How much did you gain w/ band & baby?
Wheetsin replied to Liz1531's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Update from a previous post: I got really swollen, they actually brought me in for a problem OB expecting pre-eclampsia because of how swollen I was, and that I was going up about a pound a day. But my BP and everything else was fine so I was sent home with advice to wear support hose from the moment I get out of the shower until I go to bed (no thanks). I've now lost the fluid (and the weight, I'm back to being about 15 pounds below my conception weight, so no weight gain yet - I'm just bouncing back and forth between the same 4 pounds), and have found that I only swell when I'm sitting. I haven't done that since I lost the weight to begin with. Bad flashback. If I can remember to get up and walk every hour or so, I do fine. I've also cut way back on my sodium, just to be careful. -
switched from orals to Mirena about 18 months after my sleeve (due to age and extended length of time being on estrogen) and LOVE it. no weight gain that i can pinpoint directly (i have had about 18-20 lb regain but more related to stress eating and falling off my plan). also no more periods at all, which is expected with Mirena. No issues, i would recommend to anybody.

I had a mirena IUD inserted in preparation for surgery. I've had it about three months now, and I'm very happy. My periods are lighter (I've always had heavy periods when not on the pill). I do have some spotting mid-cycle, and for a couple days before and after my period, but I had that before, and it was heavier and longer in duration then. Definitely no weight gain from it. Awesome !!!!! You done did it !!!!! Well done. The sipping has become easier for me every day. Now I have to make sure I keep the glass filled with ice and topped off with Water or else I tend to gulp it down (old habits). It's become second nature to have the glass beside me. I hope you progress well. You probably already know this, but stay away from the scale for a while. It seems there is a predictable weight gain during our surgeries and hospital stay (IV fluids doing their thing, inflammation Fluid gain, etc). Just stay strict on the diet and know that it'll all flush out in due time. Great job. You've taken a big step towards becoming healthy. Doing so at a young age is outstanding. Your life will be fun and exiting and HEALTHY. Awesome !!!! -
Hey guys... Ok so i got sleeved on 10/06. As of 3 days ago. my weightloss was of 40 pounds. But today, when I got on the scale, I was up 4 pounds. Im freaking out a little bit... Have lost way too much weight
Arabesque replied to sammi123's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We have a similar story. I’m an inch taller, weighed 49.6kgs today, wear a US size 2 & have to work at maintaining. I lost more than my goal weight (another 10kg) while trying to find the right balance & combination of food to maintain. It takes very little for my weight to drop & a lot to gain it again. Not that I really manage to - last month I sat between 50-50.5kg, this month it’s 49.2-50. I feel I eat all day too. I added snacks with multi/whole grains & continue to focus on portion control & healthy food choices. I often eat a meal over a long period of time (50+ mins at lunch) so I can consume a little more & then have to fit in snacks. It can be a challenge. On Tuesday a doctor on my surgeon’s team said I need to put on 4kgs but I’m conscious of the strong likelihood of the year 2/3 weight gain @catwoman7 mentioned. I’d rather stay at this weight with a possibility of a 5kg gain in a year or so than put on 4 now & then another 5+. I just want to be able to stay where I am now cause I’m happy, feel fine & my blood work is very good. -
Help guys -- Band or Sleeve? I'm scheduled for band Feb.1
PattyGirl66 replied to outlaw's topic in The Guys’ Room
Hi Outlaw, Well, it looks like you did a great job with research on both of these weight loss surgeries. However, when it comes right down to it, it becomes truly a 'personal' choice. No one can sway you from one or the other. Remembering there are risks with any surgeries. Now, since you have scheduled surgery date for lapband surgery in 3 weeks, my guess is you have readily thought this through and decided lapband is the right choice for you? Maybe you are just getting cold feet? It happens to all of us! Personally for myself, I wanted something less invasive and god forbid if anything went wrong or my body rejected the band, I could have it removed for my safety. I knew this wasn't an option with the other surgeries. I was also really nervous about malabsorption with gastric and the sleeve, let’s face it I am not a spring chicken and I need all the nutrients/vitamins I can store in my body. Also, no matter what surgery you choose, you will have to work out it, weight gain happens on all 3! The band gives you a little more of an edge because you can always work with it to lose/maintain the weight. Have you gone through the plan with your surgeon what you will be eating like from now on moving forward with the band? If you have, then my guess is you are ready to be a bandster! Best wishes, -
Gym / Personal trainer slowing weight loss ?
tekjr1 replied to YummyMummy101's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe for purposes of not lifting weights until the risk of hernia has passed. Otherwise, how can doing cardio workouts be harmful unless you have another medical issue that restricts you from exercise. Muscle is heavier than fat so therefore any gain in muscle may show up as a weight gain but it is advantageous in the long run. -
It's been 20 years since my bypass. My surgery weight was 379. My lowest was 170. The most I weighed post opp was 243. I'm now 218 and I'm struggling to get under 200. Anyone else here has this problem. I know alcohol is one of the biggest set back

