Shoulder Pain and Hunger
chicks3 replied to kris74745's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the same problem and it is driving me crazy...trying to figure out what triggers it and for the life of me I can't! I was banded July 29th and it seems to be getting worse, not better. Sometimes I think its from eating or drinking too fast, but then other times its real bad when there is nothing in my stomach and I wonder if its from being hungry.....(are these my new hunger pains?) If I walk it off I eventually burp and it seems to help, but it is never 100% gone. My dr. said to use a heating pad. It seems to help, but like I said, its never gone.....Any other tricks anyone has will be extremely helpful~ Thanks....Carol -
Vomiting 2 weeks out - stomach bug or something else?
Travelher replied to Hannah Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be a stomach bug. other causes of vomiting could be dumping (eating things with high sugar content...lay off the fruit and see if it makes a difference). My Protein shakes make me dump if I drink them too fast. I have a friend who said she didn't dump...but was having regular vomiting episodes. Guess what. That was how she dumped as they usually happened after eating a high carb item. I get sweaty and nauseous and dizzy and feel gross but don't vomit or have other gastro symptoms. other causes could be a stricture. I would call the doctor's office and see if they can help narrow it down. -
I've had a horrible time of it since I got the surgery on the 11th. They also repaired a hernia. It started with my doctor telling me to take some tylenol if I felt pain. I called a few hours after I got home asking if there was anything at all they could do, because I couldn't breathe it hurt so bad. Most movement left me trying not to cry because even that hurt. After some debate they finally called me back at noon the next day and gave me some painkillers. (Four days worth) The painkillers worked okay. I still couldn't drink anything thicker than the chocolate milk consistency Protein drink I have. I can't do yogurt at all, and my medications for narcolepsy and allergies are almost intolerable. I have to swallow them and wait 15 minutes for the chest pain and discomfort to go away. I had my follow up appointment on Tuesday and told him this and they prescribed me an anti-anxiety medication and told me it was all in my head! Today's followup had them order an upper gi for tomorrow morning because apparently my esophagus didn't get the memo that it was all in my mind that this was happening and I still couldn't swallow. And he made a face when I gave the sarcastic line about my esophagus, but seriously, the moment he told me my pain was only anxiety he lost my respect completely. I'm not in pain anymore unless I try to take a pill or have yogurt or anything like that or if like today I get cheer at someone and move my arms too fast and pull at the large scar a bit I registered here because I've been searching through this site for ideas and trying to figure out stuff that's going on since my doctor's been less than helpful over this past week, and a lot of the advice here has helped me. Stories of people who made it through help when I'm sitting here with chest pain from taking cut up Tylenol. My friends have also given interesting advice but not quite as helpful (Though I liked the one that told me to kick the doctor in the knees and tell him the pain was in his head.) Anyway that's how I found my way here. Hi!

Weight loss after sleeve?
BLERDgirl replied to Skywalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It varies from person to person. Some people are fast losers. Some are slow and steady losers. Are you getting all your fluids and exercising? Are you logging your foods? Eating processed foods? There are many variables. -
Jeni's Stage 2 Plastic Surgery!!
Shalee04 replied to Jeni 85's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ahhh the joys of being young and able to bounce back so fast. I to think your amazing in the fact that your able to be up and willing to go for round 2 already. My Oct surgery kicked my butt, I guess being 43 didn't help. I go in Tuesday to have my revision and am scared to death of just that. You are going to look like a supermodel when your all done, You have worked very hard for this, best of luck to you in your next step.!!! Can't wait to see the pix. -
@blondeej: I totally feel your pain. When I was in college and dating my husband I remember getting down to 165. As soon as I got a job and money, however, that weight slowly came creeping back... . I think I was around 185 when I got married; not bad for me but fast forward about 6 years and I'm currently about 265 (and that's AFTER the 12-15 pounds I lost recently). I also had problems with anxiety and depression; took antidepressants for years and was finally weaned off about 2 years ago. We have nothing to be ashamed of; it's done. We can't change what happened, but we can do our best to make sure it doesn't happen again. As far as the emotional eating is concerned, again I feel your pain. It is something I have struggled with for as long as I can remember, but the more research I do for the surgery the more determined I am to break the cycle. There have been days where the "need" to eat because I was upset was literally causing me physical pain...I know it's rough. Journaling has been helping a lot; something to distract you long enough to let the moment pass. And I know, it takes a LOT of willpower, but I've noticed the more conscious effort I make, the easier it's becoming. Keep in touch; I know we'll both be successful on our journeys, and stay focused and positive!

