The unflavoured protein powder works well in yogurt or if you’re gonna add it to soup mix it up in some skim milk before you add it or it will definitely clump up

Anyone get their sleeve February 2019

In the beginning it is difficult. Take heart, it does get easier. My nutritionist suggested getting an unflavored protein powder to enhance any beverages and any foods consumed. I purchased Isopure zero carb unflavored whey protein. It has 25 grams of protein per scoop which I mix with 20 ounces of crystal lite. It's really very tolerable. It can also be sprinkled on yogurt and cottage cheese, eggs to elevate protein. I measure out a scoop for the day and use it up throughout the day.

Thanks Dub and Britt. Day before yesterday I had the idea of making Tiziki. I had all of the ingredients except for mint (I make a Persian version that requires mint). 2% Fage yogurt, cucumber with no skin, lemon juice, salt, pepper. I put everything in the vita mix blender and blended the heck out of it. It was freaking delicious! 10 seconds after this I was doubled over in pain. So I’ve been scared any vegetables ever since. I may get brave and try a little sip of this. Hopefully things go smoothly! Britt is this the tomato basil soup you tried?

    Stall since August 2018

Are you still logging everything? I find I lose more if I log. Try logging what your currently maintaining at. So you know what your current maintenance calories are and then subtract 500 calories from that. Eat at that reduced calorie rate and you should start losing again. I eat low calorie foods throughout the day. Making sure I always get at least 60 grams of protein in. Things like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and lean chicken are good low calorie options that also high in protein. I'm a slow loser and never lost my appetite so it's not always easy. But I keep plugging away at it and slowly but surely I'm getting there.
  8. Congratulations @FluffyChix! What an amazing achievement! For the group: I’m just 1 month out but try to do at least a 12:12 IF. I just can’t seem to get all my proteins in without that last snack of yogurt. I’m wondering if I worked in a snack or two during the day would be better and then nothing after dinner. I’ll mention it to my Dr today but thought I’d ask you pros as well.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

