Before I was exercising 3 times per week and I seemed to slow way down on weight loss.

  20. So, I haven't made a whole lot of progress in weight-loss lately, primarily due to being chained to my desk to finish my master's paper... however, I will be crossing another finish-line this week.

  21. I have not been here in quite a while, and I have been having some struggles with my weight lately, so I figured I could get some support here!

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond - holiday distractions!

I am so sorry all that has happened to you! You have had a lot going on and a lot of disappointments. I am struggling a bit too (especially after Easter weekend) and am going to go back to basics And write things down. I am going to go back to basics and try to get to my next goal. What was your goal weight? Mine is kind of a moving target lol. I now am aiming for 160 since I hit 170. I am sure I gained a couple over the weekend but am back on track today so far :-)

    2. NewBeginningsForMe2012

      NewBeginningsForMe2012

Barb, I was originally going for 156, but now I would be happy with 165 pounds I think. The lowest I got was 172 pounds, but it did not last but a day or two! The lowest I had got that actually lasted a bit was 175. However to do that I was all my feet all day and doing a lot of walking, bending, going up and down step ladders at that job I had in Family Dollar. That job was just to hard on me physically though at my age of almost 58 years old with the problems I have with my body from Celiac and Fibromyelgia. I have been getting out and walking a lot lately, and I walk between 3.5 to 4.20 miles at a time with our dogs, and I have improved on my time, and can do it in less time than I was doing, so that's good. My weight however seems to be STUCK at 192 pounds! I'm at least down 2 pounds though since was 194, but I just want to be back where I was like yesterday! LOL It was so much easier for the weight to fall off that first year after surgery! I wish it would still come off that easy! :( My Gastric doctor, and his staff all think I have done a great job, but I'm not happy with myself lately. I know I'm doing what I am suppose to do, but my stupid body will not do what it's supposed to do!

    3. barbb3

      barbb3

It sounds like you are doing all the right things! I have been going through the same struggles. I think our age has a lot to do with it unfortunately. It sounds like the walking and being active are helping - it may just take a bit longer. Good luck to you and try to enjoy where you are at!

  22. Over the winter I have found myself getting off track. Within the last two months I have gained almost 15 lbs back. So I am currently back at 150. Today I started the 5 day pouch test. Have kept to it all day , yay me! Thought maybe being back on this site would help me get back on track... I do have to say I miss the old site with the chat room :(

  23. Hold it! I just realized Ive lost 1/3 of my excess weight. And only 59 days post-pre-op-diet... Gotta take advantage of this honeymoon period!
