Okay so I am still so terrible with this stuff but my dietician makes it seem so much more confusing and I really need to understand this so I can get it right this time. I asked her what my requirements would be post SADI surgery and she said 1000-1200 calories 90g protein 90 carbs (45 fruit and veggies and 45 from starch), and 15g fat. I am trying to eat similar to that now to see what it’s like and I am logging my food. I figured my portions will be a little larger so I won’t be able to hit the exact goals but wanted to see where I am. This morning I did great with my protein iced coffee which is just a caramel shake with some coffee mixed in. Low calorie and carb and high protein. This afternoon however I thought I would have 2 scrambled eggs and one Turkey sausage Patty. The calories and carbs are fine but it seems like Either that fat goal is unrealistic or the protein goal is from normal food if there is really 15g of fat in two scrambled eggs and only like 13 grams of protein? Even if I forget the 7g of fat leaving out the Turkey sausage just two eggs is too much fat for one meal and reduces the protein. I hate egg whites but assumed two scrambled eggs would be okay. I know post surgery I will not eat two whole eggs which will reduce the fat some but also the protein. Could i add protein powder to the egg or something? Maybe an egg and a yogurt would be a better option? Or Do I have to just suck it up and eat the egg whites. She also said something about three teaspoons of “healthy fat” and I’m not sure if that’s in addition to the 15g of mono and polyunsaturated fat or if 15 is the total which may be where I’m getting confused. I just emailed her asking for clarification but last time it took her like two weeks to get back to me so I figured I’d see if anyone else can make sense of this.

What is Taking? I have the I can’t believe it’s not butter light in a tub and the fat is a lot better than butter and actually better than their original but I just want to cut it further if I can because of my gallbladder removal. I’m supposed to introduce fat very slowly to see what my body can handle. I guess I can just measure and use less of the light one so I will have a way of knowing how much fat is in there exactly. I did find a recipe for skinny shrimp scampi too that’s juice is almost what I was speaking of that I had earlier. It has shallots and garlic and uses only one tablespoon of butter and one of olive oil. The rest is broth and wine (which I will just do more broth). I’m gonna try that out but have the other option as well and see which way is better. Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

I would avoid the V8 juice because of its low protein content. You need to get your protein in even before surgery (it’s good practice for after surgery too). Why waste those calories on something that won’t benefit your protein intake? You are consuming a lot of fluids which can be adding to any water retention you are experiencing too. Are you peeing a lot more? Give it a few more days for your body to get used to the low calorie, all fluid diet before worrying about the scales. All the best with your surgery. Exciting!!

Hey family! Maybe i have to do better with my protein intake — or this is just a normal life occurence. Either way it was beyond brutal and scary and i pray i never have to experience it again. -
Lets talk about food!

I bought a ninja creami machine and I get the keto chow mix and I make a yummy protein ice cream. I tend to use milk or water instead of heavy cream because of the calories but it still turns out ok. I also love just fruit in it too, my favorite is pears. Coffee with a protein shake also makes great ice cream. It's fun to throw in weird things and see what happens lol. -
I took it prior to surgery while I was still considering options. It did absolutely nothing except made my hair fall out. After about 90days. I didn’t go bald but it was definitely noticeable and I did find out that was a weird side effect. max dose for weight-loss and I lost zero pounds. It gave me headaches the first 2-3 weeks but other than that it was not worth it

Usually weight loss & eating more nutritious foods boosts your immune system. Maybe you’re a little run down from the recovery & healing, the physical & emotional stress of it all, from the changed diet/lower calories & the initial more rapid weight loss. Low protein can affect healing but, if I remember correctly your protein intake has been okay. How are your iron levels? Anaemia can affect your immune system too. Sorry lancing the abscess was so painful. ☹️ -
The more I think about it the more I think the creons I take are a contributing factor. They slow your digestion down as it passes through the intestines so you can absorb more nutrients. It’s used for malabsorption of protein, carbs and fats. Adds to my occasional issues with constipation. Fun! I’ve always eaten lean meats and while I eat more dairy now it’s still only about two serves of the recommended three serves a day. Can’t do the low fat or skim milk as I drink lactose free milk and reducing the fat makes it taste incredibly sweet & I can’t tolerate it. And the high protein yoghurt I eat (isn’t sweet) isn’t available in low fat. PS - The coronary artery calcium test gave me a score of zero the best you can get. At least I have a base score now for future comparison.

