There is a difference between unflavored and flavorless. Unflavored only means that there is no flavoring added to cover the natural flavor of whatever protein they are selling. Flavorless is just about unobtainable unless you look at Genepro which is snakeoil. Totally worthless BS from an unreputable company. But it mixes well and has no flavor, so many people buy it.

Surgery 6/21, down 40 lbs so far, absolutely no issues with anything so far. Going to Disney end of this month, at the 3 month mark, and also have the dining plan. I plan to enjoy myself but still try to make certain I get enough protein and exceeed my daily water needs. I’m taking my Genepro protein powder and some sugarfree pudding cups (the non-refrigerated ones), so if I don’t feel like I made my protein for the day it’s easy enough to add 10-30g of protein to a cup of pudding before bed. Since you’re with so many others you won’t be wasting food when you can’t finish more than a small portion of your meal cuz they can help out lol. Especially the free dessert with dinner. Enjoy a bite or two, if your tummy can handle it than share with others. Same with the alcohol. I don’t drink but get a wine with my dinners and my husband can enjoy it after I try a sip or two. I’m at least 50-60 lbs own from last trip there a few years ago and looking forward to not worrying about if I’ll fit ok in the rollercoaster seats. Last time missed out on one of them. Stay safe in the storm right now, Good luck with your surgery and have an awesome vacay!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Naughty Glitter Goddess replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a similar concern but what's working right now is Genepro protein powder for supplementation. Its a tiny scoop that dissolves a really easily in a half of a cup of liquid. So I do one scoop of protein powder which is 30 grams of protein in a half a cup of Fairlife milk. Then I add instant decaf coffee and whatever flavor I want. I have that for breakfast then I usually have another one as a snack in the afternoon. After my breakfast I'll have a bite or two of food maybe refried beans or tuna if I can tolerate it but I will have actual food for lunch and dinner. I've used the ricotta bites, refried beans, and tuna so far. I may try adding a couple of other foods this weekend. I hope you find something that works for you! -
I started adding Genepro to my yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero) and I love that you can't taste it at all!
-
I take unflavored GenePro. I got it from Amazon and it’s 30 grams for a small scoop. I put it in my mug of chicken broth. You can put this in anything. I hate shakes!

This is when it really hits home. You are going through food withdrawals. I just had a revision from band to sleeve and I’m 14 days post and feeling the same thing, just not as intense as the first time around. Just don’t push it, please. Let the internal incision heal. I also just had my 2 week dr visit today and 6 more days until mushy to semi solids. You can do this. You’ll make it through and look back and be glad you did. Protein helps keep you full. I hate shakes and put unflavored GenePro in my broth. It’s a little scoop that has 30 grams and it really keeps you from feeling hungry. I hope this helps!

12 days until surgery!! Yes I am counting down and trying to get all the things I need beforehand. Here is what I have so far: Gas-X thin strips Liquid tylenol Magnesium Citrate Dulcolax (for day before) Biotene Gentle Mist Moisturizing Mouth Spray Genepro flavorless protein powder Stur drinks natural flavored water enhancers Premier protein - vanilla, chocolate, orange mango clear (for day before) Organic baby food (meat & vegetable) comfy clothes, shorts for walking the halls Vionic Orthaheel sandals (I have plantar fasciitis) overnight toiletries pillow for car ride home ask about a bariatric surgery girdle tiny spoons to eat with If you have any other ideas, please let me know -
If sweet isn't your thing. stay away from those shots. I ordered some before surgery and forgot about them until last week. I tried one and couldn't not even finish it. I have not tried adding to water to dilute. TOO sweet for me. Premier protein doesn't make me sick, im just sick of them! Ive recently bought genepro powder and that has helped. I need to be more dedicated to getting all that protein in also!

Unflavored protein powder
Naughty Glitter Goddess replied to AngelaM258's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
There are two unflavored protein powders that I really like. The Bariatricpal Protein One and Genepro work really well for me primarily because they blend in quickly and easily. There is definitely a flavor which I ususally mask easily in a soup or broth. But the BEST way to mask the flavor in my limited experience is to mix the protein powder with water in the blender, then add ice, your sweetener of choice and then 1/2 of a Kool Aid packet (the tiny packets that you would usually mix with sugar) They taste just like a Kool Aid slushy! For a slightly different consistency, I've even added a couple tablespoons of sugar free Jello powder instead of Kool Aid and sweetener. My husband blended up a couple of these ahead of time and tossed them in the freezer - those are fantastic after a nice outdoor swim in this heat! -
A lot of people love Premier protein shakes. I did until post op I couldn’t tolerate them; made me have diarrhea. Now I stick strictly to premier protein clear drinks & Genepro odorless, tasteless powder. I mix half a scoop Genepro into my premier protein with a crystal light and drink everyday. So much easier and cheaper than buying a multitude of other products. I still have powder I purchased pre op that I haven’t opened & eventually I may play around with them as drink them or give them away so moral of the story is try some now, see what ya like but don’t go overboard with buying lots of drinks because you may have different taste buds post op or you may not be able to tolerate it. Vitamin Shoppe is good about giving samples & GNC will go e you store credit for opened products you don’t like or full refund on stuff you haven’t opened

