Update on Husband Drama and lots more!!!

hey we are in the same boat exactly. My husband was a real ass also. Reminding me that I was fat, counting the food in the cupboards. I finally got fed up. I decided to leave the Middle East where we were living. We agreed that we would try to work things out but have some space. He just stopped talking to me altogether then after a MONTH on thursday he told me he doesn't love me and will file for divorce. Well that a*****e can eat his heart out because i'm now a sexy hot lady and he's just a small troll. 50 pounds lost has done wonders for my self esteem. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!

    New here and so anxious

Welcome to our normal. Here is a link that might encourage you. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/219831-what-was-your-final-straw-that-broke-the-camels-back/page-129?hl=%2Bfinal+%2Bstraw#entry4094671 You have so much to look forward to when your health and quality of life improve. Are all changes bad? I remember when Dad bought our first microwave in the 1970's. Mom thought it would make her brain explode until she realized how much easier it made her life. Yes, I have personally changed since my surgery. I have more confidence and don't take anyone's BS anymore. I realize my value and am more sympathetic towards people who have to rise above overwhelming circumstances. Plus, I know a whole lot more about nutrition.

I'll be sending my best vibes your way! It seems a little unfair that they would deny you NOW just bc SHE is new... But then again, after my recent go-round with my PCP, nothing surprises me. Best wishes!!! Keep us posted. 347*294/285/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com
  6. with proper diet AND EXERCISE i believe you can lose as much as you want no matter what route you take or even if you take weightloss surgery or not. my problem was i never could STICK with anything long enough and even when i did, the weight ALWAYS came back plus some! i'm only 4 days post op and i eat when i'm hungry and stop when i'm full...granted i'm on the "mushies" diet right now...but i was surprised today to learn that i've already lost 6.9 lbs!!! in only 4days!!! the lapband ROCKS! my dr. tried to convince me for the gastric bypass but i simply told him, i'm not looking to get skinny, i'm comfortable being fat bc fat is all i know. i just want to know how much do i need to lose to lose the co-morbidities that i have (sleep apnea, diabetes, hypothyroid) and he said then go for the lapband. now that being said, i have full intention of losing more then just the co-morbidities....for $13,500 plus interest its only worth it to me to get my monies worth and that means doing everything the right way and working hard at it. i haven't been able to do much of the exercise part yet bc i'm still healing, but i've already begun to walk daily. i just walk as much as i can down the street and back and then i drive it in my car to see how far i walked. i also log EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth and ALL the walking i do. buy yourself a journal and keep track of it. mine looks something like this: @ 8am 6oz carnation instant bkfst @ 11am 1.5oz banana @ 2:45pm 1/2 SugarFree Popsicle @ 6pm 2oz green Beans 3.5oz scalloped potatoes @ 9:30pm 2oz SugarFree Jello
  7. Did your doctor tell you that you had to loose a certain amount of weight before surgery? I am having surgery tommorow too and my doctor told me I didn't need to do the pre-op diet... I have been kind of panicing these past few days, but I guess I just figure my Dr knows best... I haven't gone crazy with my eatting but I am afraid to weigh myself bc I don't want to have gained weight!

    Jets Coach Get Lap Band

Good for Rex! I applaud him for taking the step. As for those commenters...WOW! I don't understand how people can judge others without ever walking in their shoes. What kills me is that automatically obese people are labeled as lazy and "eating 10 tacos". I mean, come ON. It amazes me how society still accepts the commentary regarding obese people but it's forbidden to comment on any other characteristic. Why is that? It should be that way for EVERYTHING - not just age, race, gender, socio-economic status, etc. I'm so fed up with society right now. Ugh.

    Frustrated!

@Janet thanks for the advice. everyone is telling me the same thing the slower the better. i joined this group bc i really need to stay focused and motivated. its frustrating because i did go through the surgery and really dont feel different. i know i have to be patient it also doesnt help me at all that i am obsessed with the scale. i know i should stay away from it but can't. i even told my hubby to hide from me lol. really obsessed im on it about 6 times a day. @ymjackson i think i eat enough just really staying away from all the junk and rice. rice is my downfall i used to eat it everyday, now I'm down to once a week. that's a challenge! i don't track my calorie in take i know i should. I just really don't want to feel like having surgery was just a waste of time. hopefully next week when i go in for my second fill i will feel a lot better. thanks for listening girls!
  11. Honestly? You need to forget almost "all" you "think" you know about medicine. Which will be a tall order. You need to not rationalize "the kind" of surgery you think you need and really lean on your doc to give you the most effective surgery that will help prevent regain given you steroid use and probably your ass-load (non-medical jargon) of insulin resistance, and go with that. Cuz I do not believe as a lay person hearing your story, that a VSG will be sufficient to put your metabolic issues into remission. If it were me, and it is...cuz I have degenerative disc disease, bilateral SI joint erosion and bilateral hip bursitis requiring cortisone injections + pre-diabetic Syndrome X + BC (remission) + Asthma with steroid inhalers + HBP + pericardial effusion + a couple of other dandies like GERD, etc, and the very least I would settle for was an RNY and I was tempted to go for DS. I'm not tearin' up the boards with post-surgery weight loss, but it is slow and steady so far and I keep chipping away at the weight very slowly, pound by pound, inch by inch. And that's with eating a very low carb (about 20g net carbs) diet daily. I wish you the best and welcome to the boards.