HI :) I am Tonya, 6 days post op...
AJ Barefield replied to ms_tonya_nea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there! I am 5 days post op and I am not sure if I am getting all my Water, and this Protein is difficult. But it is a process, so we take it day by day. The gas is bad, but we walk! I think I am drinking too fast, but I am working on it. Everyone keep your head up and your liquids down! XXOO! -
Oprah is once again gaining weight and it is apparent...I don't think she has had any type of surgery. As for Wynonna...she loves food and is NOT ready to change that aspect of her life. I love her anyway. She is truly beautiful. I can't stand her mother however. Star Jones had bypass..sure of it. She couldn't have lost as fast on the band.

I Can't Get In My Protein
emily_0192010 replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello How far out are you from surgery?? If you are more than a month out then I would definitely be trying harder to get Protein in thru some form of food. It sounds like you are still on liquids though. For me, before I could eat food I didn't get in much protein at all because I couldn't get it down. I was having trouble enough with Water or warm liquids as it was. Have you asked your doctor about anti-nausea medicine? Are you puking because your body is rejecting it (that would be an instant reaction to even a small amount) or because you could be drinking too much, too fast? You have to sip Protein shakes even slower than you would something thinner. My other advice is to try to drink some protein that you can do warm. Like warm milk (if you can handle milk at this point) or even a decaf latte (again, if you can handle the milk and you are allowed decaf coffee yet). You could also try soy milk. If you are still close to your surgery date than I wouldn't freak out too much and just focus on getting in your liquids. It gets a bit easier when you can start to add in food again. -
Hi, Im New Here!:))
VSGJean replied to WingsOfAButterfly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The only time I get sick is because I overeat and/or eat to fast. It's not pleasant, but not like if you have a virus.... -
Yep. I just got mine removed 5 days ago and so glad I did. I had so many problems with GERD and initially wanted to revise to sleeve, but based on my history of GERD, my surgeon says that the sleeve would cause me to continue to have the same reflux and heartburn due to the high pressure of the sleeve so He recommended bypass and after thorough research, and I am an RN with several friends who have had both sleeve and bypass..... and numerous conversations with my surgeon, I will be revising to gastric bypass in November. The removal of the port has been the most painful. I stayed the night in the hospital due to pain control because he also removed the scar tissue around the band as well. Adhesion removal can be painful. I was on IV Dilaudid every 4 hours, IV Toradol and Norco in the hospital. They switched me to percocets and I have been fine on those. Take a pillow with you to hold against your tummy to splint the incision so you can cough. Also get a start on taking some over the counter miralax to help with constipation because pain med can cause things to slow way down, on top of the anesthesia. I have asthma so I needed breathing treatments and I used my incentive spirometer every hour while awake to exercise my lungs which helped me greatly! They leave the incisions open to air and seal them with Dermabond, a type of glue. I am healing quite fast. Here is a pic of my incisions. He did a total of 3. The biggest was where the port was. Make sure your decision is yours and also listen to your surgeon and what will be best for you. The next few months will be the hardest, however I still feel restriction post op.