I have no personal experience with genepro, but.... I have seen articles and peoples comments on here. They are or were going through a lawsuit because there is supposedly only 10 grams of protein instead of the 30 as advertised. Im not saying its not a quality product, just don't want you to short yourself as far as the protein u think u are getting. If it mixes clear and flavorless I would use it but maybe only count it as 10 just incase. My opinion only! -
Non-sweet pre-made protein shake options
Anthropose replied to Anthropose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Kjan, I tried the GENEPRO, and it's working well. I mixed it into some diluted, sugar-free crystal lite, and I can't taste anything. I figured the amount of sucralose in my diluted crystal lite is unlikely to be greater than the amounts found in those sweet shakes. I'm also about to order some samplers from Unjury, as recommended by others. Did you have any problems with the protein powder becoming de-natured in your hot coffee? -
Non-sweet pre-made protein shake options
KJan replied to Anthropose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same problem. The only way I could drink and can still drink the protein shake is to mix it with decaf coffee. Another alternative my doctor suggested was unflavored protein - by Genepro 30g per scoop- it truly is flavorless and can be mixed in liquids even soups and can even be added in things like scrambled eggs to increase the protein. -
Brain is Hungry but Stomach is Not
Bryn910 replied to katiecat.batman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try adding flavorless protein powder to your crystal light to get your protein in. It is quite norma to not have the desire this early out. For some, it lasts months, for a variety of bariatric surgeries. I use Genepro brand powder to mix in with my crystal light. It clumps easily but use a blender bottle or blender to mix well -
Cant get enough calories and protein in. Help
wjgo replied to eso0402's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fairlife milk has 50% more Protein than normal milk. Try sugar free Jello pudding, with unflavored protein mix. It's awesome. Make sure to use a high quality protein mix like GENEPRO. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app -
FYI, there is no such thing as "medical quality" protein. That's just a marketing gimmick. If you notice, they trademarked the term... so it's not a legit thing, it's just their marketing bs. UNJURY® Medical Quality Protein™ Genepro was sued for a bunch of things, but one thing that came out of the lawsuit was "no industry or FDA standard for "medical grade" protein exists" https://www.leagle.com/decision/infdco20171213e89 Are unjury products good... sure, are they really that much better than other proteins... some, but not all. And don't fall for that marketing BS... if it works for you, awesome. But it's not because of some non-existent "medical grade" protein standard. For the record, All "Whey Isolates" are more tolerable to those with lactose issues. Some more than others... https://healthyeating.sfgate.com/can-lactose-intolerant-people-drink-whey-protein-shakes-11706.html

I'm new here. Had surgery on July 2nd. Been a very easy recovery but i feel no restriction at all. Still on full liquid stage and eating only what I'm supposed to but starving. Getting in my protein with Genepro 3 times a day. And I'm sure I should not be weighing myself but I cant help it. Lost 20 pounds first seven days but the scale has not moved in the last four. Just seeking some reassurance that this is normal.

The patches have a similar issue to GenePro protein claiming to provide more protein than was in the serving itself. I've reached out to PatchMD looking for clinical trials etc because, I was skeptical as well. But I figured I'd give them a try anyway. And all my levels are normal - high end of normal. Less the Vitamin D as stated. So, they are working for me. I've read the report you posted, before I started my own trials. I've taken it into account and still figured I'd try these myself. I'll see if my levels change at the 6 month check in or not.

Appetite back with a vengance!
jess9395 replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can’t make the new app work the way I want it to! Yes I was trying to quote her post asking about Genepro. She said she didn’t know how it could have those calories and no carbs. -

Not wanting to step on Jess's toes, but to clarify, she is referring to Genepro. It is not possible for it to contain the 30 g of protein it claims to, with the calorie count it claims (and actual weight of the product) -

Hi Michelle. I use the genpro 2nd generation flavourless protein which I bought from this website actually. It is 'supposed' to have 30 grams of protein, no sugar or carbs but I posted this in another thread and someone posted links that the company that owns genpro was sued in 2015 for not having the claimed protein in the powder. All I can say is that I HOPE that since it still continues to be sold and since its the reboot (2nd generation) that they have rectified this. Which may be wishful thinking...…...sigh. I do not see that is possible for protein to have 58.7 calories per scoop but no carbs? but that is what it says https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation I cannot access high grade protein powders in Barbados. I bought all of my supplies ahead of my surgery which was overseas and brought them back with me. They do have protein powders here but they are high carb and taste very grainy and don't have the flavourless kind, only vanilla, strawberry, etc. -
Diet During First 2 weeks
BajanSleeve replied to California joe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@California joe There is tons of information on the internet to help guide you. It seems that each doctor recommends slightly different to the next but its generally the same. Mine was liquids only for 2 weeks and then by 3 weeks I could add more things like milk, yogurt, blended vegetables in my soups, a teaspoon of peanut butter etc. I am still eating pureed only foods at 5 weeks post surgery. I cant tolerate whole meats yet only blended in soups and I can eat very little solids like pasta or rice, only about 4 spoon fulls. From what I gather you just test yourself as the weeks go on as to what your body likes and can tolerate. I can't tolerate eggs at all and they really hurt when I try to eat them. You will learn what you can eat by what your body will tell you within the guidelines of each week. Some people tend to stay in one phase for longer than others because that is what is working for them By week 2 you should be adding protein powders to your drinks. I use the unflavoured protein which mixes into any liquids - your tea, drink, soup, etc. The protein makes you feel more satisfied and gives you more energy. I posted the link to the protein powder I use. It does not change the flavor of your food or drink https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation
