Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On

Hi there; I was banded by TLBC (now Slimband) allmost 3 yrs ago. Prices of $4200 and $5200 are the clinics in Mexico, that offer the surgerys. I personally know many ladies that have gone to Mexico for their surgery and all went well. Problem is AFTERCARE, who is going to do your Fills for you in Canada??? CIBO, SWLC, Slimband will NOT do fills for NON patients... so make sure you check out all options. With the SLEEVE, you'll need no fills after surgery, but you may want to stay in contact with your surgeon for questions and concerns.. Do you live in Toronto? or close by? There is now Lapband offered in Barrie, Ontario from Lakeview Surgery, I visited there and its nice, surgeon very approchable.. Liked them. you can pm me with questions too if they are of a more private nature. -

Doddie, I think that people need to get the anger out and vent... don't get me wrong about that... but what I don't get is the need to go on and on and on... let it go and get on with living life and doing it better stronger faster slimmer... when you spend your time focusing on the negative over the positives that you are doing to improve your life... you hold the negative and never get over it, so it tends to feed how you live your life. We have all met the people who on the surface have it all on the outside but on the inside they are bitter and angry... that is what reading posts from people who harp about the issues forever seems like to me. But I think people need to post the good bad and ugly... I think people need to know this is not always the easiest thing in the world to do, to change who you are... how you life and form better habits. I think a lot of people don't do the research and go into banding like it is a magic bullet and will do it all for you... it won't and it isn't... and people need to know that... they need to know this is real work for the rest of your life! People need to know about complications and how they are solved and the challenges. I really don't care though if people hate other people, or love other people.. hate the clinic staff or love the clinic staff... my experiences have been great with Slimband and that is what I judge them on my experiences not yours, not someone elses, just mine... and as long as they continue to be great they work for me. And I think people need to post that just not dwell on it... same with good experiences post but don't dwell... live your best life as Oprah would say. Heather -

I went to the slimband member's section the other day and after twenty minutes of looking at all the groups, I gave up because I couldn't find that post you had made Heather! And I don't get notifications about additions to that subject (if there are any). Next time you are there, if you could copy the address that may help. I find that site so annoying. It isn't at all like this forum or others I've been on. Oh well. Mary -

Hanabe ,this might make your life easier slimband set up a fills email where you can email your preference for a time for a fill. I know for a tech geek like me it makes it so much easier... i will always send an email over picking up the phone since I loath the phone. the email address was fills@slimband.com, and hopefully for those who mentioned they didn't want to suffer through phone tag this will help out. Has anyone tried the bootcamps (the new ones) I am it would be interesting if we could do an online style bootcamp and report in on the same regularity, weigh in, and do the lectures web style. But I am not sure if they would translate over for the distance for those of us not local. Anyone A) Interested  have any input on whether it would work or fail from a distance standpoint? Let me know and if there are some people interested I will post and ask if we can do an online version of the bootcamp on my slimband but it would be interesting to see who else would be willing to try it. Hi Thanks for responding. I've looked at the slimband site but can't seem to find the forum section. i can only see the blog sections. I thought i read last year that the band might soon be covered by our health card but can't find anymore info on it. so i'm guessing that it's still not covered - is that right? what about these ads at the side that say $4200 for the band $5200 for the sleeve. Is the clinic down town the only place who do it or is it just the best place? i'm wondering why the difference between the $4200 and $16000 how much could i expect to loose once I get the band in? -

hi: you have to join slimband's website just as you do most. They have a private members only as well. Go to their home page and follow from there. Dr. Yau works from the TLBC and Slimband is his support organization. He has only the one clinic but supports long distance patients like myself through webcam meetings with various specialists. He has fill nurses (doctors) throughout Canada but you must be a patient of his. Most clinics go that route. You can find fill doctors through the internet that will do fills for a fee but they are hard to find. The other very reputable clinic is SWLC. Dr. Colbourn (sp?) is very well respected. Many do go to Mexico which is cheaper, but as advised you should be prepared for hardship in getting fills. I understand the clinic gives good support so they may have started fills doctors in Canada. You shoud check with them. The sleeve is fairly new and I understand it must be removed after a certain period of time. I admit I am not knowledgable about it. Research is the only way. You will find gastric bands run around $16000 with the reputable well known clinics as they provide free aftercare for a period of time. For instance Slimband is my clinic and they offer 4 years with fills. However, I continue to receive moral support and am enjoying how the clinic has improved services of the years. If possible, go personally to the clinics. -