    I feel stuck

From what I can tell, it happens to everyone. Just remember you are probably losing inches, don't be concerned about the number. It will go down. I weigh daily during the week, but I don't let the number on the scale upset me bc I know it can fluctuate. :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Weigh In 6-11-13

Welp, the scale said 248 this morning .... SIGHHHHHHHHH. Ive posted the lap band rules in my cube in TWO places so I can see them all the time. I need to get them burned into my eyeballs thru repetition until I start making them a daily habit and lifestyle. I feel like I'm in bandster hell right now ... and I say that bc I have a time period between when I get my fill, and when I actually FEEL my fill (2-3 weeks) so right now even though I know I have a fill I still haven't started to feel that increase in restriction. It's been 11 days since my fill so maybe at the end of this week I start to feel some marked difference. In the meantime .. I'm hoping that this fill is what gets me back into the green zone (I was there once several months ago for a VERY short period of time - but I had to get an unfill due to acid reflux issues) ... and now Im trying to get back there. I'll keep posting my weight and comments as a hope to keep me accountable for what I'm doing and eating. I worked out this weekend, and I did P90x Plyometrics yesterday ... "maybe" the scale isnt moving but Im losing inches since Im working out <fingers crossed> Maybe I'll post some pics along this journey until my wedding for you guys.
  14. AniO- I had a pain in 2 teeth actually and the worst one needed a root canal, which has been done..and today I start the process of getting a post and crown put in. The other tooth still bothers but only when I drink anything cold. I will tell you that from this whole experience, I did learn that you need to tell ur doctor bc I almost didn't and it's not worth taking the risk if you have an infection...have your dentist tell u if it's an infection, it could be an infection especially if it's a crown you already have in place... the problem is when u have infection. I'm hoping I'll get good news today from the dentist so I can finally schedule my surgery. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these second thoughts...but I know that I spent almost a year doing the research and the steps to get to surgery and it's the best thing for me. I think it's the actual fact that my body, the stomach I was born with is being changed...and that kind of change it forever...so it's scary, but the alternative which could be DEATH if I don't get rid of the weight is just not an option. Thank you all !! I hope it's good news this afternoon for me
  15. Impressive!! But can I urge caution without being a wet blanket? I did the same thing pre op...but I froze them in ice cube trays in One ounce portions and then moved to ziplock bags. Now almost 8 months later I still have most of those cubes in my freezer bc my tastes changes so much. Plus I froze WAY more than I could eat during my purée phase even if my tastes didn't change. So just don't get too far ahead of yourself! And don't spend too much $$ stockpiling. A little bit is plenty, you won't be feeling too bad for too long, especially by the time you are at purées!
  16. I went to my Wellness and NUT class yesterday and I have to say that I was shocked. Once again I go to these mandatory classes and I sit there and think, "Does anybody actually know how to google?" Hell, the moment that the idea of VSG tickled my brain I immediately powered up my trusty laptop for some quality web time. Thats how I found all you lovely men and women on this site! Yet here I was, months later sitting in my W&NUT class and listening to this one gentleman say, "You mean I have to give up my McDonald's Deluxe Breakfasts?". And he wasn't being sarcastic, he was actually dismayed. *sigh* On another note, I also passed my Psych(o) exam yesterday! $345 for 50 minutes that involved a conversation and a test to determine my mental wellbeing. Obviously I went into the wrong line of business as this sure beats my hourly wage! I'm having friends over for dinner on Saturday and my bff told me that her husband isn't really getting why I'm having this surgery. Basically he's worried about me having surgery, as all surgery is dangerous. Also, he thinks that you can lose weight just by trying harder and using will power. Luckily my bff said that she thinks thats bs. I dont think that if you've been thin your entire life that you can understand how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off. So dinner should be interesting. Basically my mantra is, "You can be supportive without actually agreeing" and "Bring on the questions as long as the conversations are respectful". I'm not worried about it as its my choice, my family is behind me, and the effects speak for themselves. Also I know his questions come out of concern for me, and that it's not coming from a mean or judgemental place. Sometimes I forget that those who have never had surgery or health problems view surgery so suspiciously. I'm only 29 but I've had my appendix and tonsils removed, pins put into my foot, two surgeries on my legs to fix a brown recluse bite gone bad, wisdom teeth removed, and breast reduction surgery. Surgery itself does not scare me...and I think you get to a point in your life that you are willing to risk everything in order to gain a healthier and better life. One more class to go on March 7 and then everything can be submitted to the insurance. Woohoo! "If you are going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance." ~ Unknown