Antidepressents?
NiftyNinjanator replied to melanndoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and re: weight gain. I gained 100 pounds over the few years I was on zoloft. Switched back to prozac and started losing it steadily. I am sure they are all different, and even different peopl have different reactions, but for me prozac does not cause weight gain. Zoloft sure as hell does though. I switched to zoloft from prozac about a month before meeting my now hubby. I figured I just got fatter from being happy or something. Then I got pregnant and nursed, so that left me on zoloft for 2 years or so and my ob prescribed them. When I went back to my shrink we went over everything and hat was when the timeline all clicked and it made sense. I never really remembered or put 2 & 2 together that I started gaining with the zoft until I went back to my shrink, who was the one who actually switched me. Durn it. -
This is such a fabulous topic. When we got married I was overweight and he vowed to love me through thick and thin....or so I thought. 18 months ago I lost a substantial amount of weight, my husband became OBSESSED with my progress. It is all we talked about. Then as per my usual behaviour pattern the weight slowly but surely crept back on and all of a sudden the person who he pledged undying love to changed. He was disappointed and really questioned my committment to my health. I need to add that during the months of weight gain I had opened a new bridal shop and was continuing my current job as a flight attnedant....there was noooooo freakin time for exercise. I felt like a failure and I spiralled into a bit of a funk....well quite a deep funk. The I found out about the Sleeve. Yes, I am doing this for myself first and foremost. Will my marriage survive...I hope so but I have learned that I am a wonderful person whether I am 210 pounds or 150 pounds. I need to do this for my health....moreso my mental health and I will go from there. Thank you for starting this topic. I can really relate to it.!!!

It's interesting, because my current "whatever-he-is" was a football player, but since coming home from college, while he still EATS like a football player, he doesn't work out like one. Even before the sleeve, I had healthy eating habits, and exercised regularly. He sleeps through his gym alarm every morning, and I hear him order his food after work at Jack in the Box: "Two extreme sausage sandwiches, 4 tacos, jalapeno poppers, and fries." Really, AND FRIES??? He has gained a lot of weight, which really doesn't bother me. I just get so frustrated, because he is so concerned with it, but he doesn't ACT like he cares. He is the only person I have EVER met who orders carne asada nachos with EXTRA meat, and EXTRA cheese. I can't even get him to touch veggies, and when he does, he makes a big production of it, like I'm forcing him. Do I feel disgusted? Maybe. But moreso, it's hard for me with this new lifestyle to imagine us going much further. Being supportive because he is excited I'll be thinner is one thing...but what about being supportive because he sees the difference good choices can make, surgery or not? It's not that I'm not attracted to him, so much as I just am frustrated with his lack of motivation, although he harps about how much the weight gain bothers him. Now I've babbled. But I feel better!

Hello, I had the sleeve done in Feb/2016, and went from 269 to 165. I had gallbladder removal last August and have been gaining back slowly. So far I’ve gained 10lbs back. I’m staring to get depressed and don’t wanna go binging since I’m an emotional eater. Any advice would really help. Thank you.

Well today two things hit me and it hit me hard. :huh2: 1. I realized my hair is a bit thin in places, well that is from the first few weeks post op. I know I wasn't getting my Vitamins and Proteins the way I should have. Harder then you think on a total liquid diet. But now, I am back on track so it should start coming back (HOPEFULLY before the hubby comes home I will have some growth back). Not gonna stress it cause it happens, not much you can do but make sure you get all your vitamins and proteins. Which I am. 2. (and this one is the worst) I got on my scale today and 3 lbs are back from the abyss. I know its because I am back on a full foods diet (well mostly, but I still have partial liquid and/or mushies at times) and my body is trying to hold on to it. Guess its time to up my 30 minute elliptical trip to 45. I mean I was expecting some weight gain back, before my fill but it still hurts. Ok, that is my bitch for the day, I will get over it *counts* Ok, not full over it but getting there. Like I said I was expecting both but hoping neither happened. Who knows maybe the 3lbs is a delayed ToM bloat ( wishful thinking I know) cause I didn't really gain on that first day of my ToM and I am on my last days now. *deep breath* Ok, I am done, not fully over it but hey what are ya gonna do ya? :rolleyes2::cursing::thumbup::cursing::smile2::cursing:

@@tracy amanda. Eating the occasional treats vary from person to person, so the decision to occasionally eat unhealthy choices is up to you. What has worked for me: I ate very strictly while I was in the "losing phase". I never had any treats or even the occasional cracker, rice, bread. However, once I entered my maintenance phase I incorporated some healthy carbs such as whole grain rice, sweet potatoes, beets, more fruit, etc. I also will eat the occasional treats such as cookies, chocolate, doughnuts, etc. I have always logged my food so I have been able to see patterns and identify how many calories and carbs I can safely eat before the weight gain starts. For some eating unhealthy carbs can be a trigger to go down a slippery slope. However, if you are able to eat them and immediately get back on your normal plan then the occasional treat isn't bad.