Dealing with Snack Foods
ifyourstomachoffendsyou commented on ifyourstomachoffendsyou's blog entry in Blog 69691
Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Dealing with Snack Foods Snack Foods. The perfect food for ADHD people. Grab and go. Don't have to cook, put together ingredients, shop for those ingredients, remember which ingredients to shop for. They're full of all the taste and flavor (mostly artificial) ADHD people crave. They provide the stimulation we seek when the TV shows don't cut it all by themselves (most don't). They also provide the majority of the salt, sugar, and fat that shoot up our blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Just thought of something slightly amusing--or maybe alarming. My name starts with ch and so do many of my favorite snacks: cheetos, chocolate, chips (taco, potato, pita). It is so much easier for me not to eat them now that they're not in my house and my husband's not eating them in front of me. He might have a secret stash hidden somewhere but I never see it and he never eats it in front of me. America's food industry, like the tobacco and alcohol industries, has a lot to answer for. All of them know they're dealing with addictive substances and do their best to make them even more addictive with chemically designed addictive additives in addition to those old standbyes--salt, carbs and fat. Oh, and let's not forget chocolate and caffeine being increased and put in all kinds of new products. Many are designed to appeal to children and teenagers. Did you know a lot of teenagers are now having lapbands? The obesity epidemic is out of control among our young people. I see the food parents put in their kids lunches or that kids pack for themselves. Some start hauling snacks out of their lunch bags and backpacks as soon as they arrive at school. Those with healthy snacks trade with those with all the unhealthy snacks. Schools are eliminating snacks from their cafeterias and vending machines, but the kids just carry them with them. I don't have an answer for this dilemma. I am nutritionally quite well-educated. Didn't stop me from eating snacks. The best advice I get on the topic is don't expose yourself to the snacks. Keep them out of the house. Ask people not to eat them in front of you. In situations where exposure is unavoidable, it might be better to eat just a little bit of those things that most appeal to you than to ruin your good time spending all your effort not eating those things. Fortunately, I've got the lapband to let me know when I've had enough. Especially if I start with higher protein items the band will help me limit the snacks. The key will be to get right back on the food protocol once the party's over. Right now, I don't have a lot of restriction and have slowed way down on weight loss. I have a family reunion this weekend. All my siblings and some nieces and nephews and their children (along with my own children and grandchildren) will be together. Food will be a big part of the reunion. So, for three days before the reunion I'm eating protein almost exclusively, a protein shake for breakfast, meat for lunch, and meat and a veggie for supper, with milk in my iced latte in-between meals. I noticed yesteday already that when I just eat meat without a lot of moistening agents, I can still feel some restriction in my band. I already lost 2 lbs. That puts me at 30 lbs total weight loss. When the weekend is over, I'll probably go back on high protein until I get my first fill on August 11. I'll probably be back on a liquid protein diet for a few days after that, so my stomach can heal. That should jumpstart the weight loss again. I hope the Dr. puts in enough fill to give me restriction. Otherwise I'll go back 2 or 3 weeks after to get another one. I have few clothes that fit me. I'm going through my closets trying to decide what's worth taking in, which of my "skinny" fat clothes fit me now, and what to give to Goodwill. I've started going to thrift stores, since I will not be at this weight for very long and don't want to spend money on clothes. I can't buy ahead because I don't know how fast the weight will come off. But these are good problems to have. I've dropped one cholesterol med and one blood pressure med. I'm seeing if I can do without my stomach med since I ran out of it and won't be seeing my regular doc for 2 more weeks. I get to see my relatives this weekend and I'm not going to worry about food! God is good all the time. All the time God is good. -
Making a Difference-Why I Got Banded.
ifyourstomachoffendsyou commented on ifyourstomachoffendsyou's blog entry in Blog 69691
Tuesday, September 1, 2009 Making a Difference-Why I Got Banded. I love having restriction. After a few bites, which I tend to go just a little too fast with because I'm hungry, I feel constriction with some pain. My hint to slow down and eat tiny, well-chewed bites. So I eat a little, wait for a burp, eat a little, wait for a burp. Eventually I get the hiccups, and I wait for them to pass. Now the food is cold. I've begun to lose my taste for it. It's been over 20 minutes since I started to eat so my brain is starting to register fullness. I take another small bite just to see if I want anymore. I have totally lost interest. I've lost a few more lbs., 38. This morning I hit onederland (when you're under 200 and are in the one hundreds you are in onederland.) I'll officially announce it tomorrow if the scale tells me this was not an aberration. I am down to 1 blood pressure med, 1 cholesterol med, and my anti-inflammatory. I've been climbing all kinds of steps at the school throughout the day without even thinking about it. Not winded at all. So many advantages to not being able to eat. School is going well. I'm slowly increasing the number of children I see. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my assistant for two days a week. Let me tell you the story of one of my former students. Graduated last spring. Came from a difficult home situation. Raised by a foster mother in her 70's who slowly went blind and handicapped from diabetes. Number of other foster kids in family. Foster mom died when he was in 7th grade. One of her relatives took him in, thank God. Got a request from him to be my friend on facebook. Went to his profile page. Most of his friends so far are former RCS teachers and classmates. We were one of the most stable parts of his life for most of his young life. That's why I see so many kids at RCS. Many of the chidren I see year after year after year. I build a relationship with them. They don't care about my weight, they just care that I'm there. Losing the weight makes me more available for them. Please pray that I'll be able to keep working with these kids. Roseland Christian is where my heart is, where my passion lies. Today we had an unplanned fire drill. I was outside with 2 of my students when the fourth grade class came out. I see a majority of the children from that class. They mobbed me. Almost knocked me over as they all tried to hug me at once. I love my job. -
Ummm...I'm guessing you didn't read my post-op blogs LOL. I think each surgery effects us differently; I've been through other major surgeries that didn't effect me as much, and there are plenty of people here who were up and around in a day or two. It does get better fast though, doesn't it...it's all worth it!!! Glad you're feeling better!