    What preops diet taught me

To me, I found that hunger is just a sensation. Like when your neck hurts because you slept wrong. Hunger is not am emergency that needs to be immediately fed. I found that once I was able to control my response to hunger out became much easier to manage.
  18. So I live in a remote community in the Yukon Territory and I am one week away from starting my travel down south to get my surgery! Next Saturday we will drive 400km to Whitehorse to hop on the plane and head to Edmonton. Thankfully my wonderful parents have offered to take our young boys (aged 2 and 4) for a couple of weeks and will drive from Northern BC to Edmonton to pick them up. Then my husband and I hop back on the plane to head down to Seattle for my surgery. I am a bundle of nerves!! Surgery on the 19th of this month.... the time seems to have gone by so quickly since I started the process this summer. No second thoughts, but a lot of curiosity about my life after the sleeve. I am also looking forward to nearly two weeks in a hotel without my boys! This mama needs a break. Nothing to do but watch movies and read books... ahhhh sounds good to me! Does anyone out there have a goal weight? I was 319 when I started my presurgery diet and am now at 311. In my head I am thinking that 170 would be so lovely! The last time I was 170lbs I was around 14. I cannot even imagine what I will look like! Kara

    Getting On The Train...

I went with Dr. A and couldn't be happier! You have made the best choice in my biased opinion! I am so excited for you! Unfortunately I had two previous abdominal surgeries so I knew what to expect. Being that it is your first make sure you stay in touch with any questions you might have on this site. It is a life saver! I am almost 40 myself and was fed up with the yo yo. I think you have made a great decision to get this done and if there is anything I can help you with let me know!!!

    May 17th

I was sleeved may 16th and also got stalled at 265. My starting weight was 289. I have found that if you let go a bit and increase your calories by indulging in something like a cookie or a piece or your favorite dessert it will restart your metabolism because it feels like its being fed again. Don't go crazy and pig out lol. Just indulge for a day. I stalled at 265 for almost three weeks before I took a day off from clean eating. I ate cheese puffs and enjoyed a slice of watermelon (a big no no) and last but not least I had a vanilla latte. That weekend I dropped 4 lbs.

    I went for 'THE CONSULT'

Hi Gayle, Believe me…I'm ready to face the whole list of challenges to get approved. From what this team tells me, they are the ones who will jump through the hoops to help, and that was reassuring. I did call and find out it is an approved surgery - WITH 6 months of evaluation ahead of time. And I'm fine with that as well. That is with my current surgery. Being that I work for a major Pharma Company, we have GREAT insurance coverage choices. Next month I will choose to go to BC/BS or United Healthcare; both of which approve the surgery for my company WITHOUT 6 months requirements. We'll see…this is all just in the 'planning' stage. I need to read here some more, find out how folks are dealing after - and so forth.
  22. I am a type II diabetic and 12 days post op gastric sleeve. For the last 7 days I was able to take just a few units (10 to 15 units) of rapid acting insulin to bring my sugar levels to acceptable (9-13). But now that I am able to eat more substantive foods my sugar levels are of course going up but I feel very scared to take the long acting insulin. Are there any other diabetic sleevers who can share some of your experience on controlling blood sugar after surgery and did you use long acting insulin or only short acting? I am scared of long acting and going to sleep...…...I live alone so there is no one to check on me. Of course I need to keep BS down to help my incisions heal as well as the internal staples. Incisions are healing very well, Thank God! How long did it take before you stopped needing to use insulin?

Out of sight out of mind...

So I got banded on monday. Today is Friday. I was discharged Tuesday from the hospital in TJ. I had a feeling that what I am about to write would happen. Since Tuesday, right after I left the hospital I had one more question about the cream they prescribed for me and when I can take the bandages off...The hospital (though I have emailed 3 times and called) have yet to get back to me and answer. Instead, the MedToGo coordinator called some other doctor in the business and got the questions answered. Here is my point for those thinking about Mexico...what you get is what you pay for. They told me up and down at the hospital, "just call" "just email" if you have anything...what a crock of BS. I understand these doctors are busy and have busy days, however, responding to an email like that takes 3 minuts tops. It is a clear case of I paid them to do a service and they did...well and the business transaction is over. If any of this is something you don't want to be involved with rethink going to Mexico. In other news all is well (regardless) and I am under 200#s YAY!

    How long?

My Nut finalized her part and forwarded it to insurance company. I received an approval letter within 10 calendar days from BCBS Fed employees. The surgeons office called and scheduled a pre-surgery appointment (for a surgery date & pre-op check-up) that was about 2 weeks later, earliest they had open. I had basically began my somewhat modified (about 90%) pre-op diet at that point. When I had pre-surgery appointment I found out that I could have surgery within about 9 days (normally a 2 week pre-op diet). Because I had started, somewhat, earlier that was an option. I didn't take it because it was not a first-in the OR timeframe. I ended up waiting about another week for a 'first-in' apt for the OR.
