  1. So I was debating where to post this, and it seems like a success, so I decided on the success stories board. :-) I was looking through some old pictures today and came across one taken 3 years ago of me and my husband and it just kind of struck me how sad I look. And this picture was not even taken at my highest weight! So I put it side by side with a picture taken a couple weeks ago of us together, and I was amazed. Not only does my body look completely different, but I look genuinely happy. I think a picture can tell a lot about a person.... And younger! Happier and younger is a pretty good combination for 3 years later!

    NSV!!!

Hey, Is it me, or do others find it weird to have donut marketing at the top of this page??? Anyway, I got my labs back today...and I am about 13 weeks post op and down 86 lbs (pre and post op total) since April. My cholesterol is drumroll....wait for it....wait for it....175!!! OMG! I haven't been that low in 20 years! That's NORMAL!!! NORMAL...can't believe I'd ever call anything about me normal. I have also gone from a size 32 to a 24/26 (depending on the brand) although some things are 22's. I am soooo happy. My short term goal is to be down 100 by Christmas. Not sure if I can pull it off as the weight loss has sllllloooowwwwed a bit. But I'm gonna give it my best shot. HEE HEE HEE... I am soooo happy G
  4. Well two in the same day!! This morning I was getting ready to leave the house and it was cold so I pulled out some jeans that once fit but were too tight on me at the end of last winter and they fit comfortably!!! Also while out shopping for new walking shoes this morning I was checking a cute pair out in the mirror I stepped back and I looked at myself and I smiled. I look thinner in my hips and thighs! I've still got a journey ahead of me but YAY!

    Nsv!

Ok I had surgery 4/23 and have lost 40 pounds and it's just now sinking in that I am getting closer to onederland.. But the best thing ever was before surgery I couldn't even reach my feet to tie my shoes and last night I watched tv for hours sitting indian style with my legs folded and comfortable! Plus I tied my shoes this morning haha

Katie--don't feel bad--I had to ask the same thing when I first joined these boards. The other one I didn't know was NSV--which I found out means Non-scale victory. By the way, PBing is also called sliming sometimes--nasty huh? Thank goodness I haven't had any actually experience with that!

It's been a long time since I have bought new clothes besides the usual jeans, t-shirts, stretchy pants and shorts because the last time I tried to get something nice to wear to go out, I ended up staying home because everything looked so horrible on me. You see I'm a true lover of fashion and all that goes with it or as my mother used to tell me a real clothes horse! I have so many clothes that broke the rods in 2 closets, have rolling racks, clothes in boxes and enough shoes to open a boutique! At one point after a huge weight loss (gain almost all of it back or I wouldn't be here) I loved clothes so much, I went to work in a high end clothing store just so I could get the discount and I love to dress people! Sad, isn't it? Well anyway, I ordered a couple of dresses since I am schedule for some orthopedic surgery and I wanted something that was easy on, easy off for the hospital. I took a guess at the size and prayed that they would arrive in time not be too small. Guess what? They did come in time and they were TOO BIG!!! Not only that, but the one I really liked look pretty good one me! I quickly ordered a smaller size of the one I liked and now as I sit here I am thinking I probably should have ordered it 2 sizes smaller than just 1. It may not arrive in time for my surgery date and it too may be too big (I kind of hope so), but guess what? I'm so happy about it, I don't care!

    I'm back...

I haven't posted in a while and I kind of regret it because you all keep me on the right track. I have my lap top at work now so I can stay logged in! I haven't been doing terrible but I haven't been as good as I could. I have had some cocktails (not a lot at a time because I get drunk FAST now) and I have been eating more chips than I need. But I also get an average of 90g of Protein in a day and stay within my allowed calorie range (max 1100 but i average 900-1000 a day). So far I have lost about 45 lbs from my pre-op weight BUT I have stalled like crazy and I have gone down 2 sizes which makes it a little better. NSV: My birthday was this past sunday and I spent it at a banquet celebrating my pastor's 25 anniversary with the church. I wore a satin pencil skirt that I purchased about 3 years ago and was never able to wear. It was so big that as I walked down the hall of the hotel, it turned COMPLETELY around. The split was in the front and if not for my hips it would have been in the floor!!! LOL!!! So this is my progress so far and I plan to pick up n my exercise this week. One question that I have: does taking Vitamins help with weight loss or stalls?? That's probably the one thing I have been really bad at....I haven't really taken any since surgery (mostly because I didn't have the money to get them but I will get them monday when I go to the doctor)