I'm back from my long weekend with DS2. We had a great time with my family. We left early on Friday and arrived in Columbus for an early lunch (white-knuckled trip with pouring rain until we were almost there). I was supposed to be on mushies the whole day and then start solids Saturday (post-fill), so I chose some cottage cheese for lunch. I brought flowers from my garden and between those and Mom's we made about 8 arrangements and took them over to my Middle Sister's to start prep for the party. We worked until dinnertime and I was able to get down a little thin crust pizza and mixed fruit salad back at Mom's. Saturday found Mom and I (and two of her Herb Society friends) on a two hour trip down to a lavender farm for a festival (sorry, I forgot my camera but found these pics of the farm online-no, I don't know that cute little boy). It smelled like heaven as we pulled into the lavender field to park. She'd signed us up for two classes so we went off to the 'Mediterranean Cooking with Herbs' class. As I've said before, I'm not the chef in our family, but I was excited for this class. I have a nice herb garden (most cooks would kill for…my neighbors do come to take snippings occasionally at my urgings) and I'd like to learn to use more of them. I always dry some herbs each year (mainly for show in my kitchen and basement rack), but the only things I really use fresh are the basil to mainly make pesto or my mozzarella/tomato Italian flag salad, the tarragon for a chicken bake dish DH makes, and occasionally some chives, dill, or oregano for an occasional recipe. The teacher is the regional cooking expert for Macy's department stores (I think she works a lot with brides, etc.) and she was very knowledgeable. I'm inspired to try to incorporate the fresh herbs more now while they're in season. We had a meal of bread, salad, chicken, pancetta, and cookies all incorporating the herbs at the end of the demo. I almost had a stuck moment as I was carefully eating the herb salad (I thought I chewed very carefully). I was trapped at an inside table with people all around or I would have gotten up as I could feel the sliming about to start. I was panicking and I'm sure the folks across from me saw my eyes watering…but then it passed in a few minutes. I quickly gave Mom the rest of my salad saying I'd taken too much…whew…that was a close one! The Lavender Festival was wonderful, but small (about 20 vendors and the classes), so then we found ourselves with about 3 hours to kill before our next class. It was almost 90 degrees out so after the 'cut your own lavender' trip to the field and shopping the vendors (I bought; 5 plants, a pair of beaded earrings for DD's birthday in August, and 20 wooden garden markers for DS2's vegetable garden that he can decorate) we looked for a shady spot and bought some lavender ice cream from the Mennonites who had an ice cream and baked goods booth (they had a small John Deere engine attached to the ice cream maker…cool to watch). I asked for only one scoop…OMG that ice cream was wonderful…fresh cream from the cow…a scoopful of heaven! Our last class was making a framed picture from pressed flowers and Mom is going to be doing this at one of their Festival's at the herb garden she volunteers with weekly, so she was very excited. We were done in record time (the heat made us work fast) and we were back in the car for our trip home. Then off to Middle-Sister's for my nephew's HS graduation party (he's in a college program now to become a police officer). It went perfectly; no rain and lots of fun. We collapsed after pitching or bagging up the extra food around midnight. Sunday we stayed until late morning so I could spend some more time with Dad for Father's Day. I gave him a nice box of smoked salmon, which he loved. Unusual gift, I know. DH and I (and the kids) twice visited DH's sister and her family when they lived in Alaska for 2 years. We took my only brother on the second trip. He loved it so much that he and DH arranged a fishing trip there (in a motor home for a week traveling the area) a few years later and they took my Dad. He loved getting the salmon they caught smoked and so the salmon I bought him was labeled as being from one of the rivers in Alaska that they fished…he noticed right away. We got in the car for our 3 ½ hour ride home and DS2 said 'It was a great weekend!' and high-fived me as he said 'It was a nice trip with just you and I!' I forget that the baby of the family, even at 13 yrs. old can still need some quality one on one time. We played Mad Libs most of the way home and stopped at McDonalds for lunch (I ate ½ a grilled chicken club sandwich…went down fine). Had a nice evening of playing Frisbee in the backyard and grilling out for Father's Day back home with the family (Happy belated Father's Day all you Dad's). Tomorrow is the Jimmy Buffet concert with 2 neighbor couples (can't wait) and Thursday morning we leave for PennState with DS1 for our orientation (staying at the old colonial Nittany Lion Inn on campus overnight-run by the PennState hospitality program, so it should be fun). DH took off the rest of the week for all this, but I'll try to post some updates when we have some down time. I'm off to the Drs. (routine) with the boys and then on to DS2's guitar lesson (he AMAZES me with his talent...no idea where it comes from, but it's great for each kid to find something they're good at). Today is my two-month bandiversary and I'm down 19 pounds since surgery (most of that, just post-op though). I'm just hoping to keep losing or at least not gain during this 6 week wait for the next fill. Sorry I went on and on as usual, just catching up. Have a great week all!!! I'll post some pics I just took of my garden later.