Fav Protein powder/shake?
Aunt Fin replied to Fars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the Quest protein shakes. The salted caramel is my favorite flavor. -
Checking in! I started my liquid diet today and I'm feeling fine so far. I did initially mess up this morning because I'd bought some Equate lesser protein shakes (13g/protein rather than my standard 30) and failed to realize that the one I drank this morning had 20 grams of SUGAR and 50 grams of CARBS! In one little bottle; I was very angry at myself for not checking the nutrition facts better - I got a 24 pack of them, too! *Facepalm* Thankfully I still had some of my Max Protein 30mg/Protien & 1g of sugar ones, so that's what I had for lunch and 'dinner'. I'm waiting on my sugar-free jello to set up - Here's hoping it hurries! I hope you other gals are doing well! @Rosslyn @Shop Girl

I got my local Vietnamese restaurant to sell me a container of pho broth without any noodles, it was fantastic. Bouillon, or bone-broth (for the protein!) can satisfy that salt-craving. If you like creamy soups, cream of mushroom (with all the bits strained out). And honestly, all my life I avoided cream-of 'meat' soups but post-op, cream of chicken and cream of bacon were surprisingly good. Sometimes too, the abundance of post-op protein shakes and their super-strong sweeteners is just overwhelming. If you haven't tried it yet, try some unflavored & unsweetened protein powder with milk, and just add a dash of cinnamon or a drop of almond extract to get some non-sweet flavors hitting your tastebuds.

Can you eat a cup and a half post sleeve
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No cheese? That’s the best part 😂. My husband may have tried to steal your slice though. He usually picks off the cheese. I had to look up aubergine and couragette. We call them eggplant and zucchini. I’ve never had them on pizza but now I’m going to have to try it. I like pizza with bell peppers and onion. Those and mushrooms are about the extent of the veggie options around here. I actually had a lot of pizza shortly after my sleeve. I would do it with cauliflower crust then add ricotta, mozzarella and chicken plus pepper and onion. It was quite tasty. Then my capacity grew larger and the calories just added up too much to be on my plan. If only I could eat one slice and stop myself. Guess I wouldn’t be needing this surgery. 🤣 -
Need suggestions please!!!

When I was trying to slow my weight loss I was snacking 5 x a day. I felt like I was eating all day long. In time my meal sizes got a little larger though I still snack 3-4 x a day to get the calories in. Peanut paste, nuts, protein bar, string cheese, yoghurt. baked fava beans or chick peas, half an apple, small bunch of grapes, & my left over rolled oats, yoghurt & dried cranberry breakfast are all snack options. I’m a full fat milk & full fat salad dressing girl too. No low fat foods in my kitchen (in many cases it’s high sugar &/or high salt to compensate for the low fat). I wouldn’t get worried yet. Yes there is the bounce back many experience to keep in mind. Your remaining fat will resettle and changes your body shape & you’ll look less gaunt especially in the face. Much like we tell people while they’re losing not to worry about the number on the scales too much, the same is true now while things are stabilising. Though you say you look bony & too skinny how much of this is body dysmorphia & you’re not really seeing yourself? Are you too skinny or is it too skinny in comparison to how big you were before? Are you really seeing bones sticking out or just seeing some shadowing of bones or feeling bones which you’ve never seen or felt before or have forgotten? It takes time to really see yourself after weight loss. Our brains can really twist our thinking. -
The Dreaded Calorie Talk
summerseeker replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with @Arabesque I was on 200 Cals at 2 months, Didn't manage to get to 800 until about 9 months. Nine months later I was on less than 1000 Cals. My team only bothered about protein and liquids. They advised me to try 6 tiny meals a day. Full fat products helped me. As in cheese, nuts, milk and yogurts. I never had protein drinks. My surgeon was against them. I had milk shakes but made my own but M&S do some, a strawberry shake per 250 mls = 180 Cals and 8 grams of protein. Don't stress over this period, just do your best every day. We are not all the same -
Not sure if you would like it but you could add high protein/greek yogurt to the jelly, before it sets, so that it sets like a pudding texutre. You would get a higher protein amount if you also included some protein powder into the mix. This is how I have made it; 1 packet of sugar free jelly 250ml boiling water 300g greek yogurt 30g protein powder (I alternated between vanilla and natural) To make: In a just/bowl add the boiling water and jelly sachet. Mix until well combined and set aside, just to let it cool for a couple of minutes. In a blender add the yogurt, protein powder and jelly mix. Blitz until smooth. Pour into ramakins /small bowls and cover, let set in the fridge for at least 3 hours. One large bowl is about 50g protein so it will then just depend on how you portion it out but MyFitnessPal (or similar) can calculate that for you. I found the above one on Instagram and I am sure you could find similar if you wanted to have a look. The rest of the time I just had broth, made out of stock cubes with protein powder in it. The liquid phase isn't that bad or too long (if you only have to go through it once, I had to do it three times) so I just had the yogurts. puddings and broth/soup.