    NSV are the best
  11. Well, folks, I stepped way WAY out of my comfort zone and treated my body to a massage yesterday. Wow! What a wonderful experience. Poor body image and embarrassment fused with shame had stopped me before surgery. Although I'm only down 30-some pounds, I decided to break with old patterns and give it a try. It was rejuvenating and relaxing. Everything I hoped. I've already booked my next on for mid-September.
  12. I am sitting here in the tub trying to enjoy a hot bath. However, I am trying to find a comfortable way to sit. Where did all of these bones on the backside of my body come from? I keep moving around, but can't find anywhere that doesn't hurt to sit for more than a few minutes. NSV for sure!! What are some of your recent NSV?
  13. Some friends and my husband went to Cheesecake Factory last night. Don't get excited, I scoured the nutritionals and finally found a appetizer salad for 390 cal. It was not easy to find something if you go there but it was very good. Now to my NSV. My husband and I were sitting in the booth part of a table that had two chairs and no one was sitting next to me on my side. Later I needed to go to the rest room. I carefully got up and before weight loss I had to turn sideways and be very careful that my big butt did not land on the other people's table. Last night I walked out straight on. No sideways, no getting in people's food. It was great.
  14. A loss is still a loss. If you only gain back 6 or 8 lbs., then you know what you have in a loss. Celebrate them, and celebrate the NSV's. I like those more then seeing weight loss on a scale. As long as you feel your winning that Battle ! Your doing just fine. So Congrats !

So today I'm wearing a brand new (i.e. not stretched) Australian size 14 shirt --- AND IT FITS!!! Plus, I saw a new surgeon (for something unrelated to the band) today, and in taking my history he found out that I'd had the band. He exclaimed "But you're not that big! Why did you get the band?!" I was like... ummm, I used to be bigger than I currently am!!! :D
  16. So I'll be 2 months out Monday. Yesterday I decided to go try on pants, didn't think I would actually buy since my "skinny" pants aren't *that* loose. Today I'm wearing a brand new pair of size 16s! The last time I was a 16 I was a sophmore in high school. I shopped in the "regular" department - I don't know the last time I even went in the regular department! I was kind of embarrassed to even be over there at first, I felt like people would see me and think "who does that fat girl think she's fooling?" I'm so excited, I think maybe there was a part of me that didn't really believe the sleeve would work, even though I've been loosing weight - somehow new pants make it real!

Hmm.... Week 1 weight loss, or not.

I lost 19 lbs pre-op (360lb at surgery) and as of this morning I am 344. There is part of me that wants more. However I am only 9 days post op. I have to remind myself I didn't get this way over night so i can't expect it to come off that way. It's hard to not be a slave to the scale. I like NSV more. My clothes are fitting better and I have have been losing inches on my measurements. Stay positive and keep up the work.

    Nsv I Think?

That is funny:) Pants falling down is definatly a NSV!

    Nsv Ho Roundup!

OK, I'll play. My best NSV's so far are: Having a pair of jeans fall off my body when I reached up on my tip toes into a tall cabinet. Thankfully, no one but me was in the kitchen. Fitting into my decadent bathtub and having my whole body fit underneath the water (no beached whale effect like before surgery). Getting my flexibility back to get up from the floor playing with the grandkids and in the bedroom playing with my sweetie Finding my bones and my muscles as the fat melted away and I started exercising (I have a small frame - who knew?) Looking great in size 10 and 12 petite clothes!

    Awesome NSV! Well done, you!
  23. Pla.. Pluto...Plate-o...pl... P... Oh... here we go... Plato. And... more seriously. food is half the equation. Don't forget the activity. If you are exercising you may be doing some weight re-distribution. NSV's may abound while the scales stay obstinate. And if you aren't exercising... tsk tsk tsk :xena_banana::Banane03::Banane20: ....obey the Bananas and get moving!