KimmieJean...you CAN do this!! I was banded the week before Christmas (a little over 6 months ago) and have lost 53 pounds so far! My doctor said that banders lose much more slowly than bypass patients and not to beat myself up. (I wanted to lose MORE quickly!) He also said that lap-band patients can typically lose up to 40% of their excess weight at the end of a full year post-op and that I had lost MORE than that in less than 6 months!!! So that made me feel better. Remember - the first 3-6 weeks are primarily for HEALING...do NOT expect miraculous weightloss during that time...so if weightloss does happen - you will be pleasantly surprised. We all have good days and bad days...the day I tried to eat steak was a BAD day for me - and yes...I cut it into microscopic pieces and chewed the heck out of it...it just didn't want to go through...so ...well, let's just say that it did't stay there very long! I have found out what I now can and can't eat basically by trial and error...and I've certainly made my share of errors!! One MAJOR adjustment I've had to (STILL) re-learn and remind myself about is to eat SLOWLY....and to CHEW MORE...as a nurse, I've always had to eat really fast and run back to the unit...so at 57 years old, this is a NEW lifestyle for me....so is chewing 25 - 30 times with EVERY bite! I never had time for that before...now if I don't make the time - I pay the price! I DESERVE THIS!!! SO DO YOU! Take the time to listen to your doctor/dietician/nurse practitioner, and don't get discouraged easily. Whatever happens will pass...eventually...the plateaus, the uncomfortable feeling if you've eaten too quickly, not being regular, etc. Oh - be sure to monitor how many days you go after surgery without a BM...that was a HUGE problem for me my first week post-op. I kept taking the liquid pain meds to AVOID having pain - I really didn't have all that much pain - truly...but didn't want to chance it. Long story short---I went 6 DAYS without a BM....and was in agony trying to finally go. I will spare you the gruesome details...but will say that you will need to pay attention to that area and don't wait like I did before you try to intervene...like stool softeners, Milk of Magnesia, etc. Something I found that worked for me was something called PEDIALAX...get the STRIPS..not the liquid. (The liquid requires you to drink the 30cc and then follow it with 8 ounces of water...at that stage I couldn't dring that much!!!) Because it's the pediatric formula it is gentler and so I took two strips - they dissolve on your tongue - and by 11 the next AM, I was a new woman!! Feel free to ask me or any of us veterans anything ...my personal email address is: gailmdavis@marykay.com GOOD LUCK!!

I have had my lap band for 3 1/2 years now. I am very happy with my weight loss of 120 lbs and have maintained it. I started having trouble keeping food down about a month ago. I don't know if I am still eating too fast of too much. It is a hard habit to break. My doctor loosened my band, but I am still having trouble. I have this annoy feeling that there is something in my throat and discomfort. It hurts but not real bad pain. Is this the symptom of a slipped band? harleymin13

