    FEBRUARY 2020 Surgery dates🌹❤️

Just found out today that my surgery is scheduled for 2/24! This will be a revision from Sleeve to Bypass.

    Possible Revision

Yeah I have never experienced anything like the gerd that I had before revision. I would have acidic fluid streaming from my nose and mouth. Was so bad a few times that I lost my voice. I guess surgeons are all different about ppis. Mine is against them completely. i was so nervous about the ppis that I was supposed to take them for 3 weeks after revision. I didn’t experience any gerd symptoms so I just didn’t take them. I had already been on them for more than 1 year after my sleeve surgery.

    Possible Revision

Here is an interesting article I read that helped me to feel better about revising https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-12-03-dangerous-drugs-linked-to-fatal-diseases-and-cancer-heartburn-meds-death.html

    Possible Revision

I totally understand! That is exactly how I felt. I came very close to backing out of the revision and taking my chances with the ppis. plus at the time of my initial surgery I almost switched to rny right up until surgery. My thoughts were that I did not want to have the surgery twice. Don’t fear the bypass though. Just be sure to take vitamins every single day. Keep up with having your bloodwork done and you should do just fine.

    VSG to Revision

We've successfully helped several GHI members get revisions so please be optimistic - BTW, whether or not you regain weight is IRRELEVANT since changing eating patterns due to severe GERD is not only common, but often a necessary way people can tolerate ANYTHING! Let us know if you're submission is denied before anyone at the doc's office does something that might hurt your chances of being approved and GOOD LUCK! GERD really sucks so hopefully you get approved without a problem.

    Possible Revision

Thanks for sharing. I did it six years ago. I know this may sound dramatic but it almost feels like I'm being punished to have to go through a revision when I've done so well. I don't want to start over...not that I necessarily have a choice. But if I had known at the time how common revision surgery was because of reflux I don't think I would've had surgery at all.

    Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen

Medicare will pay for it as long as you meet the criteria. I think it was over 35 BMI with a comorbidity. There was a three month "supervised" diet (during which you don't have to lose weight), and documentation of past failures with diet alone. You must be obese for 5 years, and have a psych evaluation. I was nervous because I had been told by another office that Medicare wouldn't pay for revision surgery (failed lap band) which was odd because Medicare hadn't paid for the first one. But they came through and my bill was paid.

    Possible Revision

I revised from sleeve to rny almost 9 weeks ago because of gerd. I am just now starting to have pretty bad hair loss so it does happen with each surgery. I am not due to have vitamin levels checked until next month. I keep up with taking vitamins and if there are any deficiencies, I will correct them. I think that a person just has to stay on top of being checked so that nothing gets too far out of control. I no longer have gerd and my hernia was repaired. So far the surgery has been well worth it.

    Finally Approved After 3 Years

GERD is like the main side effect of the sleeve and is always usually resolved by doing a revision. Wow, what lame-o's.

    Finally Approved After 3 Years

Wow! Way to persevere! Good luck with your revision.

    No Nsaids..

I have had a right knee replacement and the left might eventually be replaced. I had to stop taking NSAIDS right after my knee replacement because they were giving me duodenal ulcers. I have had a revision from a lap band to a RNY, and have only lost 34 pounds, and can already tell a MAJOR difference in both of my knees. If you have severe enough osteoarthritis, you may still need a knee replacement. But you will likely buy yourself several years before you might need one by losing weight. Good luck!
  12. So finally after 3 years of fighting with my past insurance I am approved! I used to have BCBS IL and switched to IL Health Alliance through my employer. They approved me within a few hours! BCBS IL denied me three times and after peer to peer they still didn't approve because they said GERD was not enough to do a revision. Surgery is in three weeks!