NuMe2 you are so rigtht about varying calories to break stalls! I too was at a stall for many weeks but when I eat a little more and bring my calorie count up I seem to lose weight! For instance - yesterday my daughter brought home for pizza for dinner and even though I know it's a big "no, no" per carbs, sodium processing and such I went ahead and indulged in a slice and it upped my daily calorie count to 1120. I woke up this morning with a loss! I always make sure I get the minimum of 64 oz especially since I had a Shoulder Surgery this month on Feb 12th and am on pain pills as I got to make sure I don't bind up because well many of you know that although Milk of Magnesium does a great job of breaking the dam open withing a matter of hours it is still very messy. So I noticed that if I dip my calories up once in awhile it makes a difference. I vary between 800 to 1200 daily. I always, always make sure I get my minimum protein of 70 grams and am taking all of my vitamin and supplements daily. I use Bariatric Advantage HP meal replacement , Premier protein shakes and sometimes Genepro protein powder in yogurt to meet these needs. I worry about getting all the supplements and especially since having 2 surgeries in 3 months and worried about hair loss. I have also noticed that my skin is super super dry but and I am still trying to figure our that battle! If I don't feel like cooking and want something fast have been buying the Smartmade frozen dinners from Walmart such as turkey, and roasted vegetables as this is low carb and high protein, RealGood also makes a chicken crusted pizza that is also low carb high protein. I also like the Lean Cuisine herb roasted chicken but this one only has 16 protein where the others are higher carb. So these types of things help me out a bunch and in a pinch. I also still eat a lot of beans, LOL! (need that fiber). Some days I can eat more then others and other days I just can't put much in and it is so weird how it all works like that. Just this morning upon waking it was a little more difficult swallowing water then most. I think this surgery just put's you on a see-saw like that and after reading so many post in this forum I am comforted by the fact that it is not unusual and so I do not stress it anymore. I have yet to throw anything up but have eaten too fast, too much and had the sweats, chest pains and miserable feeling of needing to. Like many some days I question whether my stomach was really resized and then others I definitely know there is a restriction. I still fight head hunger and bad habits but have made great improvement here. I have been to a restaurant and ordered a full meal and then find that I barely make a dent in it too the point the waitress asked me if there was something wrong with my food, LOL and felt like "wow that was a waste of money - what am I doing!" I am so looking forward to the day of eating Salads and raw vegetables which for me is not until 6 months post op per doctors orders! So because of 2nd surgery and having my arm in a sling it has slowed me way down in exercising. I am doing my best to try and walk 30 minutes daily but when I have a bunch of doctor appointments in a day and everything takes me forever to do it falls by the wayside. I like most worry about loose skin and wish I could start some weight training but all of that is on hold for now. Once my energy levels get back up I need to figure out how to work strength training in. I just know that it will make all the world of difference. I am so grateful for this forum and you guys sharing your stories and struggles as this has helped me so much! Well guys that is my journey thus far from having a hiatal hernia repair and gastric sleeve surgery December 26, 2018. Shoulder surgery February 12, 2019 to repair a rotator cuff, SLAP and Labral tear.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Glad it went well and startng to sample shakes is a good idea. I haven't tried any of the protein shakes yet, but my next trip to BJ'S I will pick some up. I only like chocolate flavors. In the meantime I've given up sweets, coffee and snacks and I eat a lot of yogurts.
  11. Hello everyone, my name is Deirdre and I had the sleeve October 2017. The first 9 months, I lost 80 lbs. Then I completely fell off the wagon: drinking with meals, drinking diet soda, and eating sugar. Tons and tons of sugar. I feel zero restriction with cake, cookies, brownies, and chocolate candy bars. I have been bingeing on these the last 6 months. I have regained 40 lbs. I am too embarrassed to go back to my surgeon or my endocrinologist (I am diabetic). Today I decided to get back on track. No more sweets or diet soda. I have had a protein shake and a yogurt so far today, along with tons of water and some Crystal Light. Dinner is going to be a (homemade) cheeseburger, no bun. I guess I'm just hoping to find someone out there like me who fell completely off the wagon and was able to get back on and be successful. I still have 100 lbs to lose. I have also started seeing a therapist, not for food issues specifically, but for general depression and anxiety. Does anyone have any books they recommend? I need something to keep me away from the junk. Something to tell myself or distract myself with so I don't cave. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Protein goals and Fruit

I eat fruit most days. Sometimes it’s a small amount of peaches with my morning oats. Or some berries with yogurt or 1/2 cup of mango . It’s yummy, healthy and also helps to satisfy sweet cravings

Don’t feel bad. The single most Important thing you can do is drink drink drink. Put water before protein or even vitamins right now if you have to. Water is THE MOST IMPORTANT. I was only able to out down about 15gm protein per day for the first 7-10 days. It gets better and the feeling of “going to explode” subsides. I’m now 6 days into my purée food phase and can only put down 45 grams protein daily. I know it is “supposed” to be higher, but I drink at least 80 ounces of water daily and my new stomach just can’t hold more than 1/4 cup of food at a time. It’s okay though. I know that just a few weeks hitting under the mark in protein isn’t going to hurt me and I focus daily on eating protein only. Lol, my meals are things like 1/3 pouch tuna, mixed with a tablespoon Greek yogurt and topped with a couple spoonfuls of cottage cheese. Not even close to 20gm protein, but I have to choose priorities. Tonite I’m gonna have goat cheese with 1 ounce chopped lean pork loin. There just isn’t room for veggies right now so I’m depending on my vitamins to carry the load until I can eat 80 gm protein daily without it being an almighty struggle.