Heather thanks, I went there and posted on 3 different groups and I got a reply telling me the program was in the planning stages. I am satisfied. I have been on the twitter.com and I can't figure that one out either so I guess it is me that finds Slimband difficult. However, the more I use it the more I am getting to know how to find My Home Page. As Slimband is my clinic, I am hoping I will get more adept at using it. Thanks again. -

OK this is just my idea nothing to do with Slimband so do not hold them accountable... but I posted on the myslimband site and since it is locked down to slimband/TLBC patients it would be nice to host it on there because it will be our own small group that is manageable. Here were my thoughts so far... and I already posted this on myslimband.com I was thinking more along the lines of a thread that is ours, where we make our commitments for group and additional commitments as we go.. I was thinking something along the lines of choosing a theme for the month or a theme for the week. We could start with a focus on eating, working out anything we want as a group we would choose the theme of the week or month... So we would make the commitment to the group for the duration of the group, then another to the theme of the week or month. In addition there are dozens of free podcasts that we could suggest to each other a webcast or podcast or article to read that ties into our theme as an individual weigh in for the comments on the webcast, article or podcast. In addition we can add a weigh in for those who are in the weight loss phase and want that accountability added. We can also set up a chat room if that would help people there are several free rooms or if we are on msn or yahoo you can do a linked IM chat on there too. Thoughts comments etc? Heather  -
Ontario bandsters: Which clinic......?
MarieMarie replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Slimband in Toronto. I am 7 days post op and doing great -
Until the clinic (now slimband, I think) starts giving some explanations as to what is happening in that organization, I truly cannot give my reference to anyone thinking of banding. I gave a reference to a lady in Vancouver and she has had nothing but difficulty which put me in a pretty embarrasing position. Dr. Yau in my opinion is still the surgeon I would recommend, but it appears the supporting management are letting him down.

I just found out about this site yesterday and I did post something yesterday after reading all 14 pages prior to my blurb. I don't think this site is so that we can point fingers at each other and to think that every other person is conducting industrial espionage. The reality of the situation is that we are not all going to click to the same person - that's what makes the world go around!! I am the first one to admit that I was very upset when I found out that Jill left as she had steered me through my journey and was not there to know that I had reached my goal. I miss her. However, I realize that life goes on and I hope that after Slimband has completed their overhaul or whatever it is that they are doing, I will be able to find the same level of support, friendship and solace that I have found in the past. If in fact this site is being monitored by a staff from the clinic, I would love it if they could explain the changes - it might be helpful to a lot of people to know what changes are being made, why (there is a theory that if it ain't broke, don't fix it) and what we can expect in the future. I think that some of the problem might be that for those bandsters that have been around for awhile, the changes have not been explained in any way. On some levels we are not owed the explanation, however it would be nice.

Jorja, I just wanted to say that you and I have dealt with some of the same issues about Slimband. Don't let anyone discourage you on this site! You have my support! Doddie, I think that you are a great role model to all of us that are new to the banding experience, I'm glad that there is someone like you on this site to help us out. I know that you would be the first one that I would go to if I needed any advice! Thank-You. I always love to read your posts. Keep it up! -