I love MyProtein for powders. For shakes, I also like Ufit, Grenade and For Goodness Shakes. I hate protein bars. I've never found a good one.

Awesome vegetarian recipe. High protein and veggie rich too!

Thanks! I'm definitely focusing on protein! I'm going to see how it goes until my follow up appointment in two weeks and discuss with the doctor. -
I’m finding it very difficult to eat at night. I normally don’t get home from work until after 6:00pm. I’ve tried eating soft scrambled eggs, soft boiled egg, oatmeal with protein but I end up with a stomachache. I’m am taking small bites, waiting plenty of time for the food to settle and barely able to eat 1/2 of whatever I’m trying to eat. I feel hungry but after maybe 3 bites, I’m through just because of the discomfort. I know it’s barely been a month but I feel like I need my nighttime meal but it’s difficult. Any ideas or suggestions. After finding a higher protein FairLife shake, 30 grams, I do drink those during the day so I know I’m getting at least 60 G protein. What should I do differently

When could you eat a standard portion?
FifiLux replied to LoveLearning's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Not that familiar with the switch surgery but I presume it would be the same for all surgeries in that after the surgery there is a new "standard" to meal sizes. If you went back to eating what would be a normal size meal pre-op you would probably make yourself ill and uncomfortable as you can't fit the food in. I am almost a year and a half out (sleeve) and if I had to have a sandwich I would have half per meal but I am trying to stay away from bread/pasta/rice as much as possible as they take up space in my smaller stomach that should have proteins as the priority. I was in the US recently and was happy to see that Pret did half portions so I just got their one half chicken and avocado to have when on the go. For me I still find that for breakfast a yogurt, for lunch and dinner 150ml/3oz of food with a small snack a while later is sufficient for me main meal wise. I think have protein drink or bar as snacks if needed. When eating out I usually just have a starter and would not always finish. If ordering a main course I usually manage 1/3, or 1/2 if it is a small one, and bring the rest home. -
I can seem to open what you have and of course I didn’t save the recipe I tried but I remember it called for vanilla protein powder (I’m sure you could substitute any flavor you like). If the recipe you have doesn’t call for protein powder you may need to add a splash more milk. To up the protein you can add things like Greek yogurt, nuts, seeds, or nut butter (just be sure to add natural nut butter and be conscious of the calories).

Odd presurgery diet
NeonRaven8919 replied to Bexinmo78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor put me on 12 weeks! Not a typo. 12 weeks of protein shakes and broth. I have 10 weeks to go. The doctor will have their reasons for the diet so I guess it's just individual difference. -
Thank you! I’ll for sure go back to just protein shakes

My main concern is, with you being active and on liquids only for 3 months, at some point your body may think it's starving and hold on to everything. If you're active, you actually need more calories to lose weight. Make sure you're having things like protein shakes, bone broth, etc so at least your body is getting some of what it needs. Protein is REALLY important, so prioritize that. I absolutely wish you well!!