I’m 6-mos out and can’t eat a whole scrambled egg. At 5:45A I’ll drink a cup of coffee followed by 16oz water over next 2 1/2 hours. Around 8 to 8:30 I’ll drink my protein shake, then slip out for a 1 or 2 mile walk. When I get back around 9, I’ll eat half a Greek yogurt followed by more water. On the weekends, I will swap the shake for an egg. Usually scrambled with cheese and I’ll eat 2/3rds of it...anymore makes me sick. I’ve noticed that in stead of getting nauseous right away when I over eat, I’ll get hay fever symptoms first. Runny nose and itchy watery eyes. One or two more bites and I’ll upchuck. But the runny nose is my warning track. Whatever you do eat SLOWLY and chew.

My health is not great. I have sustained nerve damage from prolonged uncontrolled diabetes. I'm allowed 2 protein bars 2 yogurts and 4oz protein & 1 cup vegetables. In still sick to my stomach and have had to cut down on my medicine significantly. Tomorrow I will take none. I have to drink 1/2 cup of apple juice tomorrow morning if my sugar is low. I'm not sure what 3.2 means? Maybe you have a different number system? Mine has been running under 100. It's very scary, because sometimes I go low.

You can also add sugar free jam to plain Greek yogurt or cottage cheese and sweeten to taste.

I like light and fit Greek yogurt. My program recommends this on. I just had my RNY ON 2/12 I am in the full liquid stage for another day. Yogurt with protein powder added will help you get your protein in.

    Food Stuck ~help

Maybe try cottage cheese or Greek yogurt? Those were easier for me to tolerate early on. Or smooth soups.
  19. I honestly had the same thought during the pre-op diet. But I also thought back to previous times I'd dieted. Without an additional tool (WLS), I'd never been able to keep at it for long. So, even though I lost a lot during pre-op, I also knew that there was a 0% chance I would be able to live long term like I did on the pre-op diet (which was only liquids - shakes and yogurt, basically). Frankly, nor did I want to.

For me it wasn't until the more solid stage that I started to feel my stomach signs of fullness. The more solid the food, the more I feel it. I had never gotten that omg I may have eaten too much feeling until the food was pretty solid and dense. When I eat things like soup and yogurt and cottage cheese, etc I just don't feel full when I have the recommended 4oz. That is what my plan portion is so I serve myself that. My nutritionist said it's ok to have a snack between meals so I'll have an orange or an apple or a pickle or something an hour or so later, I can usually feel that and it helps my head hunger a bit. Hang in there, if the soft food doesn't do much for you like me, the more solid food almost certainly will. Right now you're training your stomach to eat again, and it sucks that some of us don't feel it as easy as others do, but as you progress in stages you will feel it a little more. The important thing is to 1> get in your protein. 2> stick to recommended portion size and allowed foods the best you can. You'll be glad that you did.

    Taking Pills After Surgery

We are surgery twins! Pills are much easier to swallow with a textured medium as opposed to a thin liquid. Take it with a spoon full of yogurt or cottage cheese and you should be fine. Good luck to you!!
  22. It’s been going on since December. N I’m afraid to decrease the food because I’m already starving on the amount I eat. I’ve cut back on snacks n nothing. Snacks were yogurt n cheese wrapped in cheese. I even work out 1-3 times a wk. it just frustrating u know. I’ve stalled before at 2 months post op n it didn’t last but a stall 7 months out n lasting for almost 3 months is crazy.

    Rice

I'm sure you can. I'm still on the soft diet but I've been doing pureed broccoli or cauliflower with a little cottage cheese or greek yogurt to make it creamier.
  24. Liquid: Bodytech Protein Paleo Pro Protein (I used samples and single packs before surgery to see what flavors and brands I liked best). Now that I'm back at work I also use GNC Lean and Prue Protein because they are easy to grab and go with. Also herbal tea, skim milk, sugar free jello, and broth. Soft food diet: Refried Black Beans, Part Skim Riccota, Low Fat Cottage Cheese, Chicken which I puree with Greek Yogurt and Miracle Whip light for chicken salad, frozen broccoli and cauliflower (I puree it with some cottage cheese) Also I drink a lot of Propel Water.
  25. I get most of my protein from dairy—Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Fairlife milk. Plus eggs, protein shakes, protein bars. If you eat dairy, you should be fine.