    Possible Revision

I'm in the same situation as you are. I'm having a revision February 11th.
  16. I'm new to the forum. I had my sleeve done six years ago and I loved it...that is until 4 months ago when medication was no longer keeping my reflux in check. I've lost 150lbs and have maintained that loss. I had a hiatal hernia repaired last month and I still have gerd symptoms and I'm terrified of having a revision. Has anyone had a revision completed? If so which one? Did you have complications? Did you have hair loss again? Vitamin deficiencies? Any complications at all?
  17. I had a sleeve done in 2015, did well, lost 92 lbs, gained back about 25 lbs now, during the past year as I cannot get my heartburn/Gerd under control. I was given Protonix again, was on it after surgery, but now a stronger dose... I went to my surgeon, actually his colleague in the same office and she advised to up the dosage of the Protonix and get an end and some studies done. I did that -- they did some Xrays, a CT scan, endo and colonoscopy and I was told stay on the meds at this rate for at least 3 months. She said any changes or its worse, come in and see her before the 3m time and since she was ready to give birth any mind, said to see her colleague. I did just that - she's out on maternity leave and I saw another dr. in her office and he suggested upping the meds again, to 2x per day and another over the counter at night time so avoid the GERD issues. I can't keep anything down, you'd think I would be thin LOLLL it's the opposite, I'm maintaining, but I have GERD 24/7. Its horrible, even water does it. So long story short - he said he would recommend the revision, which she did too - as well as fix an umbilical hernia I have that bothers me. The surgical coordinator called, temporary scheduled for March 18 for a revision, said he will get pre auth from GHI, my insurance and if it's weight gain, don't get my hopes up of it being approved.. he's always been a non friendly guy, even years ago, it's like I'm bothering him. He must deal with horrendous people all day to act the way he does, but besides that.... He said don't get my hopes up and he'll pencil me in for March 18. He said I didn't come back to the office for years, erhmm, why should I - I was feeling fine... Gastro doc told me my GERD could be due to the sleeve and to go back to my surgeon, which I did - has nothing to do with weight gain - I'm not dealing with GERD for the rest of my life.... It's really really bad.. Anyway, GHI said they cover the procedure, just needs pre auth and it could take 7-10 days to get back... so I'll keep my fingers crossed and not listen to the surgical coordinator guy ... maybe he needs a drink LOL Anyone have any luck with GHI/Emblem Health for the revision - my husband carries City Of NY coverage of GHI. Good luck all
  18. I would think yes. Revisions don't usually result in lightening fast results. But additionally, you also are dealing with the inflammation from the surgery, plus the fluids you received via IV. So it will take time. Additionally, some people don't really start losing until they are able to eat normal food rather than protein drinks. Some people find protein drinks actually slow their losses. I was one of those people, so I do have a bias. Protein drinks were very insulinogenic for me. Congrats on your surgery!
  19. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and am not losing I lost 4 pounds and have stayed the same for a week is this normal?!?!

    sleeve to rny

Would you qualify for a revision at this weight or does your BMI have to be higher? Would this be self-pay?

    Vsg to mgb?!

I agree with @catwoman7 Without the head work and getting to the bottom of why you do what you do.... No WLS is going to help in the long run. and defiantly going to Mex won't help as their only concern is getting the money. I was headed down there before i found my dr. here. They never asked if i had any type of counseling before. The only concern was booking me in and getting the money. I had counseling with the band and sleeve.... A lot of my eating came from wanting to control something.... My ex-husband controlled everything and food was the only thing i had. Plus I had been sexually assaulted at a teen and didn't really realize how much it affected me. But people eat for different reasons... The MGB was what i was going to Mex for. Then i found a dr here willing to do the "revision" 10 min from my work. He doesn't do the MGB so the sleeve it was.... 8/8/19. Mex MGB was like 8800 i think.... the sleeve here cash pay was 14k. But i factored in the time off of work, travel and the peace of mind that my dr was only 10 min from work and 20 min from my house...

    sleeve to rny

I agree with everyone else - go back to basics. Protein first, then non-starchy vegetables. Weigh/measure and track your food. It's too early to consider plastics (plus they don't really do plastics for weight loss, that I'm aware of - they lipo sometimes for small, stubborn fat deposits and/or to even things out, but to make people lose weight - no, not really...). And normally revisions are done for medical reasons. I'd give it another shot - you could probably drop more weight if you really buckled down.

    sleeve to rny

I wouldn't consider plastics until you've been at or close to goal weight for 6 months to a year. It doesn't seem like you've given it enough time yet to even consider a revision. I would get back to the basics and on track with your eating and try to lose more before I'd make any decisions. Good luck whatever you decide.

    Vsg to mgb?!

I had the sleeve and then due to acid reflux and my sleeve stretching I got the mgb. Unfortunately for me the reflux got worse after the mgb so now I'm getting a full bypass on Feb 3. What I can tell you was different for me was with the sleeve I had no pain and lots of energy. With the mgb I was really sore for at least a week and I was exhausted for at least 2 maybe 3 weeks. It also took longer for me to go from one phase to the other like clear liquids to full liguids, etc. I had to work harder to get my water in also, really small sips. I also found out about dumping which I didn't have with the sleeve. Hardly any sugar and I was laying down, sick to my stomac, heart racing, head spinning and then exhausted like an adrenaline dump. You learn quickly to avoid sugar! It gets better over time but here I go again with the revision.

    sleeve to rny

Why are you considering rny or plastics? To lose more weight? Have you tried tweaking your diet? You may be able to lose more weight without revising your surgery I personally would not consider plastics unless I was happy with my weight and stable for awhile. Give us more info and we will try to help you with your questions. Are you still sticking to your eating plan?