Congrats on your surgery, I am happy that everything went great for you! However I wanted to remind you that this is a post regarding TLBC a.k.a. SLIMBAND, and it is nice to have a forum to see the positives well as the negatives. The problems that SOME of us have with TLBC does not mean that everybody goes thrught the same issues, but for me I have been talking to Jorja about going through some of the same issues ie: fill Dr.'s and appt. cancellations, and it is nice to know someone else is going through the same things. I have met Jorja in person ( I flew to TO. for my first fill...thats another story regarding TLBC), she is not a negative person she is just like ther rest of us trying to get some support and insight from eachother. That is what this forum is for...isn't it? Everyone is going to make their own decisions about their surgery. I am sure that for some of us, it has been smooth sailing with TLBC, but for others it hasn't. I loved Dr. Yau, he has a great reputation, my surgery went great and my aftercare nurses were awesome, Belina has been trying to make things better for me, but relying on Toronto promises, when I live in Alberta has been difficult. I have worked through some of my issues but I still think that TLBC isn't the greatest when you live long distance (that is my own experience). In my opinion, I have heard better things from SWLC regarding long distance care. Good luck on your journey! -
i wonder if others are as upset as i am about the post operative care at TLBC i know many people are from the conversations in the waiting room. I would like to get a letter signed by a number of us expressing how the changes they are making in the clinic since they became Slimband is not resulting in better care or results for us patients. Let me know if you feel the same

So I guess that answers the questions about TLBC monitoring this board. It sounds like Heather is also a TLBC/Slimband employee. I have been watching this place for a while and have found it very helpful in my lap band jurney. However if TLBC is watching and posting how do we know what is true and what is not. How does TLBC have the right to stop someone from setting up their own bootcamp if it would help us? Now I am really confusd. cindy

Different clinics use different bands, SWLC uses only the lapband system done by innamed last time I heard. Slimband uses all sorts of bands the realize, J&J/ swedish band, the Innamed system and so on. One of the nice things about Dr Yau is he looks at your body type and shape and then based on his experience choose the right type of band from his arsenal that he thinks will suit you. I had won a free Innamed band at the first bash and Dr Yau knew that and decided when my Innamed original band had slipped so many times it wasn't good with my body and he wanted to use a J&J Swedish band since based on how I had lost weight and where I had lost etc he felt it would be better with my body and knock on wood other than my port having to be moved I have not had a complication since.... That said almost all the bands work the same way with differences in how they are constructed being minimal some of the tubing and band portion around the stomach is more or less flexible. Heather -

Oh my lord.. I am so not employed by TLBC or slimband I was banded long before they existed... look at my profile and you will see how long I have been a member of this site... want to talk to other bandsters who have met me and who also don't work for a clinic and I can provide those references hell I can even provide a SWLC employee as a reference and she will tell you I am not employed by Slimband... I am a software consultant... right now I work with a fortune 50 company in Colorado Springs... call Slimband and ask... people have met me... lots of them I hosted the Yahoo dinner I have been on here as a member since the site started there are times I have less time to post and more time to post... right now I am trying to refocus so I am making the time to post... people needs support at different times and I can tell that support is working so well on this page! I don't get why the accusations.... if you want a copy of my resume I will send it to you and you will see there is not one once of medical stuff on it.. and I don't plan on changing that. This is insane... people are people people get banded all the time, new people join, old people drop off, just because you don't like what I have to say doesn't make me a plant... Read and you might learn from me and as I read I might learn from you. Just as I might learn from others... and so can you As for why when people leave the clinics they can't set up their own businesses competing with the clinics I work contracts and standard in most of the contracts I sign as non compete clauses which means I can't take all the knowledge and contacts I made for a client and use that for my own gain... or that client can sue me for violating the non compete. The clinic may have similar things set up for employees I know when I was employer all the people who worked for me had long non competes which were very specific.. and almost every contract I sign has similar clauses. -
OK Heather. It is almost like "Thou protest too much". You and only you know whether Slimband has offered you something to be their eyes and voice on here. Your resume will not prove anything. Your conscience will be the final judge. Nonethess "Slimband" has posted on here so we know they are watching, and maybe postin through someone else as well. The point is that I can no longer trust that anything we read on here is truly unbiased. I will call Slimband myself and see if they have the integrity to admit to what they are doing. I have watched this board since I was banded by Dr. Yau last year and have never felt the nned to post before. I am disappointed that TLBC has violated my trust and aired their dirty landry here. I am doing fine with my band and love it. I am determined that nothing will change that. Cindy

My surgery is Dec 1, 2011 through Slimband. I'm trying to not get too caught up on the negative things I read on the web because honestly they freak me out. I'm trying to concentrate on remembering what it felt like not to wear this fat suit everyday. Can't wait to feel alive and confident again.