Pain is subsiding a little more each day. Walking definitely helps. Feeling up to taking a shower today. From surgery on Monday to today I've lost 5 pounds. Promised myself I wouldn't worry about how fast or slow the weight comes off as long as it comes off. So I'll keep strolling along. Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Maddie, A three week stall is a long time. I know you're frustrated! You're just now six weeks out, so you are starting on 'everything'. Carbs can bring you to a halt fast depending on what you are eating. To kick start a plateau, I'd always up my Protein and Water, do a little exercise and it worked like a charm every time. Protein for me was normally 60 - 65 and I'd go to 70 - 80. My calories when I was where you are were between 500 and 650 per day...and I did good to get that much in. During my losing period I averaged 675 per day. I had great restriction, I still do. I call cottage cheese, the Breakfast of champions, I love it. 1% of course. Eggs; steamed shrimp (i keep a bag on hand for lunch), tuna, I measure 2 TB of lite mayo for a can; whatever meat you want at night; stay away from bread, rice, Pasta, all sweets, nothing until you reach goal; chips; if it's in a bag or a box....chances are, you shouldn't have it!!! The exception, Special K Crackers, a few with tuna rather than bread are ok - recommended by my dietitian. They even have a little Fiber. I have two glasses of skim milk per day. I get liquid and 16 grams of protein, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak!! Greek yogurt, the plain, has TONS of protein in it, add Stivia or some other artificial sweetener to it, or sugar free jelly....a little fruit, be creative, just nothing you shouldn't. Great source of protein. I hope these suggestions help!!! Three weeks is a long time, you can overcome this, I promise you!!! Good luck, this tool works, just work with it!!! Also, I still weight and measure EVERYTHING....and keep an on line food log, it's good to know exactly how much you are eating and to keep track of your protein and calories!!! Just a suggestion!!

I am having my first fill this Thursday. I have a few questions . . . 1. Are there any dietary restrictions immediately before getting a fill? For example, my appointment is in the afternoon, should I fast all day or is it ok to eat breakfast and / or lunch? 2. After the fill, do you go back on liquids or mushies for a few days? 3. How long after the fill (minutes, hours, days) are you able to tell how much restriction you got from the fill. Thanks for all the help! As a newly banded person, this website give me much needed encouragement.

After surgery.. how long are you down?
laprelief replied to Arkgl01's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I must say from experience that it was at least a two week recovery and I still have soreness almost 4 weeks later. I feel that it is so important to be realistic and take into consideration that everyone has a different healing rate. After reading about everyone's fast recovery, I literally sat and cried everday thinking that something was terribly wrong with me. I could walk around the next day, but once I arrived home it was impossible to hardly stand up or lie down...pain pain pain! It's getting better, but don't expect to be superman just in case! -
Day 3 is here and i finally ate some soup today and i feel pretty good, still sore but the gas pains in my shoulder are pretty much completely gone which is a relief. I am drinking lots of fluids trying to stay hydrated but it is difficult because i feel so full so fast its crazy!! Hope everyone else is doing well today and good luck to those people whose surgery's are approaching!!

Question for those who lost weight fast.
j_holm07 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello!! I know my post title may make some green with envy, but it has been quite a shock for me as well. I am 3.5 months post surgery, and I am down 53 pounds just since surgery!! Since January this year I have lost 87.5 pounds...crazy I know. But for those who have lost it fast as I have (mine is partially due to the fact I am only 20 years old, and my metabolism finally decided it wanted to work correctly), do you ever feel you could have done it without the band? I feel my band is the best decision I have ever made in my life, hands down...but I wonder sometimes. I know that once the weight is off, it will help KEEP it off, which is a HUGE hurdle for many just retro-dieting without any surgical aide. So yeah, just kinda wondering how anyone else feels about it, all information and opinions are welcome from ANYONE! Thank you guys! Hi, I'm Brenda and I have Premera BC/BS in AK. I was denied by Blue Cross 5 or so years ago to have this surgery done. I gave up. I researched and spoke with a great group up here about surgeries in other countries. But, never followed up. I see people who are 1/4 or 1/2 their original size when I met them 5 years ago!! Now fast forward to August 2006, I'm ready to have this surgery done with the blessing from my Orthopedic Surgeon whose the best in our state. I'm pending a fusion and scared to death to have it done. I'm 40 years old, and have a lifetime of back problems if they don't want to pay for it, instead they may have to pay for my back -- that is how I see it. Say positive prayers for me on my new weightloss journey.

My son does have restriction. He can't eat bread or rice and yaks (family word for throws up) when he eats too fast or too much. He was banded Aug 18, 2005. His goal is to lose 100 pounds before getting a fill. He has the large VG band. He was 413 pounds at surgery (he is 6ft 5in). He has gone from waist of 50 to 40. He is doing great.