Each day there are more and more newly banded people here who are questioning their weight loss. You think you should have lost more or be losing more then you have. A loss is a loss whether it be pounds or inches. You are not going to lose weight every day, every week or even every month in some cases. No one that is obese ever gained 100lbs over night or some even over a year. It was a gradual weight gain that will take time to get rid of. You're questioning what am I doing wrong. If you are following the plan that your doctor put in place for you to the T then you are doing nothing wrong. As the body loses weight it has to catch up if you initially lose a lot in the beginning. People have went months with no weight loss but as long as you are not gaining you will get there. 1 to 2lbs a week is normal for a lapband patient. If it's more then you're that much more ahead of the game. Be patient, stay off the scale. Weigh yourself once a week or every other so you won't suffer disappointment and question if you made the right decision. If you can't stop weighing yourself then you have to stop being disappointed every time you don't lose. Just hang in there it will happen if you are doing exactly what you are suppose to be doing. You can't eat ice cream, cake, Cookies, potato chips and all the other junk food and wonder why the scale is not moving. Drink your Water, eat your portion size and make sure most of that is Protein, make sure you get 8 hours of sleep at night because you lose weight when you are sleeping, make sure you are moving your bowels every day and stop stressing. You will get there.

Hi There, My surgery went very well! I am so glad it is behind me but doctor said I did very well... Guess my liver looked fabulous! I only had two bouts of nausea. One was when I was coming out of the anesthesia and then when they took me off the diauladin intravenous pain meds. But as soon as the gave me the anti-nausea meds I was fine. I stayed two nights in the hospital. I was very happy with my care at Lahey. I took a shower for the first time this morning and that felt wonderful. I get tired easily but each day I feel better. Trying to get down the recommended fluids is tough... If I sip too quickly I burp alot... It is a process getting use to the new you... I'm sore like I did a million situps but pain meds help with this. All in all I'm doing well!! Thanks so much for checking!!! I'll keep you posted as I progress.. Oh one thing that I think others have experienced but bummed me out was that I gained 9lbs while in the hospital. My sister-in-law who is a nurse said it is because of all the IV fluids they pumped into me and this weight will be lost quickly.... Did others experience this weight gain while in hospital?? -
I thought someone might find this helpful. It's the approval guidelines for BC/BS Regence. Even if this isn't your ins. co. it's a good guideline. I have been through all the pre-op steps and insurance approval and have a surgery date of 12/9. My problem is I quit smoking on 10/19 and I have gained 7-8lbs from that. I didnt even realize that I was overeating. Now of course I'm worried that I may run into problems with surgery. My surgeon's office made it clear that weight gain before surgery is not acceptable. Any one else have this problem? Starting today I'm going to the gym and watch what I eat....

Nov. 14th 2012 was my new life changer. Gastric bypass. I was never depressed or diagnosed with anything before surgery. But after surgery I have been the most depressed person ever. I look in the mirror and I still see this big fat ugly person. But I'm not as big as I used to be. I have gained weight and don't know why?! I was 380lbs Nov. 2012, day of surgery. Then I dropped to 170lbs. Just this past year I gained weight 211lbs and I feel so disgusting. Is depression normal? Is this weight gain normal? And how do you get this weight off? Also I have allot of extra skin. Seeing it makes me sick. I don't have medical nor money so does anyone know how to go about getting skin removed cheep or free?? Thanks and God bless. Weight Gain From Anti-Histamine
GreenTealael replied to Soca Angel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take Benadryl fairly often (at least once a week) and no side effect of weight gain for me. -
Hi Ellen, Your goals and decisions our yours. I’m not going to say what you can or can’t do with your weight. You are not alone, Weight gains can bring you down. It’s easier to work off a 20-pound gain than a 40, 60, 80-pound gain. You may want to start with a five pound loss as a goal. Think of this as being healthy Vs being 170. No one can predict how much you can or can’t lose @GreenTealael mention joining a weight loss challenge.(click on her link) It’s a great place to start and get support. Best of luck to you.

I am new and have looked over every thread and searched every which way. I am 3 of 6 supervised diet program and keep gaining. I do not understand why. I am eating right, no cheating, exercising to the best of my ability (i get horrible headaches and dizzy), taking the vitamins but still gaining. I have Carefirst BCBS VA and looked at the medical policies required for the surgery. NO WHERE does it say I have to loose weight during the diet phase. I obviously cant seem to do it alone thats why im going for the surgery. Im 5'4 with a BMI of 49.7 as of this mornings weighing. my insurance policies say i need a BMI over 40 and psych eval. Anyone have experience with Carefirst rejecting due to weight gain? I am at my limit and stressing so bad which I am sure is adding to my weight gain. Hoping for surgery in June 2023 and looking for others experience and help. thanks in advance, and I am sorry if this asked before. I havent been able to find anything with this carrier.

So I am doing my 6 month supervised diet. I went on vacation and gained some weight. I think I am still going to be up by a couple pounds by the time my next weigh in is. Is this going to be detrimental to me? I have lost like 3-4 pounds every month so far (this will be my 4th weigh in).
